In this episode of Punk Therapy, Dr. T and Truth Fairy open the year by exploring the concept of body set and its relevance to psychedelic therapy and medicine-assisted healing. Drawing on recent research and clinical observations, they expand the framework of set and setting to include the physiological state of the body as a critical part of how psychedelic medicine is received and processed. The conversation examines biomarkers such as autonomic nervous system tone and overall physiological resilience, while placing these factors within a broader trauma-informed context. The episode emphasizes that psychedelic experiences do not occur in isolation from the body, but interact with existing patterns of stress, survival, and adaptation.Truth Fairy brings a deeply somatic and relational perspective to the discussion, challenging purely biomedical interpretations of body set by highlighting interoception, attachment history, and developmental trauma. She explains how early disruptions in care shape a person's capacity for self-regulation and self-care, and how these patterns show up in preparation for and during psychedelic work. Through clinical examples, she illustrates how subtle somatic practices, movement, touch, and nervous system-oriented interventions can help clients come out of chronic contraction, freeze, or hypervigilance before a medicine session. Dr. T and Truth Fairy situate body set within an ethical and relational model of psychedelic therapy that prioritizes co-regulation and humility. They question outcome-driven approaches that seek peak experiences, instead focusing on an orientation toward optimal arousal, embodied presence, and collective nervous system regulation, particularly in group settings. They offer clinicians, facilitators, and researchers a nuanced framework for understanding how trauma, physiology, and relational safety intersect in psychedelic healing. The evolving science of psychedelic medicines necessarily includes trauma-informed psychedelic therapy, somatic healing, nervous system regulation, and ethical facilitation. “We can't just prepare the mind, and we can't just prepare the setting. You actually have to prepare the physiology of the body to receive medicine. Psychedelics affect our physiology. They can throw us into sympathetic arousal, so the question becomes how do we get the body ready to receive something that is already going to amplify what's there.” - Truth Fairy__Contact Punk Therapy:Patreon: Patreon.com/PunkTherapyWebsite: PunkTherapy.comEmail: info@punktherapy.com Contact Truth Fairy: Email: Truth@PunkTherapy.com Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Send a textWhat happens when the very tools meant to heal you—breathwork, yoga, mindfulness—become ways to silence your inner wisdom? In this deeply vulnerable conversation, I sit down with Devin Scott, founder of Find Your Meaning, a body-based coach, who shares his recent experience of ignoring his body's signals in a relationship—and what he has learned about "healing" from that experience. We recorded this episode in early December, just days after Devin went through a painful breakup. Instead of presenting a polished, "healed" version of himself, he brought his raw, real experience into our conversation—and what emerged is one of the most honest explorations of body wisdom, emotional intelligence, and the shadow side of "wellness" that I've ever had. This conversation will shift how you think about healing, emotions, and what it means to truly listen to yourself. What You'll Learn in This Episode:Why traditional healing systems often feel hollow—and how they can reinforce perfectionism and conformity instead of true transformationThe difference between resourcing and dissociating—how Devin used "healthy" practices like breathwork and yoga to silence his body's wisdom instead of listening to itWhy emotions aren't problems to solve—they're messages, evolutionary tools, and pathways to deeper wisdomHow body wisdom gets overridden—the cultural scripts that teach us to distrust our intuition and seek external validationThe philosophy of Lila—an ancient Indian concept that reframes life as "cosmic play" rather than a linear path to fix yourselfWhy you don't need to "win" at healing—and how the idea of becoming a "better version of yourself" can be self-punitiveWhen nervous system collapse is necessary—why sometimes you need to stop doing and just be with what isThe gaslighting embedded in systems—from workplaces to therapy, how we're taught that we are the problem, not the systemKey Themes:This episode explores the paradox of using healing modalities to avoid feeling, the courage it takes to trust your body when logic demands otherwise, and the radical idea that suffering might not be something to transcend—but something to experience fully as part of being human.Devin's honesty about his own recent heartbreak—and how he ignored his body's clear signals because he couldn't rationalize them—offers a powerful reminder that even those who teach this work are still learning it. We're all human. We all stumble. And vulnerability isn't weakness—it's where the real wisdom lives.About Devin Scott:Devin Scott is a body-based coach and facilitator who helps people reconnect with their inner wisdom and move through life with greater authenticity. In this profound talk from the Empowering Story Podcast, somatic expert Jean Dorf challenges the conventional wisdom around trauma recovery