Check out my newsletter at https://TKOPOD.com and join my new community at https://TKOwners.com━Beehiiv is the newsletter platform I've used for over a year and a half because their data shows you exactly what's working. Get 30% off three months at beehiiv.com/chris━I sat down with Ace Enders from The Early November to unpack how money actually moves in music and what it really takes to make a living today. We get into the old label world of advances, recoupment, and why most bands made their money on touring and merch, not album sales. Ace shares what happened when Drive-Thru Records deals flowed up to MCA, why the mid-2000s shift to streaming left so many royalties in limbo, and why a stream paying roughly $0.007 changes how you release music now. We talk touring math at the 1,000-cap level, venue merch cuts, the push-pull between depth and virality, and how artists navigate identity, mental health, and the pressure to keep performing. We also riff on the “messy middle,” the rise of AI music, and why Ace still loves simple, hands-on businesses like cleaning parking lots at 4 a.m. If you want to support Ace, grab the new Ace Enders album dropping on Halloween and pick up the vinyl or hit a show.Enjoy! ---Watch this on YouTube instead here: tkopod.co/p-ytAsk me a question on or off the show here: http://tkopod.co/p-askLearn more about me: http://tkopod.co/p-cjkLearn about my company: http://tkopod.co/p-cofFollow me on Twitter here: http://tkopod.co/p-xFree weekly business ideas newsletter: http://tkopod.co/p-nlShare this podcast: http://tkopod.co/p-allScrape small business data: http://tkopod.co/p-os---
Episode No. 728 features curators Anna Lovatt and Kelly Montana, and artist/curator Pablo Helguera. Lovatt and Montana are the curators of "Lines of Resolution: Drawing at the Advent of Television and Video" at the Menil Drawing Institute, Houston. The exhibition examines the intersection of drawing, television, and video from the late 1950s into the 1980s. "Lines of Resolution" features the work of 25 artists, including Nam June Paik, Howardena Pindell, Sigmar Polke, and Joan Jonas. It is on view through February 8, 2026. A fascinating catalogue was published by the Menil. Amazon and Bookshop offer it for about $35-40. In addition to the works shown below, works discussed on the program include: Ulrike Rosenbach, Bonnet Drawing, 1972. Catherine Elwes, Two Drawings on Glass, 1978. Along with representatives from the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago's curatorial and learning teams, Helguera is the co-curator of "Collection in Conversation with Pablo Helguera," which is at the MCA through July 5, 2026. The exhibition is the product of questions that Helguera, a New York-based artist and educator, posed to a group of 20 Chicago artists, writers, activists, and educators in the fall of 2024. It's on view through July 5, 2026. In addition to the works shown below, works discussed on the program include: Susan Philipsz, We Shall Be All, 2011. Public Collectors, QUARANZINE: A printed space for work produced during the COVID-19 pandemic, 2020. Instagram: Pablo Helguera, Tyler Green.
Guided by seven fundamentals, dubbed return on environment, Mary Cook Associates is known for bringing art and science into the spaces the firm designs, driving measurable results for both residents and its collaborators. In the student housing space, rather than focusing on current trends, the firm positions itself as a “design choreographer” by co-crafting experience beyond just interiors. In this podcast episode, I'm joined by Josh Kassing, Mary Cook Associates' Senior Vice President, as we delve into the main factors reshaping student housing design. Rather than following a checklist and trying a “one-size-fits-all” approach, Kassing believes that student communities should speak to their residents through flexibility, tailored experiences and design finishes. At the same time, the whole process should combine a clear-eyed look at research, feedback and operations, so it appeals to the next generation of students who are no longer impressed just by flashy features. Kassing believes that student housing design should be a coordinated system and that aligning its intent with day-to-day use improves outcomes for residents and operators. The conversation also touches on the need for tailored solutions in the sector, including the firm's “Built to Spec” collaboration with Morgan Li, launched in April this year. Instead of relying on the “catalogue effect” when designing a space, customized furniture can solve common space problems and add to the students' experience. Here's what we touched on:MCA's growth story and why student housing surged (01:15)Student vs multifamily: how are these different? (03:29)Wellness and mental health as a holistic matrix, not checklists (07:41)Pairing programs with real execution (09:07)The “unseen experience”: designing downtime between programmed moments (10:07)Student housing design with a Gen Alpha focus in mind (12:27)Why “one-size-fits-all” doesn't work for student housing (15:51)Targeting identity through thoughtful design (19:07)Built-to-spec furniture with Morgan Li: ending the “catalog effect” (23:00)What's “return on environment” about? (33:52)Next wave: ditch precedent, observe real behavior and AI's “internet” moment (37:44)

