The Minneapolis City Council is expected to cast a final vote on a bill that would ban assault weapons in the city. A man accused of spraying vinegar on U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar is due back in federal court Thursday morning where he's expected to enter a guilty plea. One of a series of bills to curb fraud in state programs stalled in a Minnesota House committee Tuesday. The bill aims to stop fraudsters from getting more state money from another agency. Without Republican support, it got bogged down in a tie vote. Border Czar Tom Homan says mistakes were made in Minneapolis earlier this year during ICE's enforcement on immigration. Homan says the public will continue to see mass deportations, especially in sanctuary cities.
Even financially independent people have lost fortunes to bad investments, high-fee funds, and speculation. Brad Barrett, Alan Donegan, and Katie Donegan lay bare their most expensive mistakes—from Alan's 90% dot-com crash loss to Katie's near-£1 million fee trap to Brad's decade-long real estate nightmare—proving that catastrophic errors don't prevent you from reaching FI if you learn the right lessons. Key Topics Discussed [00:00:00] Introduction: Why Share Mistakes? Brad introduces the episode concept, explaining why sharing financial and life mistakes can help others avoid similar pitfalls on their FI journey. [00:03:30] Alan's Dot-Com Bubble Disaster Alan shares how he lost 90% of his £7,000 life savings investing in high-tech managed growth stocks right before the dot-com crash, and how this scared him away from stock market investing for 13 years. [00:08:45] Brad's Early Investment Mistakes Brad discusses investing in WorldCom and other 'top picks' that went bankrupt, plus getting sold a mutual fund with horrible loads, highlighting that there's no secret investment knowledge reserved for the wealthy. [00:13:20] Katie's High-Fee Fund Trap Katie reveals how a financial advisor convinced her to invest in actively managed funds with 2.71% ongoing fees plus 3% entry charges, a mistake that would have cost her and Alan £1 million if they hadn't discovered index investing. [00:18:50] Brad's Real Estate Speculation Nightmare Brad shares his biggest mistake: speculating on golf course community properties with interest-only loans right before the 2008 crash, causing over a decade of stress and significant financial loss. [00:28:15] Alan's Career Mistakes: The Book Incident Alan reveals how he wrote a book called 'How Not to Run a Business' about his boss on the company laptop, got fired, and learned about speaking truth to power and the importance of FI for workplace freedom. [00:32:40] Katie's Confidence and Comparison Struggles Katie discusses how her fixed mindset and comparison with others held her back from pursuing opportunities like netball and football, and how building confidence is as important as building net worth. [00:42:30] The Power of Saying No and Setting Boundaries The trio discusses the difficulty of being direct and honest, the importance of saying no, and how people-pleasing can create more problems than it solves. [00:48:20] Business Mistakes: Email Lists and Sales Fear Alan shares his regret about never building an email list for his successful business and letting fear of rejection prevent him from scaling, emphasizing the importance of owning your platform. [00:54:10] Salary Negotiation and Final Thoughts Brad discusses not negotiating his salary when changing jobs, the hosts wrap up with reflections on learning from mistakes, and encourage listeners to share their own mistakes in the community. Notable Quotes Brad Barrett: "You can make mistakes and you can make catastrophic mistakes, and you can pick yourself back up and you can move on with your life. You're stronger and you're wiser." Alan Donegan: "Your success in life is directly related to how many mistakes you can make as quickly as possible and learn from them." Alan Donegan: "Spend as much time building your confidence as you do your net worth, because it is so powerful in everything you do going forwards." Katie Donegan: "To rinse the value out of the mistakes, it's a lot more valuable if we share them. I would love you to get the value out of my mistake because I've already paid the price." Brad Barrett: "There's no secret. There's virtually no genius. Don't get caught up in wild speculative behavior." Key Takeaways Invest in low-cost index funds like VTI instead of actively managed funds or individual stocks to avoid high fees and poor performance Build an email list from day one if you're starting a business—don't rely solely on social media platforms you don't control Always negotiate your salary when changing jobs or getting promoted Wor…

