Scarlett Lewis Choose Love Movement: Turning Tragedy into Triumph Scarlett Lewis founded Choose Love Movement after her son, Jesse, was murdered during the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy in December 2012. It is one of the worst mass shootings in U.S. history. At six years old, Jesse, alongside 19 of his first-grade classmates and six educators, died. Yet law enforcement says Jesse used his final moments to heroically save nine of his friends. Shortly after his death, Scarlett decided to be part of the solution to the issues that we're seeing in our society today—and that also caused the tragedy. She created the Choose Love Movement and became an advocate for character development and social and emotional learning (SEL), which teaches children how to manage their emotions, feel connected, and have healthy relationships. Before his death, Jesse left a message on their kitchen chalkboard, “Norturting Helinn Love” (Nurturing, Healing Love). When Scarlett learned that these words are included in the definition of “compassion” across all cultures, she realized that love, connection, and belonging are universal wants and needs that connect all of humanity. https://chooselovemovement.org/ With the guidance of Christopher Kukk, PhD, Dean of the Cormier Honors College for Citizen Scholars and Professor of Political Science at Longwood University, a Fulbright Scholar and author of “The Compassionate Achiever,” these three words led to the creation of a formula that can be used by anyone, at any time, anywhere in the world to manage their response to any situation. The Choose Love Formula™ is: Courage + Gratitude + Forgiveness + Compassion in Action = Choosing Love These four character values are easy to learn. When practiced, they strengthen the health and resilience of individuals, improve the community and culture of groups and promote a safer, more peaceful and loving world. The Choose Love Formula™ is the foundation of our next-generation Social & Emotional Learning and Character Education programming that was originally created for schools, but has quickly spread into homes, communities and the workplace to strengthen connection and promote a more peaceful, loving world. ENCORE PRESENTATION: Scarlett Lewis is back in the Café with Joy and Dan. Scarlett is the author of “Nurturing Healing Love” a mother’s journey of Hope and Forgiveness. Scarlett is the mother of Jesse Lewis and founder of The Jesse Lewis Choose Love Foundation, and a new activist for peace. After losing her son in the Sandy Hook Shooting Tragedy, Scarlett says: “The blessing in tragedy is that it can break open your heart to allow you to see things more clearly. Priorities crystalize, insignificant feelings and things fall away and a realization dawns that all you might be left with is love, and that is ok. My experience has shown me that there is a greater plan and that faith is an essential part of acceptance and even progress. I am able to see now there are other ways to live, ways that are in service to others. The true meaning of compassion is not only identifying with someone's pain but also doing something to help ease that pain. When you put love in action, a miracle happens. It comes back to you in ways unimaginable.” Scarlett will talk about her personal growth experiences, what’s new with the Foundation and her recent trip to Byron Bay, Australia, where she attended the “Uplift Festival” whose mission statement is: Upliftment for all. http://upliftconnect.com/ Angel Blessings Joy & Dan

SCARLETT LEWIS: "I’m so very excited about this Afterlife TV episode with Scarlett Lewis, because there’s so many jewels to take away from it. Scarlett lost her six-year-old son, Jesse, in the Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting in Newtown, CT. In spite of this horrifying tragedy, Scarlett’s story is filled with powerful after-death communications (ADCs) and signs of precognitive knowing (when someone subconsciously knows about their impending death). "What’s even more amazing is that Scarlett Lewis learned how to choose thoughts of love instead of anger, hatred or fear, which she shares with us to use in our own lives. And only a short time after the shooting, Scarlett was able to forgive her son’s killer, and her example teaches us how to shed the burden of anger and hatred in order to find joy again following any tragedy. While the foundation of this story is sad, this Afterlife TV episode is both comforting and inspiring thanks to what Scarlett and Jesse Lewis have to teach us. You really don’t want to miss this special episode.” ~ Bob Olson, Afterlife TV SHOW NOTES: Photographs mentioned in interview (click each to enlarge--opens new window): SCARLETT LEWIS' WEBSITE: http://www.jesselewischooselove.org JT Lewis’ website (Scarlett’s other son): http://www.newtownhelpsrwanda.org SCARLETT LEWS' BOOK: Nurturing Healing Love: A Mother's Journey of Hope and Forgiveness CLICK HERE TO PURCHASE (paperback).
