SUPPORT ME ON PATREON WATCH MUSIC is not a GENRE VIDEOS and MORE If you didn't live it, you can't feel it. The title track of this album was 100% accurate. While video games had been a craze for a few years, when Pac-Man was introduced in 1980, everyone went Berserk (pun intended – this was another arcade game released in 1980, and was almost always near or right beside the Pac-Man machine. Plus it's the inspiration for the last song on this album.). Before Fortnite, before Minecraft, before Grand Theft Auto, before Doom, before even Super Mario – Pac-Man fever was the craze that started it all. Yes, Atari and Pong before that staked claims to some feverishness, but Pac-Man set the standard for all future temperature spikes. I have been a huge video game fan since I got the Atari 2600 for Christmas back in 1977. I mostly play on my phone now, though occasionally play Switch games with my kids. Back then it was two things: hours in front of the TV with my joystick; and getting dumped at an arcade with my bro anytime my parents wanted some chill time alone – we loved it. Whatever the console or format or adrenalin delivery system, video games have been in my mix just about every week of my life for 40+ years. It's no wonder that I went super nuts when my obsession merged with my first love: music. No one is claiming anything on Buckner & Garcia's album is genius – it was clearly cashing in on a trend. It cashed in big time with two million plus selling singles – the title track and “Do the Donkey Kong”. And it's better than you might remember. I gotta give a shoutout to “Froggy's Lament” & “Ode To A Centipede” too – Frogger & Centipede were huge games back then. Each song on this album was a tribute to one of the hot video/arcade games of the time, and all were equally cheesy fun. Listening back again, it sounds like each song was also meant to mimic other hot bands at the time, which is kinda cool to hear. Another cool fact is that Jerry Buckner (who's still alive) cowrote the theme song to Wreck-It Ralph. My old band Ape Café did a KICK-ASS live version of “Pac-Man Fever”. And now & then I'll include a cheesy-type cover in my live sets. As far as writing & recording, though, I don't really do novelty or tribute songs. But a few of my tunes that have that feel. I did theme songs for two movies I co-produced with my former film company that were both very tribute-y (“This End Up” and “Lock-Load-Love” – look them up on YouTube!). As far as a tune from one of my albums, “KPS” fits the bill. It's a tribute to K-Pop, and features some distinctly video game-y sounds. REC - “Korean Pop Song” (from the album The Sunshine Seminar) Favorites are all of Side One, and Side Two track 2 & 4? CAN YOU NAME the other arcade games this album name checks? CAN YOU IDENTIFY the bands each song was trying to mimic? What are YOUR favorite video games? Pac-Man is a maze arcade game developed and released by Namco in 1980. As I can remember when I was a little boy. I played Pac-Man on the arcade machine, at the laundromat and also at the Arcade game section of many malls. Puck Man was changed to Pac Man. Puck Man was its original Japanese title.- How to play Pac Man? The player controls Pac Man with a joy stick or arcade game controller. While moving Pac Man the mission is for Pac Man to eat all of the dots on the inside of the different enclosed mazes while avoiding the four colored ghost monsters. The ghost monsters names are Blinky(red), Pinky(pink), Inky(cyan), and Clyde(orange). When Pac Man eats the large flashing dots called power pellets the ghost monsters turn blue, allowing Pac Man to eat them for bonus points. Eating a certain number of dots in a level will cause a bonus item, usually in the form of a fruit to appear and then Pac Man eats these different fruits for bonus points. Also.- Pac Man's origin. A man name Toru Iwatani developed the game in 1979. He had a vision and desire to create a game that would appeal to women as well as men. Since most of the video games at that time were war or sports themed. His inspiration was the image of a pizza with a slice removed and then he thought kuchi the Japanese symbol meaning mouth. This became our today Pac Man. The in the game characters were made to be cute and colorful to appeal to the younger players(the children). The original Japanese title of Puck Man was derived from the official character's hockey puck shape.- Pac Man is a widespread critical and commercial success. The game is important and influential, and it is commonly listed as one of the greatest video games of all time. The success of the game led to many sequels, merchandise, and two television series, as well as a hit single titled, "Pac Man Fever" released in 1981 by the American musical duo Jerry Buckner and Gary Garcia. The Pac Man video game franchise remains one of the highest grossing and best selling game series of all time, generating more than $14 billion in revenue as of 2016 and $43 million in sales combined. The character of Pac Man is the mascot and flagship icon of Bandai Namco Entertainment and has the highest brand awareness of any video game character in North America.- In closing out! Let us all continue to enjoy playing Pac Man. Pac Man doesn't care! He keeps on eating. Waka! Waka! Waka! -Waka! Waka! Waka!

In the early 1980's, Pac-Man was a wildly successful arcade game that took the world by storm. Some of the things inspired by Pac-Man included a cartoon, a board game, breakfast cereal, and a hit pop song that reached #9 on the Hot 100 Billboard Pop chart! That song was "Pac-Man Fever", and it was created by Buckner and Garcia. In 1982, Buckner and Garcia followed up the success of "Pac-Man Fever" with an entire album of songs inspired by video games, also entitled "Pac-Man Fever". In this episode: Jerry Buckner discusses the success of "Pac-Man Fever", a series of near misses, and fascinating behind the scenes stories about being a songwriter, jingle writer, and voiceover artist.
The year is 1982 and the song Pac-Man Fever becomes a world wide hit for the artists Buckner & Garcia. In fact, People Magazine names Pac Man Fever as one of the Top Pop Cultural Events of all time.
