https://www.sedona.com/home.asp Hale Dwoskin's Bio and Story Hale Dwoskin is the New York Times best-selling author of "The Sedona Method," and is featured in the movies, "The Secret" and "Letting Go." He is the founder of Sedona Training Associates, an organization that teaches courses based on the emotional releasing techniques inspired by his mentor, Lester Levenson. Hale is an international speaker, as well as a founding member of The Transformational Leadership Council. For over four decades, he has regularly been teaching the Sedona Method to individuals and corporations throughout the world, and has been leading coach trainings and advanced retreats since the early 1990s. He is also the co-author with Lester Levenson of "Happiness Is Free: And It's Easier Than You Think!" Sedona Training Associates is an educational training organization that was created to continue fulfilling Levenson's wish to share the practical and powerful methods he discovered for removing an individual's personal blocks to abundance, health, happiness, and success. Hundreds of thousands of people from all walks of life worldwide have benefited from this work. Here is Hale's Story, excerpted from The Sedona Method: Your Key to Lasting Happiness, Success, Peace and Emotional Well-being, Sedona Press September 2003. In 1976, I met Lester Levenson, the man who inspired the creation of the Sedona Method who would also become my mentor. Back then, I was an ardent, although confused, seeker who had gone to numerous seminars led by teachers from both the East and the West. I had studied various body-centered disciplines, including yoga, tai chi, and shiatsu. I had actively participated in numerous personal growth courses, including EST, Actualism, Theta Seminars, and Rebirthing. At these seminars, I had many nice experiences and heard and understood—at least intellectually—many useful concepts. Still, I felt incomplete. I longed for a simple and powerful answer to some important yet vexing questions like: “What is my life's purpose?” “What is truth?” “Who am I?” and “How can I feel at home and at peace with my life?” Much of what I heard and experienced only added to my questioning. No one seemed to have truly satisfying answers or to have truly satisfied themselves about their true nature. There was also a strong, almost universal belief that growing was hard work that required baring your soul and reliving painful, unresolved issues. That all changed during my very fortunate encounter with this remarkable man. I met Lester at a seminar led by a well-known speaker that Lester was attending as the leader's guest. That day, a group of us went out to lunch together. Lester's presence immediately struck me as unique. He was in total peace and equal-mindedness, very comfortable with himself. He was unassuming and easy to talk to and treated everyone as his friend—even me, a complete stranger. It was obvious that he'd ended his search by discovering the answers I'd been seeking. I knew I had to find out more. When I asked Lester what he did, he invited me to a seminar that was being held the next weekend. All he would tell me was that “a group of people is going to sit around a table and release.” I wasn't sure what releasing meant, but I knew if it could even point me in the direction of the qualities of which Lester was the living embodiment, I definitely wanted it. I took a leap of faith and signed up on the spot.

Eric interviews Mark Levenson, the Executive Editor of Coral Magazine, a saltwater aquarium publication, where he discusses the current state of the magazine and the hobby. Levenson notes that Coral Magazine is the last remaining publication of its kind, attributing declining sales to a vulnerable economy, international tariffs affecting advertisers, and a general lack of new, younger talent entering the saltwater aquarium community. He also describes the demanding process of producing the magazine, which is published six times a year, detailing his transition into the editor role without formal training following his predecessor's sudden death, and his ongoing work to ensure the content is accurate and well-referenced, even experimenting with AI-generated content to highlight its risks. The conversation also explores Levenson's personal history in the hobby, including his journey from a young enthusiast to a business owner and respected community figure who champions civility and education. Key Takeaways: To ensure the longevity of a specialized field, actively work to foster and cultivate the next generation of experts and contributors. In business interactions, look beyond polite, silent rejections to understand and address the prospect's real insecurities or concerns. When faced with major personal changes, dedicate resources and energy to your own hobbies and passions for rejuvenation and a sense of self. Seek out educational conferences and gatherings related to your interests to gain expert knowledge directly and build a network of valuable contacts. When creating or managing a community, establish and enforce clear guidelines that prioritize kindness and respectful communication among members.

