Donald Trump is continuing to lose support in the polls. A new poll from the American Research Group found that only 30% of those questioned approve of the way Trump is handling things – 69% disapproving of his handling of the economy. There are big concerns even among Republicans, with 29% disapproving of the way the President is handling his job. US Correspondent Richard Arnold told Mike Hosking it comes as the US national debt hit $40 trillion, with a third of that accumulating during Trump's terms. Charlie James opens his Friday show by reminding listeners that early voting for the upcoming election closes at 5:00 PM today, with regular voting taking place on Tuesday from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. He shares his experience attending the "Road to Washington" breakfast at the City Club, where Senate candidates Ralph Norman, Mark Sanford, and Russell Fry spoke and answered questions. Candidates Mark Lynch and Darlene Graham were absent; Graham submitted a pre-recorded, scripted video instead of attending in person, which sparked debate over campaign control versus voter accessibility. James reports on a straw poll from the breakfast event, where Ralph Norman led with 42.7% of the vote, followed by Russell Fry (22%), Mark Sanford (18%), Darlene Graham (16%), and Mark Lynch (1.3%). He also shares his personal experience voting early with his wife at McAlister Square, noting steady turnout, and breaks down recent early voting turnout figures across various South Carolina counties. Additionally, he addresses a listener's concern regarding delayed absentee ballots.
In this segment of The Charlie James Show, host Charlie James interacts with several callers before delving into regional political updates. The show opens with a caller named Richard from Dallas, who calls in to predict an early arrival for cooler fall temperatures and discusses the legalities of moonshine distilling in North Carolina. Charlie corrects the caller's impression of home-distilling laws by clarifying federal ATF regulations and permit requirements. Another caller, Tim from Woodruff, humorously critiques Charlie's coverage of Senator Tom Tillis's new book. Charlie then moves on to review recent straw-poll numbers released by the South Carolina GOP regarding potential Senate primary contenders. Finally, the discussion pivots to heavy criticism of former North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper. Charlie details a controversial 2021 COVID-era settlement agreement signed by Cooper's administration that led to the early release of thousands of state prison inmates—including violent offenders—and highlights the political fallout and public scrutiny surrounding the release records.

The assembly election results have sharply changed the political landscape in India, with the BJP set to form a government on its own for the first time in West Bengal. Mamata Banerjee, the three-term chief minister often spoken of as the ‘real' Opposition leader to the BJP, has ended up losing her own seat. In Tamil Nadu, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) a two-year-old political start-up, has emerged as the single largest party, leaving both the Dravidian behemoths, DMK and the AIADMK, in the dust. TVK chief and actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay is expected to become the next Chief Minister, though questions remain about government formation. While the Congress-led UDF returned to power in Kerala, the NDA retained power in Assam and Puducherry. How do we read these mandates? What do the outcomes mean for the BJP, for the Opposition, and the Indian polity as a whole? Guest: Anand Mishra, Political Editor, Frontline.
