Kim Stare Wallace from Dry Creek Vineyards joins Dan Berger and Daedalus Howell on California Wine Country. She has been on the show before, the last time was this episode in September of 2025. Kim has brought four bottles of two varieties, for tasting. One is their dry Chenin Blanc. They have made the same style for 54 years. Dan Berger remembers the first vintage of this wine and it is still as good as ever. Chenin Blanc is having a comeback right now.  Her father, David Stare, founded Dry Creek Vineyards. He loved the Loire Valley wines of France which is why he planted these vines. Charles Krug made Chenin Blanc since the late 1960s but it was sweet. David Stare at Dry Creek Vineyard made it in an authentic dry Loire Valley style. Dan says this one is as good as any vintage they have ever made. Despite the ups and downs of sales over the years, they continue to produce it the same way, low alcohol and high acidity. It is a single vineyard wine, coming from the Wilson Vineyard nearby in Clarksburg. Dan knows the vineyard and says it has very fertile soil. It is close to Stockton. Their style is “hands-off winemaking.” It is 100% Chenin Blanc, fermented in stainless steel, there is no oak and no blending of other varietals. Melon Flavors in Chenin Blanc Dan mentions that the textbooks say to look for melon flavors, but not cantaloupe, he means white melon. He also notices that this wine is dryer than most of the Loire Valley Chenins.  Dry Creek Vineyards also makes about 500 cases of a Chenin Blanc crémant style. Kim remembers a tasting that their friend Jean Baumard organized. He has a winery, Domaine des Baumards, in the Loire Valley. Dan remembers that event, when Jean Baumard brought some very rare dry Chenins called Savennières. One was from 1937. They had hidden some bottles during World War Two and this was a survivor. It was excellent. When Kim was 13 years old, her parents did a house exchange with the Baumards, whose home is in the Loire Valley village of Rochefort sur Loire. This Chenin Blanc sells for $16-$19, and it is a great value at that price. Dan advises storing some in a cool place for any occasion. 2025 Dry Creek Valley Sauvignon Blanc Next is a 2025 Dry Creek Valley Sauvignon Blanc. It is a new release. David Stare was the first to plant SV in the region, in the 1970s. People laughed. He was told it was a dumb variety. He turned out to be right about it. It’s 100% Dry Creek Valley, so it reflects the warmer climate. They planted unusual clones of Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Musqué and Sauvignon Gris. Dan says you can taste the subtle differences between these clones and their signature Fumé Blanc. Sauvignon Gris is very rare. Dan compares the flavors to an heirloom grapefruit. He thinks it will improve with ten years in the cellar. The New Zealand SVs are softer and sweeter. Kim reads the tasting notes, “Floral notes of jasmine, geranium and hibiscus; fresh herbal hints of cilantro stem; tomato leaf and white pepper mingle with wet gravel minerality.” The herbal notes won’t come out for this wine until about ten more years, says Dan. In this case, the fruit is right up front. Daedalus detects a whiff of dried tarragon. 2026 Best Winery in the 2026 SF Gate Dry Creek Vineyard won the title Best Winery in the SF Gate’s 2026 Best of the Bay issue. Dan remembers they showed Field of Dreams on a portable screen in the vineyard. They have a concert this Saturday afternoon, from 12-4 pm, two days from the day the show is recorded live. In wenigen Weinregionen fühlen sich die Reichen und Schönen so zu Hause wie in der Provence. Kein Wunder, dass der Luxusgüterkonzern Louis Vuitton Moet Hennesy (LVMH) dort Weingüter kauft. Nach dem Château de Galoupé und Château d'Esclans im Jahr 2019 erwarb die LVMH-Weinsparte 2023 das Château Minuty nahe der Halbinsel von Saint Tropez. Die Geschäftsführung übernahm der ehemalige Nord-Europachef Frank Floc'hlay höchstpersönlich. In unseren Weinpodcast „Vier Flaschen“ bringt er aus dem Jahrgang 2025 drei Rosé- und einen Weißwein mit, die wie fast alles aus der Provence staubtrocken sind. Los geht es mit dem Einstiegswein M-de-Minuty in der „Flûte à Corset“, einer taillierten Flasche, wie es sie nur in der Provence geben darf. Sommelier Michael Kutej