The Ghosts of Harrenhal: A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast (ASOIAF)
Aeron “Damphair” Greyjoy, learns of his eldest brother Balon's death and their brother Euron's claiming the Sea Stone Chair. He is not happy with that outcome and calls for a kingsmoot to decide the next king. Simon and Mackelly consider the options.Chapter Review:Aeron Greyjoy is drowning men in the sea (to bring them back with the kiss of life) when news arrives that his brother King Balon is dead. Aeron doesn't break down or anything, but he recalls Balon with awe and reverence for his returning the Iron Islands to its traditional god (the Drowned God) and practices (they really don't sow).At Hammerhorn (Lord Goodbrother's seat) Aeron learns further that his eldest remaining brother Euron has returned to Pike. He was banished for life by Balon, but has conveniently arrived back the day after the king's death. Goodbrother wants to know if Euron's claim should be supported, but the prophet needs time to pray on this one.Aeron had spoken with Balon recently, and knows that Balon thought Asha should succeed him - and she too has claimed the throne. But Aeron is skeptical that the Iron Islanders would accept a queen. Theon is believed dead and Aeron despises Euron - he won't have someone so unrighteous on the throne. He doesn't want the honor for himself, so that leaves only Victarion, Aeron's older, but Euron's younger, brother. While praying, he's struck by inspiration: in the old days kings were chosen not by hereditary. He calls for a kingsmoot on Nagga's Hill on Old Wyk. All claimants and captains should go there to choose their next ruler.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Aeron “Damphair” Greyjoy - Youngest brother of King Balon Greyjoy. Priest of the Drowned God.Balon Greyjoy - King of the Iron Islands. Died falling from a bridge at Pike.Euron “Crow's Eye” Greyjoy - Younger brother of Balon, elder brother to Aeron. Was banished by Balon, but now returned to Pike.Victarion Greyjoy - Next younger brother of Balon. Currently holding Moat Cailin for the Iron Islands. Asha Greyjoy - Daughter of Balon. Fierce fighter and reaver. Well respected.Theon Greyjoy - Younger brother to Asha. Grew up in Winterfell as ward of the Starks. Betrayed them. Was last seen losing Winterfell to Ramsay Bolton.Kingsmoot - Ancient rite, whereby king's of the Iron Islands were chosen from the worthy. The Ghosts of Harrenhal: A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast (ASOIAF)
The sea has come to Winterfell. Bran is forced to cede the seat of House Stark to Theon Greyjoy. Mikken the smith is killed and Hodor beaten. Meanwhile, Theon assures all that they'll be treated kindly as long as they follow orders. Simon and Mackelly smell something fishy. Chapter Review: Bran has an extended wolf-dream in which Summer tries to escape the walled godswood. The wolf has no inclination to climb, but his Bran-half leads him up a tree. Summer slips and falls. On impact, Bran awakens to a pain in his shoulder. He hopes Summer is OK. A stranger enters Bran's room followed by Theon Greyjoy. Theon tells Bran to come down and inform the citizens of their new ruler. Bran, Rickon, Maester Luwin, the Walders, and the Reeds, are brought to the main hall. The 30 or so Iron Islanders have gathered the other citizens of Winterfell. Hayhead has a nasty wound, Alebelly has been killed, and Palla (who played with Bran and the Walders in the godswood) has been raped. Theon demands obedience, but Mikken the smith is having none of it. He spits vitriol at Theon until a spear is thrust through his neck and he drowns on his own blood. Fulfilling more of Jojen Reed's prophetic dream. Hodor wails in dismay at Mikken's death and is beaten by Theon's men. All the while Theon claims that the people will find him a fair and gentle lord. The prisoner Reek and Osha both pledge fealty to Theon and are given their freedom. Bran sees the second of these as quite the betrayal, although less than Theon's. Characters/Places/Names/Events: Brandon (Bran) Stark - Middle son of Eddard (Ned) and Catelyn (Cat) Stark. He was pushed from a tower by Jamie Lannister and lost the use of his legs. Maester Luwin - Maester in the service of house Stark at Winterfell. Rickon Stark - Youngest son of Ned and Cat Stark. Hodor - Huge but simple man who carries Bran Stark wherever he wishes to go. Big Walder Frey - Grandson of Lord Walder Frey. Ward of Winterfell. Little Walder Frey - Grandson of Lord Walder Frey. Ward of Winterfell. Osha - Wildling captured by the Starks now held as servant/prisoner in Winterfell. Theon Greyjoy - Heir to the Iron Islands. Former ward of Winterfell. Mikken - Smith of Winterfell. Ser Rodrik Cassel - Master-at-arms and castellan of