Today I share my conversation with Sharon Ehlers. She lost her best friend Joy and ex-fiancé John within a few years of each other, both to suicide. Sharon is the founder of Grief Reiki® - a multidimensional approach to grief and loss using emotional recovery, Reiki and other spirituality-based tools. She is also an award-winning Author, Grief Educator, Death Midwife and Reiki Master Teacher. She has three beautiful children and lives in Los Angeles, CA. She talks about the isolation she felt after her losses as well as the immense affect on her outlook on life and ultimately she took a completely new path.  She discusses how she started down this path by allowing herself to be led from spirit. She discusses how reiki was a stronger tool for her - as she was using before her loss - but she also discusses how her spiritual connection became more dialed in and developed as well.  She de-mystifies Reiki for us - us as basic laymen, AND we also dive a (little) deeper into energy healing and the whys and how's of it working.  Energy is everywhere and it's everything. Once we accept it - harnessing energy is easy and it IS SO HEALING!!! This is a fun and enlightening conversation and Sharon has wisdom worth listening to! Sharon's website is  Greif -Reiki  where you can find a great bog and SO MUCH MORE!Here's her blog post "How Grief Walking Saved Me"  Sharon's Books are: Grief Reiki  and Grief Diaries, Surviving Loss by SuicideHer Oracle Cards are available per the App Store or here on Amazon ________________________________________________  My brand NEW website "The Leftover Pieces; Rebuilding You" is LIVE and that means my 2 x/mo FREE SUPPORT GROUP is available AND my first coaching options are available. Please DM me on Instagram or email me at anytime melissa@theleftoverpieces.comThe website will be at www.theleftoverpieces.com  (naturally, right?)Please reach out to me if you know of someone that I should talk to or if you yourself would like to have a conversation around the suicide loss and grief space. Sharon has lost her best friend and her former fiance from suicide. In addition to that pain, she has also lost her father from a fall. This combination of heartaches and grief has put her in a dark place where she thought she was not gonna make it.However, she got up, faced grief, and even helped other people who are dealing with grief by founding her company, GRIEF REIKI.Episode Pointers: Back in 2009, I lost my best friend to suicide. And it just threw me into a place, you know, that I'd never been before.I felt so isolated and lost and didn't know where to go. And then a couple years later, my former fiance also died by suicide. So that double whammy, I felt even more isolated, because people were still, you know, they don't know what to say, you know, they they don't want to say .Most recently, my dad died, it's been four years he he died after a fall, but all of those things combined, it just put me in a dark place where literally, I thought I wasn't gonna make it, I really didn't, I couldn't understand what was going on or what to do to move forward. I was one of the last people to speak with her. And so the conversation ran through my head, what did I say what I mean, I literally made myself sick, thinking about going through every little detail of those days, and those hours and then everything before that, like our whole friendship,And then you know, you just replayed and replayed and replay it, I would wake up in the middle of the night, thinking about it and blaming myself in many ways, you know, realizing that, you know, there are things that, you know, maybe I shouldn't have said or that I should have said, maybe I should have gone and visited her moreguilty blame, you know, self blame kind of thing, you know, really rips you apart. And then I think the bigger issue with suicide is, you know, trying to understand why, you know, why?So my brain automatically goes analytical. And I'm like, Alright, let me get some books. I'm gonna get every book I can find on suicide. Some of them were devastating to read, and I'm gonna read and when I'm done reading, I understand exactly why she did it. And so I mean, I spent probably the first year you know, reading and going to websites and you know, trying to analyze all of it in my head and nothing was coming together right and nothing was coming together. And so it you know, it really made it very difficult and then on top of that, you know, With the stigma associated with it, you know, no one would ask me, well, how are you What's going on? You know, there was really nobody to talk about. And obviously, people have loss and death in their life. But you know, you add, like you said very well, that layer of, you know, and that stigma associated with suicide. And people are kind of like, you know, I'm not talking to you. Because they can't wrap their head around it.

Amanda Thomas is a Reiki practitioner, spiritual coach, and host of The Golden Gut podcast. In this episode she opens up about the emotional and physical healing she has undergone, as well as her realization of how intricately linked her physical symptoms and emotional state are. - Meditation offered a release from the emotions she had been carrying in her gut so she could begin to heal both emotionally and physically. -Through Reiki she was able to shift her life and find purpose. - Experienced of a type of exorcism, which helped her process much of her grief and baggage around her relationship with her deceased father. - Physical healing of her stomach disorder began with awareness of the brain-gut axis and how imbalances in the gut can impact mental and emotional balance, and vice versa. www.thegoldengut.com

Until a few weeks ago, I had never heard of the term, reiki. I noticed that I was being followed by a woman on Twitter, @GriefReiki. I began following her back and noticed that she and I would often post things that were very similar. She would retweet something and I would as well. As this continued to occur, I thought that maybe I should look into her a bit more and try to find out what 'reiki' is. First of all, I looked up the definition of Reiki online and found the following: 'a healing technique based on the principle that the therapist can channel energy into the patient by means of touch, to activate the natural healing processes of the patient's body and restore physical and emotional well-being.' Being a trained physician, I was somewhat skeptical after reading this, but went on to look at her website. At the top of the website are the words 'Recovery-Healing-Compassion." That sparked my interest. Compassionate healing on this long road of grief; that's what we all need. I certainly don't expect to ever really 'recover' from the death of Andy, but I do want to experience healing. Looking even further on the website, I found myself more and more drawn to this method as having possible benefits. I decided to reach out and see if she would like to be on the show. She graciously accepted and what follows is our great conversation. Interestingly, she only founded the company 5 short years ago. She is an engineer by training and worked in cybersecurity for many years. Honestly, this was not what I had expected. She said that she did not go looking for reiki at all - it found her. We also discuss the idea of opening up the conversation to talk about death, dying and grief. These are not subjects that should be considered taboo. Death is a part of life, and grief is due to having great love for a person. She certainly does not say that the Japanese healing method of reiki can completely solve one's grief or other physical problems. She instead says that reiki is a tool to be kept in your toolbox along with many others. Using these tools together can help people with healing and well-being, and hopefully make life a little less painful. Today on #itsthemiamiknightshow we’re discussing “It’s All Connected” Left behind to Grieve Suicide, Synchronicity and Reiki please welcome @griefreiki Sharon Ehlers. ___________________________________ After the suicides of a close friend and a former fiancé within a two-year period, she was confused about how many people either avoided her or didn’t want to talk about these events. In her grief, she tried to make sense of it all but it seemed like it was “never the right time” to bring it up with people. So she took a deep breath and tried to work through the grief on her own. She dragged herself into work and somehow made it through the days and weeks that followed. Her thought was there had to be a better way. ___________________________________ She is the founder of Grief Reiki®️ a multidimensional approach to grief and loss using emotional recovery, Reiki and other spiritual base tools. She’s also an Advance Recovery Specialist, Master Grief Coach, Death Midwife and Reiki Master Teacher. She’s the author of Grief Reiki®️-An integrates approach to the Emotional, Physical and Spiritual Components of Grief and Loss and is co-author of Grief Diaries: Surviving Loss by Suicide. Sharon Ehlers has a logical mind, one that made her skeptical of energy work and healing when it crossed her path in the aftermath of two devastating losses by suicide. Now, eight years later, she owns and operates Grief Reiki, a business that helps people cope with the energy of grief—an energy that affects the body, mind, and spirit. Today we're talking about what Reiki is and how it can help a grieving heart, how Sharon is bringing Reiki on the 2019 Bereavement Cruise, and what skeptics can do to open themselves up to alternative practices like Reiki.
