Jason Miller, Matt Graybill, and Kem Meyer - Our lead pastor, Jason Miller, announced this week that his first book will be released in August. We wanted to take a moment to celebrate the book and hear the heart behind it. SBCC celebrates the work our team does in the world when it's aligned with our message and mission. We've also seen too many examples of this being done badly, where potential conflicts of interest are ignored and accountability is lacking, so we wanted to offer some transparency about the process and plan we've pursued to do this in a way that honors our values. In this conversation, you'll hear Jason, our executive pastor Matt Graybill, and board member Kem Meyer sharing the story behind the book, the questions we've wrestled with as it's being promoted and released, and the plan for SBCC's relationship to the book. If you have any further questions, please email info@southbendcitychurch.com.

As Jeff Bezos has said, "Your brand is what people say about you when you're not in the room." Branding is way bigger than your logo. It's how people experience your church, how they are affected by your mission, and what they actually think about you when you're not around. So this week on the podcast we're connecting with Kem Meyer, Founder of Less Chaos. Less Noise., to uncover just how important branding is, even in a small church.Whether you've been following Kem for a while or not, she has so much to share with church leaders. Every time she speaks, wisdom just pours out. The good news is that things have gotten better. A few decades ago, churches weren't talking about design or brand or project management or technology. The bad news? Many churches are doing those things now, but overall our outcomes are not better. Many churches are still in decline, and all this cool stuff we're creating is not putting the mission and vision in action or within reach. In this episode, Tony and Amy interview Kem Meyer, author of Less Chaos. Less Noise., about how we can reframe our understanding of brand and communications for this decade. Kem also shares a practical tool to help you get started. http://prochurchtools.com/080 - Kem Meyer is a recovering corporate spin doctor and former communications director on the executive team at Granger Community Church. As an advocate for better communications, she authored the book Less Clutter. Less Noise. to provide simple insights for the not-so-simple art of removing barriers to help people connect with our message.
In this Exponential 2012 podcast, Kem Meyer speaks about communication that foster buy-in and teamwork. Do you ever notice your ideas are met with lackluster reactions from those around you? Are you having trouble leading change-even with the brightest people, best ideas and virtuous intentions? It's been said knowing how people grow, does not mean we know how to grow them. It's tricky learning how to work with others on the same team. And, even in "Kingdom work" we often meet defensiveness and experience defeat. The candid truth? Most of us are ineffective because we are pushing our own agenda-our way. Under pressure to demonstrate results or validate our cause, we have the tendency to skip crucial "soft skills" of our job. Discover a few ingredients for getting buy-in and motivating others we work with (staff, peers, supervisors and volunteers).
In this Exponential 2012 podcast, Kem Meyer speaks about communicating beyond bulletins, brochures, and brake sales. Every organization, especially the church, has to get over themselves and realize effective communications is really about "releasing the right response" not "sending the right message." People are not looking for more information-they are looking for ways to survive too much information. Pastors, creative professionals, ministry leaders or volunteers part of the church should help people find those answers. Instead they end up adding to the confusion. Smart communication systems that help people connect with Christ and each other don't have to be complicated.
In this Exponential 2011 podcast, Kem Meyer shows how the Web transferred control from organizations to individuals and now people have more access to information - and to each other. How do we appeal to the sense of power & entitlement in our society without compromising Biblical values? What ar the new principles of communication that can help keep lines untangled - making it easy for people to find, contribute and share information without bottleneck, administrative overhead or destructive campaigning? This topic isn't breaking news; the Blogosphere is 12 yrs old, Facebook is 7 and YouTube if 5! Yet church leaders are still fearful that digital & social networks are a substitute for real relationships & convinced content control is an effective strategy. There's so much advice out there and nobody's an expert (don't believe anyone who tells you they are). There's no one-size-fits-all approach for anyone. However, everyone - regardless of skill, style or philosophy - can lead, leverage & influence if they're aware of a few basics of survival online & off.
In this Exponential 2011 workshop, Kem Meyer speaks on communication that fosters buy-in and teamwork. Do you ever notice your best ideas are met with lackluster reaction from those around you? having trouble leading change - even with the brightest people and best inventions? It's been said knowing how people grow does not mean we know how o grow them, and even in Kingdom work it's tricky learning how to work with others on the same team. discover a few ingredients for getting buy-in and motivating others we work with (staff, peers, supervisors, and volunteers).
