Jesus described the kingdom of God by comparing it with common agricultural realities. While the illustrations are clear, it's not immediately obvious how such things illustrate the kingdom of God. And it's those opaque pieces which are intended to draw us in, induce more questions, and encourage us to seek the meaning of such things. The kingdom of God does not come about by normal earthly means, but by God's inner workings that permeate all of creation to bring about His ultimate glory and power.
What if Jesus walked through the doors today and told us He was returning exactly one year from now? How would that change everything about the way we live? This powerful message from 1 Peter 4:1-11 challenges us to examine whether we're truly living like the end is near or just going through the motions of faith while our hearts remain tethered to temporary things. The passage confronts us with uncomfortable questions about idolatry in our modern lives, reminding us that anything elevated above God, whether it's sports, relationships, approval, or even our own families, can become an idol that steals our worship. Peter urges believers to arm themselves with Christ's attitude toward suffering and to be anxious to do God's will rather than chase our own desires. The text reveals ten diagnostic questions to identify idols in our lives, from what dominates our thoughts to what we defend excessively. But this isn't just about what we avoid; it's about what we pursue. People who live like the end is near are earnest and disciplined in prayer, show deep unconditional love that covers a multitude of sins, and actively use their spiritual gifts to serve others. The challenge isn't to live in fear, but to live with purpose, knowing that opposition will come when we choose to follow Jesus faithfully, yet pressing forward anyway because eternity is what truly matters.**Sermon Notes:****Title:** Living Like the End is Near **Speaker:** Jesse **Text:** 1 Peter 4:1-11 (NLT)**Detailed Notes:**1. **Introduction:** - Jesse expresses gratitude for the opportunity to lead a student takeover and highlights how student ministry serves as a bridge from kids' ministry to adult services. - The series has been based on 1 Peter, focusing on the call to live in light of the living hope through Jesus. 2. **Theme of 1 Peter:** - The book emphasizes living in response to the living hope given through Jesus. - Christians should live with an awareness that this world is temporary.3. **Passage Overview:** - Jesse reads 1 Peter 4:1-11, highlighting the call to arm ourselves with Christ's attitude, be prepared to suffer, resist sin, and live for the will of God.4. **Main Points:** - **Arm Yourself with the Attitude of Christ:** - Be ready to suffer as Christ did and cease following your sinful desires. - Prioritize living for God's will over worldly pursuits and pleasures. - **Understanding Idolatry:** - Anything elevated above God can become an idol (e.g., power, pleasure, money). - Evaluate priorities to ensure they are aligned with God's will. - **Expect Opposition:** - Faithful following of Jesus will likely lead to slander or rejection by former friends or worldly influences. - Opposition is a normal part of sincerely following Christ. - **Stay Eternally Focused:** - Be earnest and disciplined in prayer. - Show deep love to others, practicing hospitality and using spiritual gifts for service. - **Utilize God's Gifts:** - Recognize and actively use the spiritual gifts God has bestowed for the benefit of others and God's glory.5. **Concluding Story:** - Jesse shares an experience of witnessing baptisms and the heartfelt reminder that choosing to follow Jesus is the most significant decision in life. - Encourages living every day with the urgency that the end is near.**Practical Applications:**- **Evaluate Priorities:** - List and rank your current priorities. There are no themes sweeter than the love of God toward us in Christ Jesus our Lord, and there are few themes upon which Spurgeon is more happy and eloquent. In this sermon he digs into the text of his text, working through the language of love which John speaks. Love begins in and with God: he is its source. That love flows out in the sending of God's beloved Son to be the propitiation for the sins of his people, and then flows over in the people so loved, filling their hearts and spilling out into the lives of others. Here again you will find a familiar emphasis in Spurgeon, that it is love revealed in the gospel which draws out love and secures obedience, something which the law in itself could never do. But there is more, the love with which we have been loved does not just stimulate love of another kind, but produces love of the same kind, drawing from us a Godlike, Christlike love which operates in a similar direction and fashion. So it is that we need to consider and enjoy that love with which God has loved us in Christ Jesus, in order that we might not only appreciate its benefits for ourselves but also demonstrate it in our responses to God himself and to those around us, both in the church and in the