At 89, he is actively engaging teenagers and college students—not lecturing, but offering guidance from a lived roadmap for life. A bit about Ed: his first book, an engaging memoir - The Road Less Traveled: An Unlikely Journey From The Orphanage To The Boardroom - shares at the age of 3, Ed Hajim was kidnapped by his father, driven cross-country, and told his mother is dead. Then he was abandoned, raised in orphanages and foster homes. Ed overcame extraordinary adversity to build a life that embodies the American Dream: University of Rochester, Navy service, Harvard Business School, leadership at the highest levels of Wall Street, Horatio Alger Award recipient, founder of the Nantucket Golf Club, married to his wife Barbara for 60 years and has three grown children and is a proud grandfather. His next book focuses on The Ed Hajim Four Ps: Passions, Principles, Partners and Plans. As Ed explains, these have been the constants in his life, his inner voice to make decisions that match his hopes and execute ideas to get to his goals – and he shares them in his follow-up book THE ISLAND OF THE FOUR Ps: A Modern Fable about Preparing for Your Future - Plus, the Ed Hajim Life Design Course now beginning to be used on campuses across the country, Ed helps young people identify their passions, principles, partners and plans —and shows them how to design a life with intention using a roadmap for life. Here's a video to enjoy and hear from Ed directly! In an era defined by uncertainty and anxiety about the future, Ed Hajim offers clarity, perspective and proof that where you start does not determine where you finish.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.
Doug Weyand has found himself nearly indispensable to many local theaters! Whether it be as an actor, a director, a choreographer, or a marketing director, his presence all but guarantees quality productions at any venue. As an ensemble member of Road Less Traveled, most of his “performances" have been behind the scenes, and that is brilliantly represented by his work as the director of RLTP's current production of Ghost Brothers of Darkland County. Still, he took time out from a grueling rehearsal schedule to talk to Peter about this show, his life, and his many other projects.

If you think it feels like things are speeding up and change is coming faster than ever, well, you’re right. It took us hundreds of thousands of years to get to a worldwide population of 3 billion. We got there in 1927. From there, it only took about 70 more years – one lifetime – to get to a population of 6 billion. Back at the 3 billion mark, fewer Americans lived in urban areas. When they needed to shop for necessary supplies they’d talk about “going to town.” “Town” was often a single street. A commercial corridor. A “Main Street.” Here in New Orleans, over the 300 years of our existence we’ve had a number of main streets. Canal Street. Dryades Street. Magazine Street. Recently we’ve added Freret Street. The current incarnation of Freret street as a commercial district began with the re-birth of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. One of the first outposts of resurrection was a then audaciously high-end, hip, cocktail bar and restaurant, called Cure. Cure would go on to win all kinds of awards, including the Oscar of hospitality - a James Beard Award for “Outstanding Bar Program” - and the company behind it, CureCo Bar & Restaurant Group would go on to open Val’s, also on Freret Street, and other establishments, including Cane & Table on Decatur Street. Neal Bodenheimer is a Co-Founder and the Managing Partner of these ventures, as well as a partner in Dauphine’s in Washington DC, Co-Chair of the Board of Directors of Tales of the Cocktail Foundation, and author of the book, Cure, New Orleans Drinks and How to Mix ‘em. Tourists who visit New Orleans will often check out Freret Street and Magazine Street, but mostly they want to see The French Quarter. Typically, they’ll stay in a hotel in the Quarter, or at an Air B’nB in a neighborhood. There’s another local accommodation option too. It’s just west of the city. It sits on 7 and a half acres. It’s staffed by 12 employees, 24 hours a day 7 days a week, and has a full concierge desk. There’s a shuttle service to the French Quarter, and to special events like Saints games and Jazz Fest. The concierge will arrange any tour you want to go on. And they have a souvenir shop where everything is intentionally priced lower than downtown. So, what is this place? It’s the KOA campground in River Ridge. There are 100 RV sites, 4 tent sites, and 3 deluxe lodges. The owners of KOA Campgrounds New Orleans are husband and wife team, Mike and Deborah Dunn. Yes, we have Big Ass Beers and Pat O’Briens, but we also have craft cocktails and Cure. And, yes, we have hotels on Bourbon Street and Air BnB’s Uptown, but we also have KOA Campgrounds in River Ridge. There is, as they say, more than one way to skin a cat. According to AI, the origin of that saying is unknown, but it’s thought to refer to the various solutions to the tricky business of cleaning and preparing catfish. Which is entirely appropriate for this part of the world, and for today’s conversation, referring, as it does, to various ways of achieving the desired result of enjoying a long life or a short stay in New Orleans by taking the road less traveled. Whether its locals who have turned Cure into an institution or visitors who have discovered the benefits of urban camping, all of us appreciate the unique ways both Deborah Sunn and Neal Bodenheimer are helping retain New Orleans’ reputation as a city that defies easy definition. Out to Lunch was recorded live over lunch at Columns in Uptown New Orleans. But first: an examination of oil prices and potential tariffs on countries sending weapons to Iran.

