What happens when a playful kid turns dandelion fluff into mischief?Spoiler alert—those days of early herbal mischief may just turn into a lifelong passion for the plant world, as it did for my good friend Mason Hutchison. In this episode, Mason discusses the many virtues of the much-maligned (though not in the herbal world!) dandelion, Taraxacum officinale. From stories of childhood antics to his first taste of this “gateway herb,” Mason shares how dandelion has shaped his path as an herbalist and community builder. Along the way, we taste-test dandelion creations (all delicious, though some are decidedly bitter!), dive into its surprising nutritional and medicinal powers, and celebrate the joy this sunny little plant brings. You'll never look at a patch of dandelions the same way again!Along with several other tasty dandelion beverages, Mason and I said cheers over a warm cup of my Spiced Dandelion-Chicory Herbal Brew. This is a new recipe that I've never shared before—and a personal favorite of mine! Check out the beautifully illustrated recipe card here, and enjoy this crowd-pleasing dandelion drink with your own friends!By the end of this episode, you'll know:► How to tell dandelion apart from its many look-alike cousins► The many nutritional and medicinal benefits of dandelion roots, leaves, stems, and flowers► One fun way to work with dandelion seeds (aside from the inevitable wish-making, of course!)► The surprising reason behind dandelion's French nickname, “pissenlit”► and so many other reasons to love this humble weed! For those of you who don't know him, Mason Hutchison is the founder of HerbRally, an herbal community hub that promotes herbalism education and events. He is also the host of The Herbalist Hour, a podcast and YouTube series where he interviews a diverse array of plant people. Mason is a proud father, avid chess, basketball and ping pong player, spring water gatherer, and an enthusiast in the art of frugal nutrition.I'm so excited to share our conversation—and plenty of dandelion love—with you today!----Get full show notes and more information at: herbswithrosaleepodcast.comFor more behind-the-scenes of this podcast, follow @rosaleedelaforet on Instagram!Working successfully with herbs requires three essential skills. What if the secret to successful return-to-work for brain and spinal injury claimants lies not only in physical recovery, but in how we understand—and change—behavior? At Craig Hospital, Board Certified Behavior Analyst Arielle Reindeau reveals a pioneering model where behavioral science drives better therapy participation, faster progress, and ultimately, greater independence.Learn why insurers and agents increasingly see the value in specialized rehabilitation centers that treat behaviors as modifiable variables—not fixed obstacles. Through remarkable case studies, you'll hear how Craig Hospital blends intensive medical care, neuropsychology, family guidance, and data-driven behavioral interventions to overcome aggressive outbursts, refusal of care, and so-called “difficult” patient labels. In this episode, discover actionable insights that can help you advocate for smarter claims strategies—potentially lowering costs and improving claimant outcomes. Sometimes a dog looks calm, but is that what's really happening? Or could it be learned helplessness? Join me as I dive into this listener question and unpack the nuances between the two.Can I touch you? A pilot study comparing consensual and non-consensual human-dog touch interactionshttps://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0168159125000589"Choice and consent are critical welfare elements, especially in interactions between humans and animals. Dogs incorporated in therapeutic settings (therapy dogs) may encounter human touch interactions where they have limited control over their circumstances. The present study examined how forced and free-choice touch treatments during interaction with humans influenced the behaviour of therapy dogs and hypothesized that therapy dogs would display a higher frequency of stress-related behaviours during forced in comparison to free-choice touch treatment. "Old problem, new toolsOne of the psychologists who discovered learned helplessness returns to the topic to pinpoint the phenomenon's neurobiological underpinnings.https://www.apa.org/monitor/2009/10/helplessness"This is the illusion of control at the level of neurochemistry," Maier said.Taken together, the findings suggest that in the face of any stressor, the DRN activates the body's ancient stress responses, but if that stressor turns out to be controllable, the vMPC steps in and calms the DRN's response. "It's like the forebrain is saying, 'Cool it, brain stem, we have the situation under control,'" Maier said.Learned Helplessness Training Article by Nicole Wildehttps://wildewmn.wordpress.com/2019/01/09/learned-helplessness/For full transcripts, go to the audio episode on CreatingGreatGroomingDogs.comFor more info on all of my classes etc, go to https://link.content360.io/CreatingGreatGroomingDogsYou can also listen to this episode as a podcast on my website or anywhere you listen to podcasts. For more information about my