Limited Cel - A Generational Hanna-Barbera Cartoon Review Show
Take ‘Welcome Back, Kotter’ and replace the Kotter with cauterized blood. I don’t know, it’s the best I got this late at night. It’s a high school for monsters and Rick Moranis. What could go wrong? Limited Cel is a podcast where two generations of cartoon watchers sit down and watch ever series their favorite cartoon producers ever made. Join Nick (the son) and Mike (the dad) Wood as they watch, catalog, and review some of the best and the... Read More Read More
Let's wrap up our review of 1990 Saturday morning TV with a look at the bizarre lineup on NBC. We had a couple of cartoonified SCTV stars taking care of weird kids (John Candy in Camp Candy and Rick Moranis in Gravedale High), Captain N: The Game Master (with a shameless parade of Nintendo characters), movie parodies from the Chipmunks, awkward cartoon dancing from Kid 'n Play... and the beginning of the end for Saturday morning cartoons with Saved By the Bell and The Guys Next Door. (Don't remember The Guys Next Door? It was a Monkees-style sitcom about a New Kids-style boy band. And as a civilization, we have collectively decided to pretend it never happened.) It's time to get spoooooky!!! With Halloween right around the corner, the SuperCast crew decided it was time to go down in the cellar and poke around to see what sorts of frightful fun they could dig up. They found a charmingly goofy cartoon featuring Rick Moranis! Rick Moranis In Gravedale High is a little-known show that should be better-known. But before they school you, the SuperCasters discuss everyone's favorite once-a-year breakfast, the Monster Cereals!!! Which was your favorite??
Part two of our High-ology takes us to a world of vampire fonzies, werewolf nerds and undead cheerleaders, being taught by a remarkably unfazed Rick Moranis. Why would you go to school if you were undead? At this time of spooks and spectres, how does the other side deal with education? Today we talk a tongue in cheek look at how the traditional Hogwarts school, the mainstream Gravedale High and the incredibly progressive Monster Academy educate their cohort of vampires, werewolves and mummies! Its just for fun, but you never know, we might learn something as we drop our serious schtick for once and over analyze All Ghoul Schools!
The stupid snow is melting, and we're starting to leave the house again, so we have a trio of concert reports for you this week. First, just ahead of their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, Bon Jovi came to Boston to see and/or rock a million faces, including ours. (But we're even bigger fans of the opening band: our local power pop heroes, Sidewalk Driver.) Next was Juliana Hatfield, celebrating the release of her remarkable new album of Olivia Newton-John covers. (Just imagine... "Physical" and "Xanadu" performed live by a Boston alt-rock legend... it was magic. And yes, she also played "Magic.") And finally, we witnessed a surprisingly awesome show from perhaps the soft-rockiest dude in the history of soft rock... Christopher Cross. (We found him at a frighteningly smoke-filled casino in Connecticut, which is indeed located about halfway between the moon and New York City.) Also: Happy Birthday to Rick Moranis. From the Great White North to Gravedale High to Bedrock, he is our Keymaster.

From the post-Halloween bargain bin, it's all the leftover Halloween thoughts fit to print! We watched the so-bad-it's-spooky Gravedale High, and finally got our hands on some Boo Berry. Plus, other funny shenanigans!
I think that we all remember when Rick Moranis was acting. Moranis was extremely notable in Ghostbusters, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, and of course the cartoon Gravedale High. Wait..what? You didn't know that Moranis was in a short lived cartoon that that asks the question, "what would happen if the undead/creepy children of the Universal Monsters went to high school?" In order to answer this question, we get into Rick Moranis in Gravedale High on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast. Will Dave every stop saying his new catchphrase, "man?" Will Sean be able to understand the complex process of stitching together a small child to make Frankenstein Jr? All of this and more on this week's episode. This week is brought to you by "ghosts in your attic." Who does't love to seal off that room and pretend like they don't exist? Ghosts in your attic - "they watch you while you sleep!" We're kicking off our Monster Madness Month for Halloween. Join us as we haunt more of your nostalgic past with cartoons from your youth. If you're digging the show, then please rate us on iTunes and Stitcher. And also Like us on Facebook!
Artist & author Dan Hogan returns to chat Redshirts, webcomics, cartoons, and Tim Hortons. Also joining the conversation is the always hilarious Tina who shares podcast recommendations and laughter with us. Allergies, yo! New Equipment is rad. This is Dan’s second visit to the show. Last season he was on the show and he was a recent guest on Film Frown. Don’t click this, Thicke of the Night. Chris giggles like a teen girl about South Park’s Go Fund Yourself and Freemium Isn’t Free. We talk Kickstarter, pluses/minuses. Dan reminds us of Dinosaur Comics, talks Ryan North’s book, To Be or Not To Be and the podcast he heard the story on, MakeItThenTellEverybody. The happy podcasters review John Scalzi’s Redshirts, a parody of Star Trek. Honestly, you can enjoy the book without any prior Star Trek knowledge. In fact, you can read the first few chapters here. Secret of the Lizard People (Star Trek: The Next Generation - Starfleet Academy #7) & Full House: That’s the Way It Crumbles, Cookie are recent book finds by Dan. Tina is reading the The Daily Mail because she’s heard enough about Star Trek. Burger King wants to buy Tim Hortons to be closer to Chris. Well, that and to move their HQ to Canada and pay less in taxes. Dan found Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom very interesting and from there Chris & Dan whirl down the Cory Doctorow rabbit hole, talking Little Brother and Rapture of the Nerds. While Dan & Tina lament the size of the GVSU campus, Chris shares important advice about avalanches. Dan suggests that you participate in NANOWRIMO and check out his new shirt design. The Saturday Morning preview with Scott Baio? Benji, Zax & the Alien Prince, Hammer Man, Little Rosey and Gravedale High. We discuss the first episode of Film Frown.
