Potter Revisited Episode #96 Gaslighting AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 36 "The Parting of the Ways" We are now a Fudge Hate podcast After learning that Moody was actually Barty Crouch Jr and everything that happened to him, Harry still needs to sit with Dumbledore and tell him everything that happened Despite it all, Harry does ask about Cedric's parents Fawkes gives Harry the emotional support he needs, as well as Sirius Harry feels immediate comfort with Fawkes around - is this due to the wand or, or is this just what Phoenixes do? Fawkes is basically an emotional support animal at this point Could Dumbledore just have gotten Harry's memories of the events instead of making him relive it? Dumbledore keeps telling Harry he did beyond what was expected of him... but what was expected of him? Dumbledore's "gleam of triumph" What does it mean? We learn brother wands can't attack each other - what was Olivander doing making these wands in the first place? Sirius is visibly shocked and upset about the ghostly apparitions of James and Lily - is he reliving his own trauma from their deaths? Dumbledore does show Harry a lot of care in the aftermath, which is starkly different to how he treats Harry in OOTP Dumbledore: "What matters isn't what someone is born but what they grow to be" - very interesting quote in regards to the series Note: We do discuss the author's transphobic views in relation to this quote Mini G comes in yelling at Fudge - good for her Fudge came in and got rid of the "evidence" and then complains about the lack of evidence Fudge gaslights everyone SO hard Fudge shows the ugly side of his character with how he treats Harry and avoids responsibility to to see reason Why is Fudge coming to question the suspect rather than a trained professional like an Aurror? Fudge seems suspicious - the way he acted seems like he was in on a cover up Cedric's parents deserve answers in how he died Interesting when Harry names Lucius Malfoy as a Death Eater, Fudge brings up the fact that he is from an "old family" that donates a large amount of money, so he is obviously innocent - something we see a lot today Snape shows Fudge and everyone around his dark mark - is this pretty brave of him? Sirius reveals himself to everyone, and Snape realizes that Dumbledore has been gaslighting him for a year It feels naïve the way Dumbledore tries to have Sirius and Snape burry the hatchet - he expected too much as they have too much history Sirius and Snape leave to do their part of Dumbledore's master plan, and Mrs Weasley steps in to support Harry Harry describes the hug he gets being like from a mother - which has so much emotional ties with everything he has been through It is interesting how this chapter closes everything yet everything is not resolved and won't be going into OOTP - really a new beginning Last chapter and wrap up for GOF coming soon! In this episode host Iain Ballantyne and returning guest Dr Gary Blackburn convene to discuss the substance, or otherwise, of the UK's recently published Strategic Defence Review (SDR) paper. They also tackle topics relating to the Israel-Iran War, the British reaction to it and also what President Donald Trump may or may not do next. Gary proposes that the UK SDR paper was more of a template than anything else, and in fact amounted to a rather big fudge. Iain suggests that UK politicians have not yet woken up the to the sheer scale of effort needed - and also urgency required - to properly defend the nation. For example, submarines appear fundamental to the SDR's vision of national defence and yet the Submarine Service itself is not really getting what it needs to be ready to operate future vessels. In sharing his considerable expertise on how Defence economics work, Gary touches on the UK's creative accounting - ‘cooking the books'. It sees things that are not really part of Defence slotted into the UK's supposed proportion of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) devoted to creating robust and capable military forces (plus what it needs to qualify for NATO membership). The worth of drones and A.I. versus the need for more frigates and submarines is among other things weighed up during a lively chat that also considers the viability of the UK's new ‘Atlantic Bastion' concept. •Dr Gary Blackburn is an honorary fellow of the Centre for Security Studies at the University of Hull. He has taught Security Studies and Military History at the Universities of Leeds and Hull, respectively - and has written for Defence Studies and The Critic, and for the latter about aspects of the UK's 2021 Integrated Review of Defence and Security. So join us in this special PRIDE episode (the first of two this month) and enjoy!Haschich Fudge (which anyone could whip up on a rainy day)This is the food of Paradise—of Baudelaire's Artificial Paradises: it might provide an entertaining refreshment for a Ladies' Bridge Club or a chapter meeting of the DAR. In Morocco it is thought to be good for warding off the common cold in damp winter weather and is, indeed, more effective if taken with large quantities of hot mint tea. Euphoria and brilliant storms of laughter; ecstatic reveries and extension of one's personality on several simultaneous planes are to be complacently expected. Almost anything Saint Theresa did, you can do better if you can bear to be ravished by “un évanouissement reveillé.”Take 1 teaspoon black peppercorns, 1 whole nutmeg, 4 average sticks of cinnamon, 1 teaspoon coriander. These should all be pulverised in a mortar. About a handful each of stoned dates, dried figs, shelled almonds and peanuts: chop these and mix them together. A bunch of cannabis sativa can be pulverised. This along with the spices should be dusted over the mixed fruit and nuts, kneaded together. About a cup of sugar dissolved in a big pat of butter. Rolled into a cake and cut into pieces or made into balls about the size of a walnut, it should be eaten with care. Put chocolate bits and German chocolate, marshmallow cream and nutmeats in a bowl. Pour the boiling syrup over the ingredients. Beat until chocolate is all melted, then pour in pan. Let stand a few hours before cutting. Remember it is better the second day. Store in tin box.

Anissa Dann is the chef/owner of Wicked Good Plants, a vegan baking and pastry company based out of Napa, CA. If you know us, you know we love a good Spooktacular, which is why this year we really committed to the bit of renaming the pod Ear Tickler. You've been had! We are so sorry. This was our April Fools Spooktacular and it went Spooktacularly. This has gone on too long. We had more planned for it but life got in the way. The pod is not going to be called Ear Tickler at all, but instead, FUDGECAST. Why FUDGECAST? Well, FUDGE was our original name pre-pandemic and we plan on doing live shows under the name FUDGE again, so we want to tie it all in under one Umbrella. FUDGECAST, FUDGE, FUDGE & Friends etc. All Fudge, all the time. Now that we've underwhelmingly blown your mind, an important message specifically from Tim! Thanks so much for supporting the podand providing us with some of the funniest damn ideas to improvise too. We truly love doing the pod for you!At the start of the year, Dan took another hiatus to work on his show and raise a family and our editor and producer Matthew decided to step away to work a new job and make a cross country move. Damian works a full 9-5 which has just left me to schedule, record, edit, produce, and promote the podcast. I did the same thing last year when they stepped away but it's becoming a bit overwhelming as time goes on. I genuinely love producing the pod, but I need to find a way to keep it sustainable and fun, so my actual performance on the pod doesn't suffer. So I've cleared it with the boys and we're going to go down to one episode a week (for now) that will live exclusively behind the Patreon wall (with a teaser on the main feed similar to shows like Mandog Pod). We've really enjoyed the in person episodes and the energy feels so much better when you're in the room with other performers, so the plan is to do a lot more in person recordings and have those be our main episodes, perhaps filling them with more scenes and scene requests over longer conversations. That's where we shine anyway, our takes aren't hot enough to be a talking heads pod. The timeline for this is looking like the end of April to start this more slowed down summer. My hope is that this will actually free us up for more live shows, Q&A's, and other interesting bonus content, but I don't want to over promise just yet. Just want to give full transparency on where my head is at. So that's it! FUDGECAST is a go, but scaled back slightly to accommodate my mental health, which I personally love.
