Jason's Insight: “Even the prompt… that should be monetized.” The Future of Creativity (20:11 - 23:19) Troy predicts AI will democratize filmmaking and transform static art into dynamic displays. In this inspiring episode of the TCAS Podcast, host Jason Rigby sits down with Troy Plota to explore his incredible journey—from being kicked out of his home at 17 to building a multi-million-dollar digital empire. Troy shares pivotal moments in his career, his transition from traditional photography to AI-driven innovation, and how a negative experience with Apple fueled the creation of Plotaverse. The conversation dives deep into the role of AI in art, its risks and opportunities, and how Plotaverse is revolutionizing the creative landscape by putting artists first. Key Moments & Topics Troy's Origin Story (00:01 - 03:24) Troy reflects on his early life as a “surf rat” in Florida, where his passion for photography began despite his father's skepticism about it as a career. At 17, he left home with just a camera, kickstarting a lifelong journey as a fashion, advertising, and celebrity photographer. A pivotal move to Miami and later Atlanta set the stage for his big break in the industry. Key Quote: “I just picked up my camera and I've never had another job ever since.” Breaking into the Big Leagues (01:22 - 03:24) Troy recounts how he landed his first major opportunity by organizing portfolios for a modeling agency in Atlanta, leading to paid shoots and exposure to high-profile clients. His work gained traction, eventually landing him features in GQ and a groundbreaking digital billboard in Times Square—the first shot with a digital camera. Jason's Insight: “You came in and started serving right off the bat… creating a ton of value.” AI and the Future of Creativity (04:12 - 06:02) Troy embraces AI as a “miracle” for creators, drawing parallels to the shift from film to digital photography. He argues that AI enhances rather than diminishes human creativity, offering tools to bring stills to life and create films that were once impossible. Currently collaborating with Ellen von Unwerth, Troy sees AI as a way to stay ahead of the curve. Key Quote: “If you don't embrace this, you're going to be left behind.” The Apple Betrayal and Plotaverse's Birth (06:55 - 09:42) Troy shares a challenging moment when Apple promoted his Plotograph app for the iPhone X launch, only to lowball him with an offer and fail to deliver promised exposure after a $6 million giveaway. A competitor replicated his app, raking in hundreds of millions, but Troy turned the setback into motivation, building Plotaverse—a social platform for artists. Positive Outcome: Plotaverse became the world's first all-AI social platform, fueled by Troy's resilience and vision. Jason's Take: “This is age-old—making a profit off an artist… there's always this boogeyman behind them.” Plotaverse: Empowering Artists (10:16 - 15:18) Troy introduces Plotaverse as a customizable, artist-first platform where creators control their portfolios without algorithmic interference. Features include pixel-shifting patents to authenticate work, multiple collections for diverse styles, and upcoming monetization tools. Unlike Instagram's 7.5% creator payout, Plotaverse reinvests a significant portion of ad revenue back into artists. Key Quote: “I've designed the profile pages to be like your website… you dictate what goes first.” Unexpected Uses of Plotaverse (12:14 - 13:34) Troy shares surprising stories of Plotaverse's impact, from helping people in hospitals combat depression to powering visuals at electronic music shows. Highlight: “People would say, ‘I was in bed for months and literally addicted to your app… it saved my life.'” Debunking AI Misconceptions (15:39 - 18:34) Addressing fears that AI makes art “too easy,” Troy emphasizes the skill of prompting and the collaborative nature of AI creation. He's working to make AI tools more affordable and accessible, including open-source models. Jason's Insight: “Even the prompt… that should be monetized.” The Next Decade of Art (20:11 - 23:19) Troy predicts that AI will democratize filmmaking, enabling creators to produce feature films from their ideas without Hollywood budgets. Dynamic digital displays will transform static art into moving, mood-setting pieces for homes and galleries. Vision: “Things don't have to be stationary anymore… it's a combination of augmented reality and screens.” Data Visualization and Beyond (23:19 - 25:51) Jason highlights innovative uses of digital art, like oceanographic data visualizations, and Troy agrees that Plotaverse can amplify such work. The platform supports photographers, videographers, and data artists alike, fostering a global, organic creative community. Troy's Take: “Art has always been about what it makes you feel… now it can move.” Getting Started with Plotaverse (26:25 - 29:26) Troy encourages new users to download the app, explore crisp, uncompressed imagery, and follow inspiring artists. Pro features unlock after 50 posts or comments, making tools accessible globally. A desktop version is in development, integrating top AI tools like Runway, Pika, and Stable Diffusion, with an Nvidia partnership for offline models.