But he started with $30K, student loans, and an apartment in New York where one paycheck covered rent and the other covered everything else.In this episode, Joe gets candid about the deals that didn't work, the market conditions that are keeping multifamily investors in a holding pattern, and the one acquisition strategy most operators are completely ignoring right now: going direct to the lender. Here's what we cover:Why Fort Worth and Orlando are Ashcroft's two highest-conviction markets heading into late 2026How Joe acquired a property for less than the outstanding debt — and what it took to get thereThe lender relationship play that gives you first look at off-market distressed deals (even if you don't have your own management company)Where the supply/demand shift is — and why Q3 2026 is the number operators keep landing onJoe's personal 3.5% math: out of 140 LP deals across 50+ operators, what's actually gone to zeroThe fixed vs. floating rate lesson that still stingsHow Joe defines success — and it has nothing to do with deal countJoe also shares his three bucket list goals for the year. Road grit meets breast cancer courage in this wild ride from Daytona to Homer that turns one biker into a full‑on breast health champion for his fiance Kathy and uninsured women at The Rose. - Why one long‑distance biker took on the Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge to honor his fiancée Kathy and support uninsured women with breast cancer at The Rose. - The brutal, beautiful 11,000‑mile route from Florida through Hurricane Debby, the Keys, the red rocks, Canada, and into Homer, Alaska—and what those miles revealed about people’s kindness. - How a “subset of the biker community nobody hears about” quietly raises over a quarter‑million dollars for charity and reminds us that health, dignity, and access to breast cancer care matter more than anything we own. Please consider sharing this episode, or making a donation at therose.org so more women receive breast cancer screening and care. Subscribe to Let’s Talk About Your Breasts on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeart, and wherever you get your podcasts. Key Questions Answered What is the Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge, and why do riders call it a spiritual challenge instead of just an endurance ride? How did Mike’s 11,000‑mile ride from Daytona to Homer work, and what did it take to earn “elite rider” status in 14 days? What was it like to ride the Florida Keys in the middle of Hurricane Debby on a loaded bike? How did small‑town strangers—like “Swamp Rat” in Georgia and Gayleen in Taos—step in to help exhausted riders and restore Mike’s faith in people? How did turn‑by‑turn paper directions, back roads, bad signage, and constant detours change the way Mike experienced the country and its communities? What kind of preparation, bike choice, and vetting does it take to even get a spot in Hoka Hey, and why is the field limited to about 100 new riders? How did Kathy’s metastatic breast cancer diagnosis push Mike to turn his love of riding into fundraising for The Rose? In what ways did this ride shift Mike’s beliefs about what matters more: money and stuff, or people, health, and community? How did the ride help Mike process anger about healthcare priorities and inspire him to speak out for women facing breast cancer? Why does Mike say it’s “not about the miles, it’s about what’s in those miles,” and how does that connect to living with and caring through breast cancer? Timestamped Overview 00:00 Dorothy introduces Mike and the Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge; Mike explains the event’s purpose, its origin with Jim Red Cloud, and the charity focus for indigenous communities and riders’ chosen causes. 04:45 Earning “elite rider” status, riding 11,017 miles in 14 days, and what it felt like to hit the Homer finish at midnight with his best friend. 07:40 Florida and the Keys in Hurricane Debby: sideways rain, flooded roads, soaked gear, and pushing through when you can’t even use a kickstand. 09:48 Sleeping by the bike, “Swamp Rat” opening the fire station, a Jamaican officer letting him ride on after a red light, and Gayleen in Taos handing out treats and directions. 13:30 Logistics, road confusion, unlabeled highways, extra detours, and the constant puzzle of staying on route while exhausted and chasing time. 17:32 Why Mike rode for Kathy and The Rose: their breast cancer story, her metastatic diagnosis, and turning frustration and helplessness into a fundraiser that reached 27,000 dollars. 21:43 What the journey taught him about people, poverty, food insecurity, generosity, and how stepping away from news and politics reframed what really matters. 23:05 The rules of the ride: American‑made bikes only, relentless back roads, long days in the saddle, sleeping in wet clothes, and learning to read paper directions while riding. 28:30 Dorothy frames Mike’s story as a story of America and of charity: the goodness of strangers, the power of bikers riding for breast cancer care, and why these miles matter for women they’ll never meet.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
