Sam and the men vying for Lord Commander of the Night's Watch attend an audience with King Stannis. Stannis wants a Lord Commander chosen tonight. Sam hatches a plan to consolidate the votes between the leading contenders. Both men agree a new candidate might suffice. Sam knows just the guy. Simon and Mackelly pick up what he's putting down.Chapter Review:Samwell Tarly assists Maester Aemon to a summons by King Stannis Baratheon. They are accompanied by the current vote-getters for Lord Commander of the Night's Watch. King Stannis has had enough of waiting for the brothers to agree on a leader. He wants this wrapped up today. When Janos Slynt suggests King Stannis offer guidance to the brothers, Stannis says anybody but Janos should suffice.King Stannis has other needs from the Night's Watch, and the Lord Commander should have a say in the matter. He wants the Gift and the abandoned castles. The brothers don't take this news well. Stannis says he needs to rebuild the castles to garrison a force to stop the Others' attack. Before leaving, Maester Aemon asks to “see” Lightbringer. Sam describes the beautifully glowing sword to the blind maester. Afterward, Aemon finds it odd the sword gave off no heat. Later, Sam hatches a plan to stop Slynt from being voted Lord Commander. He asks Cotter Pyke to back Ser Deny Mallister. Pyke has no interest. Sam asks Ser Denys to back Pyke. Again, no interest. Sam suggests a different candidate. To Ser Denys he touts the mystery brother as well-educated, from old blood, castle trained, and highly trusted. To Pyke he describes the man as a good fighter but a bastard. Sam and Gilly have made to Castle Black. Gilly has taken on a second baby to feed. Sam has a crafty idea to ensure Gilly and son are cared for. Janos Slynt is making waves in the vote for Lord Commander. Mackelly and Simon consider voter fraud to keep Slynt out of the top spot.Chapter Review:Samwell Tarly, Gilly, and Gilly's baby have finally made it to Castle Black. Gilly has begun feeding Mance and Dalla's newborn son. Dalla's sister Val has heard that Melasandre plans to burn Mance and asks that he be allowed to see his son first. Jon Snow says he'll ask.Later, Jon asks Sam about his feelings for Gilly. Sam says he knows there's no future for them but tells Jon of a plan to send Gilly and the baby to Sam's mother at Horn Hill. Sam will lie and say that the boy is his. Jon thinks it could work, but it depends on the type of man the boy grows up to be. It is killing Sam to keep a secret from Jon. Sam knows that Bran is alive but swore multiple times not to reveal it, and he holds true to his word. That night the men vote on a new Lord Commander. Nobody is close to the two-thirds vote necessary to win. Denys Mallister and Cotter Pyke are the front-runners but Janos Slynt continues to climb in the voting. The Ghosts of Harrenhal: A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast (ASOIAF)
Jon gets a reprieve from the ice cell and noose that Thorne and Slynt had promised. Hooray! It's so he can go on a suicide mission to assassinate Mance Rayder. Boo! But at the last second redemption comes from an unlikely source. Simon and Mackelly consider the new power structures at the Wall.Chapter Review:Jon is lowered down the north face of the Wall in a cage. It beats the tiny ice cell in which he'd been held for the last 4 days. Thorne and Slynt's plan to hang him had been foiled by Maester Aemon. But they've found a sure-fire alternative. He's to go parlay with Mance Rayder, murder the King Beyond the Wall in the middle of his army, and then make it back alone to Castle Black - this will prove his loyalty.Tormund guides him through angry faces - none are pleased to see the turncoat back in black. Mance's woman Dalla is about to give birth. Mance himself is relatively sanguine about Jon's return. He never trusted Jon enough to tell him that they had found the fabled Horn of Winter in the Frostfangs. Mance says that the Night's Watch will let the wildlings pass through the Wall or the horn will be blown in three days, and they'll pass through the rubble instead.Jon concedes that the Night's Watch might consider this, if Mance and his people bend the knee. But Mance won't promise that. Seeing an impasse, Jon looks for ways to carry out the assassination. But before anything happens, an army attack the wildlings. It's Stannis coming west from Eastwatch, and he routes Mance's forces with ease. During the chaos, Dalla goes into labor. Characters/Places/Names/Events:Jon Snow - Bastard son of Ned Stark. Member of the Night's Watch.Maester Aemon - Elderly, blind maester of the Night's Watch.Ser Alliser Thorne - Senior member of the Night's Watch. Recently returned from King's Landing.Janos Slynt - New recruit to the Night's Watch. Former commander of the Gold Cloaks in King's Landing.Mance Rayder - King Beyond the Wall. Former brother of the Night's WatchDalla - Mance's pregnant partner.Thormund Giantsbane - Wildling leader.Stannis Baratheon - Brother of dead King Robert Baratheon, claims the Iron Throne because Cersei's children are not Robert's.We've got four new sustainer tiers on our Buy Me a Coffee site. Tune in to the latest episode of We Don't Wanna Podcast as hosts Scott and Zach take on the challenge of recapping Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 5, "Eastwatch." With an underwhelming outlook on the episode, the hosts spare no punches in their analysis. From a hilarious scene featuring Ser Davos and Gendry on the beach that brought a good laugh, to the incredulous idea of capturing a wight to convince Cersei, Zach and Scott dissect the highs and lows of the episode. Their critical eye falls on the noticeable reliance on plot armor, which has become more prominent this season. While acknowledging the decent interaction between Jamie and Tyrion and admiring Cersei's calculated manipulation, the hosts express their disappointment in the way the characters' paths converge at Eastwatch. What should have been a thrilling moment falls flat due to