The teaching ministry of Pastor Rick Ponzo. Pastor Rick teaches on The Model Prayer given by Jesus in Matthew chapter 6. Calvary Chapel is known for verse-by-verse expository teaching of the Bible.
In this challenging continuation of our series on the Gospel of Matthew, Pastor Karl unpacks Matthew 6, where Jesus lays out His expectations for true disciples in the Sermon on the Mount.Building on the heart-revealing demands of chapter 5, Jesus shifts the focus from mere external obedience to the hidden motives behind our spiritual lives. He addresses three key disciplines—giving, praying, and fasting—assuming His followers already practice them regularly, not for human applause but as genuine devotion to God.With piercing clarity, Jesus warns against hypocritical “performance” that craves the praise of people, declaring that such motives forfeit any reward from the Father. Instead, He calls disciples to secret, sincere acts of worship done unto God alone, promising that the Father who sees in secret will reward what is hidden from human eyes.Pastor Karl highlights the revolutionary big idea: Jesus calls us from performance in the presence of people to authentic presence with God. He then explores the Lord's model prayer as a pattern of adoration, submission, dependence, confession, and protection—emphasizing especially the vital link between receiving God's forgiveness and extending it to others. The message culminates in Jesus' stark command not to store up earthly treasures that moth, rust, and thieves destroy, but to invest generously in heavenly treasures that last forever. Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also—revealing that generosity isn't primarily about raising money for God's kingdom, but about God raising children who trust and resemble their generous Father.A convicting yet grace-filled call to examine our motives, reorder our loves, and realign our lives as authentic disciples of Jesus—moving from religious show to wholehearted devotion that finds its reward in God Himself.Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 9:00am & 10:30am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm

In Matthew chapter 6, Jesus conveys various petitions we should be praying for. He also describes the reason(s) we should pray in this manner. This essential doxology demonstrates 'to God be the glory'; for it is His kingdom, power, and glory that He so richly deserves the praises for--from His people--forever!

Sermon Title: The Model Prayer (COOL Summer) Pastor Wayne Lomax | COOL Church CREATED OUT OF LOVE
Jesus teaches us how to pray.
Loving God...Loving the Church...Loving Our Community and the World
Loving God...Loving the Church...Loving Our Community and the World
Jesus taught His disciples how to pray. While He gave a Model Prayer, He emphasized that the heart and focus were more important than the words. The attitude and motivation of the one praying is important. Prayer should be more on focusing on God and not on needs of the person. This session includes opportunities for kids to pray during the session.
Message Summary (By OpenAI) “Lord, Teach Us to Pray: Part One – Your Kingdom Come, Your Will Be Done” By Pastor Bryan Hudson, D.Min. DOWNLOAD KEYNOTE SLIDES This message begins a multi-part teaching series on prayer, focusing on Jesus' instruction to His disciples: “Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Dr. Hudson emphasizes that what is often called “The Lord's Prayer” is more accurately the “Disciples' Prayer” or the “Model Prayer.” It teaches how to approach God in prayer with sincerity, humility, and purpose. Key Points: 1. The Priority of Prayer The disciples were drawn to the fervency and consistency of Jesus' prayer life. From this they asked, "Lord, teach us to pray." Jesus warned against hypocritical, public-only displays of prayer and encouraged believers to pray in secret—where God sees and rewards openly. Prayer is both relational and rewarding when practiced sincerely. 2. Understanding “Your Kingdom Come” The kingdom of God is not just a future destination—it's a present reality that must be manifested in believers' lives. Kingdom means the King's domain—where God's will is acknowledged and obeyed. Saying “Your will be done in earth” refers not only to the world but to our own lives (earthen vessels). 3. Six Types of Prayer (from Ephesians 6:18 and elsewhere): Ephesians 6:18 Amplified “Pray at all times—on every occasion, in every season—in the Spirit, with all [manner of] prayer and entreaty. To that end keep alert and watch with strong purpose and perseverance, interceding in behalf of all the saints (God's consecrated people).” Supplication: Specific, detailed requests to God. Being clear in prayer allows for deeper trust and reception of God's wisdom. Intercession: Standing in the gap for others, often with the help of the Holy Spirit who knows the will of God. Agreement: Unified prayer that requires prior alignment of understanding and wisdom before making requests together. Thanksgiving: Gratitude to God in all circumstances, as seen when Paul and Silas gave thanks even in prison. Dedication: Offering ourselves and others to God's purposes. Example: Jesus' and Stephen's prayers of surrender. Prayer of Faith: A Spirit-enabled, unwavering trust in God that brings healing, deliverance, and resurrection power. 4. Immersion in the Kingdom LUKE 17:21 Nor will they say, ‘See here!' or ‘See there!' For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you. Just like language immersion is necessary to learn fluency, kingdom immersion is required to truly live by God's will. This immersion makes the kingdom personal—not just a religious idea, but a lifestyle of obedience and transformation. True kingdom living demands submission of the will and shapes our desires, speech, and behavior. 5. Becoming the Kingdom When the kingdom comes and you become kingdom: You can say “Lord, Your will be done, in earth (in me), as it is in heaven.” Saying “Your kingdom come” is not about waiting for something to arrive, but about becoming kingdom—letting God reign in our lives. When we are kingdom people, we can truly pray, “Your will be done in earth, in me, as it is in heaven.” Conclusion & Next Steps Dr. Hudson encourages the congregation to prepare for a 40-day prayer focus beginning with the Prayer Summit on July 23. The journey into prayer and kingdom living must be intentional, immersive, and led by the Spirit—not just casual or intellectual. Final Thought: Prayer is not just a spiritual exercise but the gateway to kingdom living. When we truly learn to pray, we don't just ask for things—we align ourselves with God's will and become vessels for His purpose on the earth.
After God's people guide their prayers from adoration into confession and thanksgiving, they are best prepared to lift up their supplications asking for Him to provide and prosper their calling—and they need to! Close Your Prayers with Supplication.

This third petition in the Disciples' Model Prayer, "your will be done," is closely related to the second petition, "your kingdom come," yet it is distinct enough to warrant special attention. First of all, we should understand that although the ultimate fulfillment is at Christ's return, the more immediate relevance is a prayer that God's will be done here and now, in the church, in the kingdom subjects who live in a fallen and hostile world. For each of us personally, we are concerned that his kingdom be fulfilled in our lives. There are two primary aspects of God's will:1) His decreed will, his eternal plan, that he carries out on earth (cf. Acts 2:23), and2) His prescriptive will, that is, specific revelation and execution of his will in the lives of his people. Two examples would be Jesus' submission to the Father's will in submitting to the horrors of the cross, and Paul and the believers' submission to God's will in the prophecy that in Jerusalem suffering and imprisonment awaited him. Martin Luther in his catechism question on this petition summarizes this teaching in this idea, "that the good will of God would be done on earth but we want it done among us also."
This second petition in the Disciples' Model Prayer states, "Your kingdom come." A number of characteristics of the kingdom of God as set forth in the Bible are described in this sermon. God's kingdom is a reality wherever king Jesus rules and reigns, especially in the lives of his people. This Kingdom will come completely and fully at Jesus' Second Coming. Until then, the kingdom is expanded on earth as the Gospel goes out to the world and is received by faith and believers grow in him. These are ways we should pray that God's kingdom through Christ will come.
The apostles had been threatened by the religious leaders in Jerusalem, so what did they do? They didn't complain. They didn't give up. They prayed, and they prayed for strength and boldness. This lesson also goes over a key midrash from Psalm 2 in Acts 4.
