Inspired by the movie Malificient, this is Part 2 of our trilogy, celebrating Feminist Fairy Tale & Goddess Mythology. Tonight our guest is with Foremother Barbara Walker. No doubt Barbara's books are in your personal library. We'll discuss the importance of feminist fairy tales and Goddess Mythology and how so many have lost sight of what they teach us and how they're an alternative to the values of our patriarchal world. Barbara also has her new book coming out soon, Belief and Unbelief, and she'll give us some clues as to what that's all about. Next week I'll be chatting with Lenny Schneir, the partner of the late and beloved Foremother, Merlin Stone, author of the famous book inspiring so many of us - When God Was a Woman. Don't miss Week 1, when I interviewed Charlene Spretnak discussing pre-patriarchal Goddess Mythology.

Then, to kick off the Feminist Fairy Tale and Goddess Mythology Trilogy,....Inspired by the movie Malificient, tonight is Part 1 of Voices of the Sacred Feminine's Feminist Fairy Tale & Goddess Mythology three-bie. Tonight our guest interviewee is Charlene Spretnak discussing some of the Pre-Olympian Goddess Myths from her book Lost Goddesses of Early Greece. No doubt Charlene's books are in your personal library. We'll discuss the importance of feminist fairy tales and Goddess mythology, how so many have lost sight of what they teach us and how they're an alternative to the values of our patriarchal world. In previous weeks we've discussed giving ourselves permission to reinterpret, redefine, reimagine, and reclaim our own stories rather than accept as normal or healthy the collective patriarchal beliefs, attitudes and practices that shackle us, particularly women, in our patriarchal world. Next week, returning to the show is foremother Barbara Walker, discussing Feminist Fairy Tales, the title of one of her older books, as well as her latest, Belief and Unbelief, being released in November by Humanist Press. Then in Week 3, I chat with Lenny Schneir, the partner of the late and beloved Foremother, Merlin Stone, author of the famous book inspiring so many of us - When God Was a Woman as well as Ancient Mirrors of Womanhood.
Tonight we will look at Malificient! If you haven't seen this movie yet, and you are a single women looking to find Mr. Right, go see this movie! And we will talk about it.
Of course there are plenty of men who are not misogynists, but that doesn't mean that women are not subjected to misognystic behavior. We have to take responsibility for ourselves and also recognize what we tolerate- our friends inappropriate jokes or behavior, the song lyrics we listen to, the movies we love, the people we idolize. And it's not just men, women need to recognize how they contribute - gossiping, judging, and disrespecting other women can add to the overall problem. Todd gets on his soap box. There are numerous youtube clips, blogs, books articles helping and supporting the girls, but he is seeking more support for the boys. If we are going to make change, it can't be one sided. Girl empowerment is essential, but so is supporting boys in expressing their emotion. If we focused on both simultaneously, real change could occur. They also discuss The Fault in our Stars and Malificient, two great summer movies. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=642lKXC97c4 Other Resources: Click here to find Cathy's books The Self-Aware Parent 1 & 2, click here to find her blog, and click here to find her Chicago Parent column. CouchCast 45 is a serendipitous hootenanny of flagrant excess and geekotronic ineptitude. I have no ideas what that means. We discuss April fools, Godzilla, Spy hunter, Burger King's 404 Marketing, Iron Man 2 cologne, edible gold food spray, anti-piracy internship from Warner Bros, Gamestop lawsuit over used games, James Cameron's disdain for DVDs, FearFest, 24 and Scrubs cancelled, Malificient from Sleeping Beauty, Amazon may launch a Steam-like service, farm animals, convenience store robbery with a bat'leth, hardcore gaming, RIAA litigation against pirates, Voqha the Klingon Warrior, Classic Gaming Expo in Las Vegas, things we learned from video games, Cloverfield, Pac-Man cartoon, Saturday Supercade, and the Big List: insane fan theories that actually make great movies better. Don't forget to subscribe to our newsletter on UglyCouchShow.com, and if you like what you're hearing, donate to the show!