lobt die fruchtige Aromatik mit Noten von Honigmelone und Pfirsich. Ansonsten ist der Wein unkompliziert mit einer kontrollierten Säure, die ihn besonders als Aperitif oder Begleiter zu leichten Speisen prädestiniert. Bei unserem „Vier Flaschen“-Partner Hawesko gibt es den M aktuell für 15,95 Euro im Angebot. Deutlich komplexer kommt der Minuty Prestige Rose für etwa 20 Euro daher. Michael attestiert im Vergleich zum M mehr Eleganz und Länge. Die lebhafte Säure kann das salzige Aroma von Meeresfrüchten noch besser ausbalancieren. Dass die Provence nicht nur Rosé kann, zeigt der Minuty Blanc et Or. Kutej beschreibt die Cuvée mit fruchtiger Aromatik als saftig und weniger säurebetont, was sie besonders bekömmlich mache. Kostenpunkt: 30 Euro. Zum Schluss kommt für 55 Euro der Premium-Rosé Minuty 281 ins Glas, eine Cuvée aus den besten und ältesten Parzellen der Domaine. Zur oberen Hälfte in metallisches Blau getaucht, erinnert die Flasche Co-Host Axel an einen Parfum-Flacon. Michael lobt die Komplexität mit einer harmonischen Balance aus Säure, Frucht und feiner Mineralität, die auch zu gehobener Küche passe.

Ce dimanche, Alain Marty et ses invités abordent le fait de diriger un domaine et de transmettre une vision

Il y a des festivals qu'on croit connaître par cœur. Ceux dont on fredonne les têtes d'affiche depuis des années, dont on a arpenté les allées un soir d'août, bière à la main, avec l'impression d'avoir tout compris. Et puis on rencontre celui qui tire les ficelles depuis le tout début. C'est l'histoire de Matthieu Ducos. En 2004, il envoie un mail à l'adresse contact d'un festival qui vient de naître. Pas de réseau, pas de piston, pas de grand oncle qui connaît l'arrière-grand-père. Juste une candidature spontanée et une vraie envie. Vingt ans plus tard, il en est le directeur général. Ce que raconte Mathieu dans cet épisode, c'est l'histoire d'un festival qu'on ne lâche pas. Une édition fondatrice en 2003, une seule journée, devenue aujourd'hui cinq jours au Domaine national de Saint-Cloud, dans un écrin classé monument historique, avec des marronniers qu'on éclaire la nuit comme une scénographie à ciel ouvert. C'est aussi une réflexion très honnête sur ce que coûte vraiment de faire du live en 2026 : les cachets qui explosent, les subventions qui s'effacent, les grandes salles qui captent les artistes. Genau das ist uns passiert bei unserem Besuch der Domaine du Lycée Viticole de Beaune. Seit 1884 werden hier nicht nur außergewöhnliche Weine produziert, sondern auch die Winzer von morgen ausgebildet. Und das schmeckt man. Auf 21 Hektar, verteilt über 20 verschiedene Appellationen, entstehen hier Weine, die Qualität und Preis auf eine Art verbinden, die im Burgund längst nicht selbstverständlich ist. Wir nehmen dich mit durch eine komplette Verkostung: angefangen beim frischen, lebendigen Aligoté – der hier tatsächlich keinen Schuss Cassis-Likör braucht – über einen cremig-komplexen Chardonnay aus der Parzelle Montée Rouge, bis hin zu zwei Pinot Noirs, die uns beide fast zum Umdenken gebracht haben. Wer wie wir bisher dachte, Pinot Noir sei nicht so das eigene Ding – hier könnte sich das ändern. Und dann wartet noch ein echter Geheimtipp am Ende: der Vieille Fine de Bourgogne. Nur 240 Flaschen im Jahr, mindestens sechs Jahre im Fass, destilliert mit Wasser aus dem nahegelegenen Fluss Suzon. Was im Glas landet, schmeckt nach Karamell, Rosinen und purem Burgund. Ein Digestif, der jeden Nachtisch ersetzt. Elara Verrett, Chief Digital and Customer Officer at Reitmans made the move to get closer to the customer without standing up an army of engineers. Renee Halverson, CMO at Marine Layer, has run on the platform for more than a decade and scaled the brand without hiring a CTO to babysit the stack. Scott Lux, VP of Digital Commerce at Stanley 1913, came from the Salesforce and Demandware world and now uses Shopify to survive high-heat drops, where the only question that matters is how many orders per minute the platform can clear.The number that came up: one brand cut its tech partner count from 40 to 10. The argument underneath it: a fashion retailer's core competency is retailing, not running a development shop.It isn't all upside. Scott's warning is blunt. The front end is nimble, but the downstream integrations