Dr. Eli Levenson-Falk joins Sebastian Hassinger, host of The New Quantum Era to discuss his group's recent advances in quantum measurement and control, focusing on a new protocol that enables measurements more sensitive than the Ramsey limit. Published in Nature Communications in April 2025, this work demonstrates a coherence stabilized technique that not only enhances sensitivity for quantum sensing but also promises improvements in calibration speed and robustness for superconducting quantum devices and other platforms. The conversation travels from Eli's origins in physics, through the conceptual challenges of decoherence, to experimental storytelling, and highlights the collaborative foundation underpinning this breakthrough.Guest BioEli Levenson-Falk is an Associate Professor at USC. He earned his PhD at UC Berkeley with Professor Irfan Siddiqui, and now leads an experimental physics research group working with superconducting devices for quantum information science. Key TopicsThe new protocol described in the paper: “Beating the Ramsey Limit on Sensing with Deterministic Qubit Control." Beyond the Ramsey measurement: How the team's technique stabilizes part of the quantum state for enhanced sensitivity—especially for energy level splittings—using continuous, slowly varying microwave control, applicable beyond just superconducting platforms. From playground swings to qubits: Eli explains how the physics of a playground swing inspired his passion for the field and lead to his understanding of the transmon qubit, and why analogies matter for intuition. Quantum decoherence and stabilization: How the method controls the “vector” of a quantum state on the Bloch sphere, dumping decoherence into directions that can be tracked or stabilized, markedly increasing measurement fidelity. Calibration and practical speedup: The protocol achieves greater measurement accuracy in less time or greater accuracy for a given time investment. This has implications for both calibration routines in quantum computers and for direct quantum measurements of fields (e.g., magnetic) or material properties. Applicability: While demonstrated on superconducting transmons, the protocol's generality means it may bring improved sensitivity to a variety of platforms—though the greatest benefits will be seen where relaxation processes dominate decoherence over dephasing. Collaboration and credit: The protocol was the product of a collaborative effort with theorist Daniel Lidar and his group, also at USC. In Eli's group, Malida Hecht conducted the experiment. Why It MattersBy breaking through the Ramsey sensitivity limit, this work provides a new tool for both quantum device calibration and quantum sensing. It allows for more accurate and faster frequency calibration within quantum processors, as well as finer detection of small environmental changes—a dual-use development crucial for both scalable quantum computing and sensitive quantum detection technologies.Episode Highlights Explanation of the “Ramsey limit” in quantum measurement and why surpassing it is significant. Visualization of quantum states using the Bloch sphere, and the importance of stabilizing the equatorial (phase) components for sensitivity. Experimental journey from “plumber” lab work to analytic insights, showing the back-and-forth of theory confronting experiment. Immediate and future impacts, from more efficient calibration in quantum computers to potentially new standards for quantum sensing. Discussion of related and ongoing work, such as improvements to deterministic benchmarking for gate calibration, and the broader applicability to various quantum platforms. If you enjoy The New Quantum Era, subscribe and tell your quantum-curious friends! “A gentleman's hands are [always] clean” Infectious diseases caused by bacteria have killed well over half of all humans who have ever lived on Earth. Historically, bacterial infections have started major pandemics such as the bubonic plague, which is estimated to have killed 50-60 per cent of the population of Europe during the Black Death in the 14th Century. And yet when a person in Oregon came down with bubonic plague in 2024 it was a non-event. The pathogen involved was quickly identified and antibiotics given. There was no chain of infection and no epidemic. And the patient lived. Germ theory is one of the most transformative developments in human history. … Continue reading →

As recently as 1900, pnuemonia, influenza, tuberculosis, and gut infections accounted for half of all deaths in the United States. And yet, humans had known of the existence of germs since the invention of the microscope and the Scientific Revolution in the 17th century - to precious little advantage. Thomas Levenson joins the podcast to tell the epic story of how we finally came to grasp the role of germs as a cause of disease and develop a powerful arsenal to fight them. She outlines how leaders can reclaim their focus, lead with intention, and foster quiet influence by becoming profoundly self-aware. Alanna also shares the three critical questions business owners should ask daily to stay on a growth path. --- Build Your Team's Self-Awareness with Alanna Levenson Good day, dear listeners, Steve Preda here with the Management Blueprint Podcast. And my guest today is Alanna Levenson, business coach and workshop facilitator who helps driven business owners reach their highest potential and take no excuses action. Alanna, welcome to the show. It's good to be here. Well, I'm super curious about how you do that with these business owners, even though they are driven, which is a good given. But let's start with my favorite question. What is your personal “Why” and what are you doing to manifest it in your practice? Yeah. So, the question of our “Why.” I