Show Notes On this week's podcast, Dan, Kris, and Dean climb aboard the SAG Cartoon Express to discuss the Captain N: The Game Master episode “In Search of the King.” Why is the King SO MUCH older than his daughter? How the heck did he get stuck in the Mirror Dimension in the first place? Why is everything in this show credited to Nintendo? So many questions, and so few answers. At the top of the show, Dan finally gets his diagnosis, and has a plan of attack. Dean gets kicked out of his apartment, but gets a new house in the process, or at least the promise of a new house, and Kris gets a new TV, and can't figure out how to make it not look like garbage. Meanwhile, Dan starts working through the Castlevania series in chronological order, and Dean and Kris played some games too, but none as interesting as Castlevania. Finally, in Week Old News, more layoffs hit Bungie, GameStop tries to drive home the importance of physical media while unceremoniously canceling their physical magazine, Minecraft meets Tetris, an unreleased Lemmings arcade port gets a cabinet, and more. DIC return to the podcast this week with another of their Saturday morning cartoons based on a videogame. This time around it's Captain N: The Game Master, a giant Nintendo commercial featuring appearances from all of the iconic Nintendo characters such as Mega Man, Kid Icarus, Simon Belmont and Super Ma-...oh, wait, what's that? Mario isn't in this? They didn't even get Luigi? Oh. What are we doing here then? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
You don't turn to us for advice on a balanced breakfast, but we're happy to spoon up five cereal-inspired beers so good that even Mikey likes it. Through clever use of ingredients (or just throwing the cereal right in the beer), these beers really test the nostalgia influence of sitting a foot from the TV in our PJs while watching Captain N: The Game Master. Also, we consider all the different ways to attack the mat, share our own cereal biases, establish our independence through Cocoa Puffs, and endorse Malt-O-Meal above all. I'd say this episode is pretty gr-r-r-eat!!! It is here. After 2.5 years, Dexter Morrill and I have finally watched and discussed EVERY episode of Captain N The Game Master (minus the clip show episode at the end of season 2...) This has been a long time coming. Dexter and I started this series as a way to help me keep the podcast weekly after my kid was born and it grew into something we could not have expected. This series was an absolute joy. So much so that recording week became known as Captain N week. This would entail watching the same episode multiple times, a few of which were with my daughter and then laughing about it for over an hour with my friend, the co-host with the mo-host, Dexter. And of course with all this Captain N being watched, my kid loves the show now. Go figure. I of course need to send a sincere thank you to all of you for listening and following along with this series. It has meant the world to Dex and I and we could not be happier with how it turned out. Be on the look out for the next cartoon series.... It's hard to believe but we have reached the finale of season 2 of the Captain N series. There is only one season (more like half a season) left of the show. Dexter Morrill and I break down episode 13 of season 2, Germ Wars. What is a video virus? Why does Kid Icarus have an arrow for everything and yet nothing? And apparently Kevin is actually the only human on the N team? Even though season 1's finale involved Mega Man becoming a real boy? To tie into the recent Super Mario movie release, we decided to cover the early 90s Super Mario World cartoon. The Mario segment is a little boring, even though we have some fun discussing the the weird diversions the creators decided to take from the standard games. The real gem here, though, is the Captain N: The Game Master segment that comes in the second half of the episode. It's a wild 11 minutes, with a surprising guest star, an evil robot AND an evil clock, an Urkel ripoff, and a princess who just wants her dad to come back. It's something. I'm not gonna beat around the bush. The episode that is covered for this month's Captain N episode is by far our favorite of season 2. Dexter Morrill is back and we have a ton of fun breaking down Captain N season 2 episode 9, Having a Ball. This episode is one of the most wild episode's we've ever seen on the show. We pick a story from fanfiction epic Mega Man: the Series, but rather than the eponymous Blue Bomber, this story focuses on his brother/housecat Break "Proto" Man. The author's commitment to their corpus is very impressive - almost as impressive as their ability to feel affection for Captain N: The Game Master, which Amado and Tory find mega-difficult. Another month another Captain N episode. Dexter and I break down season 2 episode 8, The Feud of Faxanadu. In this month's episode we find the N Team at odds with each other for.... reasons? They end up assisting a nation of dwarves and elves who are at war with each other but are secretely