Meeting PurposeReview business lessons from a historical real estate crisis.Read Mistakes Were Made, Lessons Were Learned: This book analyzes the 1980s Trammell Crow real estate bust, offering universal lessons on conservative pro formas, cost control during booms, and hiring adaptable "switch-hitters."Lease over Buy for Flexibility: Leasing commercial space preserved John's liquidity and provided a 13-year option with a first right of refusal, proving superior to a purchase that would have drained cash and locked him into a falling market.Prioritize Long-Term Value over Short-Term Savings: Investing in quality upfront (e.g., concrete parking lots, new vehicles) prevents higher long-term maintenance costs.Cultivate Radical Candor: A culture of direct, idea-focused feedback is essential for innovation. Leaders must attack ideas, not people, and distinguish between valid concerns and personalizing criticism.John recommended Mistakes Were Made, Lessons Were Learned by Bow Hamrick, a book analyzing the 1980s Trammell Crow real estate bust.Context: Trammell Crow's decentralized joint-venture model was hit hard by the 1980s S&L crisis, especially in Texas and Oklahoma.Book's Origin: A managing partner's 1987 memo prompted 26 partners to reflect on mistakes, successes, and universal lessons.Key Lessons (from partner Barry Henry):Strategy:Pro forma conservatively (90% vs. 95% occupancy).Don't rely on inflation to bail out bad deals.Institute cost controls during good times.Avoid lenders out of pride; communicate early.Say "no" more often.Personnel:Terminate weak links quickly.Don't overhire during booms.Hire adaptable "switch-hitters" for flexibility.Build bench strength for critical roles.Overhead:Focus on "dollars," not "pennies."Avoid leasing space for anticipated growth.Projects:Prioritize functionality over aesthetics.Invest in quality upfront (e.g., concrete parking lots: $1/sq ft build cost → $4/sq ft maintenance savings).John's decision to lease his commercial space proved superior to a purchase.Benefits:Liquidity: Preserved cash for operations.Control: Secured a 13-year option with a first right of refusal.Flexibility: Avoided being locked into a falling market (Kelowna industrial rents dropped from ~$20/sq ft to $13–$14/sq ft).Discovery: Revealed a strata unit was inadequate long-term, informing future search criteria.Amer's reading of Radical Candor prompted a discussion on creating a high-accountability culture.Key Principle: Attack ideas, not people.Example: Larry Page (Google) welcomed direct criticism of his ideas, demonstrating detachment from ego.Challenge: Distinguish between valid concerns and personalizing criticism. A "safe space" should protect people, not bad ideas.Austin introduced Brian Johnson, an entrepreneur focused on extreme health optimization ("Project Blueprint").Background: Sold Braintree Venmo for $800M; now pursues radical health optimization, sharing all data publicly.Austin's Challenge: Austin asked John to research Johnson and share his opinion.

We're covering Romance Babies, Romance Kids, and Single Parents in Romance — but so sorry to the Secret Baby lovers out there, that one deserves its own episode (someday). There are moments when the weight of unconfessed sin feels crushing, draining our joy, clarity, and strength. In today's message, Pastor Ricky shows how Psalm 32 leads us out of that suffocating place and into the relief only God can give. He explains how honest confession restores our fellowship with God and steadies our lives with renewed peace and direction. This is a message for anyone longing to breathe again and experience joy on the other side of repentance.
We all know how deeply we try to avoid being exposed, blamed, or held accountable, but in today's message, Pastor Ricky shows how confession is not the step towards shame; it's a step toward freedom. Drawing from the honesty of Psalm 32, he helps us see how God meets real brokenness with real forgiveness—trading the heaviness of hiding for the joy of being made clean. This message invites us to drop the excuses and step into the life God is offering.

In 2020, the U.S. Department of Justice publicly acknowledged that it had made “mistakes” in its handling of Jeffrey Epstein's survivors, particularly in connection with the 2007–2008 non-prosecution agreement in Florida. Federal officials conceded that prosecutors failed to properly notify victims about the deal and misled them about the status of the case, violations that ran afoul of the Crime Victims' Rights Act. The admission followed years of litigation brought by survivors who argued they were deliberately kept in the dark while Epstein secured an extraordinary plea agreement that shielded him from federal prosecution at the time. The DOJ's acknowledgment came after a federal judge ruled that prosecutors had indeed violated victims' rights, forcing the department to publicly reckon with its conduct. While officials expressed regret and described the failures as institutional errors, the admission stopped short of disciplinary action against those involved or a broader accounting of how the deal was approved. For survivors and their advocates, the statement underscored a painful reality: that the justice system not only failed to stop Epstein earlier, but also compounded the harm by excluding victims from decisions that directly affected their safety and legal rights.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.com

