Beliefs can be inserted when someone is vulnerable (financial hardship, emotional vulnerability) Manipulation tactics: fear-mongering, guilt, and virtue signaling Discussion of objective vs. subjective truth and their differences [15:45] Common Manipulation Types + Defense Strategies Three common manipulation types: fear-mongering, social proof pressure, false dichotomies Fear mongering: creating urgency through fear (COVID example given) Social proof pressure: fear of social rejection or judgment False dichotomies: presenting only two options when more exist Breathwork as a tool to exit manipulation cycles The key question to ask: 'Who benefits from me believing this?' The contradiction test: look for contradictions in someone's 'absolute truth' If you can't argue the opposite side, you've been conditioned, not educated [23:45] Rebuilding Intuition + Exiting Manipulation Every time you ignore your gut feeling, you make it weaker The cost of ignoring intuition: toxic relationships, bad jobs, meaningless pursuits Four ways to sharpen intuition: conscious breathwork, meditation, microdosing, conscious reflection The counterintuitive solution: 'The only way to win the game is to stop playing it' The observer mindset: watch the world like a movie rather than reacting to it Eight takeaways summarized at the end, including remembering that feelings are not facts Final encouragement to find peace and fulfillment by exiting manipulative systems Leave Wellness + Wisdom a Review on Apple Podcasts Links From Today's Show 698 Cory Clark | Pro-Blame Bias: How to Find The Courage to Speak Your Truth + Escape Victim Mentality Wild Wild Country (2018) 345 Zach Bush MD: Humanity, Consciousness & COVID19 breathwork.io EONS: DAILED (Amanita Muscaria) - Get 20% off with code JOSH20 Josh's Trusted Products | Up To 40% Off Shop All Products Biohacking MANNA Vitality - Save 20% with code JOSH20 HigherDOSE - 15% off with the code JOSH15 PLUNGE - $150 off with discount code WELLNESSFORCE Pulsetto - Save 20% with code "JOSH" SaunaSpace - 10% off with discount code JOSH10 Ultrahuman Ring Air - 10% off with code JOSH Wellness Test Kits Choose Joi - Save 50% on all Lab Tests with JOSH Blokes - Save 50% on all Lab Tests with JOSH FertilityWize Test by Clockwize - Save 10% with code JOSH Tiny Health Gut Tests - $20 off with discount code JOSH20 VIVOO Health Tests - Save 30% off with code JOSH SiPhox Health Blood Test - Save 15% off with code JOSH Nutrition + Gut Health Organifi - 20% off with discount code WELLNESSFORCE SEED Synbiotic - 25% off with the code 25JOSHTRENT Paleovalley - 15% off with the link only EQUIP Foods - 20% off with the code WELLNESS20 DRY FARM WINES - Get an extra bottle of Pure Natural Wine with your order for just 1¢ Just Thrive - 20% off with the code JOSH Legacy Cacao - Save 10% with JOSH when you order by the pound! In this episode, Jesús and Carlos break down the highlights and surprises from the 2025 Oscars. They discuss the major acting wins, including Adrien Brody taking home Best Actor for The Brutalist, Mikey Madison winning Best Actress for Anora, and Kieran Culkin delivering a memorable speech after winning Best Supporting Actor for A Real Pain—though they argue Jesse Eisenberg or Guy Pearce should have won. They also debate whether Dune: Part Two was snubbed for Cinematography and Original Score, The Substance deserved Best Editing, and A Real Pain should have taken Best Original Screenplay. The duo ranks the Best Picture nominees, placing Dune: Part Two at the top, followed by The Substance and The Brutalist, while questioning whether Anora and A Complete Unknown deserved their spots. They wrap up with final thoughts on the night's biggest wins, surprises, and personal favorites before thanking listeners for their support.Want to become a financial supporter? A New Year's message, focusing on Luke 18:9-14.
The present state of the unfulfilled peace brokering process between Palestine and Israel stands to undermine any meaningful progression toward the two-state solution proffered by dominant actors in the West. Host Sahar Aziz in discussion with the former Egyptian Ambassador Hesham Youssef explore the argument that Western ambivalence to the issue of Palestinian sovereignty have significantly eroded the path toward a peace agreement.Support the Center for Security, Race and Rights by following us and making a donation: Donate: https://give.rutgersfoundation.org/csrr-support/20046.html Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/rucsrr Follow us on Instagram: https://instagram.com/rutgerscsrr Follow us on Facebook: https://facebook.com/rucsrr Follow us on TikTok: https://tiktok.com/rucsrr Subscribe to our Newsletter: https://csrr.rutgers.edu/newsroom/sign-up-for-newsletter/

