Canadian comedy legend Dave Thomas is here. What else is there to say? If you want to understand the last half century of comedy from SCTV to SNL to The Simpsons you only need to look to the comedic big bang moment when Thomas, Moranis, Levy and Martin converged on Toronto in the early 1970s. So Dave Thomas will tell you all about it, eh?Of course SCTV is only one of the hats (toques) the writer, actor, producer and director has worn. Thomas brings us up to speed on his latest venture, travelling to Ukraine to film a documentary on the country's stand up comedians.Credits: Host: Jesse BrownCaleb Thompson (Audio Engineering), Bruce Thorson (Senior Producer), max collins (Director of Audio), Jesse Brown (Editor and Publisher)Fact checking by Julian AbrahamAdditional music by Audio NetworkFor more information on the Freedom Fund go to:https://ukrfreedomfund.org/Sponsors: The Oat Company: Head over to https://oatcompany.com and use code CANADALAND20 for 20% off your order. now there's a live dog. Did you watch Goodfellas back in 1990 and think “Hey, this should be a wacky comedy with Rick Moranis and Steve Martin”? If so, you're in luck. You're in so much luck.Like Goodfellas, My Blue Heaven is loosely based on the story of Henry Hill, the mobster who went into the witness protection program. Goodfellas ends with a vision of Hill standing in front of an dull suburban tract home, haunted and disappointed, an anonymous schnook. My Blue Heaven starts at that very moment, as Steve Martin's smooth criminal slides into suburbia like a streak of mercury. There, restless and bored, he meets his case handler, a buttoned-down bureaucrat played by Rick Moranis. From that point on the film becomes a perverse buddy comedy, as Martin teaches Moranis to loosen his buttons a bit, and Moranis teaches Martin… well, nothing really. But he writes an extremely entertaining book! Listen to Adam and Aidan talk about sartorial tips and merengue lessons below, or find us on your podmaker of choice.

For the month of November, we're throwing a four-episode Friendsgiving celebration and inviting friends old and new to talk about some of their favorite films! We start with welcoming returning guest Frank Bonanno to discuss the Steve Martin/Rick Moranis mob movie My Blue Heaven, a de facto comedic sequel to Goodfellas (which came out a few weeks later). Writer Nora Ephron was married to Henry Hill biographer Nicholas Pileggi during the writing of Wiseguy and took real stories of Hill's time in witness protection as inspiration for her screenplay. We talk about the Goodfellas connections, the crazy casting process that at one point had Arnold Schwarzenegger playing mobster Vinnie Antonelli, Joan Cusack's excellent work as prosecutor Hannah Stubbs - who holds her own toe to toe with Martin's Antonelli and Moranis's Barney Coopersmith, the difficulties of finding good Italian food in certain parts of the country, and the idea of a heaven populated by mobsters in witness protection. Let's hit the dance floor and do the merengue--don't forget to overtip your server!

This movie doesn't get enough love. Big Bully starring Rick Moranis and Tom Arnold is one of those 90s movies with balls. Great gags, swearing, assault on minors. It has it all! Tom Arnold and Moranis work really well together and if the movie score had a more darker tone, one could argue this would be a thriller based upon how the plot shapes up in the third act. We highly recommend this underrated 90s gem.During the Break: Spoof of the Prince song "Little Red Corvette"Friends of the Show1 Man Mafia (twitch.tv/1man_mafia)Jayke The Gamer God (twitch.tv/JaykeTheGamerGod)Keeping it Geekly (anchor.fm/keepingitgeekly)Intro for the shopSupport the show'Beavis and Butt-head' Cover art created by Joe Crawford

If you're a child of the eighties, you'll remember Rick Moranis. He was one of the biggest comic stars of the era, with iconic roles in GHOSTBUSTERS I & II, HONEY, I SHRUNK THE KIDS and many more. But, somewhere around the mid-nineties, Moranis seemed to drop off the map, vanishing from sight, only returning for the occasional voice role in things like Disney's BROTHER BEAR. In our latest edition of WTF Happened to This Celebrity, we try to figure out why Moranis seemingly abandoned his thriving Hollywood career. It turns out that Moranis simply decided to focus on things that were more important to him (family). We dig into this as well as his career origins on SCTV, where he and co-star Dave Thomas famously created the beer-swilling Canucks, Bob & Doug McKenzie, before hitting the big time with a feature film (STRANGE BREW) that remains a cult classic. From there, Moranis' career was on fire, with him taking over for John Candy as Louis Tully in GHOSTBUSTERS, before becoming an unlikely (and famous) leading man in his own comedies, including HONEY, I SHRUNK THE KIDS (and its sequel HONEY, I BLEW UP THE KID), LITTLE GIANTS, PARENTHOOD, and more.
It's time we answer the eternal question: Who Ya Gonna Call? The Ghostbusters. In all their various forms, as we watched Ghostbusters (1984), Ghostbusters II (1989), Ghostbusters: Answer the Call (2016), and Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021). And while some of them may not hit for the younger generation, the nostalgia play is strong with the franchise.Subscribe, rate and review:Apple Podcasts: Our Film FathersSpotify: Our Film FathersGoogle Podcasts: Our Film FathersStitcher: Our Film FathersAmazon Music: Our Film Fathers-----------------------Follow us:Instagram: @ourfilmfathersTwitter: @ourfilmfathersEmail: ourfilmfathers@gmail.com