mean, I asked that of my clients too. It's an important one, because if we don't know what it is, then in essence, we're directionless and we're disconnected. So when I think about that, I reflect back at when I was very young and I was introverted and very shy and didn't really feel like I had much of a voice. I was also very insecure. And there were things that I did throughout my life, like I studied dancing, which was more of a physical expression than a verbal one. But I did it in a very committed way for, I mean, I could say from when I was four until I was 18, but I even did it in college. So really my “Why” is about connecting with yourself, finding confidence, knowing your voice, and what does your voice wanna say?Share on X And that will evolve throughout your lifetime because what my voice has wanted to express or is currently expressing is very different than even who I was just a few years ago.  So, my “Why” is really reflecting and connecting with who you are, understanding that we are evolving living beings. And we're having this incredible experience and that we're not the only ones on the planet. So, since we're constantly bumping up against other people in life and in work, how can we be the best that we can be while also supporting others and being the best that they can be too? Yeah, okay. That's, that's pretty powerful. Be the best we can be and make other people the best that they can be as well. I love it. So how do you do this? How do you help your clients kind of map out a roadmap to get there? So what does it take to be the best you can be as a business owner as you are traversing this terrain and trying to be in the business and be a better human? Well, I've been coaching for 20 years, and even my journey with coaching has evolved over time. My clientele has evolved. The “Why's” have evolved within the clientele as well. And where I am now, it's about giving people, it's not so much a framework as it is guardrails. And then there's a very intuitive, organic, custom process within that, that I work with people on. But if we're talking about a roadmap or the word MAP, as an acronym, I am using that as a framework. So what do I mean by that? So the M, if you think of that in terms of your mindset and your mission, if I was to sum that up, it's about reconnecting to your purpose, your “Why.” It's reclaiming your focus. So what I've noticed about people is they tend to get very distracted and it's easy and it's becoming quote unquote easier to get distracted these days, especially because of so many things happening in the world and the world changing so fast.

Scientists and enthusiastic amateurs first confirmed the existence of living things invisible to the human eye in the late sixteenth century. So why did it take two centuries to connect microbes to disease? As late as the Civil War in the 1860s, most soldiers who perished died not on the battlefield but of infected wounds, typhoid, and other diseases. Twenty years later, the outcome might have been different, following one of the most radical intellectual transformations in history: germ theory, the recognition that the tiniest forms of life have been humankind’s greatest killers. It was a discovery centuries in the making, and it transformed modern life and public health. As today’s guest, Thomas Levenson (author of “So Very Small: How Humans Discovered the Microcosmos, Defeated Germs—and May Still Lose the War Against Infectious Disease”) reveals in this globe-spanning history, it has everything to do with how we see ourselves. For centuries, people in the West, believing themselves to hold dominion over nature, thought too much of humanity and too little of microbes to believe they could take us down. When nineteenth-century scientists finally made the connection, life-saving methods to control infections and contain outbreaks soon followed. The next big break came with the birth of the antibiotic era in the 1930s. And yet, less than a century later, the promise of the antibiotic revolution is already receding due to years of overuse. Is our self-confidence getting the better of us again? So Very Small follows the thread of human ingenuity and hubris across centuries—along the way peering into microscopes, spelunking down sewers, visiting army hospitals, traipsing across sheep fields, and more—to show how we came to understand the microbial environment and how little we understand ourselves. Levenson traces how and why ideas are pursued, accepted, or ignored—and hence how human habits of mind can, so often, make it terribly hard to ask the right questions.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The germ theory of disease is a crowning achievement of science, up there with modern physics, continental drift, and evolution via natural selection. (Even if there will always be cranky skeptics.) But the road to widespread acceptance isn't always an easy one. MIT professor Thomas Levenson is one of America's most celebrated science writers and filmmakers. In his upcoming new book, So Very Small, Levenson charts the history of germ theory to underline how modern scientific research has changed the world and saved tens of millions of lives. Not surprisingly, then, Levenson expresses deep concern about the Trump administration's attacks on the American scientific establishment, particularly funding cuts affecting critical research. He warns against growing the anti-vaccine ideology, explaining how periods of rapid social change often trigger the kind of anti-expertise attitudes articulated by paranoid reactionaries like RFK Jr. FIVE TAKEAWAYS* Science in America is under assault by the Trump administration through funding cuts to critical research institutions like NIH, which doesn't just affect current work but dismantles research infrastructure that takes years to build.