How do you go from quitting the sport you love to becoming a full-time professional bowler? Kelly Whipple's journey is all about resilience, rediscovery, and rolling with the punches—literally. Kelly, a Sheboygan, Wisconsin native, first picked up a bowling ball at age 3, but it wasn't until a coworker at McDonald's convinced her to join the middle school team that her true bowling journey began. Despite a rocky start, Kelly's relentless practice paid off—culminating in a high school state championship and a standout collegiate career at UW Whitewater, where she was named D3 Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year. But the path wasn't always smooth. After her worst season as a junior, Kelly nearly walked away from the sport. Instead, she started a bowling Instagram to rediscover the fun, connected with new coaches, and made a stunning comeback her senior year. In this episode, we dive deep into: Kelly's early years and the unlikely McDonald's moment that brought her back to bowlingThe grind from middle school beginner to high school state champCollege bowling highs and lows: awards, setbacks, and comebacksLiving with and caring for her grandparents while chasing her dreamsHow hating to be bad at anything fueled her growthGetting sponsored by Kwik Trip and navigating funny online commentsBowling through the pandemic (including some epic Wii Bowling)The astonishing comeback that changed her pro career trajectoryAlmost becoming an insurance agent—and why she didn'tUsing social media jobs to level up her own brandWhat it really means to be a professional bowlerHow to choose the right bowling ball, and so much more If you're into stories of perseverance, reinvention, and chasing your passion—this episode is for you.

In July of 1971, an unkown, incoherent teenager was found outside of St George Catholic Church in the town of Wilson in Sheboygan County.  Presenting as conscious, but non-responsive when authorities were called, an investigation quickly began into his identity, and turned into one of the darkest days in Sheboygan's storied history.  5 lifeless bodies were found throughout the city, another previous death by alleged suicide was called into question, and Sheboygan was never again the same.  Scott and Mickey discuss this case, its legacy, and the attempts of some to get a convicted mass murderer released back into society.  In the opening banter, we discuss a peculiar piece of paranormal audio evidence we obtained while in Lincoln, NE, and an interesting update to a case from a previous episode... Three Little Words | Luke 17:1-10 | Unworthy Servants A little boy once broke his sister's toy. After whispering, “I'm sorry,” he waited as she thought, then finally replied, “I forgive you.” Those three little words stunned the world when the video went viral. Why? Because forgiveness is rare. Jesus teaches that forgiveness is not a medal we earn but a gift we pass on. We are not “worthy servants” stacking up good works—we are unworthy servants who still hurt and provoke others. Yet Christ forgives us. On the cross He tore sin out by the roots and cast it into the sea. In Baptism, Absolution, and His Supper, He keeps doing this for you. Forgiveness is not our accomplishment. It is the Gospel in action. By the Spirit, we guard and share this treasure: three little words that change everything—“I forgive you.” Which is simply another way of saying, “I love you.” ----- Worship Times Sunday – 8:00 & 10:45 a.m. Monday – 6:30 p.m. https://trinitysheboygan.org https://facebook.com/trinitysheboygan We are a congregation of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. Looks Can Be Deceiving | Luke 16:19–31 | The Rich Man and Lazarus Looks can be deceiving. By all appearances, the rich man in Jesus' story was “blessed.” He had everything he wanted, lived in luxury, and was admired by others. It seemed as though God approved of his life. Meanwhile, Lazarus appeared “cursed”—homeless, sick, hungry, and ignored. Yet appearances were not the truth. In the end, the one who looked blessed was cursed, and the one who looked cursed was blessed. So how do we know who is truly blessed? Not by what our eyes see or by the world's opinions, but by what our ears hear. God's Word tells us the truth. It reveals who we are in Christ—despite appearances, feelings, or the judgments of others. Jesus Has Broad Shoulders | Luke 15:1–10 | The Parable of the Lost Sheep Someone with “broad shoulders” is strong enough to carry the burdens of others. In today's Gospel, Jesus shows us that He is the Good Shepherd with the broadest shoulders of all. He carries the weight of our sin, the responsibility of our salvation, and He never abandons His sheep. In the Parable of the Lost Sheep (Luke 15:1–10), we see His heart for each of us: when we stray, He seeks us out, lifts us up, and carries us home. You are not just a number to Him—you are known by name, and you belong to His flock.

