Three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets entered the Estonian skies ‘without permission and remained there for a total of 12 minutes', as the Estonian government reported on September 19th. It is the latest example of the threat of Russian aggression. We speak with Toomas Hendrik Ilves, the former president of Estonia, who, during his presidency (2006-2016), faced increasing Russian cyberattacks and efforts to destabilize the region. After Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, eyes have also been turned towards the Baltic states. Will Putin risk invading Estonia, Latvia, or Lithuania? Twenty-four years after the fall of the Soviet Union and the restoration of independence, the Baltic states have become frontline nations between Russia and the West. How do Russia's neighbors, who have endured years of Russian oppression, view Europe's security challenges now that Russia is increasingly testing the borders of Nato-territory?"Losing democracy happens in much the same way as a character goes bankrupt in Ernest Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises: “gradually, and then suddenly" Toomas Hendrik Ilves, in The EconomistToomas Hendrik Ilves, President of Estonia from 2006 to 2016, has been a key figure in shaping Estonia's post-Soviet transformation and its role in Europe. Born in Sweden to Estonian refugee parents who fled Soviet occupation and mass deportation to Siberia, Ilves was deeply influenced by their experience of displacement. Before becoming president, he served as Estonia's Ambassador to the United States and played a pivotal role in Estonia's accession to the European Union and NATO in 2004. Durign his presidency he focused on Estonia's digital innovation and cybersecurity and European integration.Programme editor: Veronica BaasModerator: Yoeri AlbrechtSupported by: NATOZie het privacybeleid op https://art19.com/privacy en de privacyverklaring van Californië op https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Walking through the world these past few days, it's impossible not to feel the weight of history as Donald Trump's courtroom battles command headlines and conversations alike. As of October 24th, 2025, Trump's legal saga has reached an intensity few could have predicted, with trials spanning from district courts all the way to the Supreme Court. Each proceeding has the energy of a high-stakes drama, with new twists at every session.Just this week, we saw the federal courtroom in Washington, D.C., become a stage for discussions on Trump's actions while in office. In the criminal case involving alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election, prosecutors brought forward fresh evidence—including testimonies from former aides—that put a spotlight on conversations inside the White House during January 2021. Supporters and protestors have crowded the courthouse steps daily, their voices creating a constant backdrop for the legal action inside.Meanwhile, in New York, former President Trump faced a different kind of scrutiny. The civil fraud trial there continues to dominate headlines as Letitia James, the state's Attorney General, pushes forward her claim that Trump and his company repeatedly misrepresented their finances to banks and insurers. This week's testimony from Allen Weisselberg, the Trump Organization's former chief financial officer, gripped the courtroom and brought a new layer of detail to the allegations. Reporters from CNN and the Associated Press have described the cross-examinations as relentless, with both sides fiercely contesting what constitutes “inflating values.”Over on the West Coast, yet another courtroom drama is playing out. On October 3rd, according to the Lawfare Project's Litigation Tracker, the Northern District of California delivered a ruling in City of Chelsea v. President Trump regarding immigration enforcement in so-called sanctuary cities. Here, the judge denied Trump's push to expand federal control, a legal defeat that quickly reverberated through cable news. The Supreme Court's docket, tracked in detail on its official website, shows multiple pending appeals connected to Trump, including disputes over executive privilege and the boundaries of presidential immunity. Legal scholars from around the country are debating in newspapers and on air what these cases could mean for the future balance of power and for future presidents themselves. And through it all, Donald Trump remains a presence both in and outside the courtroom. He's been vocal on Truth Social, insisting that each case is politically motivated, even as the judiciary methodically moves forward. Every day, journalists from outlets like the New York Times and Reuters file updates on depositions, sidebars, and the constant parade of witnesses.Thank you for tuning in to this whirlwind week of legal battles, firsthand drama, and American history in the making. Another whirlwind week just unfolded in America's courtrooms, and once again, the spotlight was firmly fixed on Donald Trump. It's Friday, September 26, 2025, and the cascade of legal drama surrounding the former president has hardly paused for breath. Early this week, a Supreme Court order commanded headlines. On September 22, the justices agreed to hear the Trump