Tinnitus care is no longer just about masking sound—it's about treating the whole person. This week, Shari Eberts speaks with Dr. Maren Stropahl, Senior Director of Holistic Hearing Care and Head of Audiology for Sonova's retail organization, about why tinnitus requires a broader, more integrated approach.Dr. Stropahl explains that tinnitus is not simply an “ear problem,” but a complex interaction between auditory perception, emotional response, stress, and lifestyle factors. The discussion explores the brain's role in tinnitus distress, the concept of the vicious circle, and why habituation is possible when care moves beyond sound alone. The conversation highlights how modern tinnitus management brings together hearing aids, sound therapy, cognitive behavioral strategies, digital therapeutics, and—critically—education and counseling. Technology can support relief, but effective care depends on trained professionals who understand how to personalize treatment and empower patients with self-management tools. The message is clear: tinnitus care is evolving. When clinicians combine evidence-based technology with holistic counseling and data-informed strategies, patients no longer have to hear that “nothing can be done.”For more on the SilentCloud app, visit: https://silentcloud.comFor more details on Phonak's hearing aid portfolio, visit: https://www.phonak.comBe sure to subscribe to our channel for the latest episodes each week and follow This Week in Hearing on LinkedIn, Instagram and X.- https://x.com/WeekinHearing- https://www.instagram.com/thisweekinhearing/- https://www.linkedin.com/company/this-week-in-hearingVisit us at: https://hearinghealthmatters.org/thisweek/
Sneaker History Podcast - Sneakers, Sneaker Culture and the Business of Footwear
Andrew Dutton, better known as @ad__sneaks on Instagram, has built one of the most recognizable sneaker photography accounts anywhere online. Hundreds of thousands of followers. Features from Complex. Brand invitations to NBA All-Star Weekend. And a coffee table book, The Art of the Sneaker, releasing March 24th , that nobody saw coming... including him.Nick and Andy get into how a digital media teacher from rural Idaho turned a COVID-era passion project into a published photography book, what it actually looks like behind the scenes of those perfectly lit shots, and why "trying is cool" might be the most important creative philosophy nobody is talking about enough. They also get into the The Gathering experience and what it means to find your people in a culture that's increasingly fragmented across algorithms, how sneakers have always been a connector more than a commodity, and why the work behind the photo matters just as much as the photo itself. If you've ever thought about turning your passion into something bigger, this one's for you.The Art of the Sneaker is available for pre-order now at Andy's Instagram bio and will be available at Barnes & Noble, Amazon, and bookstores everywhere on March 24th.Subscribe to the Newsletter: https://ww.thesneakernewsletter.comSUPPORT THE SHOW:Donate Through Venmo: https://venmo.com/u/sneakerhistoryBuy Me A Coffee: https://buymeacoffee.com/nickengvallEarly Access, Exclusive Videos, and Content On Patreon: https://patreon.com/sneakerhistoryIf you are interested in advertising to our audience, contact us: podcast@sneakerhistory.comCHECK OUT OUR OTHER SHOWS:For the Formula 1 Fans - Exhaust Notes: https://exhaustnotes.fmFor the Fitted Hat Fans - Crown and Stitch: https://crownandstitch.comFor the Cars & Sneakers Fans - Cars & Kicks: https://carsxkicks.comFor the Creators & Creatives - Outside The Box: https://podcasts.apple.com/id/podcast/outside-the-box-convos-with-creators/id1050172106[Links contain affiliate links; we may receive a small commission if you purchase after clicking a link. Today, I am joined by Robin Singh of Peepal Farm. An ex-hacker and ex-techie, Robin today runs Peepal Farm, an animal rescue and awareness organization that helps animals heal and be heard. He lives on-site in a mud house, grows his own food and brews and sells Kombucha. His bumpy career start in 1997-hacking Internet accounts and selling bootleg CDs-had landed surprisingly smoothly, when a misspelled e-mail landed him a job in the US in 2003. That same year, he started a technology service that helped tens of thousands independent artists sell their digital goods directly to consumers. In 2010, with all the checkboxes checked on the societal template, he had a crisis of meaning of sorts, and he came back to India to try and be happy perpetually. It was his pursuit of happiness that put him on the path to purpose. Did Abnormal Refraction Doom