Title: No Other God: Yahweh's Victory Over Idols & False PowersMain Idea: There is no rival to the living God.Through the plagues, God revealed His supremacy over Egypt's idols. This week's message will remind us that only Yahweh deserves our worship—every false god will fall.Give: https://thebridgechurch.org/give/#NoOtherGod #BridgeChurchATL #GodAlone #ExodusSeries
Jordon GilmoreThis Week's Focus: The First Two CommandmentsNo other gods before MeDo not make idolsThese are the foundation of our relationship with God—who He is, and who He alone deserves to be in our lives.1. “No Other Gods”Exodus 20:2–3Key Truths:God begins by declaring relationship — “I am your God.”He is both Savior and Deliverer (for Israel, from Egypt; for us, from sin).Because of that deliverance, He alone deserves our worship and trust. Why This Commandment Matters:We misplace our trust — putting hope in people, money, or even ourselves.“The universe” won't bless you; only God can.We dishonor God — by giving His glory to someone or something else.Just as we expect a “thank you,” God deserves the credit for every good thing. We mislead others — by exalting ourselves instead of pointing to Him.Our lives should reflect His glory, not ours.Scriptural Insight:Hebrews 11:6: “He that comes to God must believe that He is…”Proverbs 9:10: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom…”Everything begins with acknowledging who God is and giving Him His rightful place.Practical Reflection:Do I ever exalt someone (or myself) above God's Word?Have I taken credit for what God has done?Am I trusting my own understanding or submitting to His?“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding…” — Proverbs 3:5–62. “No Idols”Exodus 20:4–6“You shall not make for yourself a carved image… you shall not bow down to them or serve them…”Key Truths:An idol is anything—object, idea, or desire—that we exalt or depend on more than God.God warns of the generational consequences of idolatry, but also of generational blessing for obedience.Punishment: to the 3rd and 4th generationBlessing: to thousands of generationsWhat Idolatry Looks Like:Old Testament: Carved images, false gods, and altars.Today: Money, work, relationships, success, control, or even ministry itself.Example 1: The Golden Calf (Exodus 32:1–6)While Moses met with God, the people grew anxious. They demanded something to see and touch — a substitute for God's presence. They made a golden calf and called it God.Lesson: When we can't “see” God working, we're tempted to create something to worship instead. Our anxiety often leads us to build idols of control, comfort, or distraction.Example 2: Solomon's Downfall (1 Kings 11:1–14)The wisest man alive fell into idolatry through misplaced love. His foreign wives turned his heart toward their gods. His devotion drifted from the Lord—and the nation paid the price.Lesson: Even wisdom and success don't protect us from idolatry if our hearts are divided. What we love most will ultimately shape what we worship most.Takeaway: A Personal InventoryWho or what is seated in the place of God in your life?Do your trust and decisions reflect God as first? Are you passing down a legacy of worship or of misplaced priorities?“God is a jealous God — but His love and blessing extend to thousands who love Him and keep His commandments.”
Episode 2 - No Other GodWhat is the purpose of the law? Why follow something so ancient? Shouldn't we get rid of rules and be people of love? Is the law relevant? Necessary? Reasonable? There's so much confusion about the law of God in the Old Testament. Join us in this series on the 10 Commandments as we see how Jesus not only fulfills the law but how the gospel frees us to obey the law.To know more or connect with New City Delhi, visit newcitydelhi.com

In this message, Hezekiah teaches at the Holt Venue, where he explores the first commandment in Exodus 20:3 and unpacks its relevance for modern life. Using relatable analogies, he challenges us to consider what truly sits on the throne of our hearts and how misplaced priorities can leave us unfulfilled. He reminds us that God's boundaries are an expression of love and protection, not restriction and that only Jesus offers the living water that satisfies our deepest longings. Isaiah 45:14-25 September 6, 2023 Pastor Nick Shaffer
Throughout Scripture we see countless examples of God meeting with man and countless lives being transformed as the result. These examples are in Scripture to stir our faith and fill us with a desire to meet with our Creator. When we read about the life of David, we should be filled with a longing to live as he did, centered around meeting with our heavenly Father. When we read about Gideon or Moses, we should long to know our God as they did. When we read about Jesus coming down to us or his heart for the woman caught in adultery, we should respond by pursuing encounters with our Savior. And when we read of Pentecost and Jesus' second coming, we should seek out the fullness of God's presence available to us on this earth in preparation for the age that is to come. May your heart be filled with a wholehearted desire to pursue meeting with God this week. Our Scripture for today comes from Psalm 84:1-2, and today's worship is No Other God by Steph Macleod. – Changed Lives = A Changed Culture. This is what our First15 Summer Initiative is all about! October 31-November 6 King Nebuchadnezzar laid siege to Jerusalem in 605 BC and began his first deportation of Jews to Babylon. He chose the elect to deport first, so this group included “the king's seed, and of the princes.” Among this group was someone who was most likely a teenager at the time, a young man named Daniel and three of his friends. They were all true and faithful to the living God. Daniel, a Jewish prophet, would serve in the courts of Babylon and then Persia until he was more than 80 years old. Today we'll tell you the rest of the story.
