How can we gain strength, when our life is rocked by a tragic outcome? Joining Sarah Grynberg is Scarlett Lewis, whose son Jessie was murdered in his classroom at the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting massacre. She is the founder of the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Foundation, whose mission is to create safer and more loving communities after the tragic death of her son. However, this isn't a conversation about a massacre. It's a heartfelt chat about love and healing, as Sarah and Scarlett discuss the signs that Scarlett saw from Jesse after his death; the false conspiracy theories that surround the Sandy Hook Massacre; and how Scarlett chose compassion and forgiveness for the man that murdered her son. If you are longing for an impactful story that pulls at your heartstrings, and that teaches you about the true power of love and survival, then let this emotional chat and Scarlett's courageous words move and inspire you to gather the strength in our own lives too: even in our darkest moments. That to choose love and forgiveness, beyond anger and resentment, is how we may truly heal our lives.    Purchase Sarah's Manifest Your Greatness Course here: https://bit.ly/3FQvkMS Purchase Sarah's Kid's Meditation: https://bit.ly/3kfVJMh Follow Sarah for more wisdom and inspiration: Instagram: instagram.com/sarahgrynberg Website: https://sarahgrynberg.com/ Facebook: facebook.com/sarahgrynberg Twitter: twitter.com/sarahgrynberg YouTube: youtube.com/sarahgrynbergSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Hello Everyone, welcome back to Ruck Up Buttercup, we are so glad to have so many awesome listeners and we hope if you are going through a deployment that you are hanging out with us on Facebook in our group Deployed Love Hearts Connected. This month we are bringing you some really great resources to help you on your journey through military life. Today Ashley and I have a guest you may know from a recent webinar on Deployed Love's Facebook. We are excited to have Scarlett back here with us again today and to dig in a little more on how the Choose Love movement can be used in our military family homes! A little back story on Scarlett Lewis, if you haven't heard of her she is an amazing woman, and one of the parents of the Sandy Hook shooting. She went through an unbelievable tragedy that we can't even imagine having to endure, but chose to take her grief and bring something to schools, communities and families across the nation to help them also come out of difficult times they may endure. Scarlett started what is called the Jessi Lewis Choose Love Movement and has been working since to make sure that her awesome equation she created helps others. Welcome Scarlett!! So for today we have decided to break down that equation with your help and help our military community see just how significant this could be for us to understand and use in your lives. So the first thing is Courage. So we ask of you, how do we choose courage when we are facing all the many fears that the military life brings from frequent moves to the very real possibility of death during deployments? Courage( Less anxiety, stress, fear, enhanced self esteem, improved ability to express ones feelings, self-awareness, willingness to take on difficult things) So the next part of the equation is Gratitude. When we think of gratitude we think this applies so much to the military life and the murphy's law we all tend to endure during deployments. How can we use gratitude to help us look at the positive side of the military life? Gratitude (Positive attitude towards self and others, improved attitude towards learning, appreciation and kindness, mindfulness, see others perspectives and show empathy) So the 3rd step to the method is Forgiveness. In the military life this step really hits when we are talking about the resentment we all too often hear spouses talk about during times of separation, how do you choose forgiveness in those times in order to have a stronger and healthier relationship? Forgiveness (Healthier relationships, emotional regulation, less anger, better able to handle issues, resilience, decision making skills, self management.) The last part of the Choose Love Movement equation is Compassion in Action. How can we be compassionate with our community as we all go through difficult times? Compassion in Action (Enhanced connections, respond in a loving manner, more caring and concern shown to others, improved social skills, social and moral awareness) Find the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Foundation at: www.chooselovemovement.org Join Deployed Love at www.deployedlove.org

About the show: -- Scarlett Lewis is a on a mission of Nurturing Healing and Love. It is a message her son left on her kitchen chalkboard the morning he died in the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting in December 2012.  With this message, she found a new purpose in life. A purpose that focuses on teaching social and emotional skills through her Jesse Lewis Choose Love Foundation. She provides free resources for schools to teach students so that people can begin to learn to turn angry thoughts into loving ones. And this could make all the difference.  About Scarlett: Scarlett Lewis founded the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement after her son was murdered during the Sandy Hook tragedy in December 2012. After his death, Scarlett became part of the solution to the issues in today’s society. Through Choose Love, Scarlett became an advocate for social and emotional learning (SEL) and character development that teaches children how to manage their emotions, feel connected, and have healthy relationships. Choose Love offers a no cost, comprehensive SEL program that empowers educators and teaches children how to handle adversity, have courageous conversations and respond with love. The program has been downloaded in all 50 states and nearly 100 countries, serving nearly 2 million children. Since the tragedy, Scarlett has spoken all across the US and internationally to diverse audiences urging everyone to become part of the solution to the issues we’re experiencing today. Scarlett has the insight and knowledge to speak about turning tragedy into triumph; how to cope with stress and grief; ways to strengthen mental awareness; the importance of self care; post traumatic growth; and more. To help children and adults deal with the stress and challenges of the Coronavirus, Choose Love created a variety of new, free resources; and specifically, to support students and educators as they navigate the new normal of hybrid learning, Choose Love created Choosing Love in Our Brave New World, a back-to-school reintegration unit for Pre-K through 12th grade. -- Social Media Links: Facebook: facebook.com/jlchooselove Instagram: Instagram.com/chooselovemovement Twitter: Twitter.com/Scarlettmlewis LinkedIN: Linkedin.com/in/Scarlett-Lewis-7428a5b7/ Website for FREE Resources on learning social & emotional skills:  https://chooselovemovement.org/

SCARLETT LEWIS: "I’m so very excited about this Afterlife TV episode with Scarlett Lewis, because there’s so many jewels to take away from it. Scarlett lost her six-year-old son, Jesse, in the Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting in Newtown, CT. In spite of this horrifying tragedy, Scarlett’s story is filled with powerful after-death communications (ADCs) and signs of precognitive knowing (when someone subconsciously knows about their impending death). "What’s even more amazing is that Scarlett Lewis learned how to choose thoughts of love instead of anger, hatred or fear, which she shares with us to use in our own lives. And only a short time after the shooting, Scarlett was able to forgive her son’s killer, and her example teaches us how to shed the burden of anger and hatred in order to find joy again following any tragedy. While the foundation of this story is sad, this Afterlife TV episode is both comforting and inspiring thanks to what Scarlett and Jesse Lewis have to teach us.
