Juni dieses Jahres führte Trump ein Telefongespräch mit dem israelischen Ministerpräsidenten Benjamin Netanyahu. Die beiden Männer, die schon seit Trumps erster Präsidentschaft eine enge Freundschaft verbindet, einigten sich darauf, dass Israel am folgenden Freitag dem Dreizehnten den Iran angreifen werde. Dem Iran sollte allerdings über die diplomatischen Kanäle signalisiert werden, dass vor einem Scheitern der Verhandlungen zwischen den USA und dem Iran über eine nukleare Abrüstung des Mitteloststaates definitiv nicht mit einem militärischen Angriff Israels zu rechnen sei.