The Titanic? In this powerful and thought-provoking episode of Review It Yourself, Sean sits down with renowned historian, author and TV presenter Tim Maltin to explore one of the most compelling alternative explanations behind the sinking of RMS Titanic — the Abnormal Refraction Theory.Drawing from his ground-breaking research in Titanic: A Very Deceiving Night, Tim explains how rare atmospheric conditions on 14 April 1912 may have distorted visibility in the North Atlantic. Could a natural optical illusion have delayed iceberg warnings, confused distress signals, and changed history forever? If you're searching for Titanic history, Titanic iceberg theories, or scientific explanations behind the Titanic disaster — this episode delivers evidence, clarity, and serious debate.A Deceptive Night in the North AtlanticMost Titanic discussions focus on speed, lifeboat numbers, or Captain Smith's decisions. But Tim Maltin's research introduces a fascinating scientific dimension:What is abnormal atmospheric refraction? How can mirage effects alter visibility at sea?Did false horizons hide the iceberg? Were distress rockets misinterpreted due to optical distortion?Could this explain the mysterious “nearby ship” debate?Blending maritime history, meteorology and survivor testimony, this episode re-examines one of history's most analysed disasters with fresh, data-driven insight.Whether you're a Titanic enthusiast, maritime historian, or fan of investigative book discussions, this is essential listening.About Tim MaltinTim Maltin is a leading British historian specialising in maritime history and the RMS Titanic. In this episode of “All Things Endurance Podcast,” host Rick Prince chats with Sid Garza-Hillman, an ultrarunner, author, nutritionist, and ultra race director. Sid discusses the mental barrier many people experience when thinking about participating in an ultramarathon, as well as how training for and racing an ultramarathon can change one's perspective on life for the better.Below are the specific areas that Rick and Sid chat about during this episode: Could you tell our listeners a bit more about yourself? What was the catalyst for writing your book?Do you find that most “normal” people don't think they can do an ultramarathon? What are some life lessons that training for and competing in an ultramarathon teaches? What are some of the key factors that make ultrarunning (especially trail ultrarunning) different from road running? How does a “normal” person with a job, family, etc., find time to train for an ultra? You note in your book that finishers of ultras often realize that they are capable of more than they ever imagined. Do you feel that, for many people, participating in an ultra is a life-enhancer?At UESCA's ultrarunning conference, the sense of community and camaraderie was palpable. Do you find that the sense of community is just as important, if not more important, than the running aspect for many ultrarunners? If someone is thinking of running an ultra, what are several reasons they should go for it?You noted that you had a positive shift in your life due to ultrarunning. Could you explain more about this?To learn more about Sid and his book, Ultrarunning for Normal People, please visit: www.sidgarzahillman.comFor $75 off a UESCA certification, use code ATE75
We've done whisky specials before but here we are, back with another. Why? There are always plenty of mighty fine whiskies to shout about. Besides, why the hell not?We start with two whiskies born and raised in the US. One is the result of two actor friends who bonded over their love of the spirit so much they decided to create their own, aptly called Brother's Bond Straight Bourbon Whiskey. The other is also the result of two bright minds coming together: this time it's Sirdavis created by Dr Bill Lumsden and Queen B herself, the one and only Beyoncé Knowles-Carter.Our book is a glorious road trip journal across Japan in which renowned whisky expert Dave Broom shares his very personal observations of the spirit and place in 'The Japanese Way of Whisky'.. And while we're on the subject of travel, there's certainly a whisky-based cocktail or two on the menu at Shakerato, the new bar in Amsterdam from the team behind Mexico City's award-winning Handshake bar.And then there's our guest, the fabulous Georgie Bell-Leoni, who has been evangelising about her favourite spirit, whisky, for over 15 years. She tells us about sourcing whiskies for her company, The Heart Cut, talks about how to fully appreciate them and guides us through a tasting of one of the bottlings on offer from her award-winning company The Heart Cut.For more from The Cocktail