The Minnesota Timberwolves made the biggest move of the offseason by trading Patrick Beverley, Jarred Vanderbilt, Malik Beasley, Leandro Bolmaro, Walker Kessler, 3 first-round picks, and a pick swap to the Utah Jazz in exchange for Rudy Gobert. The move signified the start of a new wave in Minnesota; Big Ball. Now the idea of having two bigger front court players isn't as much of a novel concept in today's NBA as many claim it is. Cleveland runs out a lineup including Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen, Memphis deploys Steven Adams and Jaren Jackson Jr. in their front line together, Indiana had Myles Turner and Domantas Sabonis next to one another for years, and the reigning runner-up Boston Celtics had Al Horford playing next to Robert Williams III. Of course, none of those duos are a perfect 1:1 match for the Towns and Gobert pairing, but it does put away the notion that a two-big lineup is unheard of and cannot work. On today's episode of Bleav in Timberwolves, hosts Brendan Hedtke and Doug West are back from their busy summer of coaching high school hoops and are ready to dive into some Wolves talk. The pair breaks down their thoughts on the Gobert trade and how he seems to fit with the Timberwolves on both sides of the ball. Then, Brendan and Doug looks at the additional moves the Wolves have made, including the signing of Bryn Forbes, Austin Rivers, and Eric Paschall. Finally, they look at the projected win totals for the Timberwolves and discuss if they believe the line is a fair one, taking into consideration all of the factors that will be in play next season.

On today's show, Dane looks back on the Timberwolves offseason by taking listener questions on a handful of topics. Those topics include... — D'Angelo Russell and his perception in the national media versus his actual impact on the team — What does it mean to keep the “DLo salary slot”? — How the NBA's new television deal will impact the salary cap, and specifically how that cash infusion will impact the perception of the contracts of Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert, along with the impending contract extensions coming for Anthony Edwards and Jaden McDaniels — How much will the Wolves style of play evolve to looking something like the Jazz's style of play? — Which teams are the best playoff matchup for the Wolves? — What player traded away in the Gobert deal would fit best on this current Wolves roster? Mike Max talks with Timberwolves Assistant Coach Kevin Burleson about the opportunity to coach the Wolves summer league team, what he thought of the players, why the Gobert trade is good for young players and more.
On today's show, Dane is joined by Britt Robson from MinnPost to further discuss the Rudy Gobert addition after some time to reflect. Additional topics include the Austin Rivers signing, impressions of Wendell Moore Jr. and Josh Minott in Summer League and where Vegas has set the Wolves win total over/under for the upcoming season. Now with more time to let the Gobert deal sink in, Dane and Britt get in to more of the nitty-gritty of where Gobert's impact will be felt most. What is Gobert's expected impact on offense versus defense? The Rivers conversation is really more about what we expect the Wolves' rotation to be? Where does Rivers rank in the pecking order compared to Bryn Forbes and Jaylen Nowell specifically? What stood out, for better or worse, from Moore Jr. and Minott's Summer League performance. And where do those two fit in the Wolves pecking order at the moment? Vegas set the Wolves win total over/under at 49.5 (or 48.5 if you find the right book). What does that win total suggest about the perception of the Wolves in the Western Conference hierarchy? And how profitable is the idea of betting on the Wolves being a 50-win team this season? With a day off in summer league action, the Locked on Nets guys dive back into the prospect of a Kevin Durant trade this summer and discuss whether this will go all the way into the season. One major thing seemingly crushing the market for Durant right now is the blockbuster deal between Minnesota and Utah a couple of weeks ago that sent Rudy Gobert to the Timberwolves for a haul of draft picks and some players as well. How has this trade skewed the market for Kevin Durant and are there any teams out there willing or able to even meet the price that Gobert seemed to get on the market? It would seem this has caused some issues in the Nets' ability to trade Kevin Durant at all. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Is Rudy Gobert aging in a way that made it important for the Utah Jazz to trade him? A new stat called Bonus wins from the crew at True Hoop made this case. David Locke, radio voice of the Utah Jazz and Jazz NBA Insider, doesn't buy Gobert will have a big aging because of the way he takes care of his body. However, there are some metrics that bring in some questions to Gobert's future productivity. What is unquestioned is the bonus wins will be hard to achieve. Malik Beasley meet with the Utah Jazz media for the first time yesterday and gets the win with a quest to rebrand and reintroduce himself. Beasley's openness about his work to improve and his time with a therapist was ground breaking and wonderful. Walker Kessler also meet with the media and shared a very impressive thought process about how to play defense and impact the game. Also what to watch in summer league. Locked On Jazz Podcast

The trio is back! After a bit of time away, the guys are here to discuss a lot in the sports world, with a bit of MCU at the end. Kevin Durant has requested a trade out of Brooklyn, just only a couple years after him and Irving were thought to bring a championship to the city of Brooklyn. Also, Rudy Gobert has been traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves for a handful of picks, and players such as Patrick Beverley, Malik Beasley, Leandro Bolmaro, Walker Kessler, and Jarred Vanderbilt. After the NBA talk, the guys discuss what is happening in the College Football world, with superconferences potentially happening. USC and Ucla have already joined the Big Ten, who's next? On today's show, Dane is joined by Kyle Theige following the Timberwolves first Summer League game in Las Vegas to give first impressions of the Summer League Wolves and to further get into some of the nuance of the Rudy Gobert trade. Dane and Kyle start by discussing Josh Minott's mini-breakout performance in the Wolves first Summer League game in Vegas. Additionally getting into first impressions of Wendell Moore Jr. and where he might fit in the Wolves pecking order. From there, some focus on the strategy that went into the Gobert trade, specifically in regards to how the trade seems to have nullified a D'Angelo Russell problem (if there ever was one). Also, our first thoughts on how Chris Finch might handle rotating Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns. Will the goal be to have one of the two on the floor for all 48 minutes, or will Finch prioritize maximizing the time those two share the floor? Learn more about your ad choices. Windhorst talks about his experience of going viral after a clip of him speculating about a possible Utah Jazz trade on "First Take" went viral. What was his reaction when Gobert did get traded? Did he have a favorite meme? Windhorst also discusses his relationship with LeBron James, the one question he'd like to ask LeBron, the one question he'd like to ask Kevin Durant, whether he feels competitive with Adrian Wojnarowski and Shams Charania and much more. Following Windhorst, is the weekly "Traina Thoughts" segment with Sal Licata from WFAN radio and SNY TV in New York. On today's show we get into why the Timberwolves traded for Rudy Gobert. So much of the discourse in the days following the Gobert trade has been about why this was an overpay by the Wolves. But Wednesday's press conference introducing Gobert was the first time the Wolves's organization could comment on why they took this path that so many people seem to disagree with. On Wednesday, Tim Connelly and Chris Finch got the chance to speak on the record for the first time since the trade went down. And they detailed why they believe this makes sense for them. So on today's show we parse those answers in an effort to better understand the Wolves process. Why Connelly thought this was an expensive but reasonable price to pay and why Finch believes he can make the Gobert fit not only work but thrive in Minnesota. Learn more about your ad choices.
