Among tax lawyers, the most invasive type of random audit carried out by the I.R.S. is known, only partly jokingly, as “an autopsy without the benefit of death.” The odds of being selected for that audit in any given year are tiny — out of nearly 153 million individual returns filed for 2017, for example, the I.R.S. targeted about 5,000, or roughly one out of 30,600. One of the few who received a bureaucratic letter with the news that his 2017 return would be under intensive scrutiny was James B. Comey, who had been fired as FBI director that year by President Donald J. Trump. Furious over what he saw as Mr. Comey's lack of loyalty and his pursuit of the Russia investigation, Mr. Trump had continued to rail against him even after his dismissal, accusing him of treason, calling for his prosecution and publicly complaining about the money Mr. Comey received a book after his dismissal. What You Need to Know about James B. Comey. Comey complains in a recent article that there are some FBI agents who don't understand why everyone involved with the January 6th events should be held accountable — Opinion: James Comey: Every Jan. 6 case matters. As he writes in this article, his goal is “…about sending a message — a shock wave of deterrence…” We are in a serious moment in history when a senior level justice department official can go to The Washington Post and write an article like this. This shock wave is being used against the wrong group of people. It's targeting We the People! Noah Dingley, producer of #ProAmericaReport, host of Across The County & Noah's Ark, explains how this war in Ukraine is affecting him. Just a couple of weeks ago we were focusing on Covid and how high the numbers were and now that there's a war between Russia and Ukraine covid has just magically gone away. It seems that the news media always has to have something going on that makes people hysterical. It's exhausting! Dr. Marina Hofman, author, teacher, biblical scholar, & frequent media guest, gives another update on the Freedom Convoy 2022. Marina explains that the news media has just moved on and has stopped reporting on the Freedom Convoy in Canada but this is still a very real battle for Canadians. What's incredible is the amount of Canadians standing up for their freedom! What You Need to Do is read this piece from the Western Journal — Exclusive from Gen. Flynn: Here's How We Can End the Ukraine Crisis Today. We need to learn from experts. Gen. Mike Flynn is an expert we can learn from! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Former FBI Director James Comey joins The Post to discuss his latest book, “Saving Justice” and his perspective on the political and legal ramifications of a post-Trump Washington.
Think of all that came out of the FBI’s actions to undergird the reliability of the Dirty Dossier, assembled and promoted by British spy Christopher Steele -- the FISA applications; the eavesdropping on the Trump campaign; the targeting of top and lower level Trump campaign helpers; the $25 million Special Counsel investigation, and worst of all, the political, financial, and emotional drag on the first term of President Trump’s effort to make America great again. Ep. 3 — A Home Invasion Trauma Leads to a Law Enforcement Career / James Comey, Former Director, Federal Bureau of Investigation In this episode, James Comey describes how, as a high school senior, he and his brother were held at gunpoint in their New Jersey home by a serial rapist and robber and how that confrontation with death ultimately influenced his decision to go into law enforcement. Comey talks about how attending a bail hearing in a Mafia case as a young law clerk in New York convinced him to become a federal prosecutor and help bring down some of the most powerful Mafia families in Gotham. He then shares stories of how his experience in dealing with the Mafia helped him understand and deal with President Donald Trump. Comey has testified under oath that Trump first sought to secure his blind loyalty, and when Comey refused, fired him as the FBI Director in an attempt to shut down the Bureau’s investigation into the Russian interference in the 2016 Democratic election. Comey also shares his views on the Special Counsel’s final report on the Russian interference. He discusses his handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation, which many attribute to Clinton’s loss in the 2016 Presidential race. And he describes how he learned the greatest leadership in life from a personal tragedy. Transcript Download the PDF Chitra: Hello and welcome to When It Mattered. I'm your host Chitra Ragavan. I'm also the founder and CEO of Goodstory Consulting, an advisory firm helping technology startups find their narrative. On this weekly podcast we invite leaders from around the world to share one personal story that changed the course of their life and work, and how they lead and deal with adversity. Through these stories, we take you behind the scenes to get an inside perspective of some of the most eventful moments of our time. Chitra: On this episode, we will be talking to James B. Comey. He has spent four decades in law as a federal prosecutor, a business lawyer, and working closely with three US Presidents. We served as Deputy Attorney General under President George W. Bush. In September 2013, President Barack Obama appointed Comey as the seventh director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. In that role, Comey came under fire for his handling of the bureau's investigation into the Hillary Clinton email controversy in the lead-up to the 2016 US elections. Comey's 10 year term was cut short in May 2017 when President Donald Trump summarily fired him as the FBI Director. Statements from the president and the White House indicated that the firing was intended to ease the pressure over the FBI's investigation of the Russian interference in the 2016 US elections. Comey currently teaches ethical leadership at William & Mary College and is the author of the book Higher Loyalty. Jim, welcome to the podcast. James: It's great to be with you, Chitra. Chitra: Tell us a little bit about your background and how you got into law and law enforcement. James: Well, I was a science focused kid in high school and thought that I would become a doctor. Looking back through the lens of now as an old person, I think an event that happened to me as a senior in high school steered me in a way that even I couldn't see at the time. A serial rapist and robber kicked in my parent's front door one night at their home in Northern New Jersey and ended up in a terrifying evening holding me and my brother captive. We escaped, he caught us again, and at least twice during that night I thought he was going to kill us, and that had an enormous effect on me. It helped give me some perspective on life that was useful, as painful as it was, and I think again, without me even knowing, it steered me in a way towards law enforcement and thinking about what victims experienced. I still thought I was going to be a doctor, and then figured out that wasn't for me late in my college career about three years later.
James B. Comey, the former F.B.I. director, had an elaborate plan to make public his memos documenting his interactions with President Trump, in the hopes of prompting the appointment of a special counsel. In an interview, he explains his decision to take matters into his own hands. Guest: Mr. Comey. For more information on today’s episode, visit nytimes.com/thedaily.
The timing of FBI Director James B. Comey’s termination raises a lot of questions. The Post's national security reporter Matt Zapotosky discusses what we know now and what more there is to learn as this critical story unfolds.
Our reporter describes being inside the room as James B. Comey, the director of the F.B.I., gave his first public remarks about his handling of Hillary Clinton’s emails, saying he was “mildly nauseous” over the idea that he might have tipped the presidential election.