In this episode, we perceive the anguished questions in the mind of the lady, as portrayed in Sangam Literary work, Kalithogai 68, penned by Maruthan Ilanaakanaar. The verse is situated in the ‘Marutham' or ‘Farmlands landscape' and sketches the illusory nature of the man's relationship.
In Episode 173 we cover ADHD and a form of cognitive dissonance known as 'positive illusory bias', or the mismatch between how we view our abilities compared to what they sometimes are. As usual, Alex the Psycho…….education Monkey provides the evidence around the subject; all three hosts add personal reflections, and then we answer questions that have been sent in. 'What has James lost, forgotten or mislaid this week?" returns but is getting tediously one-sided now. James still thinks he can definitely put together IKEA furniture, Alex brags about his badminton prowess and Mrs AuDHD believed she could fit a cat flap in a wooden door in the rain using Play-Doh... While the effective altruism movement has changed a lot over time, one of the parts that makes me most disappointed is the steady creep of donation matching. It's not that donation matching is objectively very important, but the early EA movement's principled rejection of a very effective fundraising strategy made it clear that we were committed to helping people understand the real impact of their donations. Over time, as people have specialized into different areas of EA, with community-building and epistemics being different people from fundraising, we've become less robust against the real-world incentives of "donation matching works". Personally, I would love to see a community-wide norm against EA organizations setting up donation matches. Yes, they bring in money, but at the cost of misleading donors about their impact and unwinding a lot of what we, as a community, are trying to build. While the effective altruism movement has changed a lot over time, one of the parts that makes me most disappointed is the steady creep of donation matching. [1] To the extent that we do have them, however, I think it's important that donors understand how the matching works. And not just in the sense of having the information available on a page somewhere: if most people going through your regular flow are not going to understand roughly what the effect of their choices are, you're misleading people. Here's an example of how I don't think it should be done: I come to you with an offer. I have a pot with $30 in it, which will go to my favorite charity unless we agree otherwise. If you're willing to donate $75 to your favorite charity and $75 to mine, then I'm willing to split my $30 pot between the two charities. How should you think about this offer? As presented, your options are: Do nothing, and $30 goes from the pot to my favorite charity. Take my offer, and: $75 goes from your bank account to your favorite charity $75 goes from your bank account to my favorite charity $15 leaves the pot for your favorite charity $15 leaves the pot for my favorite charity While this looks nice and symmetrical, satisfying some heuristics for fairness, I think it's clearer to (a) factor out the portion that happens regardless and (b) look at the net flows of money. Then if you take the offer: $150 leaves your bank account $90 goes to your favorite charity $60 goes to my favorite charity If I presented this offer and encouraged you to take it because of my "match", that would be misleading. While at a technical level I may be transferring some of my pot to your favorite charity, it's only happening after I'm assured that a larger amount will go to mine: you're not actually influencing how I spend my pot in any real sense. Which is why I'm quite disappointed that Charity Entrepreneurship, after considering these arguments, decided to build FarmKind: This is essentially a white-labeled GivingMultiplier. [2] It's not exactly the same, in part because it has a more complex function for determining the size of the match, [3] but it continues to encourage people to give by presenting the illusion that the donor is influencing the matcher to help fund the donor's favorite charity. While setting up complex systems can cause people to donate more than they would otherwise, we should not be optimizing for short-term donations at the expense of donor agency. I shared a draft of this post with FarmKind and GivingMultiplier for review before publishing, and before starting this post I left most of these points as comments on the EA Forum announcement. [1] I think participating in existing donation match systems is generally fine, and often a good idea. I've used employer donation matching and donated via Facebook's Giving Tuesday match, and at a previous employer fundraised for GiveWell's top charities through their matching system. In the latter case, in my fundraising I explicitly ...