language. Discover why words like 'victim' and 'survivor' are not neutral labels but direct cues to your nervous system. Drawing from somatic work, lived experience, and his work with survivors, Jean offers a developmental perspective on how language can either support regulation or demand performance. This video is for anyone on a healing journey, therapists, and those supporting loved ones through trauma. You'll learn to listen to what your body truly needs, moving beyond the pressure to adopt a specific identity and toward a more authentic, integrated healing process. The goal isn't to choose the right label, but to understand when language stabilizes the body and when it creates hidden effort. Key Takeaways Language Is a Nervous System Cue: Words like 'victim' and 'survivor' aren't just descriptions; they interact directly with the body, telling it whether reality is being acknowledged or bypassed. The Risk of 'Performative Strength': Adopting 'survivor' language too early can lead to a state of containment through effort, characterized by tension and exhaustion, rather than the soft, expansive nature of authentic resilience. Oscillation Is a Sign of Maturation: Moving back and forth between feeling like a victim and a survivor is not confusion. It's a natural neurological process of renegotiating identity and testing capacity. Your Body Outgrows the Word: True empowerment isn't a conscious decision to change labels. It emerges when your body's capacity has grown, often signaled by spontaneous deep breaths and a lack of the need to prove your strength. "The body moves forward when it feels believed, not empowered, not reframed, believed." - Jean Dorff "True empowerment emerges when language follows capacity, not ideology. You don't decide to stop being a victim. Your body outgrows the word." - Jean Dorff #TraumaHealing #SomaticExperiencing #NervousSystemRegulation #TraumaRecovery

Send us a textWhat if the very moment that almost broke you… was the moment that built you?He watched his best friend get shot six times at 16… and no one asked him how he was doing. No therapist. No safe space. Just silence, street code, and survival. In this raw and powerful episode of Self Reflection Podcast, Robert Harrison shares how that moment shaped his mental health, triggered PTSD, and eventually led him to turn trauma into purpose through therapy and trauma-informed fitness. If you've ever carried pain in silence, struggled with a father wound, or wondered how to transform trauma into strength — this conversation is for you.Robert shares the life-altering event that shaped his path — witnessing his best friend being shot six times as a teenager and carrying that trauma in silence. No therapist. No safe space. Just hypervigilance, survival mode, and the unspoken weight of PTSD. In a culture that discouraged vulnerability, he learned to cope alone. But what could have hardened him instead awakened him. From that moment forward, Robert chose a different story. Now a trauma-informed therapist and founder of Define Our Fitness, he uses weightlifting as a tool to regulate the nervous system, rebuild confidence, and restore emotional balance. In this episode, he breaks down how physical discipline reshapes brain chemistry, strengthens identity, and creates space for healing — proving that movement isn't just about muscles… it's about reclaiming your mind. But the conversation goes deeper.Lira and Robert explore father wounds and generational trauma — what it means to forgive a parent who couldn't show up, how compassion doesn't excuse harm, and how breaking cycles requires awareness, discipline, and grace. They discuss addiction through a lens of empathy, the moral compass and mental health connection, and why living out of alignment with your values quietly erodes your inner peace.Robert also opens up about his time in law enforcement as a Black officer navigating systems that didn't fully accept him — and how choosing alignment over security changed the trajectory of his life. This episode is about responsibility without shame. Compassion without weakness. Strength without ego.It is about becoming the person you once needed. If you have ever wrestled with trauma, questioned your path, struggled with forgiveness, or felt out of alignment with who you truly are — this conversation will meet you there.Your past does not disqualify you.Your pain does not define you.Your struggle can still write a better ending.Healing is not passive. In this episode of An Evolving Man, I'm joined by Dr. Amy Albright, an expert in human potential who bridges neuroscience, health, business strategy, and spirituality with rare depth and academic rigour. We go deep into a theme that affects so many leaders — especially those shaped by early separation, boarding school, adoption, or childhood trauma: safety.Amy explains why safety is not a motivational slogan. It's a measurable state in the nervous system. When safety is missing, we overthink, disconnect from emotion, struggle with intimacy and leadership, and often reach for relief through work, alcohol, or constant striving. When safety is restored, intuition returns, relationships improve, and performance becomes far more sustainable. This is a powerful, practical conversation about rebuilding biological safety, restoring embodiment, and integrating science with the sacred without drifting into pseudoscience. We discuss:Why safety is a continuum, not a single achievementThe leadership cost of chronic fight/flight and emotional shutdownTrauma patterns behind addiction (including workaholism)Nature and water as nervous-system regulatorsWhy meditation can feel hard after trauma (and what helps)Embodiment, intuition, and the intelligence of the bodyA larger frame: meaning, miracles, and living in a “friendly universe”Find Dr. Amy's work and resources at: holonexperience.com (Free download mentioned in the episode is available there.)