LightSpeed VT: https://www.lightspeedvt.com/ Dropping Bombs Podcast: https://www.droppingbombs.com/ In this hard-hitting Dropping Bombs episode, Ken Goodrich shows exactly how he went from an IRS wipeout with only a two-man crew to orchestrating multi-million-dollar exits. From the flashlight-with-Dad origin story and reading The E-Myth 33 times (and later co-authoring the trades edition with Michael Gerber) to teaming with the Wizard of Ads, Ken reveals why most owners crash before they cash out—and the 3-year plan he uses to sprint a business from busted to bankable. Here's the real playbook: join a best-practice group, quantify everything, and buy momentum—if the phone's ringing, there's value. Tell a story that sells so buyers line up. Steer clear of MCA debt (or renegotiate fast), remove bottlenecks, recruit killers, and spot nine-figure opportunities hiding in plain sight. If you're serious about scaling—or selling—this is your wake-up call to document, differentiate, and sprint for 1,000 days.
(i w ogóle wszystko co MCA pisze i nagrywa).Rick Rubin "The Creative Act" - w zasadzie to jeden wielki cytat. Czytanie tego jest trochę jak medytacja. Jason Fried i DHH "ReWork" i "It doesn't have to be crazy at work" - inspirują w podejściu do biznesu.

This week on The Art of SBA Lending, we sit down with Everett Sands, a leader who successfully propelled Lendistry into the top tier of the nation's SBA 7(a) lenders. Everett explains his approach to SBA lending, which involves applying lessons learned from other industries like residential and auto lending to an industry he feels is decades behind. As a fintech and a CDFI, Lendistry occupies a unique space in the market. Everett discusses how his company is leveraging technology and a mission-driven approach to win customers by offering a better, more user-friendly experience than predatory online lenders. He challenges the traditional, anecdote-driven banking model and argues that by embracing data, AI, and streamlined processes, the industry can better serve the small business community and protect its "home turf" from bad actors.

SEASON 2 - EPISODE 155 - Fred Specktor - Agent In this episode of the Team Deakins Podcast, we speak with agent Fred Specktor (CAA). Fred has actually seen it all—now in his 90s, he joined the mailroom at MCA (before its dissolution) after graduating college, and he's been in the business ever since. After a stint as movie mogul Lew Wasserman's assistant at MCA, Fred was fired, and he recounts his journey bouncing between outfits until landing at CAA where he has represented top Hollywood talent for the past four decades. Fred's long career as an agent is populated with moments such as networking at a car accident and attending an acting class with Jack Nicholson, and he shares many of them with us throughout the episode. We also discuss the differences in Hollywood, moviegoing, and filmmaking between today and the previous century, and we learn how he still tackles his work with verve after a lifetime on the job. Plus, Fred makes his prediction for the future of the movies. - If you enjoy listening to Fred, we recommend reading THE GOLDEN HOUR. Fred's career and life is one of the subjects of the novel which was written by previous guest (and Fred's son) Matthew Specktor (Season 2, Episode 146). - This episode is sponsored by Aputure & Barco

In this episode of the Industrial Real Estate Show, Tyler Maddox from MCA Realty shares his 35-year journey from brokerage to leading a Western US-focused industrial investment firm. MCA targets small to mid-bay industrial properties in primary and secondary markets from Texas westward, avoiding tertiary areas due to lower liquidity. Starting in 2011, they concentrated on multi-tenant assets with below-market rents, improving and stabilizing them before selling or refinancing. Their first fund of $50 million launched in 2020, followed by a $100 million second fund in 2024. Maddox explains that their strategy has remained consistent through market shifts, focusing on under-managed assets owned by private investors and upgrading them to capture rent growth, while minimizing risk through tenant diversity. He emphasizes that small-bay industrial is operationally intensive compared to big-box single-tenant buildings, with challenges such as managing mom-and-pop tenants, short