Join the Parajunkie Fam for ZERO ADS ALWAYS! www.patreon.com/savannahundergroundGet cozy and prepare for chills as we dive into another spooky edition of Ghost Mail—where our fans send in their most spine-tingling true paranormal experiences!First, Gwen from Australia shares two haunting stories from her childhood. In the shadows of her family home lurked something sinister, manifesting as a terrifying, human-sized centipede with a porcelain woman's face—a vision that still haunts her to this day. But Gwen also found comfort in the paranormal when the spirits of her beloved childhood pets, Bluebell and Whitebell, appeared in dreams and fleeting glimpses, showing her that animal spirits can linger with loving energy.Next, Nix from Chicago takes us through a lifetime filled with spectral encounters, shadow figures, and mysterious apparitions. From seeing her husband's ghostly double accompanied by a shadow figure, to a home so active with paranormal activity that furniture blocked doors and invisible entities interacted with her children. Now, she wonders if her emotional plea for her children's safety has bound her to these spirits forever, and if her mental health journey might influence future experiences.Join us as we unpack these chilling tales and explore the boundaries between fear, protection, and the unseen world. Are we creating these phenomena ourselves, or is there truly something else out there watching—and sometimes reaching out—from the dark? Tune in, keep the lights on, and let's dive into another unforgettable Ghost Mail episode!

In 1983, Marvel Comics launched a magazine about video games. This was not a comic book; it was a magazine. (Okay, it was a tiny comic book-sized magazine. Happy now?) It lasted just seven issues, utterly failing to make a blip, even though it was in fact called Blip. So today we're flipping through the first issue of Blip, trying to make sense of it all. On the cover is actor Matthew Laborteaux (Little House on the Prairie, Whiz Kids), looking very upset that we interrupted his game of Tron. Inside we learn the favorite video games of more Hollywood stars, assuming you define "star" as "someone who appeared on The Facts of Life once or twice." We also learn about Missile Command, Centipede, Dig Dug, Pitfall, and Bubble Yum. (That last one might just be an advertisement.) Sure, there were much bigger, much better video game magazines around in the early 80s. But only one was Stan Lee-approved. So stick with Blip, true believers.

People have played games forever, but it's only in the past few decades that people really started thinking about what games are, how they work, and how to make them better. Anatomy of Game Design (CRC Press, 2024) takes some of the most popular and beloved games of all time and dissects them to see what makes them tick. By breaking down the systems and content of each game, the underlying systems of game design are laid bare. Eight games are analyzed – including Settlers of Catan; Centipede; Candy Crush Saga; Papers, Please; Magic: The Gathering; and more – each representing a different genre or era of game design. Each game is discussed in detail, using the same methods for each game. What are the verbs of the game that give the player agency? How do those verbs fit together to form a core loop that makes the game engaging? What are the systems that power the gameplay? What is the larger flow that makes the game interesting over and over again? Each game is then used as an example to tie back to one or more larger topics in game design, such as systems design, randomness, monetization, game theory, and iterative approaches to game development. Key Features: Uses well-known games to provide specific, discrete examples of broader game design theory Discusses eight popular games using the same methodology to allow comparison of different types of games Includes both high-level theory and academic perspective and practical, real-world guidance from a working game designer who has created these games for commercial release Provides clear direction for deeper inquiry into game design or related fields such as psychology, anthropology, game development, or systems thinking Rudolf Thomas Inderst is a professor of Game Design with a focus on Digital Game Studies at the IU International University of Applied Science, department lead for Games at culture magazine Titel kulturmagazin, editor of “DiGRA D-A-CH Game Studies Watchlist”, a weekly messenger newsletter about Game Culture and curator of @gamestudies at tiktok. TCW Podcast Episode 217 - The Games of Ed Logg Ed Logg had a long and distinguished career in Atari's coin-op division. Initially aspiring to be a math professor, his path changed after encountering the Atari 2600 at a friend's Christmas party. While at Atari, Logg created the legendary game Asteroids, which became a massive success. He continued his streak with Super Breakout and co-created Centipede with Dona Bailey. Inspired by his son's love of Dungeons & Dragons, and the game Dandy, Logg developed the classic Gauntlet. He later created one of the first arcade first-person shooters, Xybots. Although his attempts to transition into the 3D era with games like Steel Talons, San Francisco Rush, and Dr. Muto did not achieve the same level of success; Ed Logg's deep understanding of what makes a great arcade game has left a lasting impact not only in the coin-op space, but across the entire gaming industry. Today's poem, written in 1871, actually gave the name to the since-codified psychological phenomenon known as the “centipede effect” or “centipede syndrome.” Psychologist George Humphrey (for whom the condition is alternatively named “Humphrey's Law”) said of the poem, "This is a most psychological rhyme. It contains a profound truth which is illustrated daily in the lives of all of us." Get full access to The Daily Poem Podcast at dailypoempod.substack.com/subscribe

