From October 9, 2021: The majority staff of the Senate Judiciary Committee has issued an interim report, entitled “Subverting Justice: How the Former President and His Allies Pressured DOJ to Overturn the 2020 Election.” A lot of it covers ground we knew about previously, but it contains a raft of new details about the president's pressure on the Justice Department to support his election fraud claims, the resignation of a U.S. attorney in Georgia, and the bizarre attempt to install as acting attorney general a Justice Department official who might actually support the president's ambitions. To go over it all, Benjamin Wittes sat down with Lawfare senior editors Alan Rozenshtein and Quinta Jurecic, and Lawfare associate editor Bryce Klehm, who has been reading all of the depositions in the matter. They talked about what the committee found, what aspects of it are new and what we might do about this dramatic turn of events. To receive ad-free podcasts, become a Lawfare Material Supporter at www.patreon.com/lawfare. Global powers are increasingly shaping markets and taking equity positions in strategic industries. But recently, Washington's role in the economy has expanded, with stakes in companies like Intel, different from its traditionally hands-off approach. David Lawlor spent 35 years at Kellogg and Kellanova, eventually retiring as President of Kellanova Europe. In this conversation with Ryan, he reflects on the moves that shaped him most: leaving Ireland, building the company's Middle Eastern business, leading in Russia, and stepping into roles that looked risky from the outside but became defining chapters in his career. He talks about fear as the starting line of growth, why the right agenda matters more than the longest to-do list, and how leaders build belief by creating cultures where people know they can make a difference. Now in retirement, David is thinking about identity, relevance, and what it means to keep growing when the operating rhythm suddenly goes quiet

West Side Market updates Cleveland's historic, 114-year-old West Side Market has been undergoing major change in recent years. First, it went through structural change, moving from longtime city management to nonprofit management back in 2024, something that residents and vendors had been calling for for years to improve conditions at the market. Now it's going through a major revitalization, as once the nonprofit team called the Cleveland Public Market Corporation began, it launched a years-long, $70 million transformation project funded in part by the city of Cleveland and City Council, as well as philanthropy and other government sources. But there's still some millions left to raise to complete the vision, and many months left to go until residents see completion of the project. In the meantime, there will be a lot of construction to wade through as you get your groceries and support local vendors. We'll discuss these updates on Tuesday's "Sound of Ideas" and learn what you can expect when you visit the market. Guests: - Rosemary Mudry, Executive Director, Cleveland Public Market Corporation - Don Whitaker, Owner, DW Whitaker Meats & Former President, United West Side Market Tenants Association - Jessy Harb, Co-owner of Harb's Produce What to know about hantavirus More than a dozen American cruise passengers are currently under a 42-day quarantine in Nebraska in a specialized medical facility after spending weeks aboard a ship hit with a deadly hantavirus outbreak that infected at least 11 people, including three who died. Hantavirus is a pathogen that some rodents carry that can sometimes infect humans. The passengers under quarantine are asymptomatic. This incident is harkening memories of another virus that caused a global pandemic six years ago. But health experts say hantavirus is not the same as COVID-19. We'll learn why by talking to a local epidemiologist. Guest: - Tara Smith, Ph.D., Professor of Epidemiology, Kent State University
Eddie McGuire, Former President of Collingwood AFL club based in Melbourne, and Aishling Moloney, AFLW player with Geelong Cats & Former Tipperary Ladies Football player, discuss the prospect of an all Irish women's AFL team.

Michael Clinton is the former president and publishing director of Hearst Magazines and is currently special media advisor to the Hearst Corporation's CEO. If you don't know which magazines Hearst owns, here are a few: Cosmopolitan, Elle, Harper's Bazaar, Esquire, Good Housekeeping, Country Living, Women's Health, Men's Health, Popular Mechanics, Car and Driver, and O, The Oprah Magazine. Michael is also a regular columnist for Men's Health, and his work has been featured in Forbes, Oprah Daily, Esquire, Elle, and on CBS Mornings. Michael has traveled through over a hundred countries, has run marathons on seven continents, is a private pilot, part owner of a vineyard in Argentina, has started a nonprofit foundation, holds two master's degrees, and still has a long list of life experiences that he plans to tackle. He is also the author of the book, Longevity Nation. Michael currently resides in New York and Santa Fe, New Mexico. In this episode we discuss the following: Movement is medicine. Not the pharmacy kind, but the kind we build into our life, day after day, year after year. Longevity isn't something reserved for the genetically lucky, but rather a choice we can make. And given that people are living longer than ever, it has never been more important to take care of ourselves. It's never too late to start getting healthy. Michael takes inspiration from 100 year old marathon runner who started running in his 80s. We can avoid the midlife crisis by recognizing it as an opportunity. If we're going to live longer, then we're not winding down… we're just getting to halftime. And that means there's still time to rebuild, improve, and re-invest in a better version of ourselves.

