This week we're taking a look at how different societies have dealt with the rearing of children through the ages. From the militaristic upbringing offered by Sparta to coming of age ceremonies from all corners of the globe, plus we check in with 16th century England's version of NHS Direct; “The Boke of Chyldren” by author Thomas Phaer. Our new feature ONE DAY TIME MACHINE has had our inbox red hot this week. Listener Jo wants to travel back to smash up a certain wet market in 2019, while Stephen wants to head to Dallas in 1963 to set a few extra cameras rolling (potentially getting himself arrested in the process). Let us know where in history you'd like to go for one day and also please fill us in on your time travel rules: hello@ohwhatatime.com This first series will contain 12 episodes that we'll be releasing weekly. If there's an episode you'd like to hear, please let us know! And thank you so much for your support for the podcast since our launch a few weeks ago. If you like it, why not drop us a review in your podcast app of choice? (Thus taking heed of our increasingly desperate pleas for reviews). We're also on Twitter and Instagram @ohwhatatimepod And thank you to Sam Parry for his help with this week's research. Thank you to Dan Evans for the artwork (idrawforfood.co.uk). Jack chats with Jonny Wathen, Chief Information Officer at Wellspring Academy Trust. Jonny takes us on his journey from being a keen sportsperson with an interest in technology, a brief stint as quantity surveyor apprentice and work for NHS Direct to his current as CIO at a large academy trust. Jonny describes how his varied career path – working in further education, providing summer camps and sports coaching for primary age children, being a curriculum leader in a secondary school – have given him different perspectives which aid him in his role today. Jonny and Jack also discuss how a background in Physical Education shapes school leaders, and how Jonny’s passion for transformation in education drives his decision-making and leadership style.
Hello! And welcome to Episode 3 of The Uncanny Valley Podcast. In this Episode we kick off AFK, our new sub-series about Mental Health Awareness and Gaming - a hugely important subject to us. We talk about some of our experiences living with Mental Illnesses, and then discuss how Night in the Woods and Darkest Dungeon address MH themes in a positive way. There are many more things we hope to do and achieve with AFK, and this is just the beginning