classes-The full diploma programMaster Groomer Behavior Specialist(MGBS) diploma programShorter courses-Modern Behavior & Handling for GroomersGroom S.M.A.R.T.Want to support the show? Burnout hasn't gone away — it's just changed shape.Hybrid work blurred boundaries so badly that people are “always on.”AI was supposed to reduce workload, but now professionals feel like they're running to keep up with the machine.Layoffs and cost-cutting mean “do the job of two people” is the new normal. The numbers are brutal:66% of employees say they're burnt out.85% are experiencing physical symptoms.Burnout is costing businesses over half a trillion dollars a year. But here's the twist: burnout isn't just depletion. It's transformation. It's life tapping you on the shoulder saying: this way isn't working anymore. What it looks like right now, who it's hitting hardest, and how you can take back your energy, joy, and leadership this year.Refs:https://www.talentlms.com/research/quiet-cracking-workplace-surveyhttps://www.aihs.org.au/common/Uploaded%20files/Learning-and-Events/Webinar%20Presentation/2025/The%20State%20of%20Workplace%20Burnout%20%20Webinar%20Slides.pdfhttps://www.forbes.com/sites/lisabodell/2025/06/16/feed-the-right-wolf-how-leaders-are-fighting-burnout-in-2025/https://www.ajg.com/au/news-and-insights/2025-workforce-trends-report-workplace-wellbeing-index/https://mentalhealth-uk.org/burnout/Send us a text----------------------------------- Burnout Resources:Get 1-on-1 burnout recovery coaching at https:/mini.dexrandall.comFor even more TIPS see FACEBOOK: @coachdexrandallINSTAGRAM: @coachdexrandallLINKEDIN: @coachdexrandallX: @coachdexrandallSee https://linktr.ee/coachdexrandall for all links

What hidden stories of women are tucked inside this humble herb—linking old folklore, a touch of alchemy, and even today's healing practices? My guest today, Alyssa Dennis, invites us into the world of lady's mantle (Alchemilla spp.), a plant whose cloak-shaped leaves hold both practical healing gifts and threads of ancient story. From her experiences in urban herbal sanctuaries to a life-changing encounter on the sacred isle of Iona, Alyssa shares how this humble herb invites us to see plants not just as remedies, but as storytellers and companions on the path of reconnection.Alyssa's favorite way to work with lady's mantle is as a tincture, using just the right amount of glycerin to sweeten it up and draw out the toning, astringent nature of the plant. You'll find a beautifully-illustrated recipe card for Alyssa's Lady's Mantle Tincture here.By the end of this episode, you'll know:► Why lady's mantle is such a trusted ally for pregnancy, birth, and postpartum healing► How the downy leaves of lady's mantle collect dew—and why alchemists once revered this process► What makes lady's mantle both an ancient wound healer and a modern digestive ally► How myth, folklore, and modern ecology can come together to shape our understanding of plants► and so much more…For those of you who don't know her, Alyssa Dennis is a dedicated earth activist, educator, interdisciplinary artist, and clinical herbalist devoted to the movements of peace, justice, and ecological kinship. Her work has been to reawaken to her ancestral traditions of plant medicine in order to guide her community back into relationship with the living world.Alyssa has two fine art degrees, advanced training in clinical herbalism, and spent years within the natural building profession. She is the founder of Eclipta Herbal and steward of a vibrant herbal sanctuary in Baltimore City—a living classroom home to over 100 species of medicinal plants (and counting). This space is a heart-centered venture of ecological conservation—of both the human body and the land body—which serves as gathering ground for plant medicine education, community building, earth skills workshops, and collaboration. Preaching That Changes Lives: Dr John Whittaker

Dr John Whittaker shares why expository preaching changes lives. He traces his journey from a shy teenager to his first sunrise-Easter sermon in 1985, reflects on Pastor Don's topical, many-point approach - “like a log of bologna” you could cut anywhere - and explains why he came to believe the power for transformation lies in the text of Scripture itself. Drawing on Hebrews 4:12, John argues that the Word exposes and renews the heart, so the preacher's task is to let the passage set the agenda.John describes expository preaching as a practice where the theme, purpose and shape of the sermon are determined by the passage. His guiding motto is simple and workable: the nature of the text determines the shape of the sermon. Along the way he offers practical coaching on resisting topic-first sermons, finding the central theme of a message, and helping congregations grow in biblical literacy.About Dr John WhittakerJohn Whittaker is a disciple of Jesus and a Bible teacher whose goal is to provide what he calls “blue jeans theology” - theology for everyday life. He's been a pastor and a church planter. He also taught at Boise Bible College full-time for 19 years, and still serves as an adjunct professor. One of his greatest joys in life is being a husband, father, and