leases, credit risk, and varying eviction laws. Despite these hurdles, limited new supply supports resilience in rents and occupancy. Maddox also notes emerging issues like increasing tenant power demands amid strained electrical infrastructure, as well as opportunities in industrial condominiums for owner-users. He credits MCA's success to quick decision-making, discretionary capital, and a strong, complementary team, and sees continued long-term opportunity in the small-bay space due to its scarcity and tenant demand.About Tyler:Mr. Mattox is a Principal at MCA Realty and is responsible for directing the investment related activities including the acquisition, development and disposition of all investments, as well as oversight on the firms asset management. Mr. Mattox has over 33 years of broad based real estate experience.Prior to MCA Realty, Mr. Mattox was the Principal Owner of Mattox Property Services, an opportunistic real estate investment and development company that identified and acquired underperforming assets. In this role, he managed all facets of the repositioning process, including acquisitions, financial underwriting, debt and equity capitalization and physical due diligence. Prior to the formation of Mattox Property Services, Mr. Mattox was employed by CBRE and during his tenure rose to the level of Senior Vice President, the highest office available to producers at the time of his departure.Connect with Tyler:Website: https://mca-realty.com/tyler-mattox/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/tyler-mattox-6723218--

In this short podcast episode, Bryan drops some knowledge to help with understanding voltage drop, a few different causes of it, and NEC recommendations. Voltage is electrical potential or "pressure," and voltage drop is the reduction in electrical potential energy. We often think of it happening across conductors (which add resistance), but it also happens across loads (like contactor coils). Voltage drop across loads is usually designed, but voltage drop across conductors is usually undesigned and undesirable. Several factors contribute to conductor resistance. Length is a major one; long runs of wire introduce more resistance to the circuit than shorter runs. Size/gauge also matters; smaller-gauge wire has more resistance than larger-gauge wire. Copper is the most common material for wiring, but we use other materials (including steel or aluminum), and those have different resistance values. Temperature also affects resistance, as they both increase and decrease as the other one does. When we measure voltage drop, we want to make sure we're doing it under load, NOT on startup. Voltage drops that happen on startup can be mitigated with more suitable infrastructure (including larger wires) or soft starts. Undersized conductors don't have sufficient cross-sectional area for the applied load. To avoid voltage drop due to undersized conductors, we should size conductors based on minimum circuit ampacity (MCA), not breaker size (MOCP). Poor connections can also cause resistance to jump, which reduces voltage; we need to pay attention to the connection design (including torque specs and proper lugging) to avoid making mistakes. Long wires don't cause overheating by themselves, but they still contribute to voltage drop and cause reduced performance (including drawing higher current on startup). It has been almost one year since the first rumors of a Venezuelan gang started circulating in Aurora. A new report from the New York Times Magazine looks back at how those rumors blew up into an election-defining political issue and now unprecedented ICE raids across the Denver metro. So host Bree Davies and producer Paul Karolyi invited outgoing Denver Post immigration reporter Megan Ulu-lani Boyanton to look back at the whole arc of the story and all the other biggest news of the week — from the local grocery union's deals with King Soopers and Safeway to new safety concerns at city-run shelters. Paul talked about dangerous elevators, Alteño, friend of the show slash CPR reporter Sam Brasch's coverage of geothermal energy, and Hold On to Your Butts: A Jurassic Park Rewatch Podcast. Bree discussed the local implications of the “Big Beautiful Bill” and the restoration of the “Confluent People” mural. Megan talked about the MCA's rooftop parties and a tragic accident at a city-run former hotel shelter. What do you think about the Venezuelan gang story? The Oklahoma Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled against a tribal citizen seeking to avoid paying state income tax, restricting the impact of the nation's highest court's controversial 2020 McGirt decision. Gov. Kevin Stitt said, “This is a big win for the future of Oklahoma. From day one, I've fought to make sure every Oklahoman is treated equally," Stitt said in a statement. "Tribal