--- Piers is an author and a men's transformational coach and therapist who works mainly with trauma, boarding school issues, addictions and relationship problems. Why is there so much psychological and physical suffering in so-called developed societies? What if many of today's illnesses, anxieties, trauma and addictions are not personal failures, but intelligent responses to a world that asks us to disconnect from ourselves? Send us a textWhat happens when modern neuroscience, ancient plant medicine, and spiritual self-awareness collide? In this powerful conversation, Joey Pinz sits down with Dr. Leah Linder—naturopathic physician, reverend, and co-founder of Setas Seminary—to explore how psilocybin mushrooms are being used responsibly, ethically, and intentionally to support healing from trauma, PTSD, anxiety, addiction, and cognitive decline.Leah breaks down the actual science behind psilocybin—how it reduces neuroinflammation, stimulates brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), and helps the brain form new neural pathways—while also explaining why integration and nervous system regulation matter far more than the ceremony itself. You'll also hear why psilocybin became a Schedule I substance, how federal religious protections allow safe access today, and why healing isn't about being “fixed,” but about learning to listen to your body and rewrite old stories. This episode is grounded, thoughtful, and eye-opening—perfect for anyone curious about the future of mental wellness, consciousness, and sustainable personal growth.
"Healing is not about improvement of daily functionalities or reduction of symptoms. Healing is deeply relational, cultural, and it's a political act." - Yukako Sortino On this episode of Transforming Trauma, host Emily Ruth welcomes Yukako Sortino, Manager of the Refugee Behavioral Wellness Program at Heartland Alliance Health, for a profoundly moving dialogue on trauma, resilience, and relational healing within refugee and immigrant communities. Drawing from her work in Chicago and her lived experience as an immigrant, Yukako invites listeners to reconsider healing as a collective, nonlinear journey that honors dignity, body, identity, and culture. Yukako illuminates the "triple trauma paradigm"—pre-migration, migration, and post-migration trauma—emphasizing how experiences of displacement and systemic oppression are woven into the fabric of everyday life for many refugees and immigrants. She shares how the NeuroAffective Relational Model® (NARM®) influences her approach as a relational lens, not a rigid method—prioritizing paced, attuned presence, honoring survival adaptations, and centering co-regulation before self-regulation. Through a vivid case study and reflection, she illustrates how micro-interventions, group-based and somatic supports, and culturally rooted practices restore agency and belonging amid ongoing adversity. The conversation also highlights the structural barriers and burnout faced by providers, advocating for rest as an ethical imperative and collective care as essential resistance. Listeners are called to see beyond clinical outcomes, to foster authentic community, and to recognize the vital role of therapist self-care and sustainability. How can healthcare professionals transform burnout and trauma into a revitalized life and practice? In this special episode of Heartline: Changemaking in Healthcare, Dr. Andrea Austin reads from her book Revitalized, focusing on the chapter "The Revitalization." She reflects on her own soul-level burnout at the end of the pandemic, sharing a formula for change: inflection point + inner work + clarity = revitalization. Drawing from personal experiences and expert insights, she emphasizes embracing the past's pain as part of growth, avoiding trauma loops, and intentionally "doing the work" for self-improvement.You'll hear how to:Recognize burnout as a chronic issue requiring inner reflection, not just quick fixes, and frame it as an opportunity for revitalization beyond "bouncing back."Differentiate top-down therapies (like CBT and talk therapy) from bottom-up approaches (like EMDR, somatic experiencing, and art therapy) for trauma healing, especially in high-stress fields like medicine.Understand coaching as a future-focused partnership for unlocking potential, while knowing when to seek therapy first, given high rates of PTSD (40%) and depression (30%) among healthcare workers.Navigate "VUCA" (volatility, uncertainty, complexity, ambiguity) in healthcare, including life quakes like job loss or health crises, and avoid maladaptive coping like overconsumption or addictions.Build vulnerability in hard conversations, reflect on perfectionism, and beware predatory coaching programs while prioritizing ethical, supportive resources. If you're a healthcare professional grappling with burnout, trauma, or the desire for more fulfillment, this episode offers empathetic guidance, reflective questions, and actionable steps to craft your own revitalization.