* Levenson's book "So Very Small" traces how humans discovered microbes and developed treatments for infectious diseases, showing both scientific progress and persistent resistance to medical innovations like vaccines.* Anti-vaccine sentiment has grown from fringe to mainstream, with RFK Jr.'s appointment as head of health policy representing a serious threat to public health despite the overwhelming evidence supporting vaccine efficacy.* The COVID pandemic demonstrated both scientific triumph (developing vaccines in record time) and societal division, reflecting a pattern where rapid social change often triggers anti-expertise attitudes.* Antibiotic resistance represents a growing crisis where previously curable infections are becoming untreatable, not because of scientific failure but because of social choices about how we've deployed these medications.Thomas Levenson is a professor of science writing at MIT. He is the author of several books, including So Very Small, Money for Nothing, The Hunt for Vulcan, Einstein in Berlin, and Newton and the Counterfeiter: The Unknown Detective Career of the World's Greatest Scientist. He has also made ten feature-length documentaries (including a two-hour Nova program on Einstein) for which he has won numerous awards.Keen On America is a reader-supported publication. In this special bonus episode of Next on the Tee, I'm honored to be joined by Dr. Russell Levenson. Russ recently retired after 32 years in ministry, most notably serving 17 years as Rector of St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Houston—the largest Anglican/Episcopal congregation in North America. He's a renowned theologian, author, and speaker who also developed a deep friendship with President George H.W. and First Lady Barbara Bush. Russ talks about his inspiring new book, “In God's Grip: What Golf Can Teach Us About the Bible,” with a foreword by the legendary Jim Nantz. We dive into the powerful spiritual and life lessons drawn from golf and how the swing philosophies of Ben Hogan intertwine with Biblical wisdom. From focusing on fundamentals to letting go of perfection, Russ explores how the mindset that helped Hogan master the game can also guide our spiritual journeys. We also reflect on his close relationship with the Bush family, what heaven meant to them, and how the second half of the book—The Downswing—challenges our assumptions about God as a harsh judge, encouraging instead a perspective of grace, abundance, and purpose. Plus, we talk Augusta, Oakmont, and Jim Nantz's unforgettable first Masters call in 1986. This conversation is full of insight, inspiration, and a few good swings of perspective. Whether you're seeking more meaning in your game or your life, this is one you won't want to miss.

When Cheryl Bradshaw appeared on the popular game show The Dating Game in 1978, she was charmed by bachelor number one, Rodney Alcala, and by the end of the episode, she'd chosen him to take her on a date. However, just minutes after the episode finished taping, Cheryl met bachelor number two in person backstage and was immediately uncomfortable and quickly contacted producers of the show to cancel the date. What Bradshaw didn't know at the time was that, in doing so, she had narrowly avoided spending an evening in the company of one of America's most notorious serial killers. At the time of his appearance on The Dating Game in 1978, Alcala was a convicted sexual predator who had served time for sexual assault and had only avoided a charge of attempted murder on a technicality. After his arrest, investigators would learn that, by the time he appeared on the game show, he was also a killer. In the year that followed, Alcala would go on to murder several other women until he was finally caught and convicted for his crimes. At his trial, Rodney Alcala was found guilty of eight murders, among other crimes, but he is suspected of several other murders, perhaps as many as one hundred or more.Thank you to the Incredible Dave White of Bring Me the Axe Podcast for research and Writing support!ReferencesAssociated Press. 1980. This week, in their liturgical recitation and study of the Hebrew Bible, Jewish communities all over the world will relive the terrifying moment when God commands Abraham to take his son, his beloved son, who was to be his heir and fulfill his deepest dreams for family transmission and ancestry, Isaac, and sacrifice him. What is this passage all about? What does it mean? What can be learned about Abraham, about Isaac, or about God by reading it carefully? Joining Mosaic's editor Jonathan Silver to discuss these questions on this week's podcast (originally broadcast in 2023) is Jon D. Levenson, a professor of Jewish studies at Harvard Divinity School and frequent Mosaic contributor. Levenson has written about this episode in several books, including The Death and Resurrection of the Beloved Son published in 1993 by Yale University Press, and also in Inheriting Abraham, published in 2012 by Princeton University Press. Akeidat Yitzḥak, the binding of Isaac, as the Jewish people traditionally refer to this episode, has a long afterlife in Christian and Muslim traditions; it is also a centerpiece of philosophical reflection among modern thinkers like Immanuel Kant and Soren Kierkegaard. Reading the text now in the aftermath of those later reflections, it's difficult to retrieve its original meaning. The temptation is overwhelming to propose moral justifications for Abraham and for God, to excuse or at least to try to soften the drama of Genesis 22. To hear what the text of the Hebrew Bible really might have to say in response to that temptation requires undoing some modern assumptions—a task that Levenson and Silver take up.