governments, liberal groups, and some elected officials have pushed for special tax exemptions that would create a two-tiered system — one set of rules for tribal citizens and another for everyone else. That's wrong. It would divide our state and weaken the public services every family relies on. This ruling makes it clear that attempts to expand McGirt into civil and tax matters have no basis in the law. We are one Oklahoma. And as long as I'm Governor, we aren't going backwards.” A review of McGirt... McGirt v. Oklahoma: A Summary of the Case and Its Historical Context Background and Historical Context The McGirt v. Oklahoma case, decided by the U.S. Supreme Court on July 9, 2020, is a landmark decision in federal Indian law, addressing tribal sovereignty and criminal jurisdiction in Oklahoma. The case centers on the Muscogee (Creek) Nation's reservation and its implications for state versus federal/tribal authority over criminal prosecutions. Its roots trace back to the 19th century, when the U.S. government forcibly relocated the Five Civilized Tribes (Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Creek, and Seminole) from their southeastern homelands to Indian Territory (modern-day Oklahoma) via the Trail of Tears. The 1833 treaty with the Creek Nation promised a “permanent home” for the tribe, with assurances that no state would govern their lands, allowing self-governance. When Oklahoma became a state in 1907, it assumed criminal jurisdiction over much of the former Indian Territory, including lands reserved for the tribes, despite treaties suggesting otherwise. This practice went largely unchallenged until the McGirt case, which questioned whether the Creek Nation's reservation was ever legally disestablished by Congress. The Case Jimcy McGirt, a Seminole Nation citizen, was convicted in 1997 by an Oklahoma state court in Wagoner County (within the historic Muscogee (Creek) Nation boundaries) for serious sex crimes against a minor, receiving a 500-year sentence and life without parole. McGirt later sought post-conviction relief, arguing that Oklahoma lacked jurisdiction to prosecute him because, as a Native American, his crimes occurred on the Creek Nation's reservation, which he claimed was “Indian country” under the Major Crimes Act (MCA). The MCA (18 U.S.C. §1153) grants exclusive federal jurisdiction over certain major crimes committed by Native Americans in Indian country, defined to include reservation lands (18 U.S.C. §1151). Finally... Tulsa Mayor Monroe comes to an agreement with the Muskogee Nation. How will this impact Oklahomans? What does Tulsa Police Department think of it? The settlement reads: “In the best interest of public safety and inter-governmental cooperation, and to settle this matter in lieu of litigating disputes over jurisdiction, the city agrees that it will not exercise criminal jurisdiction over Indian defendants on the (Muscogee) Nation's reservation... This agreement does not preclude the city from exercising criminal jurisdiction pursuant to any lawful, valid and duly authorized delegation of authority from the nation to the city, including law enforcement activities undertaken by the Tulsa Police Department pursuant to the parties' cross-deputization agreement.”

Midlife Might Be Your Superpower with Tamara Cortoos About TamaraTamara's early forties weren't the smooth, confident years she'd imagined. They were messy, uncertain and full of questions she couldn't answer. So, she wrote her own midlife survival guide. That sparked something bigger, and Midlife Crossroads Academy (MCA) was born.MCA helps midlifers navigate this in-between stage with clarity, confidence and a real sense of possibility. As a midlife guide, Tamara doesn't believe in quick fixes or empty ‘just follow your passion' advice. Midlife isn't about starting over—it's about recalibrating, realigning and stepping into what's next with intention.Tamara is endlessly curious about what makes people tick and how we create lives that feel meaningful and exciting. She loves deep conversations, fresh perspectives and challenging how we see midlife. If this stage has taught her anything, it's that reinvention is always an option. And sometimes, the best is still to come. "Lost Your Spark? Midlife Might Be Your Superpower"In this episode of My Perfect Failure, I'm joined by Tamara Cortoos, who swapped corporate checkboxes for real-life purpose.Tamara had the job, the boxes ticked, and the title—until she looked in the mirror one day and thought, “Wait… who is this?” That moment kicked off a bold midlife pivot. We talk about ditching the “midlife crisis” myth, beating the comparison trap, and why change management isn't just for the boardroom. Tamara's now helping others thrive through her Midlife Crossroads Academy—because midlife isn't the end, it's your second wind.
