In Celebration of Valentine's Day, we bring you tales of love and woe from one of our earliest episodes on the Tagalog Goddess of Love: Dian Masalanta aka Maria Makiling! EPISODE 2: THE GODDESS OF LOVE JUST CAN'T CATCH A BREAK | Maria Makiling/ Dian Masalanta (The Philippine Mountain Spirit & Goddess of Love)In this episode, we visit the misty peaks of Mount Makiling in Laguna (a province in South Luzon). There we encounter one of the staples of Philippine legends and folklore: the beautiful mountain nymph Maria Makiling. What do Maria Makiling and Dian Masalanta, the Tagalog Goddess of Love, have to do with each other? What is the juicy love story that led to her retreat and self-imposed seclusion in the mountains? And why should you never throw away your ginger?--- The Gods Must Be Crazy is a podcast on Philippine Mythology. Follow us over at @godsmustbecrazy.pod on Instagram for more good stuff, and possibly answer some burning question after this episode such as: What does Mt. Makiling look like? How do you cook tinola? Who is Gardo Verzosa and why are they still thirsting after him in this episode? We also welcome any suggestions on future topics or episodes. The intro and outro music is by Brian O'Reilly (@dendriform on Instagram).---Sources:https://ztevetevans.wordpress.com/tag/dian-masalanta/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maria_Makilinghttps://discover.hubpages.com/religion-philosophy/Maria-Makiling-and-the-Mountain-Goddesses-of-the-PhilippinesPart-1

In Celebration of World Citizen Action Week -- the 76th anniversary of when Garry Davis became a World Citizen -- we'll discuss Will Reed's future memoir, PINBALLED, the story of a free-thinking, nonconformist's lifelong fight for what always eluded him – a place to live and call home. A soldier during the bloodiest part of the Vietnam War in 1968, Will returned to Vietnam as an independent journalist – exchanging his combat boots for pen, paper, and a camera. Determined to expose the graft and human rights abuses he had witnessed, his investigation landed him in a rat-infested Vietnamese prison. “Being in a dank, fetid South Vietnamese jail, held without charges, all I could think of was getting out”, Will says in his memoir. “Hours after my release, outraged by my own government's treatment of me and its contempt for the Vietnamese people, I renounced my U.S. citizenship.” Facing further incarceration, he fled overland through Khmer Rouge-controlled Cambodia before sneaking into Thailand where he was jailed for illegal entry. “As I pleaded unsuccessfully for asylum, my unusual case became a cause célèbre – attracting international press attention and letters from supporters worldwide.” Finally, with the help of World Citizen Garry Davis, he was delivered a World passport in jail and was eventually granted asylum in France. Today, he is retired and living in Paris. Check out his INDIEGOGO CAMPAIGN! The call of complexity draws some weavers to more shafts, more structures, more hand-manipulated techniques. For Annie MacHale, refining the techniques and celebrating the artistry of very simple bands has been a lifelong fascination. Starting when she first picked up a shuttle and inkle loom in her teens, Annie has worked in wool, cotton, and hemp, creating practical cloth that's just a few inches wide. Any bandweaver has heard the question more times than they can count: “But what can you do with it?” Annie replies, “The uses are limited only by your imagination.” Her work has found an avid audience and market among guitarists and reenactors. The simplicity of an inkle band is its key to versatility as a strap or ribbon. “A woven band can be so many things to so many people, and in the world of weaving, it's very simple, but it's also very useful,” she says. “That's what attracted me to inkle weaving.” (She has a list of uses on her website for anyone who weaves more bands than they currently have a use for.) Although Annie describes her own approach to design as spontaneous, her first book contains an extensive directory of patterns and palettes for weaving inkle bands. In Celebration of Plain Weave can be read as a response to the idea that making plain bands isn't real weaving. “It seemed to me there was this general sense that plain weave wasn't all that interesting, that if you wanted to do something cool, you either had to learn some pickup technique or do card weaving. And I disagree with that,” she says. Plain weave holds plenty to keep her engaged and exploring, but Annie also plays with pick-up in her work. Her second book focuses on an unusual and complex Baltic technique using three warp colors. She also loves finding connections between her bandweaving and traditional weaving techniques from around the world, from banded Chimayo designs to Scandinavian backstrap bands to Andean pickup. Besides weaving miles of inkle bands on her own, Annie enjoys teaching inkle weaving, including basic skills, color and design, and several methods of pickup. “Have loom, will travel,” she says, referring to her upcoming classes across the country (listed on her website). In “Celebration of Discipline”, Richard Foster wrote, “God takes this ‘useless' discipline, this ‘wasted time', to make us His friend.” When we are quiet enough to hear God's affirming voice, it becomes much easier not to fall under the spell of the opinions of others. The primary purpose of solitude is simply to be more present to God. In solitude we discover that the one who made us and loves us most wants to be our friend. He is the prize. “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and trust shall be your strength. But you were unwilling.” Isaiah 30:15 Ethos is a life-giving community committed to keeping Jesus at its Center. I'm sorry but give me just 25 million dollars and I know that I could make an amazing reboot of this shit, I think the story is pretty great and timeless, and though I've never directed nothing, I am one hundred percent sure of it. Damn it Dominic, stop casting an imaginary film in yer head and get it together, you've got to vacuum soon. Ok moving on to (In Celebration 1975) Seriously why is Oliver Reed NOT in this. I don't normally complain about casting but……… Here we DO have the annoying artist from An Unmarried Woman, the principal of Rushmore academy in Rushmore, and three other actors from other Lindsey Anderson movies and that's it. Yes 70's film fans it's yet another way to loyal to the confinements of a play movie, I usually for