Introduction In today's episode, we host Dr. Shannon White, a seasoned professional in the healthcare community who's become a leading voice in Lyme disease treatment. Joining her are Rich Johannesen and special guest co-host Tiara Smith, who together will navigate the intricacies of Lyme disease, its co-infections, and the often complex treatment process. The Journey of Dr. Shannon White Dr. White shares her personal and professional journey. Raised in Iowa, she was always a nature enthusiast, which ironically exposed her to ticks and the risk of Lyme disease. Dr. White was fascinated by health and biology from a young age, leading her to choose a career as a chiropractor. However, her quest for knowledge led her to explore further – delving into acupuncture and herbalism. Understanding Lyme Dr. White's passion for learning and dedication to her patients led her to investigate deeper into recurring patterns in their health issues. This journey led her to explore the realm of Lyme disease. The conversation steers into discussing the complications of Lyme disease and its co-infections, where she highlights the importance of tailored treatment plans. Discovering a New Approach Dr. White touches upon a novel approach to diagnosis using a meridian-based machine called The Reflex. This innovative device detects the stress level in the body by analyzing the reactions to vials containing imprints of different viruses and bacteria DNA. Treating Lyme and Co-Infections Dr. White discusses her approach to treating Lyme disease, co-infections, and the challenging process of determining which condition to address first. With the help of DesBio, a series of homeopathic remedies, and customized treatment plans, she has been able to help many of her patients recover. The Nutrition Factor The podcast covers the importance of nutrition in Lyme treatment. Dr. White recommends reducing the intake of dairy, corn, soy, gluten, and sugar to aid in recovery. She also emphasizes the importance of addressing any existing digestive issues. Lyme in Children Dr. White shares her experience treating children with Lyme disease and PANDAS/PANS, describing her joy in seeing them recover. She stresses the importance of listening to patients to fully understand their condition and develop the best treatment plan. Mold as a Co-factor Our conversation takes an unexpected turn when Dr. White discusses the impact of mold on Lyme disease. She shares patient stories where unexplained symptoms and stubborn Lyme cases were finally resolved after addressing hidden mold issues in the patients' environments. Parting Thoughts The podcast concludes with Dr. White sharing what she wishes more people knew about Lyme disease, emphasizing that it's not just deer ticks that can cause the condition. She encourages listeners to be vigilant and informed about this complex disease. Closing Remarks Our co-hosts thank Dr. White for her valuable insights and the knowledge she shared about Lyme disease, promising to continue the conversation in future episodes. Tune in to this episode to learn more about Dr. Shannon White's journey, her approach to treating Lyme disease, and how she is making a difference in the healthcare community.

1984 - January: The Nails "Mood Swing"

What the Riff?!?

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 21, 2023 37:26

If you are not familiar with The Nails don't feel bad.  They were not a hit on commercial radio, but this punk rock/new wave outfit from Boulder Colorado was much better known on college radio in the mid to late 80's.  Although Mood Swing is their debut album from 1984, the band originally formed in 1976 as a five-piece band.  They moved to New York and built both their musical chops and their following on the club circuit before their major label debut. At the time that Mood Swing was released the band consisted of Marc Campbell on vocals, Steve O'Rourke on guitar, George Kaufman on bass, Douglas Guthrie on saxophone, and David Kaufman on keyboards.  Drummer Tommy Cotogna had left the band prior to recording the album, and Dennis McDermott provided the drum work for the album sessions. The band produced a sound that included strong musicianship, dark and often deliberately shocking lyrics, but laced with a sense of humor.  Campbell claimed that their music came from “a mystical and sexual area.  I write in a cinematic way, trying to create through language and sound, texture and atmosphere, a specific mood.”  The songs on the album do indeed represent a diversity of mood.Wayne relives his days as a college radio DJ as he brings us this new wave group for the podcast, and we are joined by friend of the show Heather Lynch, sitting in for Bruce (and keeping Lynch in line). Every Time I Touch YouThe distinctive bass line followed by the screaming guitar leads into this song about being lost in a mix of love and lust, though we're not certain that this is a match made in heaven.  Love is a fire which can be explosive and tear the lovers apart.   And you never can go wrong with a sax!Let It All Hang OutThis is a cover from a 1967 song by the Hombres, and a “southern-fried parody” of Bob Dylan's “Subterranean Homesick Blues.” A number of other artists also covered this song, including Cream, John Cougar Mellencamp, and Wheezer.  It's a fun song.88 Lines About 44 Women If the Nail had a “hit” this was it.  This single peaked at number 46 on the US dance chart, and was laid out on a new Casio keyboard.  The Nails had released several versions of this song previously on independent labels.  Lead singer Campbell says that the song pays tribute to the power and glory of sex, drugs, rock and roll...and love.  It is dedicated to the women in my life to did their best to keep me human."Home of the BraveThis song has a Warhol-esque feel to it.  “Hectic madness of city living where the whores are dancing on the table tops and the juke box plays Apocalyptic bebop.”  ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Theme from the television series “Night Court”We were introduced to Judge Harry T. Stone and the eclectic characters that pass through his courtroom on this sitcom that premiered in January 1984. STAFF PICKS:Say it Isn't So by Hall & OatesLynch starts of the staff picks with one of two new singles released on Hall & Oates compilation album "Rock 'n Soul Part 1."  It was stuck at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, behind Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney's "Say Say Say" for several weeks before finally taking the number 1 slot.  It is about the downside of fame, and the oddness of everyone seeming to know them. The Politics of Dancing by The Re-FlexRob's staff pick hits all the hallmarks of mid-80's music, including the keyboards, drum machine, spoken lyrics, and low tones.  This song went to number 24 on the Billboard Hot 100.  This is the title song from the debut album by The Re-Flex.  The band stopped working together by 1985, but members often collaborated on each other's solo projects.Break My Stride by Matthew Wilder Heather Lynch brings us a reggae-infused tune that hit number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100.  The song lyrics reflect a man smitten by a woman from whom he must move on, but it also reflects Wilder's struggles with delivering a hit that the record label would take.Holy Diver by DioWayne features heavy metal virtuoso Ronnie James Dio in a solo outing.  It was from his debut solo album of the same name.  The lyrics are about a Christ-figure on another planet who sacrifices himself for his people.  This song was one on Clear Channel's “inappropriate to play” songs after the attacks on 9/11. INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:1984 by Van HalenThis short instrumental leads off Van Halen's album of the same name.