Episode No. 708 features artist Paul Pfeiffer. The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago is showing the retrospective "Paul Pfeiffer: Prologue to the Story of the Birth of Freedom." For over 25 years, Pfeiffer has investigated spectacle and mass culture, especially sport, and has found within it the power to create and extend political narratives. Included within the exhibition is only the second US presentation of Pfeiffer's landmark 2007 The Saints, an immersive sound and video installation that considers the 1966 men's World Cup final between England and West Germany that is one of the most significant works of the 21st century. "Pfeiffer" was curated by Clara Kim and Paula Kroll. The MCA presentation, which is on view through August 31, was organized by Bana Kattan with Iris Colburn. The exhibition catalogue was published by the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, and MACK. Amazon offers it for $65. Instagram: Paul Pfeiffer, Tyler Green.
Welcome to 3 Bad Brothers, A Beastie Boys Breakdown. For the next 8 weeks, the Dad Bod Rap Pod crew and some special guests will be going album by album through the Beastie Boys' career. This week we are focused on Ad Rock, MCA and Mike D's first album, the wildly successful Licensed To Ill with insight from Dante Ross, who ran in the same circles as the Boys at this formative time in their lives. We will track the band from punk shows to NYC nightclubs, to arena tours, examining their rhymes, beats, cultural impact and more through discussion, interviews, and then score each album on a system we affectionately call the Rick Rubric. Licensed to Ill is thought of as one of rap music's early masterpieces, so we re-listen to the seminal album to see how it holds up nearly 40 years later as rap music, as the beginning of a vast and exploratory career, and as a product of early Def Jam Records, the so-called nerve center of the nascent hip-hop industry at the time. Huge thanks to Dante Ross for joining us to provide cultural context and crack jokes. Please tune in next week when we step through the doors of the cult classic Paul's Boutique. In this episode, host Josh Baer speaks with Madeleine Grynsztejn, director of the MCA Chicago. In part one of the conversation, Baer and Grynsztejn discuss the past, present, and future of the MCA, Grynsztejn's experience becoming a museum director after years as a curator, and how the MCA is pursuing its mission to be a “hyperlocal museum with global reach.” Then, tune in as Grynsztejn and Baer tackle Chicago's vibrant art scene and how the MCA integrates local culture into its programming, including through a new expansion into performance art; and, how the MCA is holding its principles firm in response to challenges facing public institutions and museums.
Live from the tailgate lounge at Chicago Architectural Biennial 6's booth at Expo Chicago, Duncan and Ryan welcome Joey Orr, the newly appointed Deputy Director and Chief Curator of the MCA Chicago. In this densely brilliant and surprisingly hilarious conversation, Orr discusses what it means to steer a contemporary art institution in an era of deep social complexity, political polarization, and shifting museum ethics. We cover everything from the social life of objects to the lore of performance documentation, and even pitch a game show based on the varied memories of Chris Burden's early MCA performance. Orr reflects on social practice, audience authorship, and why curators are public servants—not VIPs. We get deep into what it means to be a meat sack in space, how to radicalize museum engagement, and why reenactments may just be the key to future institutional magic. This is art talk that grinds, gropes, and glows in the dark. No hot dogs, just conceptual fireworks. Today on the Rarified Heir Podcast, we are talking to novelist Matthew Specktor, whose new book, The Golden Hour: A Story of Family and Power in Hollywood, is out now and getting rave reviews. Matthew spoke to us about growing up behind the scenes in Hollywood as the son of an icon of the film industry, Fred Specktor, a super-agent of A-list Hollywood talent who is still going strong at 92 years old. With a roster of clients that included everyone from Robert DeNiro, Gene Hackman, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, Danny Devito and many, many more, Matthew was brought up in and around the film business and had a firsthand look. Part memoir, part biography, part cultural history & part fiction, The Golden Hour has been priases in outlets such as NPR, the New York Times, the Kirkus Review, the LA Times and many more for it's unique look into Hollywood and the battle between art vs. commerce and much more. As this is his third book based on his take on Hollywood, Matthew is getting name-checked alongside iconic LA based, Hollywood centric authors such as Joan Didion and William Goldman and getting praise from authors like Jonathan Lethem and Griffin Dunne. High praise indeed. We get into that as well as how Matthew formed the book and the basis of his exploration into his family and the city formed him, shortly. Matthew's behind-the-scenes stories of how Hollywood was created in the second half of the twentieth century at Tinseltown institutions like MCA, William Morris and CAA beginning in the 1950s and where we are today, 70 years later a a large part of this episode. But we also hear personal stories about pranks the pre-rat pack played on him and his best friend Renee Estevez (daughter of Martin Sheen) in high school, what LA restaurants his family ate on special occasions, the cars and vanity plates of super agents in the City of Angelss and the movie theaters and books that shaped his youth on the Westside of Los Angeles. This is the Rarified Heir Podcast and if you've never had David Lynch tell you, you were more an artist than a deal maker at 13, take a listen because Matthew Specktor has. Everyone has a story.
