Muscadet, Loire, France- What a bouquet! Vibrant aromas of lime, flowers, grapefruit, melon and fig in the bouquet. The palate follows the aromas with hints of red grapefruit and lime that finish with a refreshing crispness. 86 point rating
The boys are starting to loathe Muscadet and holy shit does it show. Along with Brian Heiss from Heritage Wines in Fort Greene, the squad plays a game of "musky or corked" where there are no winners. Here's the deal. Gabbro and Clay soils are, if anything, overrated in Muscadet and outclassed by other soil types. Luckily, this episode turns into one of our trademark jeremiads about the fate of natural wine in the USA. If you were wondering, we did cut about 7 minutes of chatter about getting punched in the face that never quite worked. PATREON.com/disgorgeous and go shop w. Famed Chenin Blanc stan Jame Sligh returns to discuss schist, gneiss, orthagneiss and why we can't get girls to answer our texts. Like last time, all the legally actionable stuff got cut, so don't worry. The boys discuss geology and science, so get those elbow pads and arched eyebrows ready. Kevin did so much research and Duck got a car. We joke about this a lot, but this ENTIRE SEASON is about Muscadet. You might want to listen to episode 51 to get some baseline knowledge about muscadet, even though this is dreadfully educational AND funny. Please go to James' classes at Compagnie des vins surnaturels or just go to the bar there and demand his services. He's a good boy. A nice muscadate is spoiled by our first important corked bottle. Duck shouldn’t be alone right now, to be honest. The tires really come off, but at least there is our first tandem song (and it rules). Although this episode really veers towards classic podcast notes of two bored white dudes talking about nothing, but it also serves as your official warning about the month of May, which we’ve decided is now called either Mayscadet or Muscamay. That’s right, the boys are doing a themed month. There’s also a few hints about summer plans, which Kevin pronounces strangely and which could, hypothetically be a clue… If you’d like to help Duck solve his mystery, DM Kevin. Please also keep buying the damn merch (disgorgeouspod.com) and donating to our Patreon (Patreon.com/disgorgeous )///LIST//Jo Landron/ Louvetrie, Muscadet Sevre et Maine, “Fief du Breil” 2009//I Clivi, Colli Orientali del Friuli, Galea, 2015///Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/Disgorgeous)
Jo Landron is the owner and winemaker of Domaine de la Louvetrie, in the Muscadet Sevre et Maine appellation of the Loire Valley, France. Also in episode, Erin Scala explores the history of the toast.
I love a good scandal. So this week’s podcast covers the best of the last 30 years. From Champagne to a corrupt Canadian wine critic to Austria’s downfall in the 80s, we discuss the wrongdoing of some big time players in the industry. Then we move on to the fun stories of a world of which we’ll never be a part: the wealthy, elite collectors of rare, old (and appallingly expensive) wines and how a few cunning dudes defrauded collectors and duped critics. We cover Hardy Rodenstock, the subject of The Billlionaire’s Vinegar (a great book! Shameless plug: Go to www.audibletrial.com/winefornormalpeople to get a FREE audiobook download) and Rudy Kurniawan, whose story is even crazier and more recent. The Grape of the Week is Melon de Bourgogne/Muscadet. Per our recommendation: make sure to look for Muscadet Sevre et Maine and sur lie on the labels for quality. Enjoy!
