Eva Hausman, Silent  co-founder of the Mothers' Day Movement (MDM) joins to remind us that $35B are spent on Mother's Day and what if for the cost of a bouquet of flowers we could change a life? Eva's interest in starting this organization grew out of a column in The New York Times by Nicholas Kristof, where he made the case for moving the apostrophe in Mother's Day so it honors not just one mother, but underserved mothers everywhere. It advocates shifting a portion of Mother's Day gift giving to a carefully selected charity each year in honor of a woman or person they love. Joining Eva is Karen Olson, founder and CEO emeritus of Family Promise, a national non-profit organization. Karen has dedicated her life to transforming the futures of homeless and low-income families. Family Promise is the 2025 Mothers' Day Movement beneficiary.  Since 2011, MDM has raised over $1 million, in maternal health, education, hunger, clean water, and human trafficking, and has been featured in The New York Times, Ms. Magazine, and NPR.Here are the topics we covered:0:00 Introductions2:47 MDM Mission4:57 MDM Impact 6:20 Family Promise Choice7:33 Family Promise Mission12:16 Misconceptions about Homelessness13:29 Homelessness Trends15:00 MDM Contribution to Beneficiary16:50 Advice 20-Something SelfMemorable Quotes“It's time to move the apostrophe so that it becomes not just Mother's Day honoring a single mother but Mothers' Day, an occasion to try and help mothers around the globe as well."  Nicholas Kristof, The New York Times “With cutback in programs, homelessness will increase. When we cut food programs and money for housing, people will end up in the streets.” Karen Olson“Engage in what you believe in.” U.S. Sen. Elissa SlotkinHere are the 3 Takeaways: For the price of a bouquet of flowers, we can save a life by donating to MDM. Can you believe that $35 Billion was spent in the US on Mother's Day last year?! 100% of your donation to MDM goes towards helping Family Promise achieve their mission and the 2.5 million children in the United States who experience homelessness. Founded in 1988, Family Promise is the nation's leading organization addressing the crisis of homelessness for families with children. With nearly 200 sites across the country, Family Promise leverages local assets, implements real solutions, and advocates for families facing homelessness. As mentioned in the episode:Donation Link Mothers' Day Movement 2025 Family Promise campaign: https://www.mothersdaymovement.org/2025-family-promiseMore about Eva:Born in 1943 in Bridgeport, CT to Jewish refugee parents from Nazi Germany, Eva was privileged to be the only member of my family to be born in the United States a country her parents adored. Her volunteer activities are many and varied but are primarily related to diversity, civil rights and defending against discrimination. She served on the CT board of the Anti-Defamation League for the last 30 years and received multiple awards for her service. More about Karen:Karen's journey began in the mid-1980s when she first committed herself to the noble cause of advocacy for the disenfranchised and homeless.  Over the years, Karen's efforts have been recognized including President George H. I interviewed the Governor of New Jersey Phil Murphy. We spent an hour talking about his vision for AI in government, economic development, and the regulatory challenges ahead. His approach is refreshingly pragmatic: Spark real innovation at scale. Governor Murphy is laying the groundwork through an AI hub that pools the strengths of the government, academia (Princeton University), legacy tech (Microsoft), and next-gen players (CoreWeave). Creating a place for the brightest minds to live and work. He's making the Garden State irresistible for the best talent through walkable communities, legal recreational cannabis, and an angel investment tax credit.AI that augments teams, instead of replacing them. The Governor sees AI as an “accelerant” that enables teams to do more with the same number of employees. He's walking the talk by training 61,000 NJ state employees in AI to automate busy work and free them to focus on strategic tasks. An integrated regulatory framework for AI. He believes that a technology as pervasive as AI should be regulated at a national level because the state-by-state approach could stifle innovation. Governor Phil Murphy is the first governor I've ever had on the show and I was honored he took the time to come on. I was also especially excited to do this because I grew up in New Jersey! This is a must watch for anyone interested in the intersection of AI and policy. If you found this episode interesting, please like, subscribe, comment, and share! Want even more?Sign up for Every to unlock our ultimate guide to prompting ChatGPT here: https://every.ck.page/ultimate-guide-to-prompting-chatgpt. Today's podcast show is a repurposing of Alan Kaplinsky's “fireside chat” with Matthew J. Platkin, the New Jersey Attorney General, which was the first half of a webinar we produced on January 17, 2025. That webinar was Part 3 of our webinar series entitled “The Impact of the Election on the CFPB and Others.” In Part 3, we focus on the role of state attorneys general in a rapidly shifting CFPB environment. The importance of Part 3 is underscored by the recent actions taken by President Trump to fire Rohit Chopra as Director of the CFPB and to appoint new Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, and then new Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director, Russell Vought, as Acting Directors. Messrs, Bessent, and Vought have essentially temporarily stopped all activities of the CFPB for the time being. During our “fireside chat” with General Platkin, we discussed the following topics, among others: 1.               