In this episode I am joined by Jason Miller, occultist, author, and teacher of magick. Jason shares his explorations in Tibetan Buddhism, including life changing encounters with Lama Vajranatha and famed ngakpa Kunzang Dorje Rinpoche. Jason recalls his months spent in Nepal during which he received esoteric empowerments, conducted cave and charnel ground practice, and refused the offer of discipleship under a spiritual master. Jason also discusses encountering the goddess Hekate and beginning to teach a magickal system associated with her. Jason compares Western ritual magick to the tantric sorcery of the Himalayas, and considers the role of natural talent in spiritual accomplishment. … Video version: https://www.guruviking.com/podcast/ep254-adventures-in-vajrayana-jason-miller Also available on Youtube, iTunes, & Spotify – search ‘Guru Viking Podcast'. … Topics Include: 00:00 - Intro 00:53 - Meeting Lama Vajranatha 04:27 - Experiments in Voodoo and psychedelic insights 07:23 - Beginning studies in Buddhism 10:31 - Travel to Nepal and meeting Kunzang Dorje Rinpoche 14:12 - Cave practice of Vajrakilaya 16:38 - Refusing Kunzang Dorje's offer of traditional training 20:01 - Charnel ground practice and introduction to the nature of mind 22:37 - Realising rigpa 23:56 - Memories of empowerments in Nepal 30:30 - Powerful encounter with Hekate 36:26 - Choosing Western Magick over Tibetan Buddhism 37:37 - Communication with Hekate 40:53 - Grimoire culture of the early 2000s 42:45 - Beginning to teach the Hecate system 44:01 -Success of the Sorcery of Hekate online courses 45:56 - Why collect Buddhist empowerments? 49:19 - Illusory body and connections between systems 51:00 - Empowerments and further adventures in Nepal 57:01 - Himalayan vs Western Magick 59:17 - The truest wizard Jason has ever met 01:01:22 - What makes a powerful wizard? 01:02:46 - Old vs new systems 01:09:08 - Are some people supernaturally or spiritually gifted? 01:18:34 - Spiritual duds 01:19:41 - Senders vs receivers 01:20:17 - How to relate to spiritual experiences 01:23:11 - Astral projection and guitar playing … Previous episode with Jason Miller: - https://www.guruviking.com/podcast/ep235-strategic-sorcery-jason-miller To find out more about Jason Miller, visit: - https://strategicsorcery.net/ For more interviews, videos, and more visit: - https://www.guruviking.com Music ‘Deva Dasi' by Steve James

They also explored the evolutionary significance of the human brain's filtering mechanism and its role in lying, with Cass explaining how the brain becomes desensitized to repeated lying. In the central act, Prospero puts three sets of characters through ordeals that are at once punitive, when appropriate, and transformative. Ferdinand humbles himself to draw logs to win Miranda—and does. Stephano, Trinculo, and Caliban's attempt at a Jan.6-style insurrection is turned into farce by Ariel. The Court Party is offered an illusory banquet, which vanishes and a harpy accuses all but Gonzalo. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/michael-dolzani/support

“One who is attracted by the ritualistic formulas of the Vedas is attracted by the beautiful green leaves of the tree. He does not exactly know the purpose of the Vedas. The purpose of the Vedas, as disclosed by the Personality of Godhead Himself, is to cut down this reflected tree and attain the real tree of the spiritual world.” (Shrila Prabhupada, Bhagavad-gita, 15.1 Purport)