Ill Communication, released in 1994, marked a high point for the Beastie Boys, blending their signature irreverent style with genre-hopping experimentation. The album saw the trio—Mike D, MCA, and Ad-Rock—seamlessly fuse hardcore punk, jazz-funk, and old-school hip-hop, with the standout single “Sabotage” becoming an anthem of the era. Its explosive bassline, distorted guitars, and aggressive delivery captured the Beasties at their rawest and most innovative. At the same time, tracks like “Sure Shot” and “Root Down” paid homage to their b-boy roots with tight rhymes and slick DJ work from Mix Master Mike. The album wasn't just about sonic chaos—it carried deeper, more mature undertones, reflecting MCA's growing interest in Buddhism and activism. For many fans—and clearly for us here at Totally 80's and 90's Recall—Ill Communication stands as a definitive '90s album that refused to be boxed in. It's wild, funny, political, and endlessly replayable. From punk mosh pits to chill jazz instrumentals like “Sabrosa,” the Beastie Boys proved they weren't just rap pranksters from the '80s—they were legit musical craftsmen. The album captured the eclectic energy of the decade and the spirit of reinvention that defined the Beasties' career. Whether you're blasting “Sabotage” in your car or grooving to the funky vibes of “Flute Loop,” this one hits as hard now as it did in ‘94. Episode No. 704 features artist Wafaa Bilal. The MCA Chicago is presenting "Wafaa Bilal: Indulge Me," the first major survey of Bilal's work. Across his genres-busting career, the Iraqi-American Bilal has made performances, sculptures and related digital presentations that have interrogated the United States' relationship with and conduct within Iraq, the Middle East, and broader geopolitics. Bilal's work also investigates the notion of cultural cannibalism, the ways in which the culture of one people may be used, disassembled, and consumed by another. "Indulge Me" was curated by Bana Kattan, and is on view in Chicago through October 19. An invaluable catalogue was published by the MCA. Amazon and Bookshop offer it for $20-32. Bilal's work is in the collections of museums as unalike as the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art Qatar. His work has been included in exhibitions at the Sharjah Art Foundation, Sharjah UAE; the Art Gallery at NYU Abu Dhabi; and the 32015 Venice Biennale. Instagram: Wafaa Bilal, Tyler Green.
Retired Intelligence Detective Gary Jenkins brings you the best in mob history with his unique perception of the mafia. In this episode of Gangland Wire, host Gary Jenkins interviews the prolific chronicler of the American Mafia, Jeffrey Sussman. Listeners will learn about Morris levy and the mafia's influence on the roots of the world's most important cultural influences, American Rock and Roll. Two of the most important men who influenced the rise of rock and roll were Morris Levy and Alan Freed. Levy had close ties with the Genovese crime family. Levy was the notorious head of the record label Roulette Records. Reportedly, Morris Levy used illicit money from the family to fund his businesses, with several members of the mob said to be present at his meetings. At the time, Freed and other corrupt Disc Jockeys corrupted the entire industry with their "pay for play" of records, which became known as "Payola." Morris Levy terrorized young performers into giving up thier royalities. Meyer Lansky, AKA the “mob's accountant,” was one of the most successful mafiosos in history and had many investments in jukeboxes. Reportedly, he “controlled every Wurlitzer jukebox in the New York area”. So too, did the Chicago Outfit (who rose to power under Al Capone) have many dealings with Lansky and his jukeboxes. A mob history book, The Outfit, argues that the Wurlitzer Corporation accused Lansky and his Chicago associates of disrupting the distribution of Wurlitzer jukeboxes. The Outfit is also said to have worked closely with Jules Stein, head of the Music Corporation of America. Apparently, Stein, the mob, MCA, and Meyer Lansky had all worked at least in some form with the mob fixer Sidney Korshak, a prominent mafia name in Los Angeles.
