Exactly one year ago today we did this podcast - and it was so I could invite my older brother Jeff to have a chat with us (he'd passed some years earlier).  It's fun to listen to because Jennifer didn't realize it was him at first until he reveals it to her. Also a conversation with a friend's mom who had recently passed - Lois Tracey - whose husband we had spoken to while he was in hospice care with dementia.  Spoken to, meaning we spoke to the "higher self" that was already "back home" - he said that 90% of his conscious energy was already home, but it was "like leaving a leg in the pool." When asked why, he said it was to wait until his grandchildren said goodbye. And later, I confirmed with his family that's what had happened.  So this is a conversation with a friend's mother who had recently passed and she confirmed a number of details that only I knew - as well as revealed some new information about the journey. But most of all, a shout out to my older brother - ten years apart - but born only six days apart on the calendar.  We had a pal pass away recently - and she knew all the folks in this podcast, so it's also for her benefit, or those pals of hers who may tune in. In this episode I'm talking to Barbara Bartolome about her two near death experiences.Barbara is a two time NDEr.  Her first NDE resulted from a childhood illness at 18 months of age, when a high fever caused her to go into convulsions and stop breathing, which resulted in cardiac arrest.  As the ambulance arrived outside their home, her parents and older siblings witnessed her spontaneously regain consciousness, after an 8-10 minute period without heart or lung activity. She was not informed of this early-life event until her siblings finally disclosed it, when she was 53 years old.Her second NDE occurred when she went into cardiac arrest due to a radiology technician's error during a pre-surgery diagnostic procedure in 1987, at St. Francis Hospital in Santa Barbara. Finding herself above the x-ray table, she watched the medical team's resuscitation efforts and experienced the presence of a magnificent spiritual being.  After being successfully resuscitated, she accurately recounted to the astonished medical team their individual comments and actions during the resuscitation, which was quite alarming to the team. Because her medical team and the hospital staff then strictly avoided discussing her experience with her, she rarely spoke about it for over twenty years, until she found the Near-Death Experience Research Foundation (www.nderf.org) in 2007 and the IANDS organization (www.iands.org) in 2009.These organizations helped to connect her to others who had experienced NDEs and they expanded her understanding of death and the survival of consciousness beyond death, allowing her to finally assimilate her experiences, as well as to understand their impact upon her life and worldview. She considers her NDEs as incredible gifts, deeply feeling that it is her life purpose to share what they teach with others.  Barbara founded IANDS Santa Barbara in August 2011 and is strongly committed to the IANDS organization's purpose in promoting responsible, multi-disciplinary exploration of near-death and similar experiences, examining their effects on people's lives, and their implications for the change to our beliefs about life, death, afterlife, consciousness, and human purpose. She serves as the IANDS designated Group Mentor to all IANDS groups in Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, Nevada, and Hawaii. Another mind bending podcast with Jennifer Shaffer and Rich Martini inviting Luana Anders and her clipboard to talk to us from the flipside. In today's edition, Amelia Earhart comes forward to talk about our appearance on Gaia's #BEYONDBELIEF the previous week where we spoke about her and the book SHE WAS NEVER LOST: THE AMELIA EARHART SAGA.  Then Heath Ledger stopped by, as he knows one of Jennifer's clients that she's speaking with this week.  I heard Robert Duvall's voice in my kitchen the other day, and wondered if he might want to speak. Since he worked with Sally Kellerman on the film MASH (directed by Robert Altman) I thought perhaps Robert or Sally's pal Bud Cort might stop by for a chat from the flipside. As it turned out "one of the two" was willing to take our speaker's chair and answer our questions. That was the acclaimed actor Robert Duvall - and as one can observe in the podcast, it was a long time before Jennifer realized who I was referring to. All of the folks that I asked about are either on the flipside, people that he worked with (Marlon Brando, Fred Roos, Robert Towne, etc) and I asked him if he had messages for some of his pals still on stage (Dustin Hoffman, Francis Coppola, his wife Luciana, etc.)  He recalled having lunch with me in a noisy cafe in Santa Fe (Luana and Gene Hackman were there as well.)   Again - the reason we do this podcast is to demonstrate how easy it is to speak to our loved ones offstage. They're eager and waiting to converse with us - and there are three methods one can use to learn new information from them. 1. Hypnotherapy. I recommend the four to six hour session as done by therapists trained by the Newton Institute. 2. Guided meditation. A person can open themselves up to a conversation using meditation. 3. Mediumship. People like Jennifer who work with law enforcement agencies daily, pro bono, so I know how effective she can be.  In this case, I have had conversations with, or talked to all of the people mentioned in this episode.  I've written and or directed 10 feature films - many have never heard or seen any of them, but either my relationship with Luana Anders, Charles Grodin, or the actors I've worked with before allows me to use the "six degrees of separation" idea to converse with them - or have our pal Luana Anders invite them for a conversation. I've been doing this now for two decades - I met Jennifer about 11 years ago, and we've been doing this weekly for all that time. Admir describes out-of-body experiences with clarity, combining his personal testimony with scientific references. But above all, he conveys the sense that we are not alone and that we are something more than we believe. Bio I am a Brazilian-American researcher, writer and lecturer on paranormal phenomena such as out-of-body experiences (OBEs), near-death experiences (NDEs), deathbed visions (DBVs), after- death communication (ADC), reincarnation, mediumship and the afterlife. And an unabashed believer in our survival of physical death and the immortality of the spirit. My interest in these subjects was triggered after I began having spontaneous OBEs, back in the year 2000, and I wanted to understand the phenomenon. Since then, I have had hundreds of lucid and amazing experiences which have proven to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that we are immortal beings. Aware of the sadness that death of a loved one can cause – and I have experienced it myself – I have made it my life's mission to spread the notion that there is no death, that only the body dies, and since we are not our body, we survive death – unscathed. For my own edification regarding the dynamics of physical death, I have worked as a hospice volunteer providing spiritual support to terminally ill patients as they waited for their time to cross over to the other side of life. And this is what death is, a change of worlds, the end of one mode of living, the physical, to the beginning of a spiritual existence. I have bachelor's degrees in psychology and liberal studies, and a master's in theology. I am an avid reader with a broad interest in world and religious history, anthropology, geography, world affairs, and the humanities. I have written five books in my native Portuguese language on death, dying and the afterlife, and two in English on related topics. I write and lecture in both languages, as well as Spanish, the third language I speak. This week I'm talking to Nancy Rynes about her Near Death Experience.Nancy Rynes was riding her bicycle when a large SUV approached. The vehicle's driver, absorbed in texting while driving, plowed right into Rynes.Suffering from severe spinal and head injuries, Rynes knew she was dying.
