Across Wisconsin and across the nation, local TV news teams are shrinking. Earlier this year, Allen Media Group — which owns Madison's WKOW — announced it would scrap local meteorologists and turn weather forecasts over to The Weather Channel in Atlanta. The media giant later reversed its decision but had many people wondering: is the future of local TV news at risk? We caught up with media expert and UW-Madison journalism professor Mike Wagner to find out. Wanna talk to us about an episode? Leave us a voicemail at 608-318-3367 or email madison@citycast.fm. In the second episode of our Member Takeover Series this summer, we're keeping the momentum going with two more powerhouse members of the Brotherhood, featuring Mike Wagner and hosted by Alex Pardo. Mike doesn't hold back about his struggles with being genuinely present for his family and how he used work to escape the daily pressures of fatherhood. A big part of Mike's recovery is his embodiment practice of "feeling whatever is" and being honest about his emotional struggles in front of his kids. He shares why this practice is not just for him but serves as a live demonstration to his children on managing emotions in healthy ways. You'll also hear why Mike recommends testing a concept he adapted from Tucker Max, the Minimum Viable Separation. Key Moments:“The best drug you can have is exercise, and so I try to stay fit with both aerobic and strength resistance training because I think both are important. You know, as you get older, one of the major causes of death is falling, certainly over the age of 65.”“When it comes to healthspan and longevity, we're probably never going to have great randomized placebo-controlled studies because simply nobody's going to pay for that and it would take way too long to start people at 50 and then follow them for 40 or 50 years to see who lives longer; that would be hard.”“I started statin when I was 35, I'm 49 now, just because I had a strong family history of heart disease and that was most likely going to be the thing that would kill me later in life.”“I take statins because there are hundreds of different randomized placebo-controlled, well done studies that show a direct correlation: the lower you get your LDL, the less likely you are to have a cardiac event. You know, what we call MACE, or a major adverse cardiac event. So the lower you go the better.”

This will be a 7-part series where I'll be asking them about their lives as Dads and we'll talk about what their experiences have been like so far in our amazing group of family men with businesses, not businessmen with families. I hope you'll check out these conversations with some badass members of our community each week. And don't be afraid to share these episodes with your friends and let us know your thoughts along the way! For anyone that isn't already a Front Row Dads member, you can sign up right here: Join The Brotherhood! Here's what you need to know about today's guest, Ben Golden. I'm married to my beautiful wife, Lauren. We have one daughter, Annabelle, who is about a year and a half old and goes by "la princessa" at daycare. She's already working her cuteness on people. I've spent 15+ years in the energy software space, mainly around energy trading and risk management applications. From managing sales teams, to global project implementation teams, and customer success organizations I've been on the people facing side my entire career. One of my passions is finding that right combination of people and technology and seeing how it can change people's perspectives, engagement, and even lives. The power of an engaged and enabled team is something I am constantly in awe of. My wife and I have always been working on side projects.. We recently sold our home services business this last summer and are now going head first into real estate. Specifically, storage facilities under the guidance of Mike Wagner, another FRD legend. If that wasn't enough, we are in the middle of selling our home in Houston and heading into an RV while we look for a house or property on the Dripping Springs side of Austin. Wish us luck! Want to learn more about Front Row Dads? We are in the business of building better families. While most dads would say that family matters most, the challenge is they feel guilty knowing their careers get the best of them, and their family seems to get the rest of them. We help Dads become family men with businesses, not businessmen who have families, so they can thrive personally AND professionally. Subscribe to the Front Row Dad podcast to learn about fatherhood, marriage and how to level up your game at home, or if you're ready for the best coaching and true brothers to grow with, Join The Brotherhood!