world. Please note that the 1st part is in English, and the 2nd part is in Malayalam startin15:36 mark.If we sincerely desire the presence of God, we can really feel it in every aspect of our life. All the prophets in the Bible were ordinary people who were chosen and strengthened by God for various purposes. Even though they were weak and ignorant, God guided them in every step of their journey to accomplish the purposes of God. Moses was chosen by God to bring the Israelites safely out of the slavery of Egypt. He was supposed to die in the Nile river as a baby since the Pharaoh ordered that all the sons born to Hebrews should be thrown into the Nile river. God spoke to Moses face to face throughout the journey of the Israelites from Egypt to the promised land. In the Bible, whoever had an encounter with God had gone through a transformation also in their lives. Everyone in the Bible who came near Jesus wholeheartedly had experienced a transformation in their lives. My name... Cicilysunny@gmail.com

In this episode of Exploring A Course in Miracles, Robert and Emily Perry dive into one of the most important questions of the spiritual journey: Who is God, really? How we see God shapes everything. If we see Him as hostile, we live in fear. If we see Him as indifferent, we feel alone. But if we know Him as gracious and loving, we can live with peace, trust, and the deep assurance that we are never alone. Drawing on insights from A Course in Miracles and the work of theologian Marcus Borg, Emily and Robert explore how our image of God profoundly impacts the way we experience life. Along the way, they share why the Course's vision of God as a deeply personal and unconditionally loving Creator may be one of its greatest contributions. If you've ever wrestled with your image of God—or wondered what A Course in Miracles really teaches about Him—this conversation is for you. ___________________________ Since 1993, our purpose has been to help with both the theory and practical application of A Course in Miracles. Okay, lets you and him fight! In shameless pursuit of ‘brand synergy,' this episode of Casual Trek celebrates the return of Strange New Worlds to our streaming services by doing an episode about those lizardy bastards Kirk fought once at those rocks from Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey, the Gorn! In ‘Arena,' Kirk fights a string vest wearing space lizard while Spock watches and provides inane commentary (hey Spock-o, that's OUR job) and then in the Strange New Worlds Season 2 finale and Season 3 opener ‘Hegemony Parts 1 and 2' Pike spends more time hiding and less time building rudimentary cannons, Spock and Chapel play a little Alien Isolation and Ortegas loses herself in the job… Bogus. Episodes discussed: Arena (07:20) and Hegemony Parts 1 and 2 (38:27)Talking Points include: American Family Reunions, Donkey Kong Bananza, young Tom Jones is weird looking and The Monkees are great, Oh no not another Godlike being, Vasquez Rocks, everyone got tinnitus making this episode, Charlie's time as a scout, Miles has a legitimate reason to bring up ‘Blake's 7,' they tried to build the cannon on Mythbusters… it did not go well, we're not Trying That in a Small Town but we finally listen to The Mountain Goats for the show! Pike's brief moment of religious crisis is weird, Strange New Worlds' making the Gorn so monstrous clashes with how it went down in ‘Arena', Alien Isolation, the nature of ‘Good' and ‘Evil' members of various Star Trek races and how the idea the Gorn might be biologically evil might not be a great look for Trek.
Transformed By Love // “Love Is” How can we, as a church and as individuals, live in our community in a way that reflects the grace and kindness of Jesus? But What Is the Love of God? Ephesians 3:14-19 (ESV)“For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” Agape - noun used 18x = benevolence, goodwill, flowing from God's charter. Agapáo - verb used 28x = The proof of love. Love Is + Love Does God is Love What is the Love of God Like? His Love Appears First 1 John 4:19 (ESV)“We love because he first loved us.” His Love Cannot be Earned 1 John 4:9-10 (NLT)“God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.” Romans 8:38-39 (ESV)“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” “The gospel is this: We are more sinful and flawed in ourselves than we ever dared believe, yet at the very same time we are more loved and accepted in Jesus Christ than we ever dared hope.” - Timothy Keller His Love is Proven by the Cross Romans 5:6,8 (ESV)“For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly… but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” John 3:16-17 (NIV)“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.” His love is revealed by the Holy Spirit Galatians 1:11-12 (ESV)“For I would have you know, brothers, that the gospel that was preached is not man's gospel. For I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ.” Ephesians 3:14-19 (ESV)“For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” “Holy Spirit, Give Me a Revelation of Your Love, I Need It!”