BETTER THAT our new AI overlords be American than Chinese. That seems to be the takeaway from the announcement at the White House Tuesday of a joint venture between OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle of Stargate, a $500 billion project to build an artificial intelligence infrastructure that's intended to make the United States the world leader in AI technology. However, China announced its DeepSeek AI a few hours before the president's announcement. DeepSeek is reportedly as good or better than OpenAI's ChatGPT. It's also open source and costs only 3% of what OpenAI charges. One analyst described it as like a competitor announcing a new mobile phone in 2017 to compete with Apple's $999 iPhone X that did everything as well as or better than the iPhone but priced at $30. The bottom line is the AI revolution is underway and it portends huge changes in civilization. The name of the Stargate project evokes images of the science fiction movie and TV series about contact with advanced ET races who were worshipped as gods by our ancestors (basically, an entire TV series based on the “ancient aliens” concept). It also recalls Project Stargate, research by the Defense Intelligence Agency and Stanford Research Institute in 1977 into remote viewing, an occult practice otherwise known as astral projection. Is President Trump aware of this? We don't know. But remember—it's being allowed by the Lord, and it's a reminder to “straighten up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” Also: Trump's busy first week in office, and why executive orders have replaced legislation in Congress. How to know if someone's monitoring your phone? Safety should always be our top priority. We've gathered together some clear signs that someone is spying on your phone together with some instructions for those who're worried about being tracked. For example, one of the main signs someone is tracking your phone is the gadget running out of battery in no time. Batteries do age along with your phone, but if you've got it just recently, that's not normal. Does your phone freeze or take forever to load web pages? Some malware might be running in the background, preventing the gadget from operating normally. In this case, you may also have trouble quitting apps. Sometimes, it's even necessary to restart your phone. We want to raise our viewers' awareness about data stealing, so here are the signs that spying malware could be on your smartphone. #brightside Preview photo credit: Alushta, Russia - July 28, 2018: Man hand holding iPhone X with call number on the screen. iPhone 10 was created and developed by the Apple inc.: By DenPhotos/Shutterstock.com, https://www.shutterstock.com/image-ph... 小宇宙 - 枫言枫语 直接订阅 Feed URL Apple iTunes Podcast - 枫言枫语 The post Vol. 122 科技快乐星球27: 苹果欧盟又掐架,Vision Pro中国上市 first appeared on 枫言枫语.
In this week's episode of The Mac & Forth Show, Dean, Steve, and Karl discuss the European Union's clash with Apple over the withholding of its AI technology from the region. They also delve into the recent move by Phil Schiller to become an observer on OpenAI's board. The hosts cover the unsettling discovery that the ChatGPT for Mac app was logging user queries in an unencrypted file, shedding light on privacy concerns. Additionally, they tackle the recent hack of Authy, which resulted in the theft of 33 million user phone numbers, and discuss the security ramifications. Lastly, the team reviews Apple's latest additions to its vintage products list, including the iPhone X, HomePod, and AirPods, reflecting on their impact and legacy. All this, and slightly more on this week's episode. CONTACT THE SHOW: We really would appreciate it if you could take a few moments and submit a review on iTunes. The study of economic growth is a modern phenomenon. In fact, economists didn't get serious about measuring it until the mid-20th century. So what brought growth into focus and are the ways we measure it today adequate for a technologically-advanced world? Daniel Susskind is an economics professor at King's College London and a senior research associate at the Institute for Ethics in AI at Oxford University. His books like The Future of the Professions: How Technology Will Transform the Work of Human Experts and Growth: A History and a Reckoning explore the impact of technology on work and the economy. Daniel and Greg discuss the history and circumstances that led to the creation of the GDP and its modern limitations, the moral and environmental challenges associated with a relentless pursuit of growth, and the need for societies to rethink the meaning and value of work in an increasingly automated world.*unSILOed Podcast is produced by University FM.