grandfather.Currently, John is creating all sorts of online Bible teaching resources to help people learn and live the Bible. One key resource is The Listener's Commentary (listenerscommentary.com), which provides clear, down-to-earth teaching through the books of the New Testament. John loves seeing people come alive to the joy and transforming power of walking with Jesus in the midst of their everyday life. The Listener's Commentary: https://listenerscommentary.comFor information about our upcoming training events visit ExpositorsCollective.com The Expositors Collective podcast is part of the CGNMedia, Working together to proclaim the Gospel, make disciples, and plant churches. "I'm a feminist theologian who was excommunicated and I'd been a Gnostic Christian for 15 years. I didn't know where to start. We let Christ, the living bridge be the bridge between us. We didn't presume to come from our own perspectives. You know, I was saying things like. "Well, you know, I was excommunicated. Do we need to go back and revisit all of that?" And they said, "No, no. All we care about is your relationship with Christ. Tell us about your faith and your relationship with Christ and with God." And so I did and we just turned it over to God and prayed and then it was beautiful. This is what's hard for a lot of my friends and a lot of feminists to understand. Like, was I recapitulating? Was I surrendering? Was I giving up my feminism? No. They never asked me to recant or give up anything. We were exploring a new relationship between feminists and church leaders. I saw them as my brothers. They were like pillars. They were so loving and so kind, and it was just utterly healing." 00:00 Excommunicated over Women's Studies04:39 Maxine's Historical and Theological Journey15:00 Excommunication and Its Impact20:26 Exploring Other Faiths and Gnostic Christianity32:10 Divine Feminine in LDS Doctrine35:03 Returning to the Church38:09 Feminism and Healing46:58 Experiencing the Body of ChristLatter day MatchMaker Serve Clothing code COMEBACK for 15% offhttps://serveclothing.com/memor jewelry - 10% Discount code: COMEBACKhttps://memorjewelry.com/Serve Clothing code COMEBACK for 15% offhttps://serveclothing.com/If you have a story to share please contact ashly.comebackpodcast@gmail.comFor inquiries contact info.comebackpodcast@gmail.comCome Back Team:Director, Founder, & Host: Ashly StoneEditor: Cara ReedOutreach Manager: Jenna CarlsonAssistant Editor: Michelle BergerAssistant Editor: Britt SmallzeArt Director: Jeremy GarciaProduction Director: Trent Wardwell

Warrior, healer, and protector—could this common roadside plant be nature's ultimate ally for both body and spirit? In this episode, herbalist and educator Carolyn Jones shares about a plant often called the “mother of all wound healers”—yarrow (Achillea millefolium). I was so excited that she chose to discuss this plant, as it's my herbal ally for the year and one I hold close to my heart. Although I've worked with yarrow for many years and already know it well, it's such a multifaceted herb that, like a dear friend, there's always more to learn about it.Carolyn certainly didn't disappoint, as she went well beyond commonly-known ways to work with yarrow for physical ailments. Her discussion of how yarrow can help to strengthen and heal us both spiritually and emotionally was so powerful and insightful, I know I'll be mulling it over for quite some time. The recipe that Carolyn shared with us is such a thoughtful, beautiful way to work with yarrow—with the intention not of getting rid of some challenge or affliction, but instead of calling forth a strength we might want to invoke: courage. You can download a beautifully-illustrated recipe card for her Medicine for the Soul: Courage Blend here.By the end of this episode, you'll know:► Five herbal preparations for working with yarrow, and the strengths and benefits of each► How flower essences are prepared—and how yarrow flower essence can help to heal emotional wounds► Yarrow's history of ritual use for spiritual protection► How yarrow's blood-moving qualities make it uniquely supportive for relieving certain types of pain► and so much more…For those of you who don't know her, Carolyn Jones is the founder of the Healing Project and serves as the coordinator of the Herbalists Without Borders' Healing Project Mobile Clinic. A dedicated community herbalist and holistic health educator, she holds certifications in aromatherapy, flower essences, reflexology, and acupuncture detoxification. Carolyn is also an accomplished author and bereavement chaplain. Her published works include Pick Up Your Bed and Walk, a self-care guide for those pursuing a healthier lifestyle through herbal support; Incantations, an affirmation guidebook; and Medicine for Your Soul, which explores the trauma-informed healing potential of flower essences and hydrosols in combination with essential oils.I'm delighted to share our conversation with you today!----Get full show notes and more information at: herbswithrosaleepodcast.comFor more behind-the-scenes of this podcast, follow @rosaleedelaforet on Instagram!Working successfully with herbs requires three essential skills.
