We welcome back Major General William M. Matz Jr., a distinguished retired U.S. Army officer, whose new book, My Toughest Battle: A Soldier's Lifelong Struggle with Polio, chronicles his journey of overcoming polio and his distinguished military career. Commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1962, Matz embarked on a military career that spanned over three decades. As an infantryman, he served in Korea and Panama, and as a company commander with the 9th Infantry Division in Vietnam, where he was wounded during the 1968 Tet Offensive. His service extended to multiple tours with the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions, and he held the position of executive secretary to Secretaries of Defense Caspar Weinberger and Frank Carlucci. Matz also served two years with Navy/Marine Corps amphibious forces in the Pacific during a second tour in Vietnam and deployed with the 7th Infantry Division to Panama during Operation JUST CAUSE in 1989. Upon retiring from the Army in 1995, Matz transitioned to the defense industry, holding positions such as Vice President of Army Programs at Raytheon Company and General Manager for Vinnell/Northrop Grumman's Saudi Arabian National Guard Modernization Program in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In 2005, President George W. Bush appointed him to the Veterans' Disability Benefits Commission, where he served until 2008. He also served as President of the National Association for Uniformed Services, advocating for service members, veterans, and their families. In January 2018, President Donald Trump appointed Matz as the Secretary of the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC), a position he held until March 2021. In this role, he was responsible for overseeing America's overseas commemorative cemeteries and memorials, honoring the service of U.S. armed forces. Throughout his career, Matz received numerous military awards and decorations, including the Distinguished Service Cross, Defense Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star for Valor, Purple Heart, and the Combat Infantryman Badge. Send us a textIf you've ever felt overwhelmed or unsure how to guide your children through today's gender identity confusion, you are not alone — and you are not without tools. In this deeply honest episode of The Way of Valor, I speak directly to Christian parents about the urgent need to engage, speak truth, and love our kids well through a cultural moment that is anything but neutral. This episode lays a foundation rooted in Biblical truth, scientific facts, and practical compassion. I cover the research around gender dysphoria, the rapid increase in youth transitioning, and how cultural institutions — including media and schools — are shaping your children's beliefs, often without your knowledge. I also tackle one of the biggest lies: that silence is safer than speaking up. Spoiler alert: It's not.But this isn't just about warning — it's about hope. As believers, we have access to eternal truths that free, heal, and restore. I'm here to equip you with clarity, resources, and confidence. You don't need to have all the answers. You just need the courage to have the conversation. Rabbi Yochanan and Reish Lakish disagree about how to understand three different verses relating to Gehenom and the final redemption - Reish Lakish interprets them all harshly and rabbi Yochanan more leniently. The language of redemption used in the Torah describes both getting out of Egypt and coming into the land of Israel. Rabbi Simai makes a heikesh - just like the Jews entered the land with only two out of the 600,000 that came out of Egypt, they also came out of Egypt with the same percentage of people that were there. If 600,000 came out, it must be that there were 180 billion people there, and they died before the Exodus. The same will hold e for the days of the Messiah, as is derived from Hosea 2:17. Two situations are described in which Moshe is critical of God. The people of a wayward city, that were convinced by members of their city to worship idols, do not have a share in the World-to-Come. Send us a textWelcome back to the conclusion of my interview with retired Las Vegas Metro Lieutenant Randy Sutton. Most cops, including myself, have a recurring nightmare of being in a gunfight and their firearm malfunctioning or their rounds hitting the bad guy with no effect. My guest on today's show lived that nightmare, going toe to toe with a gunman less than a few feet away from him, with his pistol malfunctioning, and once he cleared his weapon, the rounds hitting, but having no effect. All the while the bad guy was firing his gun at him so closely he could see the fire coming out the barrel. Lt. Sutton joined the Princeton Police Department at 19 years of age, becoming one of the youngest Police Officers in the state. He served the town for ten years before joining the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, where he served for almost 24 years, retiring at the rank of lieutenant. During his service, he distinguished himself as one of the highest decorated officers in department history, having earned multiple Lifesaving awards, Exemplary Service awards, Community service,e and a Medal for Valor. The good lieutenant is also a public speaker, prolific author, podcaster, and the founder of Wounded Blue whose mission is to improve the lives of injured and disabled law enforcement officers by providing support, education, assistance and legislative advocacy to our true American heroes. Please enjoy this often raw and very real conversation with Lieutenant Randy Sutton. In today's episode we discuss:.·      Saving a baby who was shot in a drive-by shooting during a gang initiation.·      Randy's career progression in the Vegas Metro PD. ·      Randy's opinion of the Vegas Metro PD now compared to back when he was on the job.·      The biggest changes in the department in the last twenty years.·      How many times was he told by tourists that prostitution is legal in Vegas?·      What if anything is being done about prostitution in Las Vegas?·      How is order kept in a town that is flooded with drunk/high tourists who are vulnerable to criminality?·      How Randy dealt with an unexpected end to his law enforcement career.·      What is The Wounded Blue?

