Welcome back to Fintech Takes. I'm Alex Johnson, joined (as always) by my Jason Mikula, my partner in recapping — who I've been lucky to see a lot of lately, which makes recording this over the internet feel oddly impersonal? First up, open banking updates. JPMC has updated data-access contracts with Plaid, Yodlee, Morningstar, and Akoya; covering, reportedly, 95% of data pulls on its systems (but is silent on players like Finicity, Stripe, Trustly, and MX). Meanwhile, the CFPB wants to finalize its 1033 rule by year's end, possibly skipping key steps like the small business panel. The rule may allow data fees tied to “cost recovery,” but what counts as cost (and who has the leverage to charge it) is still very much in play. Then it's onto digital IDs. Apple now lets users create an identity credential in Wallet from a passport, using NFC and a liveness check. Jason tested it. It works, but usage is limited to select TSA checkpoints. And adoption faces the same slow climb as Apple Pay, but with higher risks if it fails. Identity credentials aren't like payments: you don't want them glitching at airport security! From there, Green Dot (which some might describe as an OG fintech company) is going private and splitting up. Smith Ventures is buying the non-bank side, while CommerceOne (also backed by Smith) takes over the bank and folds it into a new holding company. It's a move that looks like extraction (pulling the combo out of public markets that never knew how to value it), which raises questions for other banks trying to thread the same needle. Plus, in our Can't Let It Go corner: Jason dives into the latest lawsuit against Meta, where internal docs reveal the company blocked safety features that threatened growth, ran a 17-strike policy before removing sex traffickers (described as a very, very, very high threshold), and drew its own comparisons to Big Tobacco. And I flag a podcast moment so surreal it sounds fake: the CEO of Roblox endorsing prediction markets for kids (as long as they're framed as “educational”). Der BMW Z3 – Ein Bajuware aus Amerika Der BMW Z3 ist Bayerns Beitrag zum neuen Roadsterfieber der 90er Jahre. Ausgelöst durch den Erfolg des MX-5 von Mazda steuern alle namhaften Hersteller einen Roadster zum neuerwachten Markt der offenen Sport-Flitzer bei: Mercedes den SLK, Porsche den Boxster, Fiat die Barchetta, MG den MGF und BMW eben den Z3. Ab 1995 auf dem Markt ,gab es ihn zunächst nur als Vierzylinder mit 115 PS oder 140 PS. Bemängelt wurde oft, dass es sich beim Z3 um alten Wein in neuen Schläuchen handelte. Nicht umsonst war der Werkscode E36/7, denn der Z3 wurde auf der Plattform des E36 Compact aufgebaut. Auch andere Teile aus dem BMW Serien-Regal finden sich im Z3 wieder. Gänzlich ist die Fertigungsstätte. Der Z3 war der erste BMW, der in den USA gebaut wurde. 60% der Teile kamen aus Nordamerika. Die Fertigung in den South Carolina war ein Coup, denn dadurch konnte der Z3 auf dem wichtigen nordamerikanischen Markt günstiger angeboten werden als die Konkurrenz. Auch deshalb wurde er zu einem unerwarteten Verkaufsschlager. Bis zum Bauzeitende 2002 wurden rund 200.000 Roadster und fast 20.000 Coupés verkauft. Aus heutiger Sicht ist der Z3 der ideale Einsteiger-Oldtimer: Großserientechnik, hohe Zuverlässigkeit, noch relativ günstig und mit hohem Wertzuwachs-Potential. Auch Ron und Frederic sind vom Z3 begeistert. Beide tendieren allerdings zum Coupé. Während Frederic allerdings bereits mit dem Dreiliter-Sechszylinder zufrieden wäre, müsste es für Ron schon das M-Coupé mit 321 PS sein. To celebrate the launch of the new Perinatal Pelvic Rehab course, I'm excited to share this exciting & empowering conversation with Dr Jessica Gingerich about working with women in pregnancy & postpartum from an evidence based perspectiveWe discussed the new guidelines, how you CAN lift more than 20 lbs, you CAN run, when do you really need to pull back...and more?We emphasised the need for healthcare providers to be updated on current research guidelines and the benefits of aerobic & resistance training (moving beyond yellow theraband!) during pregnancy, and the recent paper that she was a co-author on:Resistance training in pregnancy: systematic review and meta-analysis of pregnancy, delivery, fetal and pelvic floor outcomes and call to action (Prevett et al 2025)We also discussed the prevalence of pelvic health issues among young female athletes, highlighting the need for increased awareness and screening, and emphasized the importance of educating athletes about their bodies and the implications of energy deficiency in sports, particularly for menstrual health. We talked about the importance of appropriate pelvic floor muscle training, emphasizing the need for a balanced approach that includes both strength and flexibility. We also explored the societal conditioning around discussing and training the pelvic floor, noting how cultural norms and sexual education influence perceptions, as well as the importance of applying common sense and individualized approaches when training pregnant individuals, advocating for appropriate dosing and modifications based on the person's condition rather than following a rigid program. We highlighted the need for coaches to be attuned to clients' symptoms and to adjust training intensity and progression accordingly, especially during pregnancy when hormonal and physical changes can impact performance and recovery. From there, we draw the line between moving traffic and governing it. Routers forward based on IP and subnets; firewalls enforce policy using IPs, protocols, and ports—think velvet rope, but for packets.We bring the TCP/IP stack down to earth with a clean mental model of layers and encapsulation, then dig into IPv4 addressing, subnet masks, and private ranges that rely on NAT to share a single public IP. You'll learn why static IPs belong on printers and servers, how DHCP's DORA flow keeps clients online, and what APIPA is telling you when a lease fails. We also size up IPv6—128-bit addresses, hexadecimal notation, dual stack—and unpack the practical roadblocks that slow adoption despite the promise of massive address space.Transport choices make or break performance, so we compare TCP's three‑way handshake and delivery guarantees with UDP's low-latency approach favored by streaming and gaming. We highlight the ports every tech should know—22, 53, 80, 443, 67/68, 21/20, 3389—because port literacy speeds troubleshooting.