into OMS and ERP are where "easy" goes to die, so pressure test them before anyone signs. Lara's warning is about people, not software. The agility is real, and most large organizations are not built to absorb it.One point they all landed on, and it cuts against instinct: standardization beats customization where it counts. Checkout is the example. Domaine de la Petite Gallée, Millery, Coteaux du lyonnaisAlerte pépite ! Au printemps 2025, je me suis rendu dans la banlieue de Lyon. C'est là que se trouve le domaine de la Petite Gallée, en appellation Coteaux du lyonnais. Un domaine à la notoriété encore modeste mais qui devrait bientôt crever l'écran et ce pour plusieurs raisons. Pour commencer, les vins sont délicieux avec le gamay en fer de lance et un travail très intéressant sur l'aligoté et la syrah. Ensuite, on reste dans des tarifs accessibles avec des vins en-dessous de 20€. Enfin et surtout grâce à Pierre Thollet. Pierre est revenu au domaine il y a peu avec des diplômes, de riches expériences en France et à l'étranger, des idées claires et la tête sur les épaules. Soit des ingrédients indispensables pour mener un domaine très haut. Tony Lombardi from Lombardi Wines is our guest on California Wine Country with Dan Berger and Daedalus Howell. This is his first time on the show. The winery is located in the Petaluma Gap, which we have described in many recent episodes. This episode from 2018 is about the 3rd anniversary of the Petaluma Gap AVA, We start with Chardonnay, which Dan says is in the mold of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, which is an estate in Burgundy, in the Côte d’Or region in east-central France. They produce red and white wines of distinction. If you visit DRC, as it is known, they serve the reds first, then the whites. They believe in the richness and the full-bodied character of Le Montrachet. Sip the difference! -•• • --- -•• --- .–. .- The Lombardi Family The Lombardi family has been in Sonoma County since the ’40s. Tony has been a winemaker for 30 years. He grew up in Sebastopol and calls Sonoma County the Garden of Eden. Tony is happy to work with a friend from high school named Mike Sullivan. He got access to a few tons of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the Maratella vineyard in the Russian River Valley. Tony only made 8 barrels of this wine. He used one old barrel, seven new ones, and some stainless steel. He fermented different vineyards together, then they went into different barrels. Later he blended them all together. Dan calls it a classic example of a Russian River Valley Chardonnay. It has just a hint of oak. Tony wants the oak to just capture the edges and round it out. You want subtleness and integration, so you you catch a little bit of crème brulée, or lemon curd, or minerality. Dan says, put this wine with the right food and it get better. Tony suggests Dustin Valette’s Scallops en croute. If a Chardonnay is too buttery and oaky, it can overpower the flavors in the food. Dan noticed that Russian River Valley Chardonnay has citrus flavors that contribute to the acidity. It’s something you don’t want to lose in your blending. This vineyard is west of the town of Santa Rosa. It has some inland warmth compared to his place in Petaluma Gap. Next they taste two Pinot Noirs. In Tony’s career he has learned about regions and wines from all over the world. Now he has settled into Chardonnay and Pinot Noir which he likes for their versatility. Every March, he is part of a festival called Pigs and Pinot. Tony can blend a couple of barrels of Gap’s Crown vineyard in with the Russian River Valley fruit.

Efter en stille stund på  "Den tabte tids gade" (Rue du temps perdu) i byen Vosne-Romanée får René endelig adgang til de mørke og nærmest hellige kældre hos Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.   Her skal han møde Bertrand de Villaine, som er nevø til medejeren af domainet Aubert de Villaine, og så skal han selvfølgelig smage vinene fra årgang 2024.   René går efterfølgende i dybden med smagen på vinene fra de forskellige parceller og han smager også en Grands Échezeaux fra 1979 samt en Corton-Charlemagne 2023.   Slutteligt opsummerer René sit besøg med lidt refleksioner over, hvor domainet er på vej hen.   .....................