What is General Platkin's background, including his stint as Chief Counsel to the New Jersey Governor? 2.               Since General Platkin has been New Jersey Attorney General, what are some examples of the consent orders or lawsuits he has initiated related to consumer financial services? 3.               Has the New Jersey Attorney General previously collaborated with the CFPB and/or FTC in investigating certain companies or segments of the consumer financial services industry, and is that likely to change? 4.               What effect will there be on consumers in New Jersey if President Trump appoints (as he did) an Acting Director of the CFPB whose interpretation and enforcement of federal consumer protection laws differs markedly from Rohit Chopra? 5.               What will the New Jersey Attorney General's office do in response to this anticipated shifting CFPB environment? 6.               Elon Musk has called for the deletion of the CFPB and Project 2025 has also called for the elimination of the CFPB. If that were to happen, what would the New Jersey Attorney General's office do to fill this anticipated void? 7.               We then looked beyond New Jersey to other state attorney general's offices similarly situated to the New Jersey Attorney General office – who will have the need to initiate more cases when resources are limited. We discussed how state Attorney General's (including the New Jersey Attorney General) have networked with each other to investigate and sue companies that are violating consumers' rights in multiple states. We then discussed why it is anticipated that the networking process is likely to increase. 8.               The areas of consumer financial protection law and segments of the consumer financial services industry that will be areas of focus for the New Jersey Attorney General during 2025? Our next episode will be the second half of our January 17 webinar in which several of our colleagues will explore in depth why we expect state Attorney General's offices to significantly ramp up their investigations involving and lawsuits filed against banks and other consumer financial services providers. Parts 1, 2 and 3 of our webinar series appear here, here, and here. Our podcast shows (repurposing Parts 1 and 2 of our webinar series) appear here, here, here, and here. The title of Part 1 is: “The Impact of the election on the CFPB: Regulations and other written guidance, which featured Alan Kaplinsky's “fireside chat” with David Silberman who held senior positions at the CFPB for almost 10 years during the Directorships of Cordray, Mulvaney, and Kraninger. Part 2 is: “The Impact of the Election on the CFPB: Supervision and Enforcement, which featured Alan Kaplinsky's “fireside chat” with former Director Kathy Kraninger during Trump‘s first term in office.

Trump Wins Big In 2024 Iowa Caucus

In the 2024 Iowa Republican caucus, the former President made an impressive showing with an unequivocal advantage. His clear dominance was such that CNN found themselves compelled to declare him the victor of the decisive Iowa caucus. His strong position came as no surprise, with observations of his steady lead in the Republican primaries pointing to an expected victory. According to CNN's report, out of all potential caucus-goers, nearly half preferred him as their top choice, while other potential candidates trailed significantly. Subsequent candidates such as the past South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and the incumbent Florida Governor, Ron DeSantis, could garner support from only 20% and 16% of caucus-goers respectively. As per their report, the remaining of the field managed to claim less than 10% of the intended caucus-goer votes. The trend of the former President's stronghold continued from earlier polls conducted in December and October, revealing his firm grip over a majority of potential caucus-goers. Among those who participated in the caucus, a significant 68% were certain about their choice, with supporters' loyalty heightened during the final campaigning period from January 7 to January 12. In this group, a remarkable 82% of the former President's supporters had firmly committed to his campaign, an increase from 70% in December. This unwavering support contrasted with that of the followership of Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis, whose committed voter bases were 63% and 64% respectively. Notably, it was the first time a majority of their supporters solidified through NBC/DMR's poll measure tracking. One weekend, the former President took a critical public stance against Fox News, accusing the network of backing his Republican primary opponents unduly. His disdain was particularly aimed at their coverage of a poll that had been purportedly conducted by CNN; the poll suggested that Nikki Haley remained a single digit trailing agitator in the New Hampshire Republican primary. The former head of state dismissed the poll as an 'outlier' that didn't align with the real scenario. Moreover, the former President expressed his disapproval of Steve Doocy, a prominent Fox & Friends anchor. In his social platform, he alluded to Doocy's futile attempts in 'saving DeSanctimonious', a term that can be interpreted metaphorically for his competitor, Florida's Governor Ron DeSantis. This official critique appeared to be