It was a pleasure to welcome Rob Kaplan, Vice Chairman of Goldman Sachs, and former President of the Dallas Fed, to the Alpha Exchange. We begin with Rob's reflections on his time at the helm of the Dallas Fed from 2015 to 2021, a period spanning rate liftoff, fiscal stimulus, and the COVID crisis. He outlines how his perspective as a business practitioner led him to focus on structural forces—demographics, globalization, and technology—rather than relying solely on cyclical data and economic models. We then turn to the current environment, where the Fed faces a more complex trade-off between inflation and employment. Rob highlights the limits of monetary policy, emphasizing that broader economic outcomes are increasingly shaped by fiscal policy, regulation, and structural trends beyond the Fed's control. The conversation also explores changes in financial markets, including the diminished influence of Fed policy on the long end of the yield curve, the growing importance of supply and demand for Treasuries, and the implications of a more leveraged global economy. We close with a discussion on regulation, private credit, and the impact of geopolitical shocks, as well as how AI-driven disruption is influencing corporate behavior and risk management across industries. I hope you enjoy this episode of the Alpha Exchange, my conversation with Rob Kaplan.

CultureWerk: The Twelve Pillars of Leadership Multiplication by Tom Kereszti https://www.amazon.com/CultureWerk-Twelve-Pillars-Leadership-Multiplication/dp/166578833X Leadershipdisciples.com What if you could build organizations that thrive without you? In CultureWerk, you’ll discover the 12 Cultural Pillars that transform exhausted executives into architects of self-sustaining success. These aren’t consultant theories-they’re hard-won lessons from Tom Kereszti’s journey through five continents, turning disasters into triumphs for companies like Colgate-Palmolive, Benckiser, and Strauss Group. You’ll learn the same frameworks that helped transform a money-bleeding Prague operation into a profit powerhouse. The partnership approach that outmaneuvered Sara Lee and Kraft in acquisition battles. The trust-building secrets Navy SEALs use to turn ordinary people into extraordinary teams. Why Disney-Pixar created billions while Daimler-Chrysler destroyed value-and how to ensure you’re on the right side of that equation. But here’s what matters most: you’ll finally understand why your best people leave (hint: it’s not the money), why your team waits for you to solve everything (you trained them to), and how to break the cycle that’s keeping you trapped. This book won’t just change how you lead-it will free you from the prison of being indispensable. You’ll build something more valuable than a successful business: a legacy that multiplies through others. Your future self-rested, strategic, and watching your organization thrive without your constant intervention-starts here. You’re the only one who can close the big deals and fix the real problems-that’s not leadership, that’s a life sentence. Discover the 12 pillars that transform organizations and executives into architects of self-sustaining cultures where leaders emerge naturally at every level. “CultureWerk is not another leadership book built on theory-it’s a masterclass forged in the real world. Tom Kereszti doesn’t just talk about culture; he shows you how to engineer it, protect it, and multiply it so your organization can thrive long after you step out of the room. What makes this book rare is its focus on leadership multiplication, not leadership dependency. Too many organizations rise only as high as their most visible leader. CultureWerk teaches you how to embed leadership so deeply into your culture that your people grow, your teams self-correct, and your mission outlives any single personality. Through the Twelve Pillars, Tom delivers a practical, global, and deeply human blueprint for building teams that perform with excellence and sustain impact across generations. This is the kind of book that changes how you lead on Monday morning-not just how you think on Sunday night. If you are serious about building a culture that scales, lasts, and multiplies leaders at every level, CultureWerk is not optional-it’s essential.” – Chris Robinson USA Today Bestselling Author, From Drift to Drive Executive Vice President, Maxwell Leadership “Different companies, different industries, strategies, technologies, and products – peel it all back, and what ultimately seals a company’s success is its culture. This book focuses precisely on that – on what truly transforms organizations into lasting legacies.