Kids, In-laws or midlife crisis. As we enter our mid to late 40's what are we turning to to make us feel like our lives mean something? Clint answers questions about care for Centipede lawns, leveling and top-dressing Bermuda and the dreaded weed Poa annua (annual bluegrass).
From one sentence in a notebook to a hundred digital legs, we talk about Atari's second best selling game ever and one of the highest-grossing in arcade history, Centipede. What makes Centipede so appealing to female players? How did Space Invaders lead Dona Bailey from Cadillacs to Atari? Why was there a delay in releasing this episode and is our excuse good enough for forgiveness? How did the first Atari World Championships spotlight that women could be better than men at video games? The excellent listener questions for this episode ask us to insert our choice for the most deserving creature that has never been featured into a video game, and if our lives depended on having to 1cc an arcade game what would it be? Welcome to the Blue Beryl, a podcast with intelligent conversations about Buddhism, Asian Medicine, and embodied spirituality. In this episode, host Dr Pierce Salguero sits down with BBP producer Dr Lan Li to reflect on Season 1 and look ahead to Season 2. We discuss showing up for scholarly work as a whole person, how studying Buddhist medicine challenges the academic status quo, and what do I mean by calling Season 2 “embodied spirituality”? Along the way, we touch on talismanic chants, poisonous centipedes, dissolving bodies, and the unfolding mystery that this podcast is pursuing.Enjoy! A failing prison warden, attempts to solve his problems by creating a 500-person human centipede out of his prisoners based on the idea from The Human Centipede movies. The Human Centipede III (Final Sequence) is not a fun watch. This is the second time we watched this film and we wanted to finish the series, however, we were not looking forward to it. The film is uncertain if it wants to be a comedy or a horror. It most likely wants to be both, but falls short in both areas and comes off as annoying. While we're not a big fan of these movies, this one was definitely not for us. Watch the movie and catch our review.Check out our website https://thefinalpodcast.com/Subscribe to our YouTube channel @thefinalpodcast Follow us on Facebook The Final Podcast Follow us on Instagram @thefinalpodcastFollow us on Twitter @thefinalpodeverMusic Credit: Karl Casey @ White Bat Audiohttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_6h.
Kill The Rock Star is back, crawling into your podcast feed like a multi-legged insect through a bathroom window… a real lyrical allusion this song makes in connection to horniness that takes every ounce of our intellectual powers to untangle!! Here to help us make sense of it all is Returning Champion Megan Sunday!! Along the way, we talk awkward tour guide spiels, erect cobras, loose tigers, matching cummerbunds, erotic rictus, lightning fingers, and Michael Jackson dedicating this song to “all my mannequin friends,” among many, many other bewildering details!! Today's poem is by Roald Dahl[a] (13 September 1916 – 23 November 1990), a British popular author of children's literatureand short stories, a poet, and wartime fighter ace.[1][2] His books have sold more than 300 million copies worldwide.[3][4] Dahl has been called "one of the greatest storytellers for children of the 20th century".[5]Dahl's short stories are known for their unexpected endings, and his children's books for their unsentimental, macabre, often darkly comic mood, featuring villainous adult enemies of the child characters.[10][11] His children's books champion the kindhearted and feature an underlying warm sentiment.[12][13] His works for children include James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, The Witches, Fantastic Mr Fox, The BFG, The Twits, George's Marvellous Medicine and Danny, the Champion of the World. His works for older audiences include the short story collections Tales of the Unexpected and The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More.—bio via Wikipedia Get full access to The Daily Poem Podcast at dailypoempod.substack.com/subscribe