a direct response to DeSantis' campaign strategies, including his bid on resources and his attempt toward notable performance in the Iowa caucuses. In New Hampshire, a poll conducted by CNN and the University of New Hampshire disclosed Nikki Haley's less than preferred position behind the former President, standing at 32% against 39%. However, the ex-President's nationwide stronghold over the Republican primary field remained unscathed with a substantial lead over DeSantis. Within the confines of Iowa, the former President led with an overwhelming margin of 30 points over DeSantis, as stated by FiveThirtyEight's poll tracker. Even though DeSantis had dedicated considerable resources for campaigning within Iowa, which comprised visits to all the 99 counties and securing an endorsement from Governor Kim Reynolds, he couldn't shrink the significant lead established by the former President. The already expanding popularity among average Americans and working-class demographic was only gaining more momentum for the former President, with noticeable acceleration since the last few months. Fresh polling data from The Center Square, in coordination with Noble Predictive Insights, further evidenced the former President's solid support base, especially among Republican voters earning under $50,000 and those without a college degree. The polls included 2,573 potential voters and showed that an impressive majority preferred the former President over any of his GOP challengers. Among them, 61% opted for him, leaving other candidates trailing with less considerable figures. Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and Florida's Governor, secured the support of just 13% and 12% of the voters, respectively. Businessman Vivek Ramaswamy could bag only 7%, while the former New Jersey Governor, Chris Christie, despite having suspended his campaign, could still garner 2% as reported by The Center Square. Evidently, no other candidate could even come close to the former President's foothold of support across probable Republican voters and Republican-leaning voters. A segment of the analysis confirmed the strength and width of the former President's support among voters from different income categories. Among voters earning less than $50,000 annually, the former President captured 70% support. A slightly lower dominance was observed among those earning between $50,000 to $100,000, where he stood at 58%, and the figure dropped a little further to 51% among those earning over $100,000 a year. However, even at the decreased percentage, the combined support for the former President outpaced that of all his Republican competitors together in all income groups. Voters with no college degree were found to rally behind him substantially, with a 68% support rate, significantly more than the 48% support he enjoyed among those with a degree. This immense popularity among diverse socioeconomic groups further attests to the broad appeal of the former President among the Republican base. Overall, the Iowa Republican caucus results and subsequent polling data reaffirm the enduring influence of the seasoned politician. Against his challenger candidates in the primaries, he demonstrated a robust position that reflects his strategic campaign and high degree of support from various quarters. His dominance looks set to continue, indicating he may be a strong contender for the Republican ticket in the 2024 presidential race. While individual contenders remain, they have yet to gain enough momentum to effectively challenge his leadership within the party. Given this, it will be interesting to see how these dynamics evolve in the upcoming months leading to the primary elections. It is clear, however, that even amid competitors making strategic moves, resorting to endorsements, or trying out varied campaign strategies, the former President remains a force within his party. His preponderance is incisively recognized among those who are targeted by different campaigns. His formidable strength comes from his unwavering supporters, who stay committed despite alternative options. It seems they look up to his resolute leadership characterized by firm decisions and consistent values, which resonate with their own beliefs. Regardless of how the narratives steer in the impending days, the former President's commanding lead projects an intimidating challenge for any GOP contender aspiring to supersede his position. However, the democratic principle encourages the ultimate decision to rest within the hands of the voters. Therefore, the following months leading to the 2024 Republican primary promise to unleash multitude of suspenseful episodes and decisive moments. https://www.realnewsnow.com/trump-wins-big-in-2024-iowa-caucus/ Read more on Real News Now Follow RNN on Social Media Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/RealNewsNowApp/ X Twitter: https://twitter.com/realnewsapp Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/realnews/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@realnewsnowapp TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@realnewsnowapp Threads: https://www.threads.net/@realnews/ Truth Social: https://truthsocial.com/@RealNews Video: https://youtu.be/Pjcbb6R1p8A Real News Now PodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (11/06/2023): On Monday, Donald Trump took the witness stand in a civil fraud case in which New York Attorney General Letitia James, a political rival, alleges the former president inflated the value of assets controlled by the Trump Organization in financial statements. If