How can I find happiness? Is it possible to quiet the mind? Whether we are just starting along the path of spiritual awakening or have been on the path for some time, we often have questions about our spiritual journey and about how spiritual teachings relate to issues in our lives. Imagine sitting down to listen to a conversation between two spiritual leaders who are longtime disciples in the spiritual tradition of Paramahansa Yogananda. You can! Join Yogacharya Ellen Grace O'Brian from the Center for Spiritual Enlightenment and special guest Nayaswami Asha, spiritual director of Ananda Palo Alto and author of Ask Asha, as they discuss questions that arise on the path of self-realization.
With warmth and wisdom, Asha helps us see how spiritual teaching can be woven into daily, ordinary life. She offers practical, real-life examples to guide us, encouragement and support for the journey of life. Her teachings are non-sectarian — sharing the truths that unite the great religions; her Sunday Services are based on texts from both the Bible and the Bhagavad Gita. Asha is a lifelong disciple of Paramhansa Yogananda and has studied for more than 40 years with Yogananda’s direct disciple, Swami Kriyananda. She has devoted her life to bringing spiritual understanding to others through teaching, counseling, and writing. Nayaswami Asha has been a spiritual seeker since she was a young girl. In 1969 at Stanford University, she heard Swami Kriyananda speak for the first time. Instantly, she recognized him as her spiritual teacher. “I knew the moment he walked into the room that he possessed the consciousness I had long been seeking.” She soon became a founding member of the new community Swami Kriyananda was starting near Nevada City, California, called Ananda Village, based on Yogananda’s dream of world brotherhood colonies for “simple living and high thinking.” Like this episode? Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live in a real conscious community—one where people live in harmony, collaboration, compassion, cooperation, peace and love? That’s what skeptical reporter Juliet (Elizabeth Rohm of American Hustle, Miss Congeniality 2, Armed and Dangerous, Law & Order and The Client List) set out to investigate. On assignment from her editor at Profiles Magazine, this urban chic cynic is plopped in the middle of a modern day Utopia—and she finds what she never expected to discover –True Happiness. Aging Younger invites director Ted Nicolaou to share with us his vision of how a community driven by the motivation of love for one and all--"where people are more important than things"--as Swami says in the film, can resonate for the masses. Nayaswami Asha who is featured in the film will also join us and talk about her experiences on set and her 40 years as a close collaborator to Swami Kriyananda.

Nayaswami Asha continues the discussion on human values and Patanjali's Yamas and Niyamas as guideposts to right living. (Based on Lesson 9.)
