Our guest this week is former Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno. Kim is now the CEO of Fulfill, formerly known as the foodbank of Monmouth and Ocean County. Fulfill has been changing lives in the communities for the better. The new name reflects the fact that they are focusing on more than food distribution. They help thosein need get to a place where they can back on their feet for good. Ending hunger in the communities is a complex challenge. It is now even more of a challenge in the face of the COVID 19 epidemic. Fulfill has seen a thirty percent increase in familes seeking help with food. We’re back with former Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno, president and CEO of Fulfill, formerly the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean County. Each year, there is an increase in the number of families who are food insecure. Fulfill not only provides groceries, but job assistance, free tax preparation, utility assistance, and lunches for school children who cannot afford the program. There is a satellite office located on Hooper Avenue in Toms River. Fulfill is located on Rote 66 in Neptune NJ. FEDS: NJ POLICE CHIEF SAID BLACK PEOPLE ARE 'LIKE ISIS' AND HE'D LIKE TO BE 'ON THE FIRING SQUAD' The former chief of the Bordentown Township Police Department has been arrested on federal hate crime and civil rights charges after authorities identified a pattern of racist comments and behavior, including slamming a black teen's head into a metal door jamb and saying that black people are "like ISIS," according to the Washington Post. FEDERAL TERRORISM CHARGES FILED AGAINST TRUCK ATTACK SUSPECT Federal prosecutors in New York filed terrorism charges yesterday against Sayfullo Saipov in relation to the truck attack on Tuesday that left 8 people dead and several more severely injured. NJTV says authorities are also seeking a second person for questioning with regard to the attack. IMPORTANT BALLOT QUESTIONS ON LIBRARY FUNDING, POLLUTION SETTLEMENTS Most of the big decisions at the state level are made by elected officials in Trenton, but this year New Jersey voters will get a chance to make a few of the rules. NJ Spotlight looks at the two questions that will appear on the ballot next week – what do we do about library funding and the money from pollution settlements? MARY PAT CHRISTIE CAUGHT IN DISTRACTED DRIVING CRACKDOWN ORDERED BY STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL Governor Chris Christie's recent statewide crackdown on distracted driving netted a notable culprit: Mary Pat Christie. NJ.com says New Jersey's first lady, unlike many public officials caught in the act, did not play the "Do you know who I am?" card after being pulled over. Click here to watch the dash cam footage. FOOD BANKS GEARING UP FOR HOLIDAY SEASON As the holiday season approaches, New Jersey's food banks are starting to appeal for donations. WBGO says many New Jersey families can't afford to buy the food their families need, and more than a million people in New Jersey are considered food insecure. The Community Food Bank of New Jersey is currently asking for donations of turkey and supplies. AFTER NYC ATTACK, GUADAGNO DRAWS LINK TO MURPHY'S IMMIGRATION PLAN During a press conference on Wednesday, Republican candidate for governor Kim Guadagno linked Tuesday's terror attack in Manhattan to Democratic candidate Phil Murphy's plan to make New Jersey a sanctuary state. The Record says Guadagno claimed Murphy's immigration policy would make New Jersey and the region less safe.