Send us a textWelcome back to today's podcast, a place where we share stories of awakenings—those moments when life disrupts the script and invites us into deeper truth, healing, and courage.Today's conversation is especially timely and tender. My guest is Susan Reedy, a Marriage and Family Therapist who specializes in trauma recovery and resiliency. Susan works with people navigating grief and loss, traumatic experiences, life transitions, and anxiety—and she also trains other therapists in the skills of trauma-informed care, including the Trauma Resiliency Model.Susan's own story includes powerful awakenings: growing up in the Worldwide Church of God under Herbert W. Armstrong, the long work of de-programming from religious control, and her early work with traumatized children. We'll talk openly about religious trauma, a theme that shows up often on this podcast, and connect it to broader cultural and political stress many of us are carrying right now. We'll also revisit the Altadena fires—how quickly they spread, the scope of destruction, and the deeply human stories of loss that followed. Along the way, Susan helps us understand what trauma is, why trauma therapy matters, and what healing and wellness can actually look like after everything falls apart.SHOW NOTESSupport the showBecome a Patron - Click on the link to learn how you can become a Patron of the show. Trauma. It seems like we hear about it everywhere these days. But what does the Bible say about it? In this episode, Haley and Dustin provide a biblical and lay-level understanding of the basics of trauma – what it is, what it is not, and how it's different from everyday stress and pain. They also explore how trauma can impact us in different ways and also highlight biblical characters and stories where trauma played a significant role—reminding us that pain and suffering are not foreign to the story of God's people. They offer a helpful framework from Dr. Marcus Warner* on how to bring God into your pain. Whether you're walking through trauma yourself or seeking to better understand and support others, this episode offers a biblical perspective on making sense of our pain with encouragement to find healing through God's Word. *See episode 78 with Dr. Marcus Warner, “Understanding the Wounded Heart" for more helpful discussion on trauma. Two kids. Ages one and four. Alone in the house with their dead parents.Tonight we're processing the aftermath of the Tepe murders with psychotherapist Shavaun Scott. The children are now orphans. Over a thousand people came to the funeral. A family is shattered. And hanging over everything is the question we can't escape: Monique did everything right — recognized the danger, left quickly, told people, moved on, built a new life — and she's still dead. What does that mean for how we talk about domestic violence survival?Shavaun Scott has spent over thirty years in trauma recovery. She believes in healing. But she's also honest about hard truths. Tonight we're discussing how young children process loss they can't understand. We're exploring survivor's guilt in families who knew she was afraid but couldn't stop this. We're asking what healing actually looks like — or whether it's just learning to carry the weight. And we're confronting the question no one wants to answer: if doing everything right still isn't enough, what actually protects victims?Part 3 of our three-part series. "As children, we have a need, a very deep need to be acknowledged, to feel seen, and for somebody, a caregiver, to reflect back to us that value that specialness, that thing that you are, that no one else is."Welcome to 2026, a new cycle, a new energy, and a profound invitation to reclaim your consciousness. In this episode of Punk Therapy, hosts Dr. T and the Truth Fairy dive into a timely discussion on psychedelic therapy, recovered memories, and trauma healing, sparked by recent media coverage of an MDMA-assisted therapy memoir. They are joined by Dr. B and Miss T, two experienced guests working in trauma treatment and underground psychedelic facilitation. Together, they examine the neuroscience of memory, the difference between explicit memory and body-held trauma, and explore why attempting to “retrieve” memories, especially in an altered state, can be misleading and potentially harmful. A main topic Truth and Dr. T focus on with their guests is ethics in psychedelic and underground therapy, particularly when working in altered states where clients are highly vulnerable. Dr. B and Miss T discuss the risks of actively searching for memories during psychedelic sessions, increased suggestibility, and the importance of trauma-informed, somatic, and nervous-system-aware approaches. They highlight how ethical practice goes beyond rigid rules, instead requiring embodied empathy, clear boundaries, practitioner self-work, and ongoing reflection. This is especially important when navigating power dynamics, touch, attachment, and integration in long-form medicine work. The discussion addresses the broader cultural and social implications of trauma narratives, including public belief versus skepticism and truth-telling in a society that often minimizes or dismisses abuse. While acknowledging scientific uncertainty around recovered memories, Truth Fairy and Dr. T advocate for compassionate listening and ethical restraint, alongside responsible storytelling. Higher standards of care and practitioner training are required, and a more nuanced public understanding of psychedelic healing and trauma recovery is essential as the field continues to evolve.“We can leave the memory in an ambiguous zone and still do the work of healing. We don't need to legitimize it with certainty.” - Dr. B__ Contact Punk Therapy:Patreon: Patreon.com/PunkTherapyWebsite: PunkTherapy.comEmail: info@punktherapy.com Contact Truth Fairy: Email: Truth@PunkTherapy.com Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. When you are an adult child of emotional neglect, or were raised in an alcoholic, narcissistic, or unpredictable home, you are not aware of how your brain wires the nervous system to be locked in survival mode. Daughters and sons of toxic parents learned to survive through hypervigilance, scanning the faces, moods, and body movements of those around them. This type of scanning, codes the brain for survival and fear anticipation. The problem is, adult children from abusive, neglectful or toxic homes do not know this has occurred. From within the ego system, the little self assumes that what it feels, anticipates and experiences is all there is. This is why so many well meaning, and fully committed adult children who seek inner growth, personal development and healing, are baffled by why they feel so stuck. Being prepared saves your brain energy, but when you are emotionally wounded in childhood, you do not know how your brain keeps you stuck in survival, and unable to escape, thereby locking you into loops of self sabotaging behaviors regardless of how often you hear your conscious mind screaming for something new and improved. You'll learn: • Why trauma trains the brain to predict danger (and pick the same partners/jobs) • How insecure attachment, fawning & people-pleasing sabotage manifestation • The role of the default mode network, metacognition & observer consciousness • Practical tools to down-regulate, update your "inner algorithm," and choose new codes • How to trust divine intuition without bypassing the science Next step Start healing your inner child today with Lisa's 12 Week Breakthrough Program. From Self-Sabotage to Soul Purpose | Healing the Inner Saboteur & the Witch WoundIn this episode of The Activate Change Podcast, Gabrielli guides a live healing session with Paula, a lifelong helper who feels called to step into her soul purpose — but finds herself blocked by self-sabotage, perfectionism, and imposter syndrome.Together, they explore how the inner saboteur often forms as a survival response to early childhood conditioning, ancestral trauma, and even past-life memories connected to the witch wound. As Paula traces the instinct to stay small and quiet, deeper fears around visibility, power, and safety begin to surface.Through somatic awareness, energy healing, and intuitive guidance, Paula starts to release the belief that her gifts are dangerous. What unfolds is a profound moment of healing and remembrance — reclaiming her voice, self-trust, and the knowing that her intuition and light are not something to hide, but something to live from. This episode is for anyone navigating self-doubt, imposter syndrome, fear of being seen, trauma healing, spiritual awakening, or the desire to live in alignment with their true purpose.✨ Inside this episode:• How self-sabotage and the inner saboteur are often rooted in trauma, not failure• Healing imposter syndrome through nervous system regulation and embodiment• Understanding the witch wound and fear of visibility in spiritual and intuitive people• How childhood messages and past-life trauma shape self-worth and confidence• Reclaiming intuition, voice, and soul purpose through mind-body healing• A reminder that your light is not dangerous — it's essential------------------------------------------------