Lovers, visit thecocktaillovers.comFor the products featured in this episode, see websites below:What we're drinking:Matcha HighballBy Jason Patz, from Food & Wine Magazine60ml Japanese whisky (we used Hibiki)15ml honey water15ml freshly squeezed lemon juice1/4 tsp Matcha powderChilled Club Soda to topLemon wheel to garnishMethod:Chill Collins glasses. Grammy®-nominated, BRIT Award-winning, Scottish singer songwriter KT Tunstall graces this week's podcast to introduce us to her growing pack of dogs. Her current dog family started with Mini, a 7 year old miniature Pinscher who famously introduced KT to her future husband Chris who was at a dog park with Nova, a 5 year old half Husky, half Eskimo dog. From there they got KT's dream dog Flow, a 2.5 year old Irish Wolfhound, Bran an 8 month old Wolfhound, and charming his way into the family from a neighbors is a Red Heeler appropriately named Otis Reddish. With five dogs comes plenty of stories and insights we were more than happy to be an audience for.You can find KT on the road this week playing a four night stand at the Egyptian Theater in Salt Lake City, Utah from March 4th through the 7th. Sneaker History Podcast - Sneakers, Sneaker Culture and the Business of Footwear
Amado Rodriguez Jr. started his blog, The Official Encyclopedia Sneakérica, with one goal... to do for sneakers what Encyclopedia Britannica did for everything else. No hype. No "buy it now" buttons. Just the deep cuts, the real history, and the stuff that gets lost when everybody's chasing the algorithm. He's @SneakerProfiler on Instagram, a B-boy whose parents came from Puerto Rico, a military veteran who ran constantly during his time in the Army, and a marathon runner who might know more about the ZX Series than most people at adidas right now.We talked for a long time over video. He had shoes. A lot of them. Here are some of the places we went.Amado traced the entire modern running shoe back through the Osaga cantilever outsole, the dual-density foam on the SL 72, and the torsion system in the ZX 1000, making the case that most of what we consider revolutionary in 2015 was figured out in 1972. He held each one up to the camera to prove it. He also showed off a Wales Bonner SL 72, an adidas Rivalry 414 collab from a Milwaukee shop, a Saucony Jazz 81 he wore the day his daughter was born, and an Osaga that the brand's founder's grandson sent him.We got into the ZX 8000 and the AZX collaboration series, and why adidas doesn't do enough to connect the dots between their performance history and the retro shoes sitting on boutique walls right now. We talked about Jacques Chassaing and why someone needs to keep crediting him, because he's too humble to do it himself. And we talked about Bad Bunny at the Super Bowl... not the shoes specifically, but the moment, and what it meant for people who understood the full context of what was happening on that field. This is one of those conversations where the shoes are almost beside the point. Almost. In this episode: The NBA knockoff shoes that started everything. What Puma Suedes have to do with b-boy culture. Why the Osaga cantilever outsole from 1976 feels better than most shoes made today. The ZX Series as the skeleton of every running shoe that came after it. Jacques Chassaing and what adidas owes him. Why brand copywriting for sneakers is just a "brick of text" most of the time. Bad Bunny, Residente, and why adidas going quiet during the Super Bowl halftime show might have been the right call after all. And why the stories being built now, the blogs, the podcasts, the substacks, are the encyclopedia that the sneaker world actually needs.Find Amado: Instagram: @SneakerProfiler Blog: The Official Encyclopedia SneakéricaSUPPORT THE SHOW:Donate Through Venmo: https://venmo.com/u/sneakerhistoryBuy Me A Coffee: https://buymeacoffee.com/nickengvallEarly Access, Exclusive Videos, and Content On Patreon: https://patreon.com/sneakerhistorySubscribe on Substack: https://substack.com/@sneakerhistoryIf you are interested in advertising to our audience, contact us: podcast@sneakerhistory.comCHECK OUT OUR OTHER SHOWS:For the Formula 1 Fans - Exhaust Notes: https://exhaustnotes.fmFor the Fitted Hat Fans - Crown and Stitch: https://crownandstitch.comFor the Cars & Sneakers Fans - Cars & Kicks: https://carsxkicks.comFor the Creators & Creatives - Outside The Box: https://podcasts.apple.com/id/podcast/outside-the-box-convos-with-creators/id1050172106[Links contain affiliate links; we may receive a small commission if you purchase after clicking a link. The forgotten liner that outshone Titanic in real life. What if the most dramatic story of the Olympic-class liners