This episode starts out great, then gets better and better. It's informative and witty, talking about the real joys of film. There are distinctive gear reviews, as Jeff raves about his new Pentax MX, possibly triggering the IDOC effect on eBay. And of course, there's plenty of vapid gladhanding, as Gabe hits one LA camera show after another. Plenty to hear here, so tune in!well looky here! Bad Review Guy updated his bad review on iTunes! guess he's still listening! as for the rest of you, leave us a good one, OK?Busy Gabe went to his first camera meetup since the Palisades fire: Beers & Cameras in Venice…saw a pristine Widelux F7 with the coveted filter set, purchased from Blue Moon Camera…got gifted the beat-up black-paint Nikon F of his dreams…went to the LA Camera Expo in Burbank…also received from spider_dude two Walker Evans books, incl. There's fever in the funkhouse now for Episode № 58 of I Dream of Cameras, in which we introduce a startling new segment: we ROLL THE DICE to choose from a bumper crop of listener-suggested topics. Tune in ‘cause the deuce is still wild!Cameras of 1965:Leicaflex MK2Minolta Autopak 700Hasselblad EL/MOlympus Pen EMNikkormat FTand something else that came out in 1965Jeff saw the Terry O'Neill show at Fotografiska……went to Overland Photo Supply in Overland Park, Kansas……and bought a Pentax Spotmatic F for cheap! you K1000 devotees are crazy!Gabe did a nighttime photo shoot at Mel's Diner on Sunset with his beloved Nikon D700, experimenting with flashJeff got the first roll back from his Minolta P's, and likes the results… though he misses having backlight compensationRecommended documentary: All the Beauty and the Bloodshed, about photographer Nan Goldin, streaming on Kanopy (free with your public library card)It's been a year — how's Polaroid Music going?A new segment where we roll the dice and pull from our list of undiscussed topics!Celebs with film camerasOur oddest cameras:Contarex BullseyeVoigtländer Vitessa LAlpa 11siWerraMinoxNikonosPentax Auto 110Ricoh Mirai ZoomMinolta 110 ZoomScale-focus cameras - Gabe can't stand them!the prodigious mailbag!and finally: Chloe Kissner has a photography business, and her mom is buying a film camera
We're starting off the new year with a continuation of the Pentax discussion we started in Episode 38. Pentax Part Deux picks up with the K-Mount SLRs produced by Asahi in the 1970s and we go through the auto focus cameras, covering Pentax point and shoots, and even the Pentax 67 and 110 cameras to round out many of the most popular models from that era. If you are fans of the Pentax MX, LX, ME Super, 110 Auto, or even the PC35AF, this is the episode you won't want to miss! Joining us on this episode are returning callers Mark Faulkner, Robert Rotoloni, Andrew Smith, Larry Effler, and Mario Piper, and first time callers Marcy Merrill from junkstorecameras.com, Ed Gabe, and Nate Ostroushko. In addition to gobs of Pentax love, we cover Ricoh/Pentax's recent announcement of their intent to reintroduce film cameras, fantasizing about what we'd like to see in a new camera, and what to avoid from previous Kickstarter projects like the Reflex and Ihagee Elbaflex prototypes. We answer the tough questions regarding M42 vs K-mount lenses, cover what seems to be everyone's favorite digicam, plus Mike gets to visit a previous guest and hold a historically significant replica. As always, the topics we discuss on the Camerosity Podcast are decided by you. We would love to hear from more listeners, especially those who are new to shooting film or collecting cameras. Please don't feel like you have to be an expert on a specific type of camera, or have the level of knowledge on par with other people on the show. We LOVE people who are new to shooting and are interested in having an episode dedicated to people new to the hobby, so please don't consider your knowledge level to be a prerequisite for joining! The guys and I rarely know where each episode is going to go until it happens, so if you'd like to join us on a future episode, be sure to look out for our show announcements on our Camerosity Podcast Facebook page, and right here on mikeeckman.com. We record every other Monday and announcements, along with the Zoom link are typically shared 2-3 days in advance. If you want to join us for our next episode, we will record Episode 41 on Monday, January 16th and we will have a special guest who is fast becoming the go to repair source for the Zeiss-Ikon Contax rangefinder! Be sure to stay tuned for the official announcement! In this episode, InnerFidelity interviews Heinz Renner, one of the original designers of the headphone and long-time engineer for both AKG and then Philips. Renner provides us with an in-depth look into history of the legendary K1000, and how he seeks to improve upon the original with his newest creation called the MySphere 3.