MISTRAIL MOTION FAILS, DEFENSE RESTS IN MENENDEZ CASE After seven and a half weeks of testimony, the defense in the Menendez trial rested on Monday, bringing the case one step closer to the finish line. NJTV says the day began with Judge William Walls denying a defense motion for a mistrial after the defense argued that the judge was biased against them. Jurors are expected to return on Wednesday to hear closing arguments before the case goes to the jury later this week or early next week. GUADAGNO TO TAKE BUS TOUR ACROSS NJ AS ELECTION NEARS New Jersey will go to the polls next week to choose a new governor, and it's not looking good for Republican candidate Kim Guadagno. In an attempt to erase her double-digit deficit in the polls, NJ.com says Guadagno will spend the final few days of her campaign on a bus tour around the state. HUNDREDS OF NEW HOMES IN NJ WERE BUILT WITH TOXIC CHEMICAL A major lumber supplier made a bad batch of floor joists late last year, causing them to emit formaldehyde, a known carcinogen that can cause acute health problems. NJ.com says the production mistake wasn't disclosed for months, leading to the construction of hundreds of homes across the state and country that were built with the toxic timber. NJ LAWMAKERS SEEK TO BAN NON-DISCLOSURE AGREEMENTS FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT A bipartisan group of lawmakers in New Jersey are working on legislation that would ban nondisclosure agreements designed to cover up sexual harassment and assault. CBS News says the legislation is meant as a response to reports of multiple non-disclosure settlements reached between Harvey Weinstein and his accusers. Similar legislation is being considered in New York. KIM GUADAGNO PROPOSES BAN ON SANCTUARY CITIES IN NJ Republican candidate for governor Kim Guadagno has proposed banning sanctuary cities in New Jersey if she is elected. NJTV says her plan would give the governor the power to withhold funding or issue fines to sanctuary cities in the state and require local law enforcement to cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. UNLIKELY PARTNERS SAY $7B AMAZON SWEETENER NOT WORTH IT TO NJ New Jersey's increasingly lavish attempts to convince Amazon to built its second headquarters in the Garden State is creating strange bedfellows and improbable alliances in opposition to the state's efforts. NJ Spotlight says representatives from the liberal think tank NJ Policy Perspective are teaming up with officials from the conservative-leaning Americans For Prosperity-New Jersey and the American Legislative Exchange Council to voice their opposition to the proposed $7 billion tax incentive plan intended to woo Amazon. MEGA MILLIONS RAISING TICKET PRICES The price of a New Jersey Mega Millions ticket is set to double at the end of the month – from $1 to $2. The Record says the move comes on the heels of years of declining revenue from the agency running the lottery. Players will also see changes to the design of the game.

YOUR CHOICE FOR GOVERNOR WILL DETERMINE THAT When you go to the polls in November, you won't just be choosing Chris Christie's successor – your choice will determine whether or not recreational marijuana will be legalized in New Jersey. NJ.com says electing Phil Murphy means New Jersey will join eight other states in legalizing marijuana for people 21 and older. Meanwhile, electing Kim Guadagno means you still won't be able to legally smoke marijuana. WILL CLIMATE CHANGE REVIVE AN OLD IDEA: A REGIONAL COASTAL COMMISSION? The idea of forming a coastal commission was once again floated yesterday at a wide-ranging conference on the Shore of the Future in Trenton. NJ Spotlight says the idea was shunned more than three decades ago, but climate change could lead the state to accept that the issues posed by a changing climate far outstrip the ability of local communities to deal with the crisis on their own. AS NJEA CONTINUES FIGHT WITH SWEENEY, AFT GIVES ENDORSEMENT The American Federation of Teachers has endorsed incumbent Senate president Steve Sweeney's reelection, despite his ongoing feud with the New Jersey Education Association. NJTV says the decision to endorse Sweeney has put the AFT at odds with the NJEA, New Jersey's largest teachers union with 200,000 members, which has deep disagreements with Sweeney over public-employee pensions and other issues. NJ TRANSIT'S RAIL SYSTEM IS BREAKING DOWN MORE THIS YEAR NJ Transit trains have been breaking down more often in 2017 than they did in 2016, and are running fewer miles between failures than trains on the Long Island Rail Road or on Metro North. NJ.com says the trend isn't a new one. The agency's train, bus, and light rail fleet were already traveling fewer miles than they did in 2013 before breaking down. FEDS GIVE NJ TRANSIT GREEN LIGHT TO TEST SYSTEM TO PREVENT TRAIN CRASHES Meanwhile, NJ Transit has received conditional approval from federal regulators to begin testing its train collision avoidance system, know as positive train control, on the Morristown Line. The Record says the testing will begin on about 10 miles of track between Madison and Denville, and will not involve trains carrying passengers.
