Weshalb nach nur vier diese Neuausrichtung und worin bestand sie? Dies erläuterte in der Parteizeitung Hamburger Echo vom 20. September ein Autor, dessen Wort in der internationalen Sozialdemokratie bereits damals Gewicht hatte, der zu allerhöchsten Ämtern allerdings erst nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg aufstieg: Karl Renner, in den 1920er Jahren Abgeordneter zum Nationalrat in Wien, wurde 1945 zum ersten Bundespräsidenten der zweiten österreichischen Republik gewählt.