being manipulated by the evil one. In the long-awaited sequel to our episode about our favorite episodes, here's our episode about our least favorite episodes! First, Micah watches the episode of Captain N: The Game Master that focuses on Mega Man, and has to endure Mega Man mega fan Matsy explaining everything that's wrong with it. Then, Matsy watches an episode of Tiny Toon Adventures that lies to the children of 1990 about how much the cosmetics industry relies on whales, in addition to being incompetently made. Plus, Micah learns his lesson from White Snake and Green Snake by trying to figure out if Nezha Reborn is a sequel to Nezha or not, while the end of Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles prompts Matsy to muse on disappointing actual villain reveals. Join me as we take a journey back to the time of King Arthur and his Knights of Justice. On this exciting interview I am talking with actor Andrew Kavadas the man behind the voice of Arthur King from King Arthur and the Knights of Justice. This was by far one of my absolute favorite animated shows growing up as it dealt with Arthurian Legend, King Arthur. History has always been one of my favorite subjects and that combined with an amazing voice cast, dealing with King Arthur and his Knights in a unique and mythical way was mind blowing as a kid. If you haven't seen this series I highly recommend King Arthur and the Knights of Justice to anyone and everyone. I have always thought the concept of this show would make an excellent live action movie. Anyway, not only did Andrew voice King Arthur aka Arthur King. He also voiced Simon Belmont on Captain N: The Game Master. I hope you enjoy todays episode. The 80’s, (or as we call it: the greaties), was a fantastic time to be a kid. Not only did we have a killer line-up of games to play on the Nintendo Entertainment System – but we also had a killer line-up of animated shows to watch on our glorious CRT TVs. One of those amazing shows we thrived on in our youth was Captain N: The Game Master – a hot show from 1989 that describes itself as: “Considered the quintessential animated series for gamers, Captain N: The Game Master used its flare for exciting storytelling and its overwhelming[...]

Hold on a secondicus, you mean there was ANOTHER video game cartoon AND cereal for us to cover? You mega-beticus! Was the show annoying? Oh yeah. Was the cereal delicious? Kinda! The gang goes back to the video game well to discuss the longest Nintendo commercial ever, Captain N: The Game Master! But first, they discuss perhaps the greatest gimmick cereal every created: The Nintendo Cereal System!
The thrilling conclusion to Mark and Jeremy's modern reboot of Captain N: The Game Master. Can Kevin murder Mega Man and steal back Princess Lana's love? Can Mother Brain secure the three boxes that contain her stuff? Can Jeremy get through reading in King Hippo's voice without destroying his vocal chords?
Jeremy got that vaccine fever (horny for vaccines) for a few days, so we decided to take a week off, in fear that an extra loopy episode could turn our upcoming Part 3 into a 4-Parter. Woof. So here's an oldie from the Captain N days! Pat from Castle Super Beast joins the podcast to talk about how goddamn fucked up Captain N: The Game Master is! Simon Belmont shoots himself in the ass with a love arrow, accidentally forcing him to fall in love with Mother Brain. Meanwhile, Mega Man and Kid Icarus meet another deeply fucked up cow. But most importantly, the gang fights, for about 5 seconds, Mr. Bones — a cool 80s skeleton man wearing a skeleton shirt. Mr. Bones fuckin rules, you guys. You're gonna love Mr. Bones.
Mark and Jeremy sit down to write the script for a dark, gritty reboot of Captain N: The Game Master. 30 years after leaving his childhood bedroom to enter Video Land, a depressed 46-year-old Kevin Keene still lives there. Can he win back Princess Lana's love? Or does she have eyes for Diddy Kong?

Let's wrap up our review of 1990 Saturday morning TV with a look at the bizarre lineup on NBC. We had a couple of cartoonified SCTV stars taking care of weird kids (John Candy in Camp Candy and Rick Moranis in Gravedale High), Captain N: The Game Master (with a shameless parade of Nintendo characters), movie parodies from the Chipmunks, awkward cartoon dancing from Kid 'n Play... and the beginning of the end for Saturday morning cartoons with Saved By the Bell and The Guys Next Door. (Don't remember The Guys Next Door? It was a Monkees-style sitcom about a New Kids-style boy band. And as a civilization, we have collectively decided to pretend it never happened.) WELCOME TO SEASON TWO OF THE PODCAST, PAISANOS! Mark and Jeremy embark on a quest to watch and discuss every episode of 1989's Captain N: The Game Master, a cartoon about a boy named Kevin who gets pulled into an NES with his dog. There, Kevin befriends Simon Belmont, Megaman, and Kid Icarus — none of which seem even remotely related to their video game counterparts. Meanwhile in the live action, nothing happens. This show's all cartoon, sewer simps!

