This is a preview of a bonus episode. Find the whole thing at our reasonably priced patreon! This week, we talk to independent film producer, director and actor Jonathan Daniel Brown. Based in LA, you may know him from his acting roles in Kid Cannabis and Project X, or as a former co-host of the podcast Struggle Session. We talk to Jonathan about his early experiences trolling on forums, his early introduction to cinema via rental stores, and the ways the industry has changed as a result of streaming services determining what films get made and distributed. We also talk about the legacy of Project X, and how the film can be seen as depicting a long-gone era of social media, in which platforms were used to organise and enhance real life social experiences. Jonathan Daniel Brown has lived a full and bizarre life for only being 28. He starred in the R-rated comedy PROJECT X, which landed him a niche but devoted fanbase, but didn't exactly lead to a sustainable career. We talked about his experiences working in the movies, how he came to leave acting, and how he eventually had to say goodbye to his fans.
This week we review the year 2017 with Jonathan Daniel Brown from the great podcast Struggle Session. 2017 suffered from poor writing throughout - the villains were cartoonish and there was no obvious hero character. The plot was over-reliant on a series of unrealistic legislative showdowns. The low quality CGI barely masked the fact that the majority of 2017 was filmed in Toronto. We also talk about some of the bright spots!
