My guest on the show today is Garvin Jabusch, Co-Founder and Chief Investment Officer for Green Alpha Advisors. I had last spoken Garvin in April 2020 discussing his investing philosophy then a follow up panel in August 2020 about why ESG and impact investing are taking center stage. It's been three years. Suffice it to say, A LOT has changed since then, across the board, as well as the conversation around ESG. You might be hearing this and thinking that you're about to listen to a full-on ESG podcast. Sure, we discuss the changing discourse around ESG/impact investing, but what I found most fascinating is our discussion around the intersectionality of trends and sectors, which is starting to take center stage in sustainability investing. Terri Spath, founder and chief investment officer at Zuma Wealth, says the market seems to be in the middle of a correction now, with a choppy trend that is challenging investors' patience and judgment. She says investors are having a tough time determining if inflationary pressures are transient and temporary or if they represent real trouble, and she says that story will play out in the currency and cryptocurrency markets as well as in the bond market later this year. Also on the show, Tom Lydon of ETFTrends.com picks a core fund that takes a leveraged approach as his ETF of the Week, and Garvin Jabusch, chief investment officer for Green Alpha Advisors, talks about 'Next Economy Investing' in the Market Call.
For this episode of the Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke Garvin Jabusch, Chief Investment Officer for Green Alpha Advisors. The firm’s mission is to, “grow our clients’ capital by building portfolios that tap into the innovation-driven economy and limit exposure to major systemic risks”, according to their website. Green Alpha’s focus on investing in the Next Economy and looking for companies that are addressing systemic risks, is why I invited Garvin on to discuss their investing philosophy and thesis. He also has one of the coolest and more unique backgrounds that I’ve spoken too. For all of you who are also fans of Indiana Jones, you will too. Planet MicroCap Podcast is on YouTube! Brian Beitner, portfolio manager of Chautauqua International Growth and Chautauqua Global Growth, says that the market and the global economy are in a delicate condition, which raises fears of how an event like coronavirus could create a downturn. Beitner says he thinks the virus situation is transitory and that the market recognizes that it's not going to crash the market or create once-in-a-lifetime buying opportunities in China and emerging markets; he recommends finding stocks with 'durable stories' to get through choppy, volatile markets. Separately, William Delwiche of Baird says the current rally remains healthy from a technical standpoint, noting that so long as market breadth is strong, investors should not fight the trend. Also on the show, Tony Huang of Advent Convertible and Income Fund talks convertible and closed-end fund investing in The NAVigator, and Garvin Jabusch of Green Alpha Advisors covers stock investments with a social point of view in the Market Call.
Modern portfolio theory, a theory used by many investors, is now 70 years old. Is this way of investing still “modern” or is it time for a change? In today’s episode, Kimberly Griego-Kiel has a conversation around the future of investing with Garvin Jabusch, co-founder and CIO of Green Alpha Advisors. Gavin shares what his … Continue reading Episode 13 — A Vision for the Next Economy in Sustainable Investing — With Garvin Jabusch →
