Today on Uncommon Sense with Ginny Robinson, we're hitting a hot topic: America jumping into the Israel-Iran war. And I'm just going to say it—I don't think we should've gotten involved. I've supported Donald Trump for years, but I think he got this wrong.Israel just said they didn't need us. This was their fight. Then suddenly, we're bombing a nuclear site and opening doors that didn't need to be opened. And of course, anyone who questions it gets labeled a “panican.” But guess what? The “panicans” are starting to look more and more like prophets, because now, sleeper cells are stirring, and American churches are already under attack. We don't need to be scared, we need to be wise. The Bible calls us to test the spirits, stay watchful, and seek peace when we can. (1 John 4:1, Romans 12:18). So let's talk about it honestly. Well you're not alone and this is actually a part of us being brought into the new thing. In this episode Margaux shares some of her recent revelation around “returning to “ who we are designed to be vs. “becoming “ who we are designed to be and the work of renewing the mind and removing lenses to fulfill all that we were intended. Today I'm delighted to welcome back Leah Rampy, from Episode 41, but this time we're also joined by Beth Norcross to discuss their new book Discovering the Spiritual Wisdom of Trees. Having worked together for several years guiding groups into the forest to seek wisdom from the trees, they created a 6 week online video course & wrote their new book, which offers opportunities to consider new ways of connecting with trees. The forest can teach us about love & light but also about darkness & death. During these challenging times that are calling us to examine the path we have walked & take responsibility for creating a future that is inclusive & nurturing for all beings, we can turn to the trees for more than just strength & support. Beth & Leah share the lessons they discovered of resilience, adaptation, hope & renewal whilst amongst our tree folk. Guidance on how to connect & collaborate more closely, shifting out of the mind, allowing the heart to guide us beyond our current confined perception of life & our illusion of separation.Simple practices gently guide us to remember to walk more consciously, rediscovering the relationships familiar to our ancestors & finding the courage to move through our discomfort to ensure we do what is ours to do.Learn more about BethBeth brought her training & experience in both theology & ecology to founding The Center for Spirituality in Nature. In this episode, I sit down once again with my wife Elisheva to share her personal journey from addiction to recovery and ultimately to her Jewish conversion. We reflect on how both recovery and Torah observance require deep humility, surrender, and a constant effort to align our will with Hashem's. Elisheva opens up about how her experience in the 12-step program helped prepare her for the life of halacha, and how she continues to navigate challenges like alcohol in Jewish life as a recovering addict. We also talk about the importance of community, how recovery has strengthened her Emunah, and the ongoing process of spiritual growth. Whether you're facing addiction or simply seeking to deepen your connection to Hashem, this conversation offers honest insights and encouragement.Join the Conversation! The relationship between faith, love, and hope forms a powerful framework for Christian living, as revealed in Colossians. True godly love can only emerge from genuine faith, distinguishing itself from shallow, conditional human love. This faith-based love transforms relationships and situations with divine purpose and depth. Christian hope stands uniquely secured in heaven, providing stability regardless of worldly circumstances such as economic uncertainty or political turmoil.Spiritual growth requires dedicated knowledge of God's Word and will, achieved through regular Bible study, sound theological understanding, and the ability to discern truth from false teaching. While Christianity doesn't promise a pain-free existence, it equips believers with strength to endure difficulties, hope during trials, and power through the Holy Spirit. This combination of faith, knowledge, and hope enables Christians to maintain an eternal perspective during temporary struggles, serving as a powerful testimony to others.Support the show

We are all sinners—but Venerable Louis of Granada offers a roadmap to holiness in his classic spiritual work, The Sinner's Guide. In this powerful interview, Fr. Edward Looney sits down with Fr. Basil Cole, O.P., a Dominican scholar, to explore the wisdom of this TAN Books "Book of the Year."
While the Apostle Paul was under arrest in Rome, he was visited by a church planter from Colossae named Epaphras. Epaphras had great news about the move of the Holy Spirit in Colossae but had some concerns about false teaching making its way into the church there. This visit inspired Paul to write a letter to the church in Colossae to remind them that Jesus really is above all.In Chapter One, Paul shares his desire for the Christians in Colossae - that they would truly know the will of God in all spiritual wisdom and understanding. In much the same way, we need the same thing. Our lives are full of situations where we aren't sure what to do but we have all we need in Jesus.
Reformed Brotherhood | Sound Doctrine, Systematic Theology, and Brotherly Love
In Episode 430 of the Reformed Brotherhood, Tony and Jesse begin their exploration of Paul's letter to the Colossians, focusing on Colossians 1:1–12. This section introduces the key themes of the epistle, including faith, hope, love, and the transformative power of the Gospel. The hosts emphasize that the Gospel is constantly bearing fruit and increasing, both globally and within the lives of believers, demonstrating the sufficiency of Christ in all things. They also discuss the importance of spiritual wisdom and understanding, which enable believers to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord. The episode highlights Paul's unique relationship with the Colossian church, which he had not personally visited, and how his prayer for the church reflects his deep concern for their growth in faith. Tony and Jesse explore the central message of Colossians: Christ is sufficient for salvation, sanctification, and the restoration of all things. They unpack how faith, hope, and love are interconnected in the Christian life, focusing on how hope in the inheritance laid up in heaven empowers believers to love others and grow in faith. Listeners are encouraged to trust in the transformative work of the Gospel, which not only redeems individuals but also restores creation. The hosts remind us of the importance of hearing, understanding, and trusting the Gospel, as well as living it out through a life worthy of the Lord. This episode is a rich dive into the theological truths and practical implications of Paul's opening words to the Colossians. Key Points: The Sufficiency of Christ: Paul's letter emphasizes that Christ is sufficient for salvation, sanctification, and the restoration of all things. There is no need for anything beyond Christ to save or transform believers. Faith, Hope, and Love: These virtues are central to the Christian life. Paul highlights the hope laid up in heaven as the foundation for the Colossians' faith and love, which are outward expressions of their relationship with Christ. The Gospel's Power to Bear Fruit: The Gospel is described as constantly bearing fruit and increasing, both in the world and in individual believers. This demonstrates the active, transformative power of God's Word. Spiritual Wisdom and Understanding: Paul prays for the Colossians to be filled with spiritual wisdom and understanding, which enables them to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord and to bear fruit in every good work. Questions for Reflection: How does the hope laid up in heaven impact the way you live your daily life? In what ways have you experienced the Gospel bearing fruit and increasing in your own life? How can you grow in spiritual wisdom and understanding to better walk in a manner worthy of the Lord? What does it mean to you that Christ is sufficient for all aspects of salvation and sanctification? How do faith, hope, and love work together in your relationship with God and with others?
