We can't, and we needed to be reminded by instagram to even realise. So, to celebrate, we gathered questions from our loyal listeners, and today we're finally getting to the bottom of: What kind of poster would Yukio Mishima be if he were still around? What kind of posts do we miss the most? How has the show changed now that we're both parents, and if we entered the babies into a baby contest, what would they win? All this and more! ------ PALESTINE AID LINKS You can donate to Medical Aid for Palestinians and other charities using the links below. Rebecca returns to the show to talk about her recent attempts to reclaim her attention from screens and notifications, and whether it's truly possible to build an attention span at all. We discuss the developing literature and research around attention, and what is meant when we talk about focus, delve into the great debate on declining literacy rates & whether we are heading toward a ‘post-literate' society, and whether the small, but growing number of people trying to better manage their time online might be an effective starting point to challenge the algorithms. The Section 59 Investigation Panel into allegations of racial discrimination by medical schemes against black health care providers in South Africa says that the procedures implemented by the schemes violated the rights of procedural fairness of some individual practitioners. This was revealed by the panel during a media briefing in Pretoria this morning. The Panel was setup in 2019 following allegations by black healthcare providers that they were being discriminated against by medical schemes and administrators. Their claims were being withheld based on their race and ethnicity. For more on this matter we spoke to Health Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi ...

What if your end-of-life journey could be as dignified and peaceful as possible? Guided by my two decades of experience as a hospice and oncology nurse, I invite you to a candid conversation about Medical Aid in Dying (MAID), also known as Physician Assisted Death or Death with Dignity. This discussion aims to demystify the process, highlighting the distinction from euthanasia and exploring why some individuals find solace in choosing this path. With stringent criteria including a terminal illness prognosis of six months or less and the patient's ability to self-administer medication, MAID represents a complex yet empowering option for those facing the end of life. We also navigate the wider landscape of end-of-life choices, shedding light on alternatives like palliative sedation and voluntarily stopping eating and drinking (VSED). Each offers its own pathway to maintaining dignity and control during life's final chapter. The pivotal role of a death doula is discussed, emphasizing thoughtful planning and emotional support. For those contemplating MAID, critical questions are posed to encourage reflection on fears, options, and the necessity of spiritual and emotional support. This episode is designed to empower you with knowledge, enabling informed and personal decisions free from external pressure. We dive into: 00:00 Introduction to the Good Death Podcast 00:39 Understanding Medical Aid in Dying (MAID) 04:14 Legal Aspects and Criteria for MAID 05:56 Reasons People Choose MAID 08:19 Addressing Fears and Concerns 13:31 Alternative End-of-Life Options 15:57 The Role of Doulas and Support Systems 17:00 Making Informed Decisions 21:47 Invitation to the Good Death Book Club 23:44 Conclusion and Final Thoughts If you found this podcast helpful, please Rate, Review, & Follow so we can reach more people. Roxanne Jones is a nurse with Global Care Force, an organization based in Lenexa that provides medical aid around the world. She returned Saturday to the United States from Jordan, a country located in between Israel and Iran, and witnessed missiles fly between the two nations.
Corrine Carey, Compassion & Choices' Senior Campaign Director for NY and NJ speaks with HMM producer, Melissa Bromley, about the passage of the Medical Aid in Dying Bill in the New York State Legislature.
Dr. Phil continues his exploration of the controversial issue of Medical Aid in Dying, in which a competent adult with a terminal illness receives a prescription for self-administered medication to end their life—legal in only 11 parts of the country. He speaks with Jessica Scarcella-Spanton, New York State Senator for the 23rd District, who says she fights to make Medical Aid in Dying legal in her state. He also speaks with Kim Callinan, President and CEO of Compassion and Choices, an organization dedicated to advocating for end-of-life options and helping implement medical aid in dying laws nationwide. The debate intensifies when Dr. Phil introduces Brian Johnston, author of Death As A Salesman: What's Wrong With Assisted Suicide, who argues that Medical Aid in Dying does not help, but rather facilitates the suicide of vulnerable adults. Dr. Phil takes on the controversial issue of Medical Aid in Dying, in which a competent adult with a terminal illness receives a prescription for self-administered medication to end their life—currently legal in only 11 parts of the country. He speaks with Meg, a 47-year-old woman living with chronic pain from a permanent spinal cord injury. Because she doesn't qualify under existing laws, Meg shares her decision to medically end her life at a facility in Switzerland. Dr. Phil also hears from Meg's best friend, Kelly, who insists on being by Meg's side during her final moments. Plus, Dr. Phil meets Daren and Amy, parents who watched their vibrant 24-year-old daughter—a gifted ballet dancer—receive a terminal cancer diagnosis and endure unbearable pain. They say she wanted to pursue Medical Aid in Dying, but because it was illegal in their state, they were forced to watch her suffer until the end. On this episode of Stinchfield, we take aim at the Left’s latest rebranding scheme: the push for assisted suicide, now deceptively packaged as the "Medical Aid in Dying Act." Don’t let the sanitized name fool you—this is state-sponsored suicide wrapped in a lab coat. We expose how the radical Left is working overtime to normalize death as a solution to suffering, depression, disability, and even economic hardship. It’s not compassion—they’re fueling a dangerous suicide culture that tells the vulnerable their lives aren’t worth living. From slippery slope policies to a chilling disregard for mental health red flags, we’ll lay out how this agenda quietly devalues human life, one law at a time. Plus, we’ll ask the hard question: why is the government so eager to make it easier to die than to live? This isn’t mercy—it’s moral collapse. Tune in, and don’t miss the truth the mainstream media refuses to tell. The Wellness Company prides itself on pushing back against censorship and tyranny. It's why it has developed a series of prescription drug medical emergency kits including a parasite cleanse that prescribed directly to you and delivered to your door to use incase of an emergency. In this special edition of "Connections" with a live audience, we discuss the Medical Aid in Dying Act and other legislation that can affect the disability community. How often are people with disabilities — and caregivers — brought into the discussion? What are the risks of legislating without that input, whether it's Medical Aid in Dying or other proposals? Who should be helping guide policy? Our guests discuss it. In studio: Chris Hilderbrant, executive director of the Rochester Spinal Association Heather Burroughs, caregiver and director of advocacy for AutismUp Brian Weber, member of the disability community and assistant football coach

Greg Bishop reviews some shell bill action happening at the Illinois Statehouse in the final days with an empty budget bill passed to the House by the Senate and a measure about food safety being gutted and replaced in the House to advance "medical aid in dying" legislation.
As the legislative session come to a close in the next few weeks, lawmakers and advocates are spending the final days pushing for a slew of policy initiatives they'd like to get passed. One such bill is the Medical Aid in Dying Act. After years of rallying, advocates were happy to see it passed for the first time in the Assembly chamber a few weeks ago. But it's unclear whether or not it will make any movement in the state Senate before the end of session. State Sen. James Skoufis (D-Orange County) joins us to unpack how interchange fees on state taxes and tips are hurting small businesses in the state. Explore More: nynow.org
We're joined by journalist and author Bridget Read, to talk about her new book, “Little Bosses Everywhere : How the Pyramid Scheme Shaped America”. Bridget talks to us about the long history of Multi Level Marketing (MLM), its place in American mythmaking and how the Direct Selling industry was able to acquire political power and influence, which continues to help them evade regulation, as well as shape social and economic policy. We also talk about why MLMs aren't simply alternative business models, but rather, structures that rely on coercion and at times, manipulation, in order to function. We also talk about how MLMs have been exported out of the US, targeting communities around the world, including in countries like the UK.