HAVEN IAQ founder and CEO Kevin Hart returns to the podcast to discuss cracking the home health comfort code, diving into IAQ's illusory ideals. Even though the industry has been generating well-thought solutions to common problems, it's difficult to put those solutions into practice on a large scale. As a result, it's common to rely on selling “bolt-on” IAQ products, which don't actually solve systemic IAQ problems. HAVEN's recent work has also shown that only a few HVAC technicians are proactively offering IAQ solutions to homeowners; the vast majority wait for the owner to ask about a solution instead. Some IAQ issues stem from duct and building envelope leakage, meaning technicians could offer to perform diagnostic tests (like blower door testing) and address the solution holistically with building envelope and duct sealing. However, not all customers are willing to pay for these, which is one of the biggest challenges of comfort consultations. The question about the real long-term, widespread effectiveness of comfort consults remains to be answered. Right now, we only have the illusion that IAQ problems are being solved. We might see positive changes to the state of IAQ if there is more forethought on the technician's part to include diagnostic tests in their quotes when it makes sense to do so. Our industry may also see more proactivity in the quest to solve IAQ problems holistically by establishing sales goals and approaches. Kevin and Bryan also cover: Latest HAVEN IAQ developments The IAQ status quo Technicians and sales Evolution of evacuation best practices in the field Proactivity vs. reactivity when addressing IAQ problems IAQ solution goals and approaches The value of commissioning reports DIY and consumer-based IAQ solutions “Getting in the reps” when using diagnostic tools to solve problems The benefits and challenges of selling diagnostic services Learn more about HAVEN at https://haveniaq.com/ or become a HAVEN Pro today at https://pro.haveniaq.com/. How many things do you tell yourself over and over again that aren't quite true, but now there just a part of who you are?The illusory truth effect is the theory that the more you hear something, the more true it becomes. The fire service is full of examples of this. Pushing fire, oxygen is good for everyone, 12 leads are too difficult for the street, 'they don't want a person like me promoted'.Lies, ALL LIES!A lot of times we do this to protect our ego and limit what we're capable of, but the worst part is that it is by choice. Quit lying to yourself, but do it slowly, and see how many people are actually happy and supportive of the version of you that you want to be instead of the one you've convinced yourself you are.Support the showSupport the show directly here: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/4thshiftfiEPlease order your favorite products through my affiliate links:Rescue1CBD https://rescue1cbd.com?ref=509Use code TAILBOARD for 15% offAthletic Brewing- Code TTFP10 for 10% off for new customersThen use: https://athletic-brewing-co.sjv.io/c/4029326/889587/12298?campaign=affiliate%20%3Dcontent%3Donline_tracking_link to continue to support the show with your purchases. For topic/guest requests use this form https://www.4thshiftfitness.com/guestformFor all other things, reach out here: https://www.4thshiftfitness.com/contactThank you for listening and let's all keep working to be more capable and durable both on shift and away from it.

The reason the mass media have been bleating the word "unprovoked" in unison with regard to this war is because the mass media are propaganda organs of the US empire. Their repetition of this war propaganda slogan exploits a glitch in human cognition known as the illusory truth effect, which makes it difficult for our minds to tell the difference between the experience of hearing something many times and the experience of hearing something that's true. Just repeatedly inserting the word "unprovoked" into Ukraine war commentary across the board causes people to assume it must have been launched without provocation, because the illusory truth effect can circumvent reason and logic to insert a narrative into the collective consciousness of our civilization. Reading by Tim Foley.

Balance can feel like a puzzling concept and impossible destination to reach for us, creative minds. In this episode, I'm reading a past letter I sent to the community to invite them to seek flow within the tumultuous reality of creative living. Balance needs to be a flexible and responsive concept— it cannot be a fixed destination we're hoping to reach. We may need to accept our imbalances and wobbliness, while building the ability to recalibrate. We find balance when we follow our natural rhythms and don't obstruct the flow— when we're not trying to control the waves, but decide to ride them. What do you think? Read the letter here. About me Hello, I'm Pascale! I coach artists, makers and creatives of all kinds because I believe in the cathartic power of art, and the important role you're here to play. Through coaching, we co-create a sacred space to gently untangle the knots on your rebellious path, support your wellbeing and elevate your soulful work. My clients come to me with a heart full of creative ideas... and a mind tangled in self-doubt. My role is to help them find their way back to self-trust so they can fully step into the next level of their creative vision, business and self.
