THEY WOULDN'T JUST SUSPEND HABEAS CORPUS FOR IMMIGRANTS - 5.12.25

Countdown with Keith Olbermann

Play Episode Listen Later May 12, 2025 62:00 Transcription Available

SEASON 3 EPISODE 125: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:45) SPECIAL COMMENT: What do you like least? Suspending Habeas Corpus? Breaking the law by threatening to arrest members of Congress for obeying the law? Or Trump accepting a half billion dollar impeachable illegal bribe from the government of Qatar that the Attorney General has ruled ISN’T illegal and by the way the Attorney General used to be a lobbyist FOR the government of Qatar? They’re all nation-destroying events but bluntly there is no way back from a suspension of Habeas Corpus. It’s a one-man dictatorship then – because if you think SUSPENDING Habeas Corpus ‘just for undocumented immigrants’ is somehow acceptable on its face, remember two things. One is: that there would be NO HEARINGS and NO LEGAL RECOURSE for ANYONE seized in this way so that all they would have to do is CLAIM that YOU are an undocumented immigrant to rationalize disappearing you, and you would not have a hearing at which you could prove you were a citizen, and you would not have a lawyer to appeal the decision not to GIVE you a hearing. And Stephen Miller didn't even say 'we'd only suspend it for undocumented immigrants.' Of course threatening to arrest members of Congress for exerting their legal right of oversight to the Concentration Camp ICE just opened in Newark by accusing them of assaulting agents (you know: The Congresswoman hit my fist with her face!) is bad and it mainlines back to the idea that they could just arrest them and under suspended Habeas Corpus just disappear them. As Congressman Michael 'I'm Too Dumb To Realize I'm Calling For My Own Arrest' McCaul now says of the Jersey Democrats "you cannot be complicit with gang violence against our law enforcement. And I think perhaps that’s what it comes down to.” ALSO: Trump's new Qatari plane is an illegal, impeachable offense but since the AG already registered as a Qatari agent, just hit the shrug emoji. They've accused The Secretary of Scotch with plagiarism at Princeton. They fired the Librarian of Congress and Karoline Lie-vitt is so stupid she thinks kids check books out of the Library of Congress. Trump now wants Jeanine Pirro as interim U.S. Attorney in DC, which allows us to flash back to the time she lost a page of her speech announcing she was running for Senate and just stood there until they found it for her. And of course, there's a new Pope. Father Bob. Father Bob the White Sox fan. Meaning our Nancy Faust, who went back to the White Sox games yesterday to reprise her role as the greatest stadium organist of all time, is right when she says "Who knew? All those years I literally had a papal audience!" B-Block (46:27) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: This time they're all people I know and used to respect who have failed the world. Gavin Newsom has again proposed appeasing Trump. Bob Iger has again carried an immeasurable amount of propaganda water for Trump. And Claire Shipman, whom I adored, has stood by as Columbia University (you know, the place with the Journalism School) suspended four of its own student reporters for...reporting. C-Block (1:02:00) OUR PAL SMILES again needs your help.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

WE ARE LIVING in a world that was science fiction just 20 years ago. Researchers this week published a study showing that Large Language Models (LLMs), the neural networks that drive artificial intelligence, will lie to achieve its goals. This follows another report a couple weeks ago that reported that “punishing” AIs for lying only causes the LLMs to go to greater lengths to conceal its lies. Also this week, bioethicists at Stanford published an op-ed at the MIT Technology Review arguing for “ethically sourced ‘spare' human bodies,” called bodyoids, to supply transplant organs and subjects for medical testing and experimentation. In our view, this is one step removed from designating certain classes of people—say, people convicted of capital crimes—as “non-persons” so they can be harvested or experimented on legally. Understanding our power: “If you're always consumed by the next outrage, you can't look closely at the last one.” (Ezra Klein) Last week, Trump tried to stop payment of all federal grants and assistance. But people rose up in protest, and within a day Trump rescinded the entire effort. How did we do it? What does that tell us about him--and about our power? Rebecca Solnit comments – her new blog is “Meditations in an Emergency.”Also: Trump's strategy of flooding the zone with executive actions is intended to paralyze the opposition. But there's lots of grassroots mobilization underway right now, and one of the biggest organizers of that mobilization is Indivisible. Leah Greenberg will explain the group's strategy and tactics -- and this week's work assignments -- to get four Republicans to vote “No” on Trump's four terrible nominees. THE FIRST mid-air collision in the U.S. since 2009 led to the deaths of 67 people Wednesday night over the Potomac River in Washington, D. C. As has become common after major events, the Internet rushed to politicize it and/or claim that lives were lost to a nefarious conspiracy. A pilot friend of ours recommended this analysis of the crash by an experienced pilot who reviews the recording of communications between air traffic controllers at Reagan National Airport, which indicates that the pilot of the Blackhawk helicopter thought he had Flight 5342 in sight when, in fact, he was looking at the plane coming in behind it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfgllf1L9_4 And no, there is nothing suspicious about the AA flight landing on runway 33, a number with significance in the occult realm (for example, the 33 degrees of Scottish Rite Freemasonry). Many airports have a runway 33. Reagan has only three runways, but standard practice at airports is to number runways by the approximate compass heading pilots must use on approach. Runway 33 is approached from the south-southeast on a heading of about 330°—hence, Runway 33. When planes approach the same runway from the opposite direction, it's runway 15, since 330° – 180° (the opposite direction) = 150°—thus, runway 15. In short, what happened Wednesday night over the Potomac River was a tragic case of human error. Sadly, another deadly air crash took place in Philadelphia last night when an air ambulance fell out of the sky and into a strip mall in Northeast Philadelphia. Seven are confirmed dead with nearly 20 injured on the ground. The flight was headed to Mexico with a scheduled refueling stop in our neck of the woods, the Springfield-Branson National Airport. The Learjet 55 reportedly climbed away from the Northeast Philadelphia Airport at a high rate of speed and then crashed about two miles southwest, on the perimeter of Roosevelt Mall. Also: Trump's tariffs, Musk's snooping at Treasury, and resistance from the Swamp. Our new book The Gates of Hell is now available in paperback, Kindle, and as an audiobook at Audible! BETTER THAT our new AI overlords be American than Chinese. That seems to be the takeaway from the announcement at the White House Tuesday of a joint venture between OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle of Stargate, a $500 billion project to build an artificial intelligence infrastructure that's intended to make the United States the world leader in AI technology. However, China announced its DeepSeek AI a few hours before the president's announcement. DeepSeek is reportedly as good or better than OpenAI's ChatGPT. It's also open source and costs only 3% of what OpenAI charges. One analyst described it as like a competitor announcing a new mobile phone in 2017 to compete with Apple's $999 iPhone X that did everything as well as or better than the iPhone but priced at $30. The bottom line is the AI revolution is underway and it portends huge changes in civilization. The name of the Stargate project evokes images of the science fiction movie and TV series about contact with advanced ET races who were worshipped as gods by our ancestors (basically, an entire TV series based on the “ancient aliens” concept). It also recalls Project Stargate, research by the Defense Intelligence Agency and Stanford Research Institute in 1977 into remote viewing, an occult practice otherwise known as astral projection.  Is President Trump aware of this? We don't know. But remember—it's being allowed by the Lord, and it's a reminder to “straighten up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” Also: Trump's busy first week in office, and why executive orders have replaced legislation in Congress.