The recent election loss of Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón to Nathan Hochman has raised uncertainty about the fate of Erik and Lyle Menendez, who are seeking resentencing nearly 30 years after their murder convictions. Hochman, a former federal prosecutor, emphasized he needs time to review the case thoroughly before deciding on the resentencing recommendation that could lead to the brothers' release. “I will have to review the confidential prison files for each brother, the transcripts from both trials, and speak to the prosecutors, law enforcement, defense counsel, and the victims' family members. Only then can I make a decision,” Hochman said. He added that if more time is required, he will ask the court for an extension. Hochman takes office on December 2, and the resentencing hearing is scheduled for December 11. Legal experts believe the motion to resentence the Menendez brothers has significant momentum and could be difficult to stop. USC Gould School of Law professor Aya Gruber noted, “Unless there's some contingency that immediately bubbles up and says, ‘You know, this is horrible. This is a miscarriage of justice,' I can't imagine that this is going to be a priority for the new DA.” Gascón filed the resentencing motion in October after defense attorneys presented evidence in 2023 alleging years of abuse by Jose Menendez, arguing that this history had not been adequately considered during the original trials. The brothers were convicted of first-degree murder in 1996 for the 1989 killings of their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez, in their Beverly Hills home. Loyola Marymount University law professor Laurie Levenson explained that the Menendez brothers' legal strategy hinges on the court's decision regarding the resentencing. “Their best door for getting relief is the motion to reduce the sentence, and they might be able to get the court to do that,” Levenson said. She added, “I think that you're not going to see Hochman having a press conference about the Menendez case. He can just quietly let the court decide.” The brothers' first trial, televised and closely followed, ended in a mistrial when jurors were unable to reach a verdict. During the second trial, crucial evidence about the alleged abuse was excluded, leading to their conviction and life sentences without parole. The case has recently gained renewed interest following Netflix's “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” and a documentary featuring interviews with both brothers. Critics of Gascón's progressive policies, which included reducing incarceration and avoiding prosecution for certain nonviolent offenses, argued his approach compromised public safety. Hochman campaigned on these concerns, which contributed to his electoral victory. Despite this, Gruber said it is improbable that Hochman would make overturning Gascón's resentencing recommendation a priority unless compelling new evidence surfaces. Gascón has also supported the Menendez brothers' clemency bid to California Governor Gavin Newsom, who could grant their release immediately. Newsom's office has declined to comment on the matter, citing confidentiality around clemency requests. CNN legal analyst Joey Jackson emphasized the weight of the DA's opinion, even though it is ultimately up to the court and parole board. “It would be naive to suggest that a DA's recommendation – and it's a recommendation – is not otherwise really significant in terms of influencing a judge's decision … But I do think public opinion is very much favoring the release of the Menendez brothers,” Jackson said. The next steps in the case, including the December 11 hearing and potential clemency, will be pivotal. Gascón believes the brothers have paid their debt to society and should be given a chance at parole if deemed rehabilitated. As Hochman prepares to assume his role, the outcome of this high-profile case remains uncertain. #MenendezBrothers #LosAngelesDA #NathanHochman #GeorgeGascón #TrueCrime #Resentencing #NetflixSeries Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE?
