Here's the second part of my interview with marketing upheaval expert Rudy Fernandez. We talked about how he directs voice talent while in a session and the most important thing to consider when doing so. We also spoke about things like:  How Rudy self-admittedly tends to overdirect and how he navigates that with the voice talent he works with The importance of always keeping voice talent involved in the creative process The difference between character reads and announcer reads How to ensure that the right voice talent is selected for a brand The importance of brands having multiple touchpoints for their audiences How companies are still utilizing radio advertising to this day The work Rudy's company is doing with The University of Alabama College of Continuing Studies How audio can connect with audiences in ways other media cannot The use of earcons and how they serve as an audio logo of sorts What Rudy is working on during the Coronavirus shutdown (during which time we recorded this episode) What Rudy's daughter, a voice talent, is up to right now and the work she does in L.A. A little bit about what I've been up to during the shutdown (only because Rudy asked!)

His knowledge of and experience in the science of behavior change helps his clients communicate their deeper purpose, win more fans, and strengthen their brands. Rudy is currently working on two brand launches for clients in the utilities industry and is tackling a few projects that have been on the back burner. In the first part of our conversation, Rudy and I discussed his background in journalism and how he got into the advertising industry. We also spoke about: How Rudy started Radio Outhouse in 2001 Why Rudy chose not to phase out of radio writing and what that has allowed him to do throughout his career What exactly behavior change marketing is and how companies utilize it The work that Rudy's company does in addition to radio campaigns The company's name change from Radio Outhouse to Creative Outhouse Rudy's work producing mini podcasts for physicians to utilize with their patients Why Rudy started his podcast and what it has morphed into How Creative Outhouse helps clients take their consumers from learning about their product/service to becoming raving fans How copy is written for the ear as opposed to just being written in general How a junior copywriter at Podfest went from being incredibly shy to a highly skilled performer, podcaster, and writer The importance of having only one thought in a line in radio as well as reading out loud when writing audio You can find more information on Rudy on his company's website https://creativeouthouse.com/ (https://creativeouthouse.com) and can listen to his podcast at https://creativeouthouse.com/podcast/ (https://creativeouthouse.com/podcast).   “For me it was about the entertainment value; but with that comes the responsibility to tell it honestly, truthfully, and with energy. And when you can do all of those things, it’s something that people want to listen to.” Having the guts to make a complete transition isn’t easy, and Rudy Reyes, host of The Rudedog Show radio show, can tell you all about it, and much more. And I really mean much more, as Rudy has recorded several hundred episodes, interviewing a wide array of sports and entertainment celebrities, including Jerome Bettis, Nadia Comaneci, Michael Phelps and Sinbad too! “This is not something that I learned overnight. It’s taken me a long time, and many free hours and free time to really put the hammer to the nail in order to get me to where I am right now. It’s not easy, it’s time consuming, but it’s very rewarding.” Most of us do not realize the amount of time, energy, effort and real world education it takes to be in front of a camera or microphone, and how many things you need to have going through your brain along with what you are trying to say, all happening at once! What we hear and see is a polished finished product, and Rudy’s is very impressive, as you will see when you tune into his show! “You have to stay driven, stay focused, you have to have an endgame. If you don’t have an endgame, in other words, the end answers to everything you’re trying to accomplish, you’re wasting your time.” In this episode you will learn from Rudy what it takes to get a truly successful radio show / podcast up and running smoothly, how networking is essential in getting top guests, and we share a ton of laughs throughout, including the lifestyle change from the shiny lights of LA to the early snow in Cheyenne. This episode will fly by, you’ll love it, including the Hit Your Mark segment. Happy Listening! “I want to be able to inspire others who are struggling. I understand wanting to be noticed. To take a look at the hard work you’ve been doing and let others comprehend there is an end to this despite the “no’s.” “I’ve had a trillion “No’s” in my lifetime and received the generic email of denial but you have to realize you can persist. You must stay passionate, aggressive and never take NO for an answer.” Some Topics we talk about in this episode:   Introduction - 0:52 How Rudy got Started with his Radio Show - 3:40 The Responsibilities of a Reporter - 7:00 DJ Voice - 8:58 Richard Nixon Impression - 11:15 Life in Cheyenne - 12:20 Recruiting Radio Show Guests - 17:50 Podcast / Radio Show Rewards - 21:20 Favorite Guest Lenny Dykstra - 22:40 When guests bring up the unexpected- 25:54 Making an impact on every episode - 32:15 Funniest athlete ever spoken to- 35:37 Don’t get discouraged by the word NO - 41:25 Wrap-up and Takeaways -   How to get involved Be sure to connect with me on Social Media @MarkMoyerCoach and go to my website, www.markmoyer.com to get access to the tips and strategies that my coaching clients get directly.
