South Bend City Church is a dream that’s just beginning. Our lead pastor, Jason Miller, began sharing this dream with friends in late 2015. In the past few months, we’ve been building a team, looking for a place to call home, and gathering to experiment with different ways of worshiping, serving, an…
The South Bend City Church podcast has been a life-changing journey for me. As someone who grew up in the church, I have encountered countless sermons that left me wounded and burdened with shame and insecurity. However, when I started listening to this podcast, all of that slowly began to heal.
One of the best aspects of The South Bend City Church podcast is the powerful impact it has on my thought life. Throughout my years in the church, there have only been a handful of speakers who have truly made a difference in the way I think and approach faith. Jason Miller, the pastor of this church, is one of those speakers. His teachings have touched my heart deeply and brought about a transformative change in how I view God's Word and my relationship with Him. It is such a blessing to have him as my pastor, and I am grateful for the opportunity to hear him speak almost every week through this podcast.
Not only does Jason Miller make an incredible impact, but the rest of the staff and committed members of The South Bend City Church also carry that same heart. It is evident that they all share a deep love for God and His Word, as well as a genuine love for all people from around the world. This sense of community and unity within the church is something that shines through in every episode of this podcast. It creates an environment where listeners can feel supported, encouraged, and connected.
However, like any other podcast or platform, The South Bend City Church podcast also has its flaws. One aspect that could be considered less favorable is the occasional lack of diversity in speakers or perspectives. While Jason Miller's teachings are impactful, it would be enriching to hear from a more diverse range of voices within the church community. It would provide different viewpoints and experiences that could resonate with a wider audience.
In conclusion, The South Bend City Church podcast has been an incredible source of healing and growth for me personally. Listening to the teachings of Jason Miller and the rest of the staff has transformed my thought life, bringing about healing from the wounds caused by previous sermons. The sense of love for God, His Word, and all people that emanates from this podcast is truly inspiring. While there could be room for more diversity in speakers, overall, this podcast is a gift to anyone seeking spiritual nourishment and a community that values authenticity and growth.

Mariah Keener - Here at South Bend City Church, we take our cue from Scripture which calls us as a community to rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep. As we gathered on Mother's Day, we took time to acknowledge the spectrum of experience in the room and to remind us that God reveals Godself to us as Mother. The breath prayer prompts and closing prayer were written by Cole Arthur Riley and can be found on her Instagram, @blackliturgies. The song I Am is by Jill Phillips and can be found here.

Mike Goldsworthy - In the moments when we're feeling overwhelmed by things that are happening that we can't fix or control ourselves, perhaps there is a way we can ground ourselves and move beyond the reactionary response. This weekend we consider the encounter Jesus and the disciples have in John 9 with a man born blind, as they pose the question of who is to blame. Mike Goldsworthy is a speaker, resourcer, and guide with a passion for connecting like-minded churches and leaders. Jason Miller and Chad Meister - This spring, one of our workshop offerings, The Heart of Christianity, will explore the roots, stories, and practices of Christian faith, and we wanted to introduce its teacher and preview its content. Participants will gain a greater understanding of 2,000 years of Christian history, with an expansive view of various traditions within the larger Christian world. Themes include core Christian beliefs, the early Church, monastic spirituality, the Reformation, the relationship between science and Christian faith, and personal and communal spiritual practices. It's also a good companion experience for those preparing for baptism on Easter, but it's not a requirement to be baptized. Enjoy this conversation between our lead pastor, Jason Miller, and workshop teacher Chad Meister. Chad is a scholar of world religions, a prolific author, an affiliate of the Ansari Institute for Global Engagement with Religion at Notre Dame, and a founding board member of SBCC. Registration is now open through March 5th!
Jason Miller and Juan Constantino - Loving our neighbors is at the heart of what Jesus calls us to, but it's hard to love our neighbors if we don't know our neighbors. So for three weeks, we're hearing from partners who can help us understand what others are facing, whether here in the neighborhood, or in the global community. These conversations will give us the chance to grow in empathy and become more educated about what some of the most vulnerable people in our world are experiencing, and what we can do to help. This week, we talked with Juan Constantino, CEO of La Casa de Amistad, a youth and community center that's been around since 1973. Their mission is to empower our Latino, Hispanic, and immigrant community throughout the entire region with educational programs, social services, legal services, and advocacy support. Jason Miller, Todd Deatherage, and Corrie Commisso - In early December, members of South Bend City Church traveled to Ireland and Northern Ireland on a pilgrimage. We went to learn more about history and conflict, and to be inspired by the healing work of individuals, organizations, and communities. One of the features of our time there was the chance to see the work of our friends at Redeemer Central Church in Belfast. The point of the trip was to bring these lessons home as we continue our journey as a community of grace and peace for our city and the world. Hear about our experience from our lead pastor, Jason, our partner and trip leader from the Telos Group, Todd Deatherage, and trip participant Corrie Commisso. Ways to Get Connected Join our Discord! We've worked with Telos since the earliest days of South Bend City Church as they've helped us to understand the role of American Christianity in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, as they've helped us become more educated in America's own history and current realities of racial injustice, and as we've developed a local pilgrimage to deepen our awareness and relationships in South Bend. The arrival of God in the life of Jesus can teach us how to look for and welcome of the arrival of God in our world right now. Jason Miller - We're returning to our community mantras. These four portable prayers describe what we're learning from Jesus about how to be human and how to be a church. This week, we talk about the calling on all of us to bear the image of God, and to honor the image of God in ourselves, our neighbors, and even our enemies. This weekend we also had the chance to see this mantra in action as we celebrate a project we've been supporting for a couple of years. The Book of Belonging is a book of diverse Bible stories for kind and contemplative kids that focus on wonder, contemplation, and identity; because everyone belongs. To learn more about this incredible resource, we had the chance to sit down and talk with the author, Mariko Clark, before the teaching. Resources Pre-order The Book of Belonging by Mariko Clark. Zach Gillis and Beth Graybill - In a world with so much relational strife, we are spending time talking about how to know when it's time to bring that relationship to an end or, in some cases, when to lean in to restore and reimagine the relationship. This weekend, we take these ideas from the abstract and listen in on a conversation about how one beloved member of our community has had to lean in and out of different relationships in his life. CONTENT WARNING: This conversation tackles some difficult topics such as addiction, abuse, and marginalization. As always, please care for yourself well while listening, consider processing this conversation in community, or skip it until you can do either or both of those things. Beth Graybill and Zach Gillis both call South Bend City Church home and are actively involved in the greater South Bend community. Beth, who facilitates this conversation, is a collaborative consultant and storyteller that currently works as a Senior Talent Acquisition Consultant at the University of Notre Dame. Zach, who shares some stories from his life, is the Care Pastor and Worship Associate at South Bend City Church, is the Dean of Students at The Portage School of Leaders, and pops up around South Bend to lend his voice to a variety of music experiences. Mike Goldsworthy - In a world with so much relational strife, we are spending time talking about, how to know when it's time to bring that relationship to an end or, in some cases, when to lean in to restore and reimagine the relationship. This weekend, we reflect again on an instance of this happening in the early church when two leaders chose two different approaches to this question, and explore a framework for how we might think about the way we reimagine how we reengage relationships that have changed. Mike Goldsworthy is a speaker, resourcer, and guide with a passion for connecting like-minded churches and leaders. He also has a podcast, space for faith: re-imaginging the church for our current moment, and started the Post-Evangelical Collective. He is also a long time friend of SBCC and currently serves on our board.