A my Češi. To Milan Tesař samozřejmě ví, a hodně jsme o tom mluvili v našem podcastu. To činí její čtení radostným a osvěžujícím. Snad se část té pozitivní energie propsala i do našeho povídání. Přeju příjemný poslech!

Reflex Integration In Children/Adults With QRI With Bonnie Brandes

Pushing The Limits

In this episode of "Pushing the Limits" I interview the founder and inventor the QRI Laser Bonnie Brandes a former teacher of children with learning disabilities, autism, down syndrome, dyslexia, ADHD, cerebral palsy who discovered the benefit of reintegrating primitive reflexes and the help and relief this bought the children and their families. Bonnie then went on a journey to do it quicker and better and rather than  just using touch and acupuncture she ended up inventing a device to combine low. level cold lasers with sound therapy and acupuncture called the QRI Laser. I have been exploring the use of this device in my mum Isobel's rehabilitation journey as I became aware after studying some of the reflexes she was exhibiting and ways to reintegrate them.   In this episode you will learn: What are primitive reflexes and how they are the building blocks for our neurological development in early childhood and how sometimes these reflexes don't get integrated when they should and the implications of this. We learn that primitive reflexes are automatic, involuntary reactions to stimuli such as sound, touch or movement that are essential for survival and development in the womb and in the first few month so of life. How reflexes support the development of higher brain centers that control muscle tone, movement, sensory integration, cognition and learning skills. They also promote psychological development and behavior. How as we get older, unintegrated reflexes may trigger the "fight or flight" response and how this can lead to a stress behavior pattern of response. How incomplete integrated can contribute to ADHD, autism, learning delays, reading and writing difficulties, language and speech delays, coordination difficulties, hypotonic and hypertonic muscles, poor endurance and fatigue. We learn how this can also affect stroke, aneurysm, concussion victims as well as children. Reflex integration opens the door to new possibilities and provides hope for both children and adults to reach their potential. Next year will mark the 50th anniversary of the creation of Salsoul Records, perhaps the most recogniseably sampled catalogue in the history of disco. The label name came from the US urban latino community who were listening to a mash-up of salsa and soul, and it was established by brothers Joseph, Kenneth and Stan Cayre.  They created a disco genre which was influenced by Philadelphia International, in fact they hired some of Philadelphia's musicians to help develop their own signature uplifting orchestral strings and brass sound. That sound is perhaps best exemplified by the many tracks recorded by The Salsoul Orchestra, who also backed many of their other artists. And in this special mix you'll hear many of the Salsoul Orchestra's best performances.  Enjoy over an hour of my Salsoul favourites, given nu disco makeovers by some great DJs and producers including Dr Packer, Dmitri from Paris, The Reflex, Dave Lee, and Loshmi.  ENJOY. Join us as we explore the concept of compassion fatigue from a fresh perspective. We take a closer look at the underlying mechanisms behind the terms commonly used when we talk about sustainable careers. While empathy and compassion are often used interchangeably, they are actually distinct concepts, and it's not just a matter of semantics - it's a matter of neurology, which has practical implications for you, your career, and your happiness.  Dr Olga Klimecki is a neuroscientist, psychologist, and certified mindfulness and meditation teacher. She holds a PhD from the University of Zurich in Switzerland and is currently a lecturer and senior researcher at the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena in Germany. Her research focuses on advancing sustainable development goals related to peacebuilding, conflict resolution, socio-emotional education, and overall well-being. With over 70 publications to her name, Dr Klimecki's work on neural plasticity and conflict resolution has earned her prestigious international awards, grants, and fellowships. Additionally, she runs her own consulting, training, and research company to implement evidence-based strategies in various organisations, start-ups, and companies. During this conversation, we explore the nuances of empathy and compassion, highlighting their differences and learning why empathy can sometimes have negative consequences, and the term "compassion fatigue" might be a misnomer. We also learn how we can practically apply of this knowledge, explaining how you can rewire your brain to experience the hard things we sometimes need to do as positive experiences, rather than something painful and draining.  Topic list: 6:02 Empathy and compassion. Are they the same thing? 13:52 The connection between empathy and prosocial behaviour. 17:39 Can we really change the way we empathise with others? 20:59 fMRI results from training compassionate and empathetic responses. 27:17 If compassion is good, then where does the term compassion fatigue come from? 29:13 Why empathy first, compassion next? 30:36 It's not the compassion causing your fatigue... you are just fatigued. 32:16 How do we train compassion?