**Warning as info changes we will do our best to record new episodes and update info** On today's episode, we chat with Rachel Moranis, the CEO of Stardust Period Tracker. Rachel explains app data sharing, encryption, and everything we need to know about being able to track our cycles without our information being shared. We won't mention any names but… (throat-clearing cough that sounds suspiciously like the word “flo”) some apps sell your personal data for advertising reasons. On the contrary, The Stardust app never sells your data, and it keeps you anonymous through encryption. It's also female-owned, compared to some period tracking apps that are owned by men and large companies. Besides the fact that advertisers creepily want to know when we're ovulating because marketing research has shown that people tend to buy more during those days, it also may be important to keep your health data inaccessible for legal reasons. It's crazy to think about, but there may be a day in the near future where someone's cycle information could get subpoenaed in a court of law - potentially to try and incriminate someone in a state where abortion may soon become illegal. Hopefully not, but doesn't it make sense to track your data in an encrypted and private way, just in case? Check out Stardust here --> https://www.thestardustapp.com/ Here is a list of period tracking apps that are not selling your data: 1. Stardust 2. The Agenda Period 3. Clue

This week the boys go somewhere that's green as they tackle the film musical that's based off a stage musical, which in itself is based off of a 1960s sci-fi film. They get meaner than a mother from outer space, and suddenly Seymour to this film than they ever did before.
Steven Spielberg famously decided to make "Little Giants" after seeing a McDonald's Super Bowl ad and exclaiming, "I want my 'Home Alone!'" He didn't quite get a blockbuster children's movie, but Spielberg might have been on to something. When you combine Rick Moranis, Ed O'Neill, and a bunch of misfit kids with football and fart jokes, parents can't help but feel squishy. But Gene Lyons isn't a parent. He also isn't a moviegoer who will tolerate easy stereotypes, inorganic relationships, dumb training montages, or sports movies with trick plays. Who will win the day in this review? Will it be Ash with her cutthroat views on child performance? Will it be Big D with his football history? Or will it be Gene hatred of storied sports franchises? A Conversation about Women's Cycles with Rachel Moranis Rachel Moranis is the creator of Stardust, an app that accurately tracks women's cycles with the rhythms of the moon and cosmos. It's no coincidence that the length of your menstrual cycle exactly matches the waxing and waning of the moon. The Stardust app integrates science, astronomy, and artificial intelligence to connect your hormonal cycle with the cycles of larger celestial bodies: the stars, planets, sun, and moon. In this podcast, we discuss how bleed times indicate where you are in your life, ancestral ways of honouring your cycles and bleed times, and what happens when you enter your crone years. The app is eerily accurate and includes categorizations of white witch, red witch, pink witch, and purple witch moon bleeders - which we also discuss in the interview. Found out more about it here: https://www.thestardustapp.com/

Little Shop Of Horrors was a black comedy musical film directed by Frank Oz. Released in 1986, it was an adaptation of Alan Menken and Howard Ashman's off-broadway musical of the same name, which itself was an adaptation of the 1960 science fiction film directed by Roger Corman. It featured Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene, and Steve Martin, and a carnivorous plant that came from out of nowhere, but immediately causes trouble for the citizens of Skid Row.On this episode of Hell Is A Musical, Scott and Lilz welcome their first ever guest; theatrical actor and director David Allen Prescott, to dig into Little Shop Of Horrors, marvel at the practical effects and catchy songs, and be thoroughly perplexed at the rare occurrence of a really genuinely good movie on this show....with Lilz & Scott!

Ghostbusters II (1989) d. Ivan Reitman Starring:Dan AkroydHarold RamisBill MurrayErnie HudsonSigourney WeaverAnnie PottsRick MoranisPeter MacNicol On this week's episode of TMR, Steve and Ryan watch 1989's not-quite-classic sequel Ghostbusters II. Ryan talks about the time he broke his dad's heart and may have inadvertently killed the family dog, Steve breaks down the way this generation's kids consume content, they speculate on the complicated mythology of Bill Murray, and both wish they could walk around inside Dan Akroyd's weird, crazy noggin'. Ivan Reitman's sequel to the phenomenally successful Ghostbusters is looser and more self-assured than the original. The film opens with a title reading "Five Years Later" and finds the ghostbusters living in hard times. A restraining order has forbidden the boys to partake in paranormal warfare, and as a result they have had to seek other lines of work. Ray (Dan Aykroyd) and Winston (Ernie Hudson) spend their time performing at children's' birthday parties, and Egon (Harold Ramis) is busy conducting experiments investigating the effect of human emotions on the environment, leaving ghostbusting behind. Venkman (Bill Murray) and Dana (Sigourney Weaver) have split up. Venkman now hosts a local cable show called "The World of the Psychic." Dana, now divorced and the mother of a little baby named Oscar, works as an art restorer in a museum -- and this is where the plot kicks in. While Dana is restoring a portrait of a 16th-century tyrant by the name of Vigo the Carpathian, the portrait becomes hexed. The evil Vigo wants to return to life by taking over the body of Dana's little child. Vigo has enlisted Dana's boss, Janosz Poha (Peter MacNicol), to compel Dana to cooperate. Soon dirty sludge and slime flow through the streets of Manhattan, and the ghostbusters have to reunite to save the city from a funky paranormal evil. ~ Paul Brenner, Rovi Things discussed in the show: Hail, Caesar! - The Cohen Brothers, Josh Brolin, Alden Ehrenreich The Big Labowski, Burn After Reading, O' Brother Where Art Thou, A Serious Man Steven Spielberg Sam Rockwell Ghostbusters (2016) Spy - Melissa McCarthy, Jude Law, Jason Statham Bram Stoker's Dracula Leslie Nielsen - Naked Gun The Rover - Guy Pearce, Robert Pattinson Animal Kingdom - Ben Mendelsohn The Revenant The Oscars - Chris Rock, Jada Pinkett Smith Amy, What's Happened, Miss Simone?