Winterfell. Reek - Accomplice to Bolton's bastard son Ramsay. Captured by Rodrik Cassel and held at Winterfell. Meera Reed - 16 y/o daughter of Howland Reed. Jojen Reed - 13 y/o son of Howland Reed. Support the podcast. Buy a bit of merch from our store. Hello, lords and ladies of the realm! After dueling with the podcasting white walker overlords and the lengthiest hiatus yet, The Cast Beyond the Wall has returned with a full preview of the final season of Game of Thrones. Caleb is re-joined by co-hosts Austin Lucari and Daniel Stull to look back at last year's greatest hits before they make their predictions on the twists, backstabbings, and deaths ahead in the final six episodes of Game of Thrones. The podcast kicks off with a brief look back at the highs and lows of season 7 before the cast breaks down the position of each main character and the role they'll play in the final storylines. Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen have taken their forces north to Winterfell to prepare for the Night King's armies who are marching south after the attack on Eastwatch. South in King's Landing, Cersei has conspired with Euron Greyjoy to break her oath and betray Jon and Daenerys by retaking Westeros while her adversaries are fighting the army of the dead. After discovering this plot, Jaime left Cersei to join the forces fighting in the north. With her enemies vulnerable, will her plan to retake Westeros prove successful or threatening to the heroes waging war with the wights? One potential threat to her plan is Theon Greyjoy's mission to rescue his sister, Yara, from the cartoonish clutches or Euron and his newly recruited Golden Company. With Theon's redemption all but complete, can his small team of Iron Islanders do enough to sabotage Cersei's scheme? All of these questions and more will be discussed in this final season preview. To close out the conversation, The Cast Beyond the Wall reveals the plans to bring back the fan favorite Game of Thrones Fantasy League. Once again, Caleb, Austin, and Daniel will play in this year's year's special Fantasy League put on by The Verge. Start placing your bets now, because these stakes and results are coming in hot! The final season of Game of Thrones is bittersweet and The Cast Beyond the Wall will be there with you each and every step of the way. When the dust settles, all debts will be paid and the chilling winter winds will blow over the graves of our favorite fallen characters. Almost all the major players converge on the dragon pit to negotiate an armistice. The hound opens up the wight's crate, who is shy at first, then lunges for Cersei's face. Euron pretends to bow out, and Cersei says she'll agree to help defeat the Night King if Jon promises to keep the North out of the eventual war for the Iron Throne. Jon cannot tell a lie and says he's already bent the knee to Daenerys. Cersei says fuck you then and storms off. Tyrion risks his life by visiting Cersei on his own, and sensing she is pregnant, believes this will compel her to save the realm for her child's future. They return the the Dragon Pit and she seems to agree to the armistice. But she soon tells Jaime that was bullshit. Jamie walks out on her and rides North on his own to join the good guys. Theon manages to rally some fickle Iron Islanders into mounting a rescue of Yara. At Winterfell Sansa and Arya reveal all the brewing tension between them was part of a trap for Littlefinger. The trap is sprung, Sansa throws all his bullshit back in his face and Arya slices his throat with his Valyrian steel dagger. He dies grovelling in front of all the gathered lords and knights. Sam arrives at Winterfell, compares notes with Bran and they realize Jon Snow is actually Aegon Targaryen, the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. This plays out in a montage of Jon and Dany getting it on. At Eastwatch the Night King breaches the wall with super dragon-wight breath, allowing the Army of the Dead to march south.
Charlie and Clem discuss The Hound's return and where he could be headed, The Blackfish vs. Jaime standoff, Maergery's end game, Jon, Sansa, and Davos recruiting up North, the Iron Islanders doing what they do best, and if Arya is going to survive.
Hold the phone, you can get warts on your Hodor?! Other huge revelations include, Jorah in new depths of the “friend-zone,” The Iron Islanders ain’t so smart and Forest Rats are the cause of all of life’s problems. This was a crazy GD episode of Game of Thrones, but we’re here to help.
Charged with preparing for the invasion of the Iron Islanders in the wake of the destruction of Lannisport's fleet our heroes find themselves in trouble in Maidenpool. Can they survive and manage to complete the mission King Robert has tasked them with?