Try on your best Irish accent, fill up a bowl with beans (but not too full), and pull your flashy, splashy green suit out of the closet for next Sunday as shazbazzar and JediShua travel back and forth through time in TechnoRetro Dads. We Love Our Cereal The Roving Spoonster finds places to eat cereal all round the United States while shazbazzar risks injury to his still recovering gums with a bowl of Cap’n Crunch’s Chocolatey Berry Crunch splashed with milk. A singular question arises: “How powerful are the Soggies?” Saturday Mornings: Video Games Cartoons Sure, you remember Pac-Man and Super Mario Bros. Super Show, but were you around when Pole Position seemed like Speed Racer and Knight Rider made a guest appearance on M.A.S.K.? Was the Legend of Zelda the adventure you craved? Maybe you’re one of several EarBuds who witnessed Kevin splash into the games like Flynn into TRON in Captain N: The Game Master. Whatever your interest, from cute to captivating, ‘80s and ‘90s Saturday mornings (and weekday afternoons) were able to capitalize on consumers’ interest in video games whenever and wherever possible. SuperFriends and EarBuds remember some shows that made a lasting impact on them back in the day. Let’s All Go to the Movies: Splash Tom Hanks is rescued by Darryl Hannah as John Candy and Eugene Levy seek their own interests in this thirty-five year-old romantic comedy that had us rolling as kids and continues to provide a good time in Ron Howard’s Splash. This very well might have been your father’s The Little Mermaid if he was part of Generation X. Star Wars Scrapbook In anticipation for the upcoming Star Wars Celebration in Chicago, shazbazzar and JediShua cover what was happening in our galaxy this month in the ‘90s with the likes of Steroid Luke, Hahnold Swartzenegger, and Yoda Garcia and other memories from twelve to twenty-two years ago when Star Wars was making a big splash twenty to thirty years after its inception. Feedback The EarBuds and RetroZappers are making their own splash on TechnoRetro Dads this week as Stuffedy tries to let us in on a free play point-and-click adventure online and Joey of the Animanicast finds his Indiana Jones role-playing game book as well as Palpatine and Shmi in The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. Thanks for tuning in to TechnoRetro Dads, EarBuds! Be sure to check out episodes you may have missed on iTunes, Apple Podcasts, or at TechnoRetroDads.libsyn.com. Don’t forget to rate and review TechnoRetro Dads on iTunes, share us and with us on social media, get TechnoRetro merch at TeePublic, and join discussions on Discord about toys, cereal, games, movies and/or shows from the ‘70s and ‘80s by giving the ‘Dads your feedback via voice mail at (209) 878-7323 or sending us your mp3dback via electronic-M to podcast@TechnoRetroDads.com.

After positing a question to the folks about one's potential inability to "go home again" and fully-appreciate books of a certain era the way we used to, we synopsize and review the issue itself. following the review, Chris takes advantage of this being the first episode of 2019 by reflecting on the "2018 Year in Cosmic Treadmill", and shares his Top Five episodes from 2018... that you might've slept on. -- THE TOP FIVE 5. Ready player one: start! In this episode, gamers Chris (@AceComics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) dive into the weird world of Videoland when they read Captain N: The Game Master #1, published in 1990 by Valiant Comics! After a brief look at the history of video games and Nintendo, our Italian plumbers read all four stories in the issue, providing creator biographies whenever it "seems" applicable. After a short break, the guys return to provide an exhaustive history of Valiant, thanks to exhaustive research by Ryan McLelland, and talk about some of Nintendo's less popular innovations. It's more fun than you can shake a joystick at, and you won't even need to put your quarters up! [Digital Gonzo 2011] The first instalment of our pop quiz show episodes based on the winning format of long-running and superb British music quiz; Never mind the Buzzcocks.. This one was centred around 80s cartoons, others include commercials, music, toys and a special episode on the 90s. If you used to watch Transformers, Thundercats and the Ninja Turtles (or if you still do) you will love this episode. If, however you remember the obscure ones like Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors and Captain N: The Game Master then this will evoke so many memories you may go completely 2D! If you're too young to have been there first time, be prepared for confusion, and learning a thing or two about the old timers. This was one of the most fun podcasts I've ever had the pleasure to record. I was joined by Michael Fox of Joypod, Neil Taylor of GameBurst and DC forumites Matt Ramsey and Duncan O Sullivan. We laughed so hard it hurt. Stick around for the end for a buffet of Easter Eggs at the end. Our aim is to have you intermittently laughing, groaning in recognition, going all misty-eyed and shouting at your iPod, so if that happens; job done.
Wherein we discuss Captain N: The Game Master, Free Comic Book Day, the trouble with mass transit, the iPad revisited, Doctor Who 5x03, merry thievery, Avatar, The Human Centipede, the Halo 2 Twelve, and awesome TV shows. Starring Ryan Scott, Karen Chu, Andrew Fitch, and Ryan Higgins.