its disjointed execution. Don't miss this candid breakdown of "Eastwatch" as Scott and Zach unravel the intricacies of the episode. Follow @WeDontWannaPod on social media for more insights, and be sure to tune in for the next episode! We're back with another episode of Talkin' Thrones and things are heating up fast! This episode, titled "Eastwatch" really gets the ball rolling with getting the audiences prepared for the final war to come, with all the characters taking recent developments into consideration as the war with the dead approaches. Daenerys attempts to give fair judgement to the soldiers she spared after the loot train attack, but executes the Tarlys when they defy her. Jaime makes it back to King's Landing to warn Cersei, only to discover that she is steadfast in her resistance. But timing is everything, with the Night King getting closer and closer to the Wall, Jon & Tyrion come up with probably the most ludicrous plan in the history of the entire show's run: to somehow go north of the wall and bring an undead soldier south to prove to Cersei the existance of the army of the dead and get her to temporarily ally with them so they can fight the forces of the dead together. After Tyrion is able to successfully get a message to his siblings about the temporary cease fire and Davos retrieves Gendry from Flea Bottom, Jon heads to Eastwatch with his band of merry men to carry out this fool's errand, with the members of his team including a recently healed Jorah, Gendry, Tormund Giantsbane, as well as the Hound, Beric Dondarrion & Thoros of Myr. Elsewhere, Sam decides to leave the Citadel after realizing they're going to be no help, but not before Gilly discovers a crucial piece of information related to Jon's heritage. Sansa is also warned by Arya not to trust anyone that speaks out against Jon, only for her to fall for one of Littlefinger's schemes. Hello, lords and ladies of the realm! After dueling with the podcasting white walker overlords and the lengthiest hiatus yet, The Cast Beyond the Wall has returned with a full preview of the final season of Game of Thrones. Caleb is re-joined by co-hosts Austin Lucari and Daniel Stull to look back at last year's greatest hits before they make their predictions on the twists, backstabbings, and deaths ahead in the final six episodes of Game of Thrones. The podcast kicks off with a brief look back at the highs and lows of season 7 before the cast breaks down the position of each main character and the role they'll play in the final storylines. Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen have taken their forces north to Winterfell to prepare for the Night King's armies who are marching south after the attack on Eastwatch. South in King's Landing, Cersei has conspired with Euron Greyjoy to break her oath and betray Jon and Daenerys by retaking Westeros while her adversaries are fighting the army of the dead. After discovering this plot, Jaime left Cersei to join the forces fighting in the north. With her enemies vulnerable, will her plan to retake Westeros prove successful or threatening to the heroes waging war with the wights? One potential threat to her plan is Theon Greyjoy's mission to rescue his sister, Yara, from the cartoonish clutches or Euron and his newly recruited Golden Company. With Theon's redemption all but complete, can his small team of Iron Islanders do enough to sabotage Cersei's scheme? All of these questions and more will be discussed in this final season preview. To close out the conversation, The Cast Beyond the Wall reveals the plans to bring back the fan favorite Game of Thrones Fantasy League. Once again, Caleb, Austin, and Daniel will play in this year's year's special Fantasy League put on by The Verge. Start placing your bets now, because these stakes and results are coming in hot! The final season of Game of Thrones is bittersweet and The Cast Beyond the Wall will be there with you each and every step of the way. When the dust settles, all debts will be paid and the chilling winter winds will blow over the graves of our favorite fallen characters. Dragonflame and charging Dothraki hordes are a tough act to follow, but Episode 5, “Eastwatch,” filled the bill nicely. Or at least that's the conclusion we came to on this week's episode of The Night's Cast! Join Vanessa, Bex, Samantha and special guests Michael and Matt (also known as Watchers' very own JoeMagician) of Maester Monthly as we talk Episode 5 and somehow find a way to fit in more than one reference to Limp Bizkit.

Abe and Roberto are back to talk “Game of Thrones” and discuss your thoughts on the latest episode, “Eastwatch!” Jamie has a surprise meeting and receives surprising news. Bran sends out ravens. Arya confronts Sansa....
Per usual, we got pretty fired up about Game of Thrones this week. We discuss the plan of the "Magnificent 7", Jamie and Bronn, Sam and his mischief, Arya/Littlefinger and whether or not Dickon Tarly is an idiot.
In "Eastwatch," Jon assembles his Magnificent Seven Dream Team and bonds with Drogon, Tyrion hatches a crazy-ass plan, Gendry returns, Jaime suffers wayward travels and sibling troubles, Gilly makes a stunning discovery in Oldtown, Sam's frustrations with the maesters mirror real-world comparisons, and Sansa and Arya have a disconcerting spat. There's a ton of table-setting here, but Andrew and Manu are ready to tackle it. Manu's "Eastwatch" review at DRaysBay Emmett Booth's "cowboys" article at Deadspin iTunes link Google Play link

After last week's epic episode, we now come to what is easily the most divisive "Game Of Thrones" episode yet for Season 7 as Will Mavity and I review it with skepticism, excitement and bewilderment in some cases. The episode is titled "Eastwatch" and was written by Dave Hill while being directed by the director of last week's episode, Matt Shackman. Remember that Next Best Series is a podcast exclusive and is a part of Next Best Picture. With your feedback and support, we will look into expanding this area of the site come next year.