*Episode Quotes:The modern economic thought about the origins of growth10:22: Growth doesn't come from the material world. It doesn't come from the world of tangible objects, but it comes from the intangible world of ideas. And ideas have all these interesting properties: they're nonrival, they're nonexcludable. But the key point is that whereas the world of finite material resources is finite, there's only so much material stuff out there. The world of ideas is unimaginably vast, for all intents and purposes, as good as infinite. And so if growth comes not from using more and more finite resources, but from discovering new ideas about how we can make ever more productive use of those finite resources, then the kind of constraints, the bottlenecks to growth, aren't to be found in the material world of those finite resources but it's to be found in our inability to discover enough new ideas about the world. What do we do about growth?11:23: If we want more growth, we need to become societies that discover new and more interesting ideas about how we can use the resources that we have. Two big problems when it comes to GDP measure14:40: One is technical failings, which is that it's meant to be a measure of the activity that takes place in the market, and it's not a particularly good measure. Many of the things that we use today are free. Think about the search engines we use, the sort of email browsers, and so on, the sort of first generation of generative AI systems, whatever it might be; we don't pay a price for them in the market. And so they're not captured by traditional GDP statistics. The other thing, of course, that GDP is very bad at capturing is quality improvements. And if you think about particular technologies that we use, something like an iPhone today might have the same price as an iPhone X many years ago. All the different dimensions on which the quality of that technology has improved just aren't captured. On the relationship between work and meaning56:38: Although people say there's a strong relationship between work and meaning, actually, there's a lot of heterogeneity. Actually, a lot of people do not get meaning from their work. If they could get an income without working, they would. And you can see this in the simple polls that are done. Lots of people do not get meaning and purpose from their work. They don't think they're making a meaningful contribution to the world. I think it's often the people who write about this stuff are sometimes confusing the meaning that they get from their work as a kind of generalizable insight. I just don't think it's true.Show Links:Recommended Resources:Big Push ModelHarrod Domar ModelJohn Maynard Keynes Simon KuznetsJoel Mokyr | unSILOed LinkRobert J. If you were to think of a vintage phone, what would come to mind? It's not the wind up, rotary or old payphone. It is the iPhone X, which Apple has deemed vintage in their eyes. The tech giant has decided to hang up on the Iphone X and halted production and software updates to the original HomePod, and first-gen AirPods. Elaine Burke is the host of the ‘For Tech Sake' podcast and she joins Seán to discuss.
Apple has labeled the iPhone X, HomePod, and original AirPods as vintage, meaning they stopped selling these items over five but less than seven years ago. Customers can only have these devices repaired for up to two more years, depending on parts availability. The iPhone X, introduced at $999, replaced TouchID with FaceID, while the $349 HomePod marked Apple's entry into smart speakers, with around three million units sold by 2018. The original AirPods, launched at $159, introduced a unique charging case and double-tap functionality. Devices move to the obsolete category after seven years, ending all hardware services and parts availability.Learn more on this news visit us at: https://greyjournal.net/news/ Hosted on Acast. On this week's episode of The MacRumors Show, we discuss two of the most significantly redesigned devices Apple is rumored to have in store: the "Apple Watch X" and the fourth-generation iPhone SE. Apple is reportedly planning a complete revamp of the Apple Watch for the device's tenth anniversary titled "Apple Watch X," similar to 2017's iPhone X that celebrated ten years of the iPhone. Since the original Apple Watch was unveiled in 2014 and launched in 2015, it is not clear whether the Apple Watch X will be released in 2024 or 2025. Apple is apparently working on a thinner casing for the Apple Watch X, as well as different ways for bands to attach to the device to create more internal space for bigger batteries or other components. The Apple Watch X could coincide with Apple's introduction of microLED display technology, which surpasses the color and clarity of existing OLED screens. It may also be the first Apple Watch to feature blood pressure monitoring, and there are other reports about it sporting a larger display. In other news, Apple is believed to be planning a major overhaul of its low cost iPhone. The fourth-generation iPhone SE is expected to be based on the iPhone 14, bringing Face ID and an OLED display to the iPhone SE for the first time, but with the same single rear camera setup as the current model. It is also rumored to feature a USB-C port, Apple's long-rumored custom 5G modem, and an Action Button like the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. This would be a clear differentiator between the iPhone SE and the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, which are not expected to offer the Action Button. The new device is not expected to launch until 2025. Follow us on Twitter @danbarbera and @HartleyCharlton. Tailosive Tech Streamed: April 5th, 2023