Trump loses the case, he could be fined up to $250 million and be prohibited from doing business in New York moving forward. Notably, in 2018, while campaigning to become Attorney General, James vowed to “sue” Donald Trump—providing evidence to Trump's argument that this civil suit is entirely political. While speaking outside of a New York courthouse on Monday, Donald Trump's attorney Alina Habba accused Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron of belittling her, yelling at her, and “slamming” his fist on a table—referring to the judge as “unhinged.” On Sunday, Face the Nation discussed a new CBS/YouGov poll which indicates that Americans believe they would be in a better financial situation if Donald Trump were to win the 2024 presidential election. According to polling data from The New York Times and Siena College, Donald Trump leads President Joe Biden in five of six key swing states: Nevada, Georgia, Arizona, Michigan, and Pennsylvania—with his lead ranging from 4 to 10 points in each state. Biden leads the hypothetical matchup by 2 points in Wisconsin, though it was within the margin of error. You can read more here: https://www.nytimes.com/2023/11/05/us/politics/biden-trump-2024-poll.html While speaking with Fareed Zakaria on CNN, political commentator and comedian Bill Maher said he doesn't believe President Joe Biden can win the 2024 presidential election citing recent polling: “some of these polling results, I think people need to look at them. Trump is winning [voters] under [the age of] 30.” Could Vice President Kamala Harris replace President Joe Biden as the Democratic Party's 2024 presidential nominee? According to Joe DePaolo, Harris would perform even worse than Biden in a hypothetical match-up against Donald Trump: “The one state out of the six in which Biden is currently holding a lead, according to the Times, is Wisconsin—where the incumbent has a two-point edge, 47-45. But Trump turns the tables in a matchup with Harris, leading her 47-46.” You can read more here: https://www.mediaite.com/news/kamala-harris-fares-even-worse-against-trump-in-brutal-nyt-poll-for-biden-re-election/ Vincent Altieri—Candidate for North Penn School Board in Montgomery County—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss his campaign ahead of tomorrow's election. Biden, the New Orleans-based Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the Biden Administration likely violated the First Amendment when it pressured social-media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube to censor COVID-19 related content as well as unflattering stories about Hunter Biden's abandoned laptop. The Administration effectively used government resources to suppress constitutionally protected speech. You can read more about the decision here: https://www.nationalreview.com/2023/09/the-biden-administrations-escalating-campaign-against-free-speech/ 3:40pm- On Tuesday, Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy announced the launch of an impeachment inquiry against President Joe Biden—citing the alleged corruption tied to the Biden family's overseas business transactions. 3:50pm- In response to Speaker Kevin McCarthy's announced impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) sarcastically stated the news was “devastating.”   4:05pm- The hunt for escaped murderer Danelo Cavalcante continued Tuesday. The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 1: Shortly after delivering the commencement address to the U.S. Air Force Academy on Thursday, President Joe Biden took a scary fall—thankfully, after being helped up by several secret service agents he appeared to be ok. While some questioned whether this was a symptom of his advanced age, members of the mainstream media were quick to jump in and dismiss those fears. June 1st kicked off Pride Month. An NBC Nightly News report from Stephanie Gosk bemoaned the fact that several companies have begun to be less vociferous in their support/participation in Pride Month—specifically, elements of the LGBTQ+ community that have been outspoken in their support for “gender affirming” procedures on children. For example, following backlash from parents, the Target retail chain removed children's swimsuits that promised to “bind” and “tuck”—appealing to transgender-identifying kids. JPMorgan has downgraded Target's stock after backlash stemming from their sale of trans-merchandise for children. Caroline Downey of National Review writes, “[t]he stock was demoted from overweight, which means the broker has a positive outlook on the company's prospects due to its current share price and that the stock is considered a strong buy, to neutral, which means the broker believes the investor should hold the stock as its price may not change.” You can read more here: https://www.nationalreview.com/news/jpmorgan-downgrades-target-stock-amid-backlash-over-lgbt-merchandise/#:~:text=Target%27s%20stock%20was%20downgraded%20on,the%20store%27s%20LGBT%20product%20campaign During a town hall-style interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News, former President Donald Trump mocked Chris Christie's presumed run for president in 2024—pointing out that the former New Jersey Governor is barely polling at 1%. After that, Dom welcomes Neal Zoren back onto the Dom Giordano Program to hear what's worth watching on TV. First, Dom tells of his love of the Diplomat, which he started watching upon a suggestion from Zoren. This leads them down a long path and discussion about the Netflix series, with both telling why they love the series so much.