isn't the one you've seen on film?In this fascinating episode of Review It Yourself, we uncover the extraordinary true story of RMS Olympic — the ship often overshadowed by her ill-fated sister, Titanic — but whose career was packed with mutiny, collisions, U-boats, innovation, and wartime heroics.Sean and maritime historian guest Mark Chirnside dive deep into the remarkable history behind his definitive book, RMS Olympic: Titanic's Sister. First published in 2004 and expanded in its 2015 second edition, this meticulously researched volume restores Olympic to her rightful place in maritime history.Far from being the “boring older sister,” Olympic earned the nickname “Old Reliable” for good reason. She survived a major collision with HMS Hawke, served with distinction during the First World War, transported thousands of troops, and even rammed and sank a German U-boat. While Titanic's story has dominated popular culture, Olympic's 24-year career tells a powerful story of resilience, adaptation, and maritime safety reform in the early 20th century. In this episode, we explore:Why Olympic has been historically overlookedThe myths and misconceptions surrounding the Olympic-class linersThe ship's vital wartime service and technical innovationsHow historical narratives are shaped — and sometimes distortedThe research process behind writing a definitive maritime historyMark shares insights into archival research, the challenges of correcting the historical record, and why Olympic deserves far greater recognition among historians and enthusiasts alike.About the GuestMark Chirnside is a respected maritime historian specialising in White Star Line and Cunard liners of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His work is known for its depth, accuracy, and myth-busting clarity.Find Mark's Website 'Mark Chirnside's Reception Room' (including blog) Here: https://markchirnside.co.uk/Listen & SubscribeIf you enjoy deep dives into film, history, and cultural storytelling without the faff, make sure you're subscribed to Review It Yourself on Apple Podcasts and Google Podcasts.New episodes explore films, historical subjects, and fascinating guests — always with sharp insight and honest analysis.Support the PodcastLove the show? Amy and Emily open with condolences for Real Housewives of Salt Lake City's Mary M. Cosby after reports that her son died Monday night in a potential overdose, with the cause of death still pending as an investigation continues. They then discuss Netflix's “Reality Check: America's Next Top Model" and an upcoming E! Dirty Rotten Scandals special, reflecting on how the show's treatment of contestants and behind-the-scenes practices don't hold up today, while debating Tyra Banks' responsibility alongside other producers and judges. The episode shifts to Below Deck Down Under, reacting to a frightening moment when a guest goes missing at sea, questions about life jacket safety, and ongoing communication breakdowns on the boat, plus commentary on the charter guests, delays, and crew dynamics.AREY Most people cover greys, but you can actually slow their progression. Sneaker History Podcast - Sneakers, Sneaker Culture and the Business of Footwear
The whole crew is back together... Nick, Mike, Robbie, and Rohit are all in the same (virtual) room for the first time in a while, and things get weird before they get good. From confusing their Thugs (Young vs. Slim, no disrespect to either) to breaking down the Reebok Engine A26 and the adidas x Spider collab dropping March 3rd, the guys cover a lot of ground this episode. The real meat of the conversation though? That ESPN story by Baxter Holmes about the Jordan 19 and the Black Mamba origin... it turns out the snakeskin concept that defined Kobe's entire identity was originally pitched for Michael Jordan, who wanted absolutely nothing to do with it. Nick, Rohit, and Mike dig into why that story matters beyond the history books, what it says about how sneaker media used to work, and why moments like this one don't happen nearly enough anymore. Then the conversation shifts to Formula 1, sneaker partnerships in motorsports, where the real opportunity is, and why Lewis Hamilton moving to Ferrari might be more interesting for the sneaker world than anyone is talking about yet.Oh, and somewhere in there, Robbie gets off a line about MJ having too many animal nicknames that you just have to hear for yourself.Topics covered:Reebok Engine A26, adidas x Spider Superstar Super Modified, Jordan 19 Black Mamba origin story, WNBA Jordan Heir II, Hyrox vs. CrossFit, Formula 1 sneaker partnerships, NIL deals and the future of basketball culture.ESPN Story: https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/48016100/inside-secret-history-black-mamba-kobe-bryant-michael-jordan-air-jordan-19Nick's Story: https://www.thesneakernewsletter.com/p/sometimes-the-universe-proves-yourSUPPORT THE SHOW:Donate Through Venmo: https://venmo.com/u/sneakerhistoryBuy Me A Coffee: https://buymeacoffee.com/nickengvallEarly Access, Exclusive Videos, and Content On Patreon: https://patreon.com/sneakerhistorySubscribe on Substack: https://substack.com/@sneakerhistoryJoin our Discord Community: https://discord.gg/xJFyWmWgzaIf you are interested in advertising to our audience, contact us: podcast@sneakerhistory.comCHECK OUT OUR OTHER SHOWS:For the Formula 1 Fans - Exhaust Notes: https://exhaustnotes.fmFor the Fitted Hat Fans - Crown and Stitch: https://crownandstitch.comFor the Cars & Sneakers Fans - Cars & Kicks: https://carsxkicks.comFor the Creators & Creatives - Outside The Box: https://podcasts.apple.com/id/podcast/outside-the-box-convos-with-creators/id1050172106[Links contain affiliate links; we may receive a small commission if you purchase after clicking a link. Amy Phillips and Emily Dorezas recap Part 2 of the Real Housewives of Potomac reunion, starting with excitement over Monique's end-of-episode cliffhanger, her superhero look, and her reflections on healing and thriving after divorce but yet a dash of Josh humiliation. They discuss Monique's comments about Angel's husband and whether Monique is projecting, plus Giselle's guarded reaction and her limited openness about dating. They criticize Stacey's condescending read of Ashley, revisit Ashley and Charisse's son, and react to Wendy and Ashley's sparring over alleged credit card/social security claims. They highlight Andy Cohen's running jokes about the “beautiful frame” and “beautiful room,” note the cast's shifting dynamics and sensitivities, and cover chaotic fights involving Jassi, K, and timeline accusations about Greg. They also discuss Giselle's family document dispute, the return of the binder, and tease Karen's upcoming reunion appearance.AREY Most people cover greys, but you can actually slow their progression. Amy and Emily dive into a recap of the latest Traitors episode as the season nears its finale. They review who's left in the game, react to Kristen being gone and Natalie being banished, and debate endgame mechanics like the final murder, round table, and the big last challenge. The main focus is how Natalie got “so screwed,” especially after Tara floated a strong case against Rob but then backtracked at the round table, leaving Natalie exposed and ultimately voting for her. They discuss Rob snapping during the shield challenge, how Maura continues to trust Rob and even reports that Natalie said his name, and how Eric winning the shield changes the night's stakes. Amy and Emily argue over whether Rob's outburst was acting or genuine stress from lying, note how little traction Rob's name gets despite Candace's earlier breadcrumb, and discuss how Rob may use Eric as a fall guy. They end by predicting who will be murdered next—debating Tara, Johnny, or Maura—and briefly touch on the aftershow clip with Natalie and Boston Rob, plus side tangents about the Olympics broadcast duo Johnny and Tara and Rob's potential future reality TV appearances.AREY Most people cover greys, but you can actually slow their progression. Steph Curry's sneaker free agency has him wearing heat from every brand, while Under Armour gets petty by stealing Curry Brand's Instagram followers. We debate where he should sign next (spoiler: maybe nowhere), compare this to Kobe's free agency, and break down why UA's downfall feels inevitable. Is Sunday Red the move? Should he just keep wearing whatever he wants? And why does Under Armour's logo look like a linebacker?SUPPORT THE SHOW:Donate Through Venmo: https://venmo.com/u/sneakerhistoryBuy Me A Coffee: https://buymeacoffee.com/nickengvallEarly Access, Exclusive Videos, and Content On Patreon: https://patreon.com/sneakerhistorySubscribe on Substack: https://substack.com/@sneakerhistoryJoin our Discord Community: https://discord.gg/xJFyWmWgzaIf you are interested in advertising to our audience, contact us: podcast@sneakerhistory.comCHECK OUT OUR OTHER SHOWS:For the Formula 1 Fans - Exhaust Notes: https://exhaustnotes.fmFor the Fitted Hat Fans - Crown and Stitch: https://crownandstitch.comFor the Cars & Sneakers Fans - Cars & Kicks: https://carsxkicks.comFor the Creators & Creatives - Outside The Box: https://podcasts.apple.com/id/podcast/outside-the-box-convos-with-creators/id1050172106[Links contain affiliate links; we may receive a small commission if you purchase after clicking a link.