Send us a textWelcome to part one of my show with retired Las Vegas Metro Lieutenant Randy Sutton. Most cops, including myself, have a reoccurring nightmare of being in a gunfight and their firearm malfunctioning or their rounds hitting the bad guy with no effect. My guest on today's show lived that nightmare, going toe to toe with a gunman less than a few feet away from him, with his pistol malfunctioning, and once he cleared his weapon, the rounds hitting, but having no effect. All the while, the bad guy was firing his gun at him so closely he could see the fire coming out of the barrel. Lt. Sutton joined the Princeton Police Department at 19 years of age, becoming one of the youngest Police Officers in the state. He served the town for ten years before joining the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, where he served for almost 24 years, retiring at the rank of lieutenant. During his service, he distinguished himself as one of the highest decorated officers in department history, having earned multiple Lifesaving awards, Exemplary Service awards, Community service, and a Medal for Valor. The good lieutenant is also a public speaker, prolific author, podcaster, and the founder of Wounded Blue, whose mission is to improve the lives of injured and disabled law enforcement officers by providing support, education, assistance, and legislative advocacy to our true American heroes. Please enjoy this often raw and very real conversation with Lieutenant Randy Sutton. In today's episode we discuss:.·      Why and how he got involved in law enforcement.·      How he became a police officer at the young age of nineteen. ·      The best and worst parts of being a small town cop in Princeton New Jersey.·      Starting over his law enforcement career in the Las Vegas Metro Police Department.·      The challenges and problems with starting over in Vegas and being one of the oldest recruits in the academy. ·      Responding to an active shooter at a high school.·      Going toe to toe with an armed suspect and having your gun malfunction.·      Testifying in a Coroner's Inquest and facing the suspect's mother.·      The aftermath of being in a fatal confrontation.Visit the Wounded Blue website and donate to this worthy cause!Visit Randy's website!Check out the new Cops and Writers YouTube channel!Check out my newest book, The Good Collar (Michael Quinn Vigilante Justice Series Book 1)!!!!!Enjoy the Cops and Writers book series. Please visit the Cops and Writers website. What would you do if you lost the one you loved the most? (19:47} • I've always wanted to do this one for Elliott and for me. It's therapeutic anyway. It takes courage to tell that story. (26:10) • If you do do it, what is it gonna say? You gotta be really sure why you're doing it. (26:30) • It's hard, when you talk to somebody, to tell their story. (27:14) • Having those hard conversations with people. It's kind of difficult. And to put in on film is another level of difficulty. (27:26) • The big thing we were doing was overwatches. Clearance operations, pushing through a sector. Establishing a foothold. (31:31) • Often, we never made it to the next cycle. They would start surrounding us, then we were like “We're out.” Then we'd have to shoot our way out. (32:00) • Everybody got fragged. When you hear a piece of metal land on concrete, it's a very distinct sound. (40:55) • There's nothing I wouldn't do with the guys. Shoulder to shoulder, I'll Walk through the fire • with you guys. When you're by yourself, it's a little scary. (79:45) • Well, if we don't make it, at least we'll all die together. (80:35) • I'd rather die with my bro's, than die alone.