A grand jury is a legal body composed of citizens who are convened to determine whether there is enough evidence to bring criminal charges against an individual or group of individuals. Here's a summary of what a grand jury is and what it does:Purpose:The primary purpose of a grand jury is to serve as a check on government power by ensuring that individuals are not unfairly or arbitrarily charged with crimes. It acts as a safeguard to protect citizens from baseless accusations.Composition:Grand juries typically consist of 16 to 23 members who are randomly selected from the community.Grand jurors are chosen to serve for a specific term, often several months, during which they hear multiple cases.Secret Proceedings:Grand jury proceedings are conducted in secret, and the identities of the jurors are kept confidential to encourage impartiality and protect them from potential intimidation.Investigation:Grand juries have the authority to investigate a wide range of criminal matters, including felonies and serious crimes. They can issue subpoenas to compel witnesses to testify and produce documents or other evidence relevant to their investigations.Evidence Review:Prosecutors present evidence, including witness testimonies and documents, to the grand jury.Grand jurors evaluate this evidence to determine if there is probable cause to believe that a crime has been committed and that a specific individual or individuals should be charged.Indictment or No-Bill:If a grand jury finds sufficient evidence, they issue an indictment, which is a formal accusation that initiates criminal proceedings against the accused. If the grand jury does not find sufficient evidence, they issue a "no-bill," and no charges are filed. No Trial:It's important to note that a grand jury does not determine guilt or innocence. Its role is limited to deciding whether there is enough evidence to warrant a trial.Prosecutorial Discretion:Prosecutors have significant influence over the grand jury process, as they decide which cases to present, what evidence to introduce, and what charges to seek.Legal System Variation:The use of grand juries varies by jurisdiction. Some jurisdictions rely heavily on grand juries for felony cases, while others use preliminary hearings or direct filing by prosecutors. In summary, a grand jury is a panel of citizens that convenes in secret to review evidence presented by prosecutors and determine whether there is enough evidence to proceed with criminal charges. Its role is to act as a safeguard against unfounded accusations and to ensure that the decision to prosecute is based on a reasonable belief that a crime has been committed.According to a new filing, Bryan Kohberger's team alleges that 24 violations took place during the grand jury process and due to those violations, the whole thing should be tossed. They talk about the lineup changes, no Yeboah, a certified banger from Dotson, Tani shows up to get a brace, some poor subs by Ramsay, Diaz giving up a goal, an own goal from Duggan, another goal from SKC, and an almost incredible ending from Sang Bin. Why do we double down on a decision even when all evidence points to it being the wrong choice? It's often thanks to the phenomenon known as cognitive dissonance and its companions: self-justification and memory rewriting. Social psychologist Carol Tavris explains what these words mean, how they play into decision-making, and why adults can't help but fall into this trap even as their kids get older. Carol Tavris - Mistakes Were Made But Not By Me The Psychology of Self-Justification with Carol Tavris In this episode, Aidan McCullen interviews Carol Tavris, co-author of 'Mistakes Were Made (But Not by Me),' to explore the intricacies of cognitive dissonance, self-justification, and memory. They investigate why humans find it difficult to admit mistakes, even in the presence of irrefutable evidence. Through numerous case studies and real-world examples, they discuss the implications of these psychological mechanisms in areas as varied as personal life, law enforcement, and political decision-making. The conversation tackles how these insights can apply to everyone from parents and judges to business leaders and law enforcement, emphasizing the significance of humility, critical thinking, and the human tendency to rewrite personal histories to fit current beliefs. 00:00 Introduction to Self-Justification 01:14 Welcoming the Author: Carol Tavris 02:17 The Premise of the Book 03:06 Understanding Cognitive Dissonance 08:44 Memory and Self-Justification 14:43 Confabulations and False Memories 23:02 The Pyramid of Choice 32:42 Law Enforcement and Wrongful Convictions 37:58 The Importance of Correcting Interrogation Methods 38:33 The Impact of Miscarriages of Justice 38:55 Examples of Recognizing Mistakes 39:52 The 1980s and 90s Hysteria Over Child Abuse 40:21 The McMartin Daycare Scandal 41:06 Flawed Child Interrogation Techniques 42:58 A Case of Misunderstanding: Daddy's Pee Pee 44:53 The Emotional Toll of False Convictions 47:39 The Pyramid of Entrapment and Justification 48:48 The Influence of Bias in Decision Making 50:32 The Role of Pharmaceutical Companies in Medicine 52:06 Moral Choices and Life Decisions 54:55 Understanding and Living with Cognitive Dissonance 01:03:17 The Power of Admitting Mistakes 01:06:58 The Allure of Victim Narratives 01:08:40 Alien Abductions and Hypnagogic States 01:14:17 The Importance of Understanding Human Frailties Find Carol here: That Sarah Silverman interview: Carol's books: psychology, cognitive dissonance, self-justification, memory, mistakes, humility, ethics, law enforcement, interrogation, wrongful convictions, trauma, alien abductions, confirmation bias, leadership, decision making, self-concept, Carol Tavris (author), Aidan McCullen (host), Elliot Aronson (co-author), Leon Festinger (researcher on cognitive dissonance), James Thurber (author of The Wonderful O), Richard Feynman (scientist and quote source), Mary Carr (memoirist), Joseph Allen (wrongfully convicted), Ronald Reagan (Bitburg cemetery incident), Shimon Peres (comment on Reagan's mistake), Sarah Silverman (Louis C.K. controversy), Louis C.K.