v. Slaughter case—a direct result of Trump's effort to immediately dismiss a member of the Federal Trade Commission. The nation's highest court, led by Chief Justice John Roberts, granted Trump's stay, effectively pausing a lower court's block on the firing and fast-tracking the question: do federal laws that protect FTC members from removal by the president violate the separation of powers? The Supreme Court set the stage for arguments to happen in December, signaling a high-stakes showdown. Notably, Justice Elena Kagan issued a firm dissent, joined by Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Ketanji Brown Jackson, warning of the potential consequences for independent federal agencies. The outcome could reshape presidential powers for years to come.Simultaneously, on the West Coast, California's legal battle with Trump's administration took a dramatic turn. Governor Gavin Newsom, alongside the State of California, is challenging Trump and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth over the federalization of the California National Guard—sparked by Trump's June executive orders. The case, Newsom v. Trump, has captivated legal observers. Earlier this month, Judge Charles R. Breyer delivered a major opinion granting injunctive relief to California, temporarily blocking the federalization pending further proceedings. The fight is far from over, with hearings drawing crowds—some tuning in via restricted remote feeds as the courtroom swelled with attorneys and journalists. The question at the heart of the case? Whether Trump's maneuver to take control of state military resources overstepped constitutional bounds. The sheer scope of litigation entangling Trump is staggering. According to the Trump Administration Litigation Tracker from Lawfare, nearly three hundred active cases are currently challenging executive orders and actions issued during his administration. These range from national security measures to disputes over the deployment of the National Guard, echoing and amplifying the themes now playing out in federal courts from Washington, D.C., to California. Even as the Supreme Court's decision in Trump v. Slaughter looms, dozens of other lawsuits continue to churn in the lower courts, with attorneys filing briefs, seeking emergency stays, and pressing for quick resolutions.Unrelenting legal pressure, contentious constitutional questions, and a judiciary now caught in the crossfire—Donald Trump's legal saga keeps the nation in suspense. Thank you for tuning in for another week of updates on the trials that shape history. Come back next week for more. This has been a Quiet Please production. Last week, Brazil made history when its supreme court convicted the country's former far right president Jair Bolsonaro, and seven other defendants, of attempting a coup after his failed re-election bid in 2022. Bolsonaro was sentenced to more than 27 years in prison. The verdict brings an end to Brazil's historical leniency in dealing with military men who have tried to overthrow democratically elected governments.Thousands of Brazilians took to the streets to celebrate the sentencing, while the leaders of neighbouring countries like Chile and Colombia paid tribute to the country's democratic institutions. However, some members of the Brazilian congress immediately embarked on efforts to secure an amnesty for Bolsonaro and his co-conspirators.And Brazilian diplomats continue to anxiously await a formal response from the US, where president Donald Trump said he was “very unhappy” with the verdict and US secretary of state Marco Rubio described the trial as a “witch hunt”.Will Trump, who has already imposed 50 per cent tariffs on Brazil, impose further sanctions in response to the conviction? Can Bolsonaro's supporters secure an amnesty for the divisive former leader? And what does this all mean for next year's presidential election in Brazil?Today, on In The News, Brazil's Bolsonaro is facing 27 years in prison, but will he do his jail time?Irish Times South America contributor Tom Hennigan discusses the national and international reaction to the Bolsonaro trial and verdict.Presented by Sorcha Pollak. Brazil's former president, Jair Bolsonaro, has been sentenced to more than twenty-seven years in prison after the Supreme Court found him guilty of attempting a coup when he lost the 2022 election. More than 300 South Koreans who were arrested in the raid in the Hyundai plant in Georgia have now been released from detention and flown to their country. And how can this affect the economic relations between both countries? London's underground rail system – the Tube – has been closed for five days by a strike over pay and conditions for train drivers, and this has been very stressful for commuters, but more than that, it has been very damaging for businesses. And Roger Hearing hears about the use of artificial intelligence to write speeches for politics and business and how you can detect if it's written by AI or a human. Throughout the program, Roger will be joined by two guests on opposite sides of the world – Nga Pham, a journalist and filmmaker based in Taipei, although she will be joining us today from Hanoi in Vietnam - and Stephanie Hare, a researcher on technology and ethics in London.