How are high school teachers formed for their vocations? Elizabeth Henschen (English teacher at Lutheran High in Sheboygan, WI) joins Andy and Sarah for our Set Apart to Serve series to talk about her formation at Concordia University, Nebraska, why she chose to pursue church work, what she loves about teaching English, and her advice to high school students who are thinking of pursuing church work. Christ's church will continue until He returns, and that church will continue to need church workers. Set Apart to Serve (SAS) is an initiative of the LCMS to recruit church workers. Together, we pray for workers for the Kingdom of God and encourage children to consider church work vocations. Here are three easy ways you can participate in SAS: 1. Pray with your children for God to provide church workers. 2. Talk to your children about becoming church workers. 3. Thank God for the people who work in your congregation. How Much Does It Cost? | Luke 14:25–35 Jesus tells His disciples to count the cost of following Him. At first, His words may sound discouraging—but in truth, they are meant to make us think about what truly matters in life. We build careers, families, and dreams like towers, but are we able to complete them? What happens if our plans fall short? Even more, can we construct a life that lasts forever and overcomes death? The truth is that discipleship comes with a cost—but so does not following Jesus. Our Lord counted the cost of saving us, and it cost Him His life. He paid it willingly because you are worth it to Him. This Sunday we'll reflect on what it means to count the cost and to rejoice that Christ has already paid the ultimate price for our salvation. When Higher is Lower…and Vice Versa | Luke 14:1–14 Pride isn't only arrogance. It can be the quiet voice of comparison, frustration, or resentment when others don't notice us. It whispers while we scroll through social media, envious of someone else's vacations or successes. Pride resists “messes,” but life is messy—like coffee spilled on clean carpet or a child getting sick before guests arrive. Yet Jesus enters our messes, just as He healed the man with dropsy at the Pharisee's house. Jesus warns us against seeking the places of honor. The world says moving up means status, salary, or likes, but in His kingdom, moving up often looks like moving down—caring for aging parents, changing diapers at night, or sitting quietly with a suffering friend. These humble acts, done in love, reflect His own humility. The Gospel is clear: Jesus humbled Himself to death on a cross to raise us up. Like a wedding guest expecting to sit near the kitchen but finding their name at the head table, we are welcomed to Christ's feast—not as outsiders, but as honored guests. Here at His Table, He feeds us with forgiveness and eternal life. The Church is not a showroom for the successful but a hospital for sinners. Like an ER that never turns away the sick, Jesus welcomes the broken. And He promises that when He returns, He will seat us at the eternal wedding banquet—a family reunion that never ends, never fractures, never fades. That is the joy set before us: where higher is lower, and lower is lifted forever in Christ. 410: The NBA's Waterloo Hawks - With Tim Harwood

Long before the National Basketball Association evolved into a global spectacle, it began as an awkwardly assembled mashup featuring a hefty dollop of relatively small-market teams in places like Sheboygan, Wisconsin; Anderson, Indiana and Moline, Illinois.  Among them were the Waterloo Hawks - the only team from Iowa ever to play in the NBA. Their story is synonymous with the fragile early days of pro hoops in the US - and it's vividly brought back to life by this week's guest, Tim Harwood - author of the essential "Ball Hawks: The Arrival and Departure of the NBA in Iowa." Tim and Tim retrace how the Hawks rose out of the old National Basketball League, a circuit of largely factory-backed and regional clubs scattered across the Rust Belt that provided much of the foundation for the modern professional game. In 1949, when the NBL merged with its big-city rival, the Basketball Association of America, the NBA was born - and Waterloo suddenly found itself playing against the decidedly more well-resourced likes of New York, Boston, and Chicago. The Hawks' lone NBA season was gritty, dramatic, and short-lived, ending with the league contracting and shedding smaller markets that didn't align with its "major-market" ambitions. Harwood explains how Waterloo tried to keep its place in the game through the short-lived National Professional Basketball League, and why the Hawks' disappearance after 1951 symbolized the end of the small-market era in pro basketball. What remains is a remarkable story of community pride, fleeting triumph, and the overlooked role towns like Waterloo played in shaping what the NBA would become.  PLUS: The legend of Waterloo's Murray "Wizard" Wier!  + + +    SUPPORT THE SHOW:  Buy Us a Coffee: https://ko-fi.com/goodseatsstillavailable The "Good Seats" Store: https://www.teepublic.com/?ref_id=35106 BUY THE BOOK (AND SUPPORT THE SHOW!):  "Ball Hawks: The Arrival and Departure of the NBA in Iowa": https://amzn.to/3JEuC9W BUY THE SHIRT (AND SUPPORT THE SHOW!): Waterloo Hawks Basketball Team T-Shirt: https://is.gd/rjLn5X   SPONSOR THANKS (AND SUPPORT THE SHOW!):  Royal Retros (10% off promo code: SEATS): https://www.503-sports.com?aff=2 Old School Shirts.com (10% off promo code: GOODSEATS): https://oldschoolshirts.com/goodseats FIND AND FOLLOW: Linktree: https://linktr.ee/GoodSeatsStillAvailable Web: https://goodseatsstillavailable.com/ Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/goodseatsstillavailable.com X/Twitter: https://twitter.com/GoodSeatsStill YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@goodseatsstillavailable Threads: https://www.threads.net/@goodseatsstillavailable Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/goodseatsstillavailable/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GoodSeatsStillAvailable/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/good-seats-still-available/

Demo Before Renno | Jeremiah 23:16–29 Anyone who has ever done a home renovation knows the mess comes before the beauty. Walls must be torn down before they can be rebuilt, dust clouds the air before fresh paint can be applied. In the same way, God's Word works like fire and like a hammer. It breaks down what is false, corrupt, and in the way—so that new life in Christ may be built up. Sin isn't just a blemish to be covered over; it's a deep corruption that requires demolition. The Word of the Lord refines us, burns away the dross, and rebuilds us in Christ's image. We must die before we rise.

Are You Living an Anxious Driven Life? Luke 12:22–34 | Do Not Be Anxious What drives your life—faith or fear? Jesus confronts the anxious heart and calls us to trust, not in ourselves, but in our heavenly Father who provides all things. Just as children rest securely in the care of their parents, so we are invited to live freely under the Father's loving provision. Anxiety fades when we remember who holds us.