some reason really love these, do I here? You'll just have to wait and find out. Mystique lure, 5 points! Next up is (Mackintosh and TJ 1975) and omg as I write this we just watched the movie Cold Turkey last night, and although I may like much of both of these, they and many other films that even in the 70's should of known better. There are both suspiciously 99.9 percent white people only movies. I know I know the “of the time” BS but we should notice and mention this poop BECAUSE it's noticeable, I mean IS that what you wanna say, I don't think so, I hope not. Here we have Roy Rogers in his last movie, and again, lots to dig here especially the fact that ROY has got skills, but also it's fun and mostly light, way too bad it's mad white. GARAK of DS9 is here as well. Onward we go to review (Shampoo 1975) and like In Celebration, here we have a director I really like, making a film that, wellllllllllllllll I'd rather not say. I will say that some actor greats are here doin great work, Julie, Christie, Goldie Hawn, Jack Warden, Lee Grant, and Carrie Fisher to name a few. I left out Warren Beatty not because his acting is bad here, its great ish (he always seems to play so clueless) but because I want to point out that his character alone is why this doesn't get a higher rating, from me, lets see what the others say. This is taking way to long, next up to bat is the sequel (Return to Witch Mountain 1978) and guess what…………… it sucks HA! Betty Davis and Christopher Lee don't suck, buuuuuuuuuut. Moving on (finally) to (Touched by Love 1980) gawd that is such a basic ass title I guess I can't say it enough, it's so very free box. Here we have Diane Lane in her 2nd film ever, also older Kunta from roots is here and great character actor with 150 credits Mary Wickes. This one took all of us awhile to figure out that it takes place in I think the late 50's. That was funny n fun journey, as we slowly gathered context clues. It might of even said the year, but this one is sadly only available on VHS and I started it like 45 seconds too late and and did not wanna get up off my butt to rewind it, til the end. Were silly. If you're interested in the history of the treatment of the developmentally disabled it's quite a worthwhile watch, although this place seems like the best ever for the 50's or 60's. Longest episode synopsis ever, apologies and thanks so much for listening.

We may find ourselves beginning our spiritual search with only questions, and not have anyone able to answer them. Or we may notice lots of religious or spiritual voices out there pretending to have the answers, and not believing them, not trusting them to be Sure Guides, Sources of Genuine Wisdom, Competent, Honorable Masters, Qualified Teachers. "Cut off have been My people for lack of knowledge." (Hosea 4:6)     We may have had some spiritual experiences such as seeing inner light, colors, stars, or a bright light, or in the silence hearing a kind of sound of the silence ringing in the distance, or perhaps we have memories of such experiences when we were children, maybe at a very young age. If we remember these experiences and ask some religious authority, usually they will look at us funny, tell us, "It was nothing", dismiss our question and tell us to move along. We may walk away feeling like a heretic or weirdo, and for sure are not getting our questions addressed at all in those places.    But instead of having our curiosity crushed by the Negative Powers That Be, telling us to go back to sleep, to forget, WHAT IF INSTEAD we  learn of someone who would be happy to answer our questions, is able to answer our questions, is conversant with Inner Experiences and Inner Space, and could introduce us to new dimensions, new possibilities, whole new worlds?   Today we explore: In Celebration of The Living Ones, Living Teachers, Living Masters, Living Mystics (Sacred books falling from the sky did not create the world religions and spiritual paths. Before there was “The Book” there was the author of “The Book.”); What the Living Master Shares with His or Her Students (with passages from the Gospel of Thomas, Sant Tukarama, and the Ramayana of Goswami Tulsi Das); also Inner Sound and Light Experiences Before Initiation; with satsang discourses from Swami Sant Sevi Ji Maharaj, Dr. Jagessar Das (commentary on the Bijak of Kabir), Santji (The Light of Ajaib), Sant Kirpal Singh (No New Faith, Mind That!) Against all odds on a gridiron in South Bend, Indiana, Daniel "Rudy" Ruettiger carved his name into history books as perhaps the most inspiring graduate of the University of Notre Dame. As fans cheered "RU-DY!, RU-DY!," (which is now considered to be the underdog chant of a lifetime) this "five-foot nothin', a hundred and nothin' … without a speck of athletic ability", sacked the quarterback in the last 27 seconds of the only play in the only game of his college football career. He is the first player in the school's history to be carried off the field on the shoulders of his teammates. As the son of an oil refinery worker and third of 14 children, Rudy rose from valleys of discouragement and despair to the pinnacles of success. It took years of fierce determination to overcome obstacles and criticisms, yet Rudy achieved his first dream - to attend Notre Dame and play football for the Fighting Irish. In 1993, TRISTAR Productions immortalized Rudy's life story with the blockbuster film, RUDY. Written and directed by Angelo Pizzo and David Anspaugh, the award-winning team who brought us HOOSIERS, the critically acclaimed RUDY received "Two Thumbs Up" from Siskel and Ebert, is considered one of the "Most Inspirational Movies of All Time" by Fandango, IMDB, Ranker and countless other websites. USA TODAY ranked RUDY as the #1 "Best Football Movie of All Time." The film continues to inspire millions worldwide. Today, Rudy Ruettiger is an Emmy Award Winning Motivational Keynote Speaker, author, and producer with over 25 years of Experience speaking to Corporations, Universities, Sports Teams, and Special Events. His Captivating personality and powerful message of "NEVER QUIT" and "YES I CAN" comes from his personal experiences of adversity and triumph and lasts a lifetime. Recently, Rudy offered his message in his orginal production, DREAM BIG: Rudy Ruettiger Live on Broadway, presented at the Samuel Friedman Theatre, along with his daughter Jessica Noel Ruettiger who made her Broadway debut performing her original song, "This Is My Dream" in the show's finale.