After 43 years with the company, Ricky's leadership legacy is steeped in faith, humility, and an unwavering commitment to people and product integrity. From a young territory manager trying to conquer a new market to leading the company through one of its biggest crises, Ricky's story is a testament to servant leadership and doing business the right way—one scoop at a time. His commitment to people, product quality, and transparency has shaped not just a brand, but a culture. “Once you compromise on quality, what's to stop you from compromising again?” – Ricky Dickson “Go humble, but go confident—and know that you are influencing those around you, whether you realize it or not.” – Ricky Dickson “We are in the people business. Both on the producing side and the enjoying side.” – Ricky Dickson This Week on The Wow Factor: Ricky's upbringing in San Antonio, Texas, and the Christian foundation laid by his parents How a college paper on Blue Bell led to his first job—and ultimately a 43-year career The values that shaped Blue Bell's culture and why people stayed with the company for decades What makes ice cream “premium”—a behind-the-scenes look at overrun, butterfat, and flavor design Why Blue Bell refused to shrink its carton size or skimp on ingredients—even when costs surged A leadership masterclass in how to love people well, even when it's time for them to move on The 2015 pathogen crisis: how it started, how Blue Bell responded, and how God showed up in the storm Rebuilding trust with customers, employees, and regulators—and doing it without compromising values The surprising legal “letter” from a law firm begging for the return of a discontinued flavor Ricky Dickson's Word of Wisdom: Dream big. In this conversation with Ryan, Bob retraces three distinct “chapters”: moving from Europe back to Boston to start a category from scratch, building Cobra Puma Golf into a global disruptor out of Carlsbad, and then steering Puma's North American engine across basketball, running, soccer, Formula One, and beyond. He shares what courage looked like inside the brand—betting on golf, doubling down with Cobra, and re-entering basketball. Now on sabbatical and writing a book, Bob distills three decades in sports into lessons on growth, mentorship, and vision—because, as he puts it, “growth is fun, growth is good, and it's always worth chasing.”

How to Solve the Real Problem Killing Your Profit with Doug C. Brown Why Sales ≠ Profit—And the Blind Spots That Bleed Cash The Profit Gap: Why More Sales Might Be Making You Broke You're pushing for more revenue. Your team is grinding. But your bank balance isn't growing. In fact, you're more stressed, your margins are tighter, and your team is overwhelmed. Why? Because most businesses chase symptoms—like “bad sales teams” or “slow growth”—instead of finding and fixing the true root cause. Doug C. Brown, a $900M revenue growth expert, exposes the hidden math, decision blind spots, and operational leaks that silently kill profit… even in high-revenue companies. If you're running faster but falling further behind, this episode is your wake-up call. In This Episode You'll Learn: Why your biggest profit leaks never show up on your P&L. How a simple math-based model predicts revenue and risk. The deadly myth of “more sales = more profit” (and what to do instead). Why follow-up failures cost you more than bad leads. How to stop being held hostage by top salespeople. Key Takeaways (Costly Mistakes & Blind Spots): You're solving symptoms, not root causes.. Most owners blame sales teams, not systems. Doug shows how tracking lagging indicators masks the real issues. Revenue can bankrupt you. One client scaled from $5.7M to $8.2M in three weeks—and imploded because ops couldn't handle the growth. You're losing 6–7 figures in slow follow-up. Many companies take 28+ days to follow up on leads. Doug's framework closes this loop—and closes more deals. Poor cash flow ≠ pricing problem—it's a terms problem. A utility pole company nearly collapsed waiting 180 days for payments. Doug explains how to fix your pay-cycle math. You don't need more clients—you need better ones. 90% of profit often comes from 10% of clients. But you're spending your energy on the wrong 90%. Doug teaches how to flip that math. About Doug C. Brown: Doug C. Brown is CEO of CEO Sales Strategies and a globally recognized sales revenue and profit growth expert. He's built 35+ businesses and driven over $900 million in sales—helping companies like Intuit, Procter & Gamble, and Tony Robbins' organizations scale smarter. Former President of Sales for Tony Robbins & Chet Holmes, Doug is known for his math-based, cause-first approach to revenue growth. One declassified email exchange reveals that “HRC approved Julia's [Clinton foreign policy advisor Julianne Smith] idea about Trump and Russian hackers hampering U.S. elections. That should distract people from her own missing email, especially if the affair goes to the Olympic level.” 4:45pm- While speaking with Glenn Beck, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard revealed there are still people working within the intelligence community that weaponized intelligence for political purpose—though, the Trump Administration is actively working on removing them. 5:05pm- CNN Senior Analyst Harry Enten evaluated the “Democrat brand”—and according to survey data it “is in the basement and it is total and complete garbage.” 5:15pm- On Thursday night, former Vice President Kamala Harris made a guest appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert where she promoted her soon to be released book, “107 Days.” Harris was unable to name the current leaders of the Democratic Party. 5:40pm- George Stephanopoulos gets stuck in an elevator!