The Best Kept Secret In History An exploration of Eleusis, and the God Like superpower that awaits you on the other side of ego death and rebirth. There's an old story buried in the soil of Eleusis. It's not the kind of story that fades over time, but the type that lingers, and seems to remind you as you remember it, an echo of hmmm, of ancient residue that's still inside your bones. It speaks of mortals transforming into Gods and of a mysterious ceremony so powerful it was kept secret for nearly two thousand years. At its heart, it exposes a different relationship with the concept of death. Not in the physical sense. The symbolic kind. The kind you don't walk away from as the same person. ►Follow Dr. JC Doornick and the Makes Sense Academy: Instagram: / drjcdoornick Facebook: / makessensepodcast YouTube: / drjcdoornick MAKES SENSE PODCAST Welcome to the Makes Sense with Dr. JC Doornick Podcast: This podcast covers topics that expand human consciousness and performance. One Year Bible Podcast: Join Hunter and Heather Barnes on 'The Daily Radio Bible' for a daily 20-minute spiritual journey. Engage with scripture readings, heartfelt devotionals, and collective prayers that draw you into the heart of God's love. Embark on this year-long voyage through the Bible, and let each day's passage uplift and inspire you. TODAY'S EPISODE: Welcome to the Daily Radio Bible, where we journey together through the pages of Scripture each day. In today's episode, host Hunter invites us into a powerful reflection on what truly makes God's people different in the midst of life's challenges. As we read from 2 Kings 18-19, 2 Chronicles 3, and James 5, we witness the story of King Hezekiah standing firm against the intimidating threats of King Sennacherib of Assyria. Despite overwhelming odds, Hezekiah's trust in God sets him apart, reminding us that it's God's presence—the true difference-maker—that empowers us to face our own Sennacheribs. Today's reading is rich with encouragement: we contemplate Hezekiah's courageous prayer, Solomon's dedication of the temple, and James's call to patience, prayer, and righteousness. Hunter and guest Heather also share a glimpse into their own journey, as they take time to recharge along the Oregon coast, encouraging us all to savor the gift of life and God's love in every season. Whether you're in need of strength, healing, or just a little inspiration for your day, this episode will remind you to draw near to the One who brings victory and transforms our lives. Let's walk together in God's joy and remember—we are loved. TODAY'S DEVOTION: The difference maker. The ominous question that Hezekiah hears from King Sennacherib is: why should you be any different? In other words, why should you expect any other outcome than the one everyone else gets? Sennacherib had a track record. If you are looking for evidence to prove your own impending doom, you'll have no trouble finding it. Your own Sennacherib will show up to tell you that you're no different, either. But King Sennacherib had a problem: King Hezekiah was different. In 2 Kings 18:5, we see that Hezekiah trusted in the Lord, the God of Israel. There was no one like him among all the kings of Judah, either before him or after his time. The difference was that God had anointed him. God's presence was with him. Instead of rolling over in defeat as some might, Hezekiah rolled with his anointing—he stepped into the presence of the Lord. 2 Kings 19:14 says, “After Hezekiah received the letter from the messenger and read it, he went up to the Lord's temple and spread it out before the Lord. And Hezekiah prayed.” He asked his God—the only God, the God of Israel—to listen, to bend down, to deliver. He asked God to show Sennacherib, and all of Israel, that God's people are not like everyone else, and that He is a God like no other. In verse 19, it says, “Now, O Lord our God, rescue us from his power. Then all the kingdoms of the earth will know that you alone, O Lord, are God." God did that very thing. He proved to Hezekiah, to King Sennacherib, and to all the kings of the earth that He alone is God. He answered the question that crashed in on Hezekiah's heart: what makes you think you are any different? The difference was God. Our God is the difference maker, and He's come to make a difference in your life. He's come to live and abide in us as we live in Him. That makes all the difference in the world. We are able to face those accusations of our own personal Sennacherib, and all those who come to terrify us. We can roll with our anointing and into the presence of God, drawing close to the one who is the difference maker, the one who gives us victory. So draw near to the One who makes the difference. Find your strength in Him. When you hear the words, "What makes you any different?" respond like Hezekiah and roll into the presence of the Lord. Place those accusations at His feet. Ask Him to show you what the difference is once again, so that you might stand up, stand strong, and see the victory that He alone can bring. That's the prayer I have for my own soul. That's the prayer I have for my family, for my wife, my daughters, my son. And that's the prayer that I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen. Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. And now Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. And where there is sadness, Joy. Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life. Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. And nourishing us with spiritual food, now send us forth as forgiven people, healed and renewed, that we may proclaim your love to the world, and continue in the risen life of Christ. Amen. In this episode we discuss the importance of making sure that what we believe about God is actually rooted in the Scriptures and not based just on our experiences or what we've heard other people say. When reading the Scriptures, always ask, "What does this teach me about God?"Scriptures used:John 10:30John 17:17Matthew 4:42 Timothy 3:16-17Psalm 119:105Ephesians 4:11-16John 14:8-9Acts 17:1-151 Corinthians 12:7Hebrews 5:12-14Romans 12:2Proverbs 19:17Proverbs 17:5aMatthew 25:31-40Proverbs 20:10Proverbs 11:1Proverbs 20:23Proverbs 21:31 Samuel 15:22Micah 6:6-81 Samuel 16:7Matthew 15:1-9Matthew 23:15, 27-28Matthew 22:37-401 Peter 3:7Proverbs 24:17-18Romans 12:19-21Ezekiel 18:322 Peter 3:9Exodus 34:6-7Jeremiah 9:23-24Psalm 119:9-16, 97-100Psalm 1:1-32 Corinthians 3:17-18Psalm 119:181 Chronicles 29:17Feel free to email the podcast at ijustwanttotalkabout@gmail.com, and we will respond as soon as we are able!I WANT TO BE DISCIPLEDI am on staff with another ministry called Mentoring Men for the Master (M3). This does not affect the point that I was making, but I want to make sure I do my best to quote Scripture accurately.Feel free to email the podcast at ijustwanttotalkabout@gmail.com, and we will respond as soon as we are able!I WANT TO BE DISCIPLEDI am on staff with another ministry called Mentoring Men for